It took 20 years of progress and reaching the pinnacle of photographic evolution for people to understand that the cameras released 20 years ago were of ENOUGH quality to shoot, have fun, have great photos to remember and grow in their experience as a photographer =)
True. I think about this all the time but I needed to go along that ride of photographic evolution in order to realize and truly appreciate the innovation, simplicity and design of cameras from 20 years ago (along with phones, video games and consoles)
Amazingly, you don't need to spend 6k on a single camera, and several thousands more on lenses to take nice pictures. I spent £40 on a 1986 Polaroid camera (and some more for some film) and I'm taking the best looking photos I've ever taken. Just purchased this exact PowerShow G2, can't wait for it to come
And if you look 40 years back you will realise that the most valuable pictures are usually made with Polaroid or the cheapest compact film cameras from people with zero clue about photography.. That was the purpose of these cameras..
It's really incredible just how good the images appear to be out of this camera. For the time it was released, consumer digital photography had only really been around for 5 or 6 years. And yet, Canon managed to produce a feature rich camera that produces the Canon colours that we all still enjoy today. I have a 'broken' G2 in the post that cost a few euros. I will wait and see if it can be fixed. I always enjoy your videos, and the locations for your shots are stunning. Romania is such a beautiful country.
i'm glad you like my content, thanx a lot! And yes, these old Canon cameras were top of the line when they came out... hope you can fix yours, good luck!
Look at the size of that thing.. It has a larger sensor than most typical compact cameras, it has a high Pixelpitch of 3,1 µm.. These are real quality specs not even a Canon S95 or other popular compact cameras can deliver.
I'm actually rather impressed, these images look pretty good! I imagine the dynamic range isn't great, but if you get your exposure right the colors and sharpness for 2001, and for a point and shoot no less is amazing! Great video
I got mine before 2012 for 15 Euros. When I looked it up I saw that it was once a 1000 Euro camera. I do like thecolors I get from it. Thanks for the review!
I had a very similar Canon a620, the user-friendliness was fantastic. Fill-flash was a pleasure, one could change the flash exposure intensity as well like exposure. There was a provision of low light fill flash setting which feature I liked most, where the camera set long time exposure( say 1/13 sec ) along with the fill-flash. Pleasing photos in the eveningtime at home or outside. The flip screen was another feature I liked which enabled me to take photos at ground level or from above my head. Macro photos ( only wide ) were very good. After about 18000 exposures, the camera stopped functioning.
@@JohnyDigiCam3000 It arrived today! Perfect camera (apart from the sticky grip), I haven't received the CF card reader yet so haven't been able to view the images on my PC, but I'm a big fan of this camera, including its looks.
I had one of these cameras in my hands at a thrift store. But it had no battery and I had no memory card of that type, and no way to know it it worked. They only wanted $6 for it and I have been kicking myself ever since for not taking a chance on it.
People want 100 to 150 Euros.. However observing the market, the hype IMO has slowed down.. Almost no sales but many expensive offers.. I see the same cameras on sale for months and they dont sell..
I thought i mentioned some settings in the video... so i think i bumped up the saturation and contrast for jpg's, and i also shot in RAW format and boosted a little bit the colors in photoshop. The rest is just good light from sunset, sunrise or long exposure at night, with camera on tripod. Good luck!

I love this cam. My uncle gave me his old one. I still use it in 2024. Great fun camera. Was over 1000$ and state of the art when it came out.
Exactly, it was on the top back then.. now it's just nostalgic, but the pictures are very good.

Just a small Canon Selphy printer. Thanx!
Johny do you have the Panasonic LC5 to do a side by side shootout with these G2's?
No, i don't have that camera and nothing else similar...

Thanx very much!
How much memory did the CF card have ? Have the same camera but don’t know which CF card to buy
You need a small CF card, like.. 512Mb or smaller... the old ones work perfect with these digicams. Good luck!
