    i feel kinda bad for the american girl being so worried about the comments. Language is not a matter of either you're white or not, everyone is white in this video, is more about being easier for some people to learn it. For so many brazilians it's hard to pronounce the TH or roll the r's correctly in english (american accent). So don't worry! Always try your best and you're good

    • @anndeecosita3586
      @anndeecosita3586 Год назад +6

      You are kind but I think you misunderstood her point. She didn’t want to say she has a problem rolling her r’s because she is American because there are Americans who speak Spanish and don’t have this problem. She’s white from a less diverse part of country, the Midwest . A lot of people in this region are German and Swedish descent. I have noticed people pronounce vowels words differently here in the Midwest than where I am from.
      There are many American accents and some people speak dialects where they pronounce th in many words either like a d or an f. In a lot of English speaking Caribbean countries words like think sounds like tink.

    As an italian I've never heard those tongue twisters.
    The most common are:
    1-Sopra la panca la capra campa.
    Sotto la panca la capra crepa.
    2-Trentatrè trentini entrarono a Trento tutti e trentatré trotterellando
    3-Apelle, figlio di Apollo
    Fece una palla di pelle di pollo. Tutti i pesci vennero a galla per vedere la palla di pelle di pollo, fatta da Apelle figlio di Apollo.
    4-Tre tigri contro tre tigri.
    5-Se l'arcivescovo di Costantinopoli si disarcivescovoscostantinopolizzasse, vi disarcivescovocostantinopolizzereste anche voi, come si è disarcivescovoscostantinopolizzato l'arcivescovo di Costantinopoli?

      Yess!! these are so much better, I speak spanish and had also never heard of the Spanish ones, they were really easy, they probably got them form children's book.
      Also in Spanish we have a similar one with tigers: "tres tristes tigres tragaban trigo en un trigal"

    • @michele3
      @michele3 Год назад

      I had never heard the last one. Reading it for the first time my eyes crossed...
      By understanding the "meaning" a native speaker can read it and then repeat it without looking too much at the text, which makes it relatively easy. In a context like the one in the video, I would really like to see the faces they would make trying to follow the text reading syllable by syllable 😆

    • @GloriaVictisDiesIlla
      @GloriaVictisDiesIlla Год назад +3

      For those curious about their meaning, here they are translated:
      1- Above the bench the goat lives, under the bench the goat dies.
      2- Thirtythree trentini [citizens of Trento] came back to Trento, all thirtythree of them trotting.
      3- Apelle, son of Apollo, made a chicken skin ball. All the fishes came afloat to see the chicken skin ball made by Apelle son of Apollo.
      4- Three tigers against three tigers.
      5- If the archbishop of Constantinople unarchbishopconstantinopled himself, would you people also unarchbishopconstantinople yourselves like the archbishop of Constantinople unarchbishopconstantinopled himself?

It means: if the arch bishop of Costantinople "dis-arch-bishop-of-Costantinople-ises", would you "dis-arch-bishop-of-Costantinople-ise" like the arch bishop of Costantinople did? (there's another repetition at the end but it doesn't make sense in english). The long word actually doesn't exist, it was created for this tongue twister

      So that means you think people are good at speaking languages like Hawaiian, Navajo, Cherokee, and Choctaw. English is a European language and therefore foreign.

    • @andyx6827
      @andyx6827 Год назад +24

      It's because English has completely weird vowels compared to all the other Indo-European languages. In almost all Indo-European languages, the vowels "a", "e", "i", "o" & "u" are pronounced more or less identically across the board and they're always monophtongs. But the English languages decided to say "ey", "i", "ai", "ouh", "you", which is wildly different and 4/5 of them are actually diphtongs.
      Native English speakers are therefore predestined to butcher everything. The only thing they'll be able get right is the consonants, sometimes 😂

      @@andyx6827😂 I think a lot of English language learners are super naive and think whatever they learn in textbooks or what the see in Hollywood is how all native English speakers speak. We native English speakers are not all even mutually intelligible so how can we all have the same pronunciations. It’s interesting to bring up consonant and vowel sounds when personally thought it was common knowledge that the
      spelling of a large number of English words is not universal😂😂 color/colour center/centre favorite/favourite check/cheque the list goes on
      There are native English speakers in countries like Jamaica, Bahamas, Guyana, Dominica. Not just the ones like Canada, the UK, USA and Australia which a lot of people tend to focus on.
      Actually many times I can tell what part of the USA someone is from simply by how they hit their vowels. In some places like Wisconsin words like beg and bag sound the same, in Kansas roof and rough sounds the same. Then in Scotland pull and pool will sound the same.

    • @RRR-dv5yl
      @RRR-dv5yl Год назад

      This is the most apparent with the "r" sound. The speakers of Romance and other European languages can pronounce it their 'sharp' way as well as the English/American 'potatoes in the mouth' way. But American can only do the latter.
