    Bruce, having been going to the Eifel and the 'ring several times per year for decades, I have to say, that weather and the speed it came in, for that area and time of year is quite normal! I don't go there on the bike until the end of April at the earliest, and take the car between October and May... That National Park High Road is also notorious for that kind of bad weather, nearly been caught out there myself! I understand the temptation to just go anyway and say "it'll be ok", but it often isn't....sadly... LOVE the area, which is why I go there a lot...! :)

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  7 месяцев назад +1

      Aye the fact we went in March was an admin clock-up on behalf of Simon and I, he said March when we were planning the dates but meant - April, and we didn’t realise the issue until later when the tour had sold out🤦‍♂️- hence the “Should’ve gone in April” tag line on the vid… it became a bit of a running joke as we were riding along in sleet and snow😬🤦‍♂️

      @@teapotone To be fair, I've driven in baking hot sun, rain, sleet and snow, ALL in the same lap in June, at the 'ring too (I've also done whole snowy laps in June also!), so you really never know what you're gonna get in the Eifel! You chances are just usually, mostly ok in May - Sept....

    Really enjoy your channel Bruce. Regarding 'quiet zones' I had my first overseas bike ride last year and was surprised to see that 40-50yrs on from my military service in (West Germany) they still ban lorries from the roads from midday Saturday until midnight Sunday. I realised this rule still applied when I left Frankfurt at 4am expecting a nice quiet autobahn head start and found 2 lanes nose to tail lorries.

    That's the downside around the Nürburgring. Within a few km you can have sunshine or heavy snow even in late April/ early May. The Ring itself is a real (what we call it) weather hole. Everywhere around sunshine and 20 degree but up there lousy cold, snow, fog, heavy rain or the other way around, really weird. Don't ask how I know 😂. Thankfully everyone made it unharmed. 👍

      Traction control and AB’s would be the worst things to have on snow or lose surface conditions bud - that’s why I switch the GS into Enduro mode.
      If you have traction control active, then the bike is constantly fighting the loose conditions and just doesn’t know what to do.
      But yes, slicks would be useless, in any conditions for road riding 👍

    The sudden change in weather and the "white out" is because you were riding in the "Hautes-Fagnes" area. It houses the highest point of Belgium and the weather over there is always very tricky. People go and have a walk in nature over there and almost every year there are deaths because of the weather in combination of getting lost.
    There are also not a lot of roads over there. Once you're in, it's not easy to get out in that kind of weather.

That snowy partof the video at 13:37 is at the Hautes Fagne area, you can see the tower at Botrange which is famous reference point for hikers. Its an area where the Belgian commandos train for a reason ;) and famous for its snow in winter, it’s due to sudden altitude increase. Even in summer this area is always several degrees cooler. But a weird rugged and beautiful place, rather Scottish in fact!

    Quick shifter is supposed to help with performance not comfort. You should be on a full throttle without hesitation, high rpm and don't use it between 1st and 2nd or the other way around. On many bikes you can do clutch-less upshifts by perfect synchronizing thorttle input and gearshift motin. I understand you guys buy GS for comfort but damn, for snow you'd be better on lower weight bike, one that you could easily lift it by yourself. Now let me ask you, how many of you had M+S tyres?

      I rode a Suzuki GS850G without a clutch cable for four days while waiting for a new one.
      Precision clutchless gear changes up with very careful low loading downshifts.
      How do you take away from the lights without a clutch cable..... first gear, electric start and hold on tight!

    Did everyone have road tires? Or some off-road tires?
    Does it make a big difference in snow? I would think it would.

      Cheers Steve! Ha Ha, it wasn’t quite how I wanted to start the 2023 touring season, but it’s definitely left a ‘memory’! 🤣🤦‍♂️👍

      Yeah....... those "memories" need an overnight soak and some scrubbing to remove but can usually leave a small stain!

    The next time you're in Adenau, try a place called The Gantry, it's my mates hotel.
    I was just surprised you were riding in Enduro Pro mode, I'd have had it in rain at the least.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  7 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers, I’ll check out the Gantry for next time I’m over that way 👍
      You put it in Enduro mode as it disengages the traction control, which is what you want when riding over loose surface like snow, mud etc

    • @percy127
      @percy127 7 месяцев назад

      @teapotone Ah the dealership said to me when I picked up my Dagmar, only use that mode if you're off to do the Dakar or some other insane shit! 🤣

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  7 месяцев назад +1

      @percy127 🤣🤦‍♂️ No it’s really quite useful if you come across a load of crap in the road - mud, gravel, loose stone chippings etc etc. The whole bike feels way more settled as it’s not fighting traction anymore and just goes with it 👍

    Bruce, what gloves do you use? love the look of them and you seem to wear them rain or shine so must be versatile

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  7 месяцев назад +1

      They’re these ones bud - Spidi X-Force CE Gloves - Red
      They’re very light summer gloves, but they let me ‘feel’ the camera buttons really well, and because the GS grips are hotter than the sun, I can wear them through the winter👍
      I have an affiliate link with Sportsbikeshop, I don’t think you get any extra discount but I get 2% commission from any sale if you use it👍

      @@teapotone Thank you ! I like a lighter glove myself too so I'll pick a pair up with your link I had thought they were waterproof with how much you spend enduring the lovely British weather however 😂
