Nikon D90 in 2024 - Surprisingly Good Still Today!
Trying out the Nikon D90 - a prosumer level DSLR from 2008. Really nice usability, small and light body for a DSLR and good image quality. The biggest advantage over the predecessor, the D80, is the high ISO. It also has video, but it's nothing special - this was after all the first DSLR with a video function.

Searching for the Perfect Low Light / High ISO Digicam

Even though I have already found the perfect vintage digital camera for High ISO photos I find myself missing a lot of shots. The reason simply being the size of the camera - I don't have it with me all the time! 95% of all D70/D70s do have the issue with the sticky camera rubber, or best being said, the adhaesive is vaporizing out of the plastic, because of that - it becomes very sticky. My D70s isn't sticky, i am lucky. It never was. But i've seen many D70(s) which are sticky as hell.

  • @marcp.1752
    @marcp.1752 День назад

    If someone can't create a decent composition with a D70 - one should look for a different hobby, because you can't do that with any other gear. Have the subtle upgraded D70s since 2005, still shoot it 2-5 times per annual, nowadays.

  • @marcp.1752
    @marcp.1752 День назад

    This was my 1st Nikon DSLR, back into 2002! 6 MP are enough - even today. If you make your composition(s) carefully - and don't crop, or only with a slightly, modest crop - if ever, nowadays. Still shooting my D70s, occasionally, via 18-70 DX "Kitlens", which is a good one. Still nowadays. Only thing which ever bugged me since 2005 here - the D70(s), both have a very small OVF, into contrast - my 1998 F60 entry level Nikon is a FHD cinema screen, for real. All glas pentaprism, you can eyeball into all corners. Same goes for the mediocre F50. If you shoot film, avoid the F65/F75 - both feel like a toy camera, very small, dim lit pentamirror OVF, instead of a bright, big all glass pentaprism OVF. /edit fixed typo

    It's good enough in 2030 if you get one that works. It is a tool. You are the talent. You know the technique, you know your story. I love older cameras because you get the experience of being more you, not the camera doing it for you. A purity. I like the D700 Nikon for my vintage shots. My Canon 1DX and D800 Nikon. My Sonys are my get it done cameras. But Canon less, Nikons especially the D700 I explore more.

    I currently own D200, D300, D700, D7200 and D850. I purchased them all brand new when first released. For me there is something going on with the D200 CCD sensor camera files that I really love. I currently use the D200 and D700 the most which covers my FF and Crop sensor needs. If the D300 was FF I would use this also as there is something going on with the files and I prefer it over the D700. I think the D300 colours are closer to the D200 than the D700. I can go through files in Lightroom and can really notice the colours popping when I see D200 files I've taken even even back in 2006. The D850 and modern digital cameras are great if you want a hires "digital photocopy" of a scene but for me they really are sterile and lack character compared to my older cameras.

      I have or have had all those from new too, plus d810 and the D70. The D70 will surprise you with its files. Much more noisy, but very appealing with some sunbjects. The rest are all the same to me.

      I feel the same way about D200, I don't even own this model, but since I liked photos that shot on film, when I knew that there's case between CCD vs CMOS, I've been looking into a lot of D200 sample photos (of course on internet) compare to modern CMOS cameras, the difference is distinguishable. D200 is obviously better color rendition. I have D3400, color from any profile looks dead, like there's no variant in the color tone, while colors in D200 photos have variant color tones, makes it vibrant and glowing. Not sure I describe things right, but yeah I just an amateur anyway.

  • @Electronics_Collection
    @Electronics_Collection 17 дней назад

    I think D90 is between two eras in colors. After it, the cameras shoot more realistically, but somehow not as beautifully as the previous models, just in my opinion. When I had to buy my first DSLR, many people advised me to buy the D90, here in my region it was legendary, but in the end I bought the D3200, just the video capabilities and the price were my priority. Now I almost never use the D3200 for photography, it's boring realism. I never got the D90 anyway, I think I don't like its colors more than the d80. So I don't think it would contribute more positives to me than the d80, except for a little better light sensitivity of the sensor. I like it, there are unique photographs taken with it, but having a d80 I don't need it. For now, you know this camera thing is like a disease, you want one, then another, you end up with more cameras than space, it's scary :D Good video by the way and very nice photos! You have a sense and skills for photography, I'm not that good a photographer, I just collect them and take them for a walk. A video comparison between d90 and d80 would be interesting. I'm not completely familiar with their differences.

    • @mikaelrphoto
      @mikaelrphoto 16 дней назад

      I was thinking about putting in some D80 photos, but the subjects were too different. So I'm thinking about doing a comparison when there are more autumn colors. Yeah it's becoming a bit too many cameras to handle, I think I will have to challenge myself by not buying any cameras next year and focus on taking pictures instead :D Thanks for liking my photos and for watching!

    I'm trying to get into photography and someone told me that this is the perfect beginner camera. How do you sell your photos for calendars, etc? I've tried Shutterstock but it's not really working out lol I would like to focus on animals or landscape photography but I don't know where to begin. Should I take classes? @mikaelrphoto 17 дней назад

      Stock photography is pretty much dead now that AI images are so readily available. The easiest way to sell photos is to shoot portraits and events. It's good to learn photo editing, doesn't have to be Photoshop. Lightroom, Capture One and Darktable are some popular editing programs. One way to get started is to learn the manual settings of the camera and to shoot and edit raw files. There are plenty of tutorials on RUclips.

      I'm quite surprised the actual camera used was found, on the other hand I'm not surprised it's this model, it has the right vibe.

      @@mikaelrphoto Yeah, would be cool. The back layout with the buttons is what feels Leica-like. That Sony noise is crazy by the way, a bit of a surprise...like getting up-close to an old TV monitor.

    What kind of memory stick does the s50 use I just bought one and it doesn’t come with a memory stick. I’m new to cameras so I’m worried about buying a memory stick that won’t work with the camera

    • @mikaelrphoto
      @mikaelrphoto Месяц назад

      Max size it accepts is 128mb. Preferably the original, long, type of memorystick. Duo might also work, I have a 16mb duo card that works with an adapter.

      @@mikaelrphoto I can’t use anything over 128mb? Can I not use the current 16gb memory stick? Sorry for the questions the memory stick I see for this camera are so expensive around 40-50 bucks I’m looking for an alternative but I’m worried the newer memory sticks won’t work.

      I tried a 2gb memorystick duo, but it doesn't work. According to Sony's documentation the max size is 128mb, so unfortunately the newer cards are not compatible.

    Raw (NEF) files on the D100 are significantly faster to write if you turn off compression in the settings. By default, compression is enabled. It takes around 45 seconds to write a file with compression enabled and around 4 seconds with compression disabled.

    The comment about the Tokina 12-24 working well on the D700 after 18mm was very useful. Thanks. I have the same lens and am looking at buying a D700 again at some point. Used to own one but sold it which I regret now. Thanks, Mikael. I have just subscribed too.

      Great that you found my video useful! It's definitely an interesting lens to use on an FX camera. Still It does show some flaws like vignetting at 18mm. The Tokina 11-16mm also works on both FX and DX but I haven't tried that one yet. Thanks for subscribing!

      There are 3rd party manufacturers, searching for "NB-2LH" should find some. The quality varies a lot though, but for example Patona makes ok batteries.
