It's more like an early DSLR both in operation (advanced settings but slow write/read times) and image quality (at low ISO). If you want to know more about how to achieve a film look on a digicam, check this post: www.reddit.com/r/VintageDigitalCameras/comments/16iid8k/long_post_full_guide_on_how_to_get_the_filmlike/ Now when I've posted the video I realized I didn't mention the viewfinder, but really there is not so much about it anyway! There is no exposure information in it, it is mostly good to use in strong light when the screen wont show properly. It can be used in conjunction with the top LCD though, and that way you don't have to have the back screen on when photographing. Not so convenient maybe.More detailed photos can be found on my Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/194604925@N04/albums/72177720310894207
I have been shooting on occasion with my G5 for 20+ years now. Still takes a good pic. Funny that i have never used the video, At the time I bought it it was my first really good Digital camera and at the time it cost more than any camera I had bought since 1958, but there have been many cameras since that are far more expensive, except when you factor inflation and upgrades and features.
Yes, the digital system was revolutionary, with many hitches at first. But you have taken some great shots with this camera. Really liked your nature balanced with your architectural shots.
I like how it presents blue colors (e.g. 2:55)...feels like a nice cityscape cam? Thanks for the samples, I have this camera but haven't taken it out for a real test yet. Mine has that same features sticker on the front. 😎
The lens is quite good throughout the zoom range, so it works great for picking out details in cityscapes and landscapes. It's a bit slow, so I didn't try so many other subjects, but with some practice it can probably be used for street photography even.
Fun review, thanks. I have a G1 and a G 12. I bought the G1 used, I could not afford it when it came out, but 20 years later and I now have it. I bought the G 12 new and used it a lot. I put a flash on it and started shooting in manual, both camera and flash. I have put the flash on the G1 and must admit seldom is my picture exposed well until the second or more shot. That is what digital is all about. Put a flash on it and shoot in manual, skip the video.
i bought a G5 weeks ago, i love the ccd colors btw, but when i tried the ND filter on the menu it doesnt do anything, it some kind of mechanical/software failure?
I'm not familiar with the issue but I would guess a mechanical failure. If it's a software problem it might be possible to solve with a firmware update.
The only way I can get my photos on my Mac from this camera is with a CompactFlash card reader. I got one from best buy for $35 the brand is insignia. I just plug it in my computer and then I can move the photos onto my computer to store them and delete them off the compactflash card to keep my storage freed up to take more photos!
The Canon Powershot G5 used to be my go to portable camera back in the day. It takes nice color photos. Video.. no. Don't use that because it is bad. The major downside is that the rubber hand grip deteriorated over time and I had to put electrical tape over it. Still an occasional, fun user today.
Yeah I just like trying the video modes on old digicams for fun! I hear a lot about the rubber grip dissolving, so I guess it will happen at some point.

The video quality isn't so good, so it's understandable why it wasn't used!

Thank you very much! The camera can give very nice results sometimes!

Got mine for £20 about a year before the digicam craze started and the price skyrocketed.
Also got mine at about the same price at the same time, fortunately! Quite interesting how the prices have increased so much for certain models.
bought me today a canon powershot s5is and i hope i can get good results too with this camera, some components looks very similar
I still use mine when I go to parties though it can be a bit slow and hangs sometimes.

I found my canon g5 at home. Can you tell me which charging adapter to buy?
It uses the CB-5L charger and BP-511 batteries.
How did you extract the photos from the camera? I’m having trouble doing that.
Either with a USB card reader, or a USB cable directly between the camera and computer.
i cant connect it with my macbook pro from 2014, it has macOS high sierra. Can someone help?

hi, can this camera create a film-look straight out of the cam?
Hi! I suppose it depends on what you mean with film-look. In daylight the photos remind me of the DSLRs from the time, not really of film.
Is the rubber sticky? Mine’s turned into chocolate!
The rubber seems fine, the camera has probably not been used for a long time. But I suppose at some point it will start disintegrating!

How do i export my photos from that camera to my phone?
I don't know if there is a way to do it directly. The easiest way is probably to copy them via a computer.
Really is a joke a 2001 camera ,, you have to buy an usb adapter to cd for pc
@@mikaelrphotohow to take thıs on my Chromebook

No, it uses Compact Flash
