    I ride a BMW R1250 GSA. The only issues I can see are navigating the steps and dragging the skid plate which could through me off my intended path. This is a great video and very informative for those of us who have never done Black Bear Pass.

    • @sanchezsaturno
      @sanchezsaturno  2 месяца назад +1

      @@dhbrantley thank you Brantley, I’m glad you liked it. Yeah the GSA is a big bike. You can totally do it on one of those but do it with a few friends. Don’t take that bike up there by yourself. I’d help you do it but I live in Santa Fe. So it’s not exactly a local ride for me.

    • @othgmark1
      @othgmark1 2 месяца назад +1

      @@dhbrantley it can and has been done on a really large adventure bike but the idea of getting thrown off your intended path will not be ok. Off your path to the left means a 200 foot plus vertical plunge to your death. To your right you are up against a cliff face. I have ridden on a Drz400 and a Husaberg fe650. I own a Gs1200 it might be doable for you but the entire area is much more fun a lighter more nimble motorcycle. Keep in mind that the video shows it dry. I have ridden down the steps when water was running down them as well. There a number of rides in the area that are enjoyable on something larger such as Animas Forks, Corkscrew Gulch, Cinnamon Pass, Engineer Pass, Imogene can be navigated as well. Even these have higher than normal risk involved. Pulling into Ouray one year we saw the rescue choppers take off before our ride. A tourist killed himself and his entire family on Imogene Pass. Ground clearance on a GS will definitely become an issue at times.

      Matt, when I load it down it’s a bit soft too. But only in the rear. The front is fine. I do set my preload to the softest setting when I’m trail riding and I set it at its stiffest setting when I have the bags and extra fuel on it. I could benefit from having a stiffer spring when I’m adventure riding on it.

    Pass is no worse than any others in the area with the one exception. It is not the most difficult but at the steps it is totally unforgiving. A mistake there can be fatal. Ridden it twice probably not again. Imogene just to the north is prettier overall more challenging with numerous water crossings and winds up in Telluride as well. The dangerous part is no more than a hundred feet or so. But it is responsible for more than one fatality.

    • @sanchezsaturno

      @@othgmark1 agreed, I thought Imogene was harder too. But yes, those few hundred feet of step downs are something else. Hairy to put it lightly.

      Yeah, dude, I agree. I noticed that just recently. One of the speakers on my computer station broke, and I lost only the audio where I was speaking from the helmet. I thought this was really weird. How is it that just my voice is gone. it turns out the microphone I’ve been using inside my helmet is a mono microphone. I have since changed out the microphone. But there’s nothing I can do about this video now. All the audio in that video is stereo. Except for the audio that’s coming from my helmet. That one only has one channel. I am annoyed too, believe me. That’s the best video I’ve ever made and audio is all fucked up.

    • @othgmark1
      @othgmark1 2 месяца назад

      Yeah it looks easy. But it isn't at the steps, both time l did water was running down the steps themselves making them slippery as well. In that section a rock rolling out from under your wheel and throwing you off balance could be fatal. I know of one rider that fell on te steps and wound up with his helmet and head hanging off the edge. Another foot and it would be a 200 foot verticle fall onto rock below. No rolling or tumbling down just plummeting down a sheer cliff face.

      Yeah, the jeep websites are a little dramatic. On four wheels I’d understand. Two, not really. I got it from the site I used to read about this pass. That site even had that viral video of a jeep tumbling down the pass. I think that’s why it came up first.
