In Episode 1, Stefan tells Jeremy that he shouldn't try to kill himself because Anna's blood actually healed him already, and so if he died (suicide or not), there was a super high chance he would just not come back as the blood would have been gone by then. So Damon was definitely trying to kill him there. He didn't see the ring. Katherine pissed him off, Elena rejected him, and that's how he reacts. He lashes out, and usually try to break the good things around him. So there are no excuses really, Damon tried to kill Jeremy and got extremely lucky with the ring. He didn't know Jeremy was wearing it.

I love that Damon took the arrow for Elena, there was no hesitation. He protected her immediately. One of my favorite moments in this episode is on the porch where Damon was honest about not knowing that Jeremy was wearing the ring. We haven’t seen Damon apologize often so seeing him say sorry to Elena and regretting what he did was a big moment. What I love about Damon and Elenas interactions and their dynamic is that Elena isn’t afraid to be tough with him. She thanked him for the Petrova book and for his honesty but still told him that it didn’t mean things were back to the way that they used to be and he had lost her as a friend. They also called each other out which I think is good bc it means they don’t just see each others ‘good’ qualities and are comfortable enough to point it out. Elena having some sass and attitude is great, she’s not just going to be one dimensional. She can get info out of someone or negotiate when she needs to and I think that just makes her character all the more interesting.
@@vhana57 Spoiler Actually no I personally don’t think so, she still has attitude even later on. I think that from what I’ve seen some people place too much importance on who she’s with and let that effect how they view her. She has the same core characteristics and we see her becoming more confident + developing like all the other characters do. She’s not meant to stay the exact same throughout the show, considering everything she goes through and experiencing life as a vampire, but she’s just as tough and willing to say what’s on her mind even later on and we continue to see her using her negotiation skills/get info from people when it’s needed. The only thing I wish the writers would have done at some point in the show is delve into how the whole thing with her parents affected her, I think that would’ve helped a lot of people understand her more.They told more than showed how she was sad after losing her parents and bc of that some people forget what she’s been through and that she has survivors guilt when in reality that event on the bridge/the aftermath of it drives a lot of how she is and why she would risk herself for the people she loves. The most we get to see about this is when she kills the hunter in s4 and starts hallucinating. So no, I don’t think they ruined her attitude but I do wish they showed more of her ‘mental struggles’ so that viewers could be more compassionate towards her especially in moments where she gets emotional or when she makes decisions based on emotion.

Warning: I either don't comment or comment too long lol BUT: YAYYYY I love this episode for the wholesome Caroline and Stefan interactions lol. It was nice to see a bit more of a chill jokey Stefan and a Caroline that was annoying-ish, yes, but in a funny adorable way. Loved their banter and it seems like you guys like Caroline! She was one of the most solid turn-arounds for me on the show. Ric + Jenna are such a great ship, especially because its just two humans in a show of supernatural relationships, and that Rick Richard joke was SOLID 😭 I never really thought about the Aimee thing but yeah, I agree with Kyle. I think if your partner shows that they don't like a particular person being around you *because its clear they're into you* (not just because they're controlling or paranoid, that's a red flag), you should avoid being around said person. You can politely excuse yourself or have a brief convo and go... its not like Aimee wasn't aware Matt had a girlfriend, so it IS kinda like why hang around this guy you like but know is taken and know his girlfriend doesn't like you (we don't have any context to imply that Aimee was some close friend that Matt would feel weird cutting from his circle ya know?)? Limits reasonable doubt for innocent intentions BUT yeah boundaries and respect for your partners people is the takeaway I guess! Glad your consensus was that both Bonnie and Caroline were a little annoying in that scene where she gets the daylight ring. I love them both and understand both their perspectives though. Bonnie has seen/dealt with the negative consequences of being around vampires so by association- especially after seeing Caroline be unable to stop herself from making a kill- she'd be scared/wary/resentful. I know it'd be really hard for me to trust Caroline- not because I don't trust that my friend wants to be good, but because I know its possible the vampiric urges outweigh everything else sometimes and what if it can't be controlled? It literally wasn't, multiple times (Stefan, Vicki, and now Caroline) and Bonnie saw just how bad those urges can get on people that were morally good before. From Caroline's perspective though, no one wants to feel judged/abandoned/or like they're getting the cold shoulder from a close friend especially during something as chaotic and scary as becoming a vampire. I get them both, but I always go "aghhh stop be friends again!" seeing these episodes lol.

I love how viewers try to humanize damon and try to defend him. It's extra good bcoz he admits his mistake so it means the show never tries to defend him. The impact this character has over viewers 😍😍
Remember Caroline is a newbie vampire her emotions are heightened , so it's not her fault basically. But don't worry we have more 6 and a half seasons on our plate 😉. And I BET Caroline will be one of your top 3 characters at the end. BTW love your reaction and discussion portion is always fun 😂❤

Katerina is a Slavic name, and it is from russia, Kathrine is from Bulgaria which essentially is just a reach from Ruskis. Petrova is 100% russian roots for the last name “ova” is a famous ending with Russian last names. Damon’s one liners are great and the “a lot more than just your looks” is literally the best because Elena needs to be humbled sometimes lolll I LOVE Stefan and Caroline’s friendship, it’s amazing. Stefan has such calm vibes to him - as a teacher he’s also very patient and their dynamic is great. Elena and Stefan are too similar they kind of are boring together as characters.
Again, my comments are always way too long or non existent lol... sorry in advance! Let me start this by saying I'm not an Elena fan and my absolute favorite Damon is the Damon we get in S1 and 2. Damon's a bad guy with sucky morals (speaking on what Times6ix has posted so far so I'm not talking about future things to avoid spoilers!). It's PART of his appeal! He does horrible things impulsively and you get to fall into the cycle of watching for the traits, backstory, and actions that could make him redeemable. This is a common bad boy character archetype because people love it, especially in characters meant to be hot loners or in love triangle scenarios. The sarcastic character who is a loose canon and is dangerous but has a short list of people they would be dangerous FOR instead of TO... it makes hearts everywhere swoon and the TVDU has a good few that I love 😭. But you risk ruining the whole hype by saying he's never wrong or trying to excuse him a lot. Enjoying a character doesn't have to mean trying to justify their actions or seeing no faults! Anyways, I say all that because usually people assume you're hellbent on defending a character in the show no matter what happens, and I'm trying to say "Nah, as of this episode, I have no strong desire to shoot down or build up any of the more controversial characters. All biases aside!" That said, if you think about it, the Katherine comment Damon makes isn't true (though it's a DEEP cut like gosh that'd be such a good line for other moments I feel). Katherine's manipulations so far are born from a desire to survive and her own amusement. If Elena were like Katherine in these episodes, she would've been flirting with or had kissed Damon just to mess with him. She didn't though. She told him she cared, but she was in love with Stefan which isn't news- no mixed signals at all- and drew a clear line in the sand that Damon forcefully crossed. Elena saying stop and physically trying to push Damon off should've been more than enough for Damon to stop. Consent lol, that's important. It doesn't matter at all if Damon thought Elena might feel something more for him because in that moment she was saying no. There's a scene in the Twilight series that should come to mind if you've seen it, and man is it a gross concept especially knowing these supernatural beings have the strength (and in TVD the ability to compel) to force these human girls to keep still if they want them too. Damon was hurt, yes, but Elena said no dude, and he doesn't advance on her anymore but he *does* punish her/lash out by killing Jeremy and noooo. In the famous words of Edward Cullen, "Let me give you a clue [guy that thinks a girl wants him and takes action without consent]: wait for her to say the words." We cannot pretend that was ok or that it doesn't warrant at *least* Elena giving Damon at the cold shoulder. If you think Tyler in the woods with Vicki in the series pilot was wrong, you can't justify that scene. Damon is allowed to be hurt by Katherine's words and even Elena's! Rejection sucks, a lot. But like... walk away dude. So if Elena doesn't wanna be Damon's friend right now but acts cordial to get vital info and hopefully prevent anymore lash-outs, I don't blame her lol. If it was me I would've put vervain in Damon's coffee. He snapped my brother's neck man😭 We've seen Elena take action against Damon before by distancing herself or relying on his soft spot for her to protect herself or others in a way that can be seen as manipulative, because she can't fight him or get any other upper hand... so this also isn't out of character for her. If someone finds her hypocritical for it I would say it's nothing new but totally fair to not like it I guess! And I know it's just a show, but the commentary around "bad boys" that show aggression, force, etc is alarming lately like ahhhh! Just be careful lol, especially when you're expressly being told BY the bad guy that they're bad and they know it but won't change or try to. Damon follows up his actions by lying about them, twice, saying he knew Jeremy had the Gilbert ring on because it would lessen the blow of what he'd done if it seemed like he knew Jeremy would be ok. Then when he finally tells the truth and Elena says yeah, no, I can't be ok with that (who could?), he gets upset again and compares her to someone who hurt him for fun. Talk about manipulation. Basically I love watching S1+2 Damon but that doesn't mean explaining his canon characteristics away and the realest gag is that Katherine is the peak manipulator here tbh, because look at all of the events that came from her just telling Damon, "It was always Stefan"? LIKE KATHERINE IS A MASTERMIND even with us as the audience and the characters themselves being warned that Katherine was playing psychological games. Everyone still plays right into Katherine's hand and the infighting and schism begins... genius lol. So yeah, Damon messed up big time. Can he recover from that? We'll watch and see! And that's the real fun of a character written with the archetype Damon is supposed to have... an audience starts anticipating their redemption, not genuinely excusing them *as* they do bad things! Anyways, no spoilers, but this isn't even close to how gray or just dark some characters can and do get in the show (and the fandom as a result). If this pretty clear situation gets people going, imagine how bad your comment section is gonna be down the line 😭 lol.

Yes on the show, they mention it several times. It’s unsure of if Stefan and Damon were born in Italy but their father Giuseppe 100% was and came over to America with them. The Salvatore’s were a “founding family” so they first generation.
@@shade8569 I’ve watched the entire series and all the spinoffs so I know that vampires are stronger than werewolves. Literally the only danger they pose at all to vampires is literally once a month only and only because of the venom in their bite! other than that vampires are killing werewolves 9 times out of 10. Heck that’s going to be proven in upcoming episodes. Also they don’t know about the originals yet so spoilers! but since you mentioned it, even one of the originals states in a future episode that vampires are superior to werewolves… sooo yeah really.

I love how viewers try to humanize damon and try to defend him. It's extra good bcoz he admits his mistake so it means the show never tries to defend him. The impact this character has over viewers 😍😍
Remember Caroline is a newbie vampire her emotions are heightened , so it's not her fault basically. But don't worry we have more 6 and a half seasons on our plate 😉. And I BET Caroline will be one of your top 3 characters at the end.

I LOVE Stefan and Caroline’s friendship, it’s amazing. Stefan has such calm vibes to him - as a teacher he’s also very patient and their dynamic is great. Elena and Stefan are too similar they kind of are boring together as characters.

Let me start this by saying I'm not an Elena fan and my absolute favorite Damon is the Damon we get in S1 and 2. Damon's a bad guy with sucky morals (speaking on what Times6ix has posted so far so I'm not talking about future things to avoid spoilers!). It's PART of his appeal! He does horrible things impulsively and you get to fall into the cycle of watching for the traits, backstory, and actions that could make him redeemable. This is a common bad boy character archetype because people love it, especially in characters meant to be hot loners or in love triangle scenarios. The sarcastic character who is a loose canon and is dangerous but has a short list of people they would be dangerous FOR instead of TO... it makes hearts everywhere swoon and the TVDU has a good few that I love 😭. But you risk ruining the whole hype by saying he's never wrong or trying to excuse him a lot. Enjoying a character doesn't have to mean trying to justify their actions or seeing no faults! Anyways, I say all that because usually people assume you're hellbent on defending a character in the show no matter what happens, and I'm trying to say "Nah, as of this episode, I have no strong desire to shoot down or build up any of the more controversial characters. All biases aside!"
That said, if you think about it, the Katherine comment Damon makes isn't true (though it's a DEEP cut like gosh that'd be such a good line for other moments I feel). Katherine's manipulations so far are born from a desire to survive and her own amusement. If Elena were like Katherine in these episodes, she would've been flirting with or had kissed Damon just to mess with him. She didn't though. She told him she cared, but she was in love with Stefan which isn't news- no mixed signals at all- and drew a clear line in the sand that Damon forcefully crossed. Elena saying stop and physically trying to push Damon off should've been more than enough for Damon to stop. Consent lol, that's important. It doesn't matter at all if Damon thought Elena might feel something more for him because in that moment she was saying no. There's a scene in the Twilight series that should come to mind if you've seen it, and man is it a gross concept especially knowing these supernatural beings have the strength (and in TVD the ability to compel) to force these human girls to keep still if they want them too. Damon was hurt, yes, but Elena said no dude, and he doesn't advance on her anymore but he *does* punish her/lash out by killing Jeremy and noooo. In the famous words of Edward Cullen, "Let me give you a clue [guy that thinks a girl wants him and takes action without consent]: wait for her to say the words." We cannot pretend that was ok or that it doesn't warrant at *least* Elena giving Damon at the cold shoulder.
If you think Tyler in the woods with Vicki in the series pilot was wrong, you can't justify that scene. Damon is allowed to be hurt by Katherine's words and even Elena's! Rejection sucks, a lot. But like... walk away dude.
So if Elena doesn't wanna be Damon's friend right now but acts cordial to get vital info and hopefully prevent anymore lash-outs, I don't blame her lol. If it was me I would've put vervain in Damon's coffee. He snapped my brother's neck man😭 We've seen Elena take action against Damon before by distancing herself or relying on his soft spot for her to protect herself or others in a way that can be seen as manipulative, because she can't fight him or get any other upper hand... so this also isn't out of character for her. If someone finds her hypocritical for it I would say it's nothing new but totally fair to not like it I guess! And I know it's just a show, but the commentary around "bad boys" that show aggression, force, etc is alarming lately like ahhhh! Just be careful lol, especially when you're expressly being told BY the bad guy that they're bad and they know it but won't change or try to. Damon follows up his actions by lying about them, twice, saying he knew Jeremy had the Gilbert ring on because it would lessen the blow of what he'd done if it seemed like he knew Jeremy would be ok. Then when he finally tells the truth and Elena says yeah, no, I can't be ok with that (who could?), he gets upset again and compares her to someone who hurt him for fun. Talk about manipulation.
Basically I love watching S1+2 Damon but that doesn't mean explaining his canon characteristics away and the realest gag is that Katherine is the peak manipulator here tbh, because look at all of the events that came from her just telling Damon, "It was always Stefan"? LIKE KATHERINE IS A MASTERMIND even with us as the audience and the characters themselves being warned that Katherine was playing psychological games. Everyone still plays right into Katherine's hand and the infighting and schism begins... genius lol.
So yeah, Damon messed up big time. Can he recover from that? We'll watch and see! And that's the real fun of a character written with the archetype Damon is supposed to have... an audience starts anticipating their redemption, not genuinely excusing them *as* they do bad things!
Anyways, no spoilers, but this isn't even close to how gray or just dark some characters can and do get in the show (and the fandom as a result). If this pretty clear situation gets people going, imagine how bad your comment section is gonna be down the line 😭 lol.
That was really good, and well thought out . I am a TOTAL Stephan/Stelena fan, but I can relate to your explanation based on your detailed synopsis of the show and the characters up to this point. :)

Yes on the show, they mention it several times. It’s unsure of if Stefan and Damon were born in Italy but their father Giuseppe 100% was and came over to America with them. The Salvatore’s were a “founding family” so they first generation.

@@shade8569 I’ve watched the entire series and all the spinoffs so I know that vampires are stronger than werewolves. Literally the only danger they pose at all to vampires is literally once a month only and only because of the venom in their bite! other than that vampires are killing werewolves 9 times out of 10. Heck that’s going to be proven in upcoming episodes. Also they don’t know about the originals yet so spoilers! but since you mentioned it, even one of the originals states in a future episode that vampires are superior to werewolves… sooo yeah really.

At first I hated damon so much and thought even if he's a vampire how can he be so cruel, and then they dived more into stefan's past. He's much, much worse lol.
