Btw, Jen, TEMPLE OF DOOM is a prequel as it's set in the 1930's and RAIDER OF THE LOST ARK is set in the 1940's. Indy in RAIDERS said he doesn't believe in magic but he clearly saw magic in this movie. I hate George Lucas's way of telling stories out of order.
Agreed. And people act as if they wouldn't be screaming their heads off if they were basically kidnapped and forced to see the grossest dinner party and death and insects and all that. It seems people miss that her character was there to show how crazy Indys life was to a regular person. Oh did I mention she was KIDNAPPED?!? 😂
In college, a friend of mine loved the Indy movies. He had just watched Temple of Doom, and was mindlessly mopping the floor in the dorm building as part of his student job. He thought he was alone, and was mumbling "Kali ma shut de day" or whatever from the heart pulling out scene, because he thought it sounded neat. He realized someone was behind him, turned around, and saw an Indian student standing him with a horrified look on his face. He asked why he was chanting that, and eventually, explained it was asking the god Kali for power, which is kind of creepy in Indian culture. Good laughs all around.
"A tiny, tiny piece in me kind of hopes she goes into the lava." 🤣 I didn't mind Willie so much. But, like everyone else, just loved Short Round! Watching this movie again, it's hard to believe Shorty/Ke Huy Quan is over 50 now.
It’s fun following Quan on Twitter.😃 I can’t believe he was only a year older than me (almost the same birthdays too😁) when I watched this in the movie theater!😄
When I walked into the movie theater in 1984 to see the Temple of Doom, the intro had just begun. As there was a big musical number on screen, I almost thought I was at the wrong movie in the wrong auditorium and just about turned around to go out!😅
I had a roommate from India who had never seen this film before. He thought it was one of the funniest things he’d ever seen. His favorite part was the depiction of Kali worshippers as heart-ripping psychos. He said that his father would sometimes celebrate Kali at certain holidays and the extent of it was getting ripped on whiskey.
" I wish we could just lift her out of this movie" - Oh, Jen... you and everyone else that's ever seen this movie! It would have been SO much better if he and Shorty had left her in the village... Honestly, if they made a movie today, focused on Short-Round as an adult swashbuckling treasure-hunter in Asia, I'd watch the heck out of that! Even more-so if they got the same actor to play him!
Short Round: Wow! Holy Smoke! Crash landing! Indiana Jones: Short Round, step on it. Short Round: Okey dokey, Dr. Jones. [turns his cap around] Short Round: Hold on to your potatoes! Willie: For crying out loud, there's a *kid* driving the car!
I watched this movie when I was probably 8 years old with my dad. It freaked me out. Lol. During a commercial break, my dad went to use the bathroom and I went to my toy box to get a toy gun...for protection lol. When I came back to the tv room my dad jumped out of the dark and scared me. I melted the trigger on that toy gun lol. My dad laughed so hard. This film will always make me think of is watching it together
Haha, good times. I was an only child so I used to stay with the kids next door after school and often in weekends whenever my parents weren't about. The neighbours had quite the vhs collection and Temple was one we watched a lot of when they first got it. I remember the older brother would often be chasing his two sisters around the house yelling out the "Kali Ma Shakti De" phrase and hold his hand out as if he was going to rip their hearts out, lol. Lots of screaming and running around would ensue until their parents would yell at them all to quiet down.
Marion's in Nepal, still. This is 1935, one year before Raiders of the Lost Ark, which took place in 1936. Last Crusade takes place in 1938 and Crystal Skull is in 1957. Oh, I've always liked Willie. She's an indoor girl, and a "fish out of water" - compared to Marion, the two-fisted drinking, strong woman. They wanted a love interest the complete opposite of Marion. And Willie lends herself to a lot of fun physical comedy. She also redeems herself in the end too, even punching a thuggee herself!
Temple of Doom and its graphic scene of a heart being ripped out and the guy being sacrificed are the reason they created "PG-13", the rating between "PG" and "R". This movie remained PG but another movie the same year "Red Dawn" was the first movie to get the new rating. Looking forward to you seeing the next one, the best imo.
They did the inflatable life raft out of an airplane test on Mythbusters. It could actually work but keeping it upright in the most advantageous position, falling with the widest area of the bottom of the raft kept downward against the on-rushing air, would be difficult.
Mythbusters did do you the inflatable raft but the crash course dummy with it's sensor's said no one would live. They did do the emergency slide and the crash course dummy did survive the fall
@@bryangold9616 - I only recalled that the dummies in the falling raft had to be perfectly balanced in it to have a chance to survive. Most of the tests resulted in the inflatable raft tipping over and nose-diving, causing the dummies' accelerometers to indicate far too much G-force on impact - since they ended up falling out of the tipped raft. Pretty sure they eventually readjusted and locked the dummies in at the perfectly calculated spot and it then kinda worked due to not tipping and plummeting. Of course, that would be practically impossible to do on the fly, as in the movie.
The timeline is, that this adventure takes place before Raiders (the first movie), so you were right about that… 😃 1 and 3 are still my favorites, but I also love this movie so so much… Can’t wait for the next Indiana movie reaction from you… 😃
Although the second film in the series, Temple of Doom actually takes place before Raiders. Temple of Doom - 1935 Raiders of the Lost Ark - 1936 The Last Crusade - 1938 Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 1957 Indy 5 (title TBC) - Late 1960s. I know this due to them recreating the NYC welcome home parade for the Apollo 11 crew in Glasgow. Also, one of the filming locations here in the UK, isn’t far from where I live & I got to see some of the filming taking place. Interestingly, Harrison Ford has reference dots on his face, which leads me to believe that they’ll be digitally de-aging him, so that he’ll be visually closer to the character in the 1960s. Fun Facts: Pankot Palace was achieved through a mixture of matte paintings & also a set built at Pinewood Studios. During the fight in the room, Harrison Ford ruptured a disc & despite being an horrific pain, he managed to keep shooting. Pat Roach (the Nazi minced by the plane in Raiders) reappears as the Thugee guard who gets crushed. Also, Dan Ackroyd has a cameo…..he greets Indy at the airport!!
As noted, this actually takes place before the events of "Raiders of the Lost Ark". They did that so Indy could go on whatever adventure they dreamed up and it wouldn't affect any of the future characters. Also, fun fact: Willie is played by Kate Capshaw, who a few years after this film was released just happened to become the wife of some guy by the name of Steven Spielberg... ;-)
Totally agree about Temple of Doom. For me Raiders is a classic. My personal favorite all time film. Temple of Doom is merely a good fun popcorn flick. Nothing wrong with that but not as good as Raiders. Can't wait to see the reaction to Last Crusade.
Jen "I'am into the kiss if it shuts her up" well I think that sums up the movie pretty well. A good movie but very annoying Willie Scott, don't worry the third film is as good if not better than Raiders.
Willie is supposed to be annoying, unfortunately Cate Capshaw played the role so well it destroyed her career. Temple is actually my favorite of the trilogy but you do have to accept Willie for what Spielberg and Lucas intended her to be. They were both going through divorce so they made Willie as unlikable as possible. But she did marry Spielberg... so there's that...
The third film is the worst of the original trilogy. It’s just a carbon copy of raiders. I don’t even think anyone wrote a script, they just took the raiders script and changed a few words. Spielberg playing it safe, not taking Indy in any new adventure with any new bad guys. And the entire journey of last crusade was pointless because you couldn’t take the grail beyond the deal anyway.
Despite the annoying character of Willie, still this movie has a place in my heart. It has some of the best action sequences, cinematography, and Jonathan Ke Quan is great. And it's 100 times better than the 4th movie.
The Thuggee cult existed! They were more likely just an organized crime group, and started out long before the British came to India. I'm fairly sure the Brits used the hunt for them as an excuse to take out legitimate resistance groups, but taking down the Thuggee was one of the very few good-ish things they ever did in India (that and helping end the practice of _sati,_ the burning of widows).
The thuggee killed millions of men women and children, the british were able to stop them. There were stories saying dont travel alone in the mountains and if they saw a sash run, the thuggee would use to kill their victims and bury at side of the road and pray to kali etc
Never thought I'd see a movie Jen doesn't appreciate the 'love' interest or the beloved 'kiss' but here we are. Indy and the Temple of Doom is quite the movie. Fun fact, I believe it's rated PG which caused a stir back when it was originally released. Yeah this is a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. As always a great reaction!!
This is my favorite one. This is the movie that made me idolize the character when I was a kid. It was also the first one I saw. Well, I saw part of it. As a kid, I walked into the TV room and my dad was watching Temple of Doom on TNT or something. It was the scene where they ate monkey brains. And then a dude ripped out another dude’s heart. Then a guy got smashed in a rock crusher. Then there was a cool mine cart chase. I was hooked. I was so hooked, I went on to watch a home-recorded copy of Raiders constantly, even though I didn’t give a snake’s ass about nazis or the love story; I was just waiting til the end where the guys faces melted. I would rather have been watching TOD, but in the days of VHS tapes, you had to take what you could get. Anyway Jen, I love your reactions. Keep up the great content ❤️
Not a lot of people realize Temple of Doom is a prequel to Raiders. Willie is supposed to be a homage to screwball comedy actresses of the 1930's. That's why she's kind of annoying by modern audience standards.
Look up blues brothers speilberg is at the end of that as tax collector and dan was asked to cameo in tod because Steven was in bb. Google it, neat story. Dan is r weber and got indy the tix for the plane, indys last line to him is i owe u a gin.
You can dislike Willy and still love Kate Capshaw. A fun movie she is in that hasn't hit the reaction channels yet is "SpaceCamp" from 1986. Awesome ensemble cast when they were young...Joaquin Phoenix, Lea Thompson, Kelly Preston, Tate Donovan, etc.
Kate Capshaw was also very good in the Crime Thriller 'Just Cause' (1995) with Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Scarlett Johansson, Ruby Dee, Ned Beatty, Ed Harris & Blair Underwood. and she was also very good in the Sci-Fi Horror Thriller 'Dreamscape' (1984) with Dennis Quaid, Christopher Plummer, George Wendt, Eddie Albert, Peter Jason, Max Von Sydow & David Patrick Kelly.
Oh, I had forgotten about Space Camp. I was a senior in high school when that one came out. That movie had the horrible timing misfortune of coming out at about the same time the space shuttle Challenger disaster happened. NO one was interested in a movie about a space shuttle camp, and the movie bombed at the box office. I never saw it, was it any good? And does anyone under the age of (say) 45 or so know what the Challenger disaster was?
@@RDRussell2 - I saw it a couple of years after on HBO at the time. I enjoyed it. Even though it bombed at the box office, it got a second life on VHS and cable. Nowadays the film has a fan cult following.
Took me a long time and many watches to realize: Indy rushed to Willie’s room and didn’t find an assassin, but there must’ve been some secret passage in her room because of how one got into his and Shorty’s room without using their main doorway. And that’s when he noticed the slight breeze moving her flowers.
On the one hand, this has maybe the best action set pieces in the series. On the other, Kate Capshaw's Willie Scott is the toughest of tough hangs. She's absolutely insufferable.
The Jones-Scott relationship is also fashioned after the old screwball rom-coms from the 30s and 40s, where there was often a mismatched couple (their differences often caused by social class or backgrounds) who end up falling in love despite their hostile interactions or disdain for one another because "opposites attract."
I honestly think Temple of Doom is one of the most underrated movies of all time. (No, it's not perfect. I say this in light of the fact that so many outright dismiss it and pretend it's the worst movie ever made.) Harrison Ford has never been more charismatic. Indy's relationship with Short Round was cute and kind of heartwarming. There are scenes in Doom that are among the most creative and iconic in all the franchise. And even though the movie's balls-out, cartoony approach rubbed people the wrong way, you kind of have to admire the audacity of 1980's Spielberg.
Jen, you're being too hard on Willie. She was happy in Shanghai, then Indy shows up and suddenly she's on the run, being shot at, and jumping out of airplanes in a raft. She didn't ask for any of it. There's no way she's worse than the guy ripping people's hearts out. I can't wait till your reaction to the 3rd one. Keep up the good work.
A couple of Fun Facts for you Jen: 1):Kate Capshaw (Willie) would end up marrying Steven Spielberg after filming this movies 2): Pat Roach who played the Nazi mechanic that Indy fought in the airfield scene in the first movie played the Thugee Cult Member that Indy fights in the scene right before he, Willie and Short Round liberate the kids from the mines
There’s a theory circulating the Internet that Indiana Jones is nothing more than a fever dream of Han Solo when he was frozen in carbonite in The Empire Strikes Back 😳
I think you're the first person who acknowledged that Willie didn't sign up for it and was more or less abducted. Which yeah, that makes me far more sympathetic to her cause, goddamn, that sucked for her on every level.
06:45 Jen - "I hate her. Throw her off the raft!" Jen channeling virtually everyone who has to suffer through Willie. When I saw this in the cinema, we all missed Marion so much. At first I thought Willie would get better, she doesn't.
This movie is incredibly special to me. It came out during the year of my birth, it was the first VHS I ever owned, I watched it almost everyday as a kid, and it was gateway to horror films. I can practically recite the entire script. Also, the writing team behind this installment also came up with Messiah of Evil, which is a mind-blowing little independent horror film.
That must've been some great craftsmanship or a really strong ceiling fan to break that assassin's neck so easily, huh?? His body didn't even fall to the floor.
This is my favorite of all the Indiana Jones movies, it's so much fun, and i like Willy, she's funny, she is not like Marion, she is a city girl taken to the jungle and caves, forced to eat weird stuff, i do like how she reacted to all this.
As you allude to at around 15:47, Temple is actually a prequel to Raiders. Raiders taking place in 1936 and Temple in 1935. So, Indy hasn't found the Ark of the Covenant yet as of this movie. And yes, I can see how Willie can be a bit annoying but I kinda feel this one is a bit underrated as I've always liked it. I think it's the darker tone and the music is also really great. Anyway, keep up the good work, Jen, and looking forward to your Last Crusade reaction. :)
Short Round is an orphan. After this adventure Indy took Shortie to the US and paid for his education at a boarding school. Short Round later became an archaeologist just like Dr. Jones.
"Willy" was so universally disliked...it is the main complaint about this movie. Ironically, the actress (Kate Capshaw) was playing it exactly as Spielberg wanted....and even more ironically, she & Spielberg married and are still married almost 40 years later. It always makes me watch this film thru slightly different eyes. 🙂
the really really huge kinda odd looking bugs that you see climbing on indy's leg and other places during the Bug Tunnel are a type of stick insect, i think the "giant prickly stick insect" or one of the other kinds of giant stick insect (theres a lot of them) They are extremely friendly and calm and make great "bug pets" since they can be safely handled, gently, by anyone and have fairly easy care requirements. Some of them are surprisingly pretty to look at as well!
Good reaction Jen! U definitely cracked me up with some of the things you said...your not the first to react the way you did to willie, they say the only reason she got this role was because she was involved romantically with...a certain director of this movie, can't wait for your reaction to Last crusade!! That one is my personal favorite, thanks Jen! Take care!!...👍👍😁
26:26: There *is* an Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, but it’s *inspired* by the films, not a direct copy of the minecar chase. And the sounds of the cars on the tracks were recorded from the Space Mountain ride.
Four questions I've always had about this movie. 1. Why were the sacrifice's arms being held high up above him? 2. Why was a Thuggee wrapping his arms around the sacrifice's neck and holding the sacrifice's head back? 3. Why did Mola Ram stare at the sacrifice's chest for a few seconds after he held his hand over it? 4. Why did Mola Ram wriggle his hand around while it was going into the sacrifice's chest? If someone knows the answers to my questions, please reply and let me know. Thank you very much. 😊
Great reaction, Jen! You're really going to enjoy the third film. Since you like musicals, you might want to add Grease (1971) to your list so you can see a young John Travolta sing and dance.
The Main Villain Played by Armish Puri was one of India's Greatest Actors...In Most Bollywood Films He would always play the Villain...He Shaved His Head for this Role on the Request of George Lucas...
I'm glad you're continuing with the series! Me and this movie have something very big in common: filming wrapped in September of 83, I was born in September of 83, so we were both in production at the same time ;) Harrison threw his back out during the scene when the Thuggee attacks him in his room, his was out of commission, recovering for a good 2 months (?) ish. His return to filming was ironically Indy's intro in the movie when he sits down at the table with Lao Che and his men - for me, this kinda explains his demeanor in this scene. Herbert Johnson Hatters and Wested Lether, the London-based manufacturers of Indy's gear, still make his gear to this day and sell to the public, and each movie has their own jacket ;) Also, like all 3 Indy's, this was shot on the same stages as the OG Star Wars trilogy in London, so I'm always expecting Darth Vader to pop up somewhere :)
Indy just locks willy in the cage and leaves her lol, then the whole part with Shorty plays out but he's like, "Shorty. I'm ok, We're finally free from her" lol
The darkest and controversial Indiana Jones movie ever. It has elements from the original Screenplay of Raiders Of The Lost Ark: The opening scene was going to take place on The Great Wall Of China but this would be scrapped due to the countries filming policy. Another Draft of the script had Indy battling the Monkey King guarding the Tree Of Knowledge. The car chase on the streets of Shanghai, the mine car sequence and the plane crash were almost in Raiders. The third draft of the script involved Indy encountering dinosaurs in a Lost World of sorts.
Hi Jen. Great reaction as ever!! Not sure on the timing, but Spielberg and Capshaw were married IRL. Whether he cast he for her acting 'attributes' is open to interpretation, but it does seem that the old adage 'It's not what you know....' is true here! See ya Canuck from your English cousin. :- )
The actress who played Willie is actually named Kate Capshaw, but you might be happy to know that she several years (1991) after the movie she becomes Mrs Steven Spielberg and has been ever since
There was a ride at Universal for this movie, and there was also an arcade game. Every time I would go into an arcade you would hear this game saying "Welcome" like the bad priest guy says at the end.
IIRC, the human sacrifice scene was the impetus for the creation of the PG-13 rating because parents took their 8-9 year old kids to this PG rated film and freaked out at the violence
This movie takes place in 1935. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" takes place in 1936. So, "Temple of Doom" is a prequel to "Raiders". Since it is a prequel and we know from their meeting at the beginning of "Raiders" that Indy and Marion hadn't seen each other in many years, that explains why "his girl" (Marion) isn't in this movie.
This is my favorite Indy movie. I have an Indy poster that says," If adventure had a name, it must Indiana Jones." Wasn't clear how you felt about Willie!! 😄
People insinuated that Kate Capshaw was only cast because she was dating Spielberg and eventually became Mrs Spielberg. This movie is actually prequel to raiders of the lost ark.
This movie is actually a prequel to the first movie (Raiders of The Lost Ark). Also, the actress in this movie (Kate Capshaw) is married to Steven Spielberg.
I've always appreciated how this sequel (well, prequel technically) doesn't try to replicate the formula set out in the original film and actually tries to be quite different, with its subterranean horror and dark voodoo vibe this time around, and providing a completely different set of sidekicks with Indy, Short-Round and Willie feeling a like a surrogate family thrown together on the wildest vacation ever. While the more light-hearted third film feels much closer in spirit to Raiders than this does, interestingly a lot of the screenplay for Temple came from discarded ideas and sequences from earlier treatments for the Raiders script. Temple of Doom also features a number of similarities with the 1930s Cary Grant adventure film, Gunga Din, and some have even suggested Temple is intended as a continuation of the story from that earlier-set film, in that it is the same Thuggee cult come back after the British (in Gunga Din) "did away with them" and the rickety old bridges that feature in both films are one and the same.
Last crusade isn’t closer in spirit to raiders, it is raiders. Scared have a new story with new villains like temple. They played it safe. They just replaced the ark with the grail, belloq with Donovan, Dietrich with Vogel, t fight in the Nepal bar with the fight in Venice
Unpopular opinion: but this is the best Indiana Jones movie. But I think that's mainly because I love the horror genre a lot, and many parts of this movie went there.
That was the actress Kate Capshaw (Willy Scott) - She's Steven Speilberg's wife - also played in the movie Dreamscape with Dennis Quaid - Pretty cool movie about dream powers & sinister stuff. Came out in 1984 too. Cheers.
Fun Fact: This movie and 'Gremlins' are collectively the reason why we have the PG-13 rating in the US. Both movies were given a 'PG' rating when they were released in 1984 (a month apart), which was criticized by parents who thought the violence, etc was too much for a PG rating. In response, Spielberg suggested an interim rating between 'PG' & 'R'. Thus, two months later in August 1984, when 'Red Dawn' was released, it was the first movie to be given the newly-created 'PG-13' rating (if any of you win a trivia night having learned this from me, I expect nice things to be said about me going forward 😁).
However for hard core trivia folks DREAMSCAPE, also staring Kate Capshaw was the first film rated PG-13, RED DAWN was the first released. I thought the whole thing was silly as films like JAWS had way more blood and many PG films had exposed ( . Y . ) but the Reagan era ushered in the beginning of self righteous over zealous right wingers. Now studios don’t like to use PG as they feel it’s like G which I don’t think is even used much anymore.
I believe your stars align with most people on this one. Most people I'm sure are not fans of Willie, but we all love Short Round. I'm not sure why people told you that you needed to see this one to progress to the third movie, for one it's a prequel so it doesn't add anything to the storyline after "Raiders"; I think they just wanted to torture you, if they were tricked into seeing it then you must see it too. It was a great suggestion that they should pluck Willie right out of the movie; it would be an improvement. Another problem is they did Indy dirty in the opening scene making him into a sleazy treasure hunter; he has more character than that in the other movies.
Yeah, I used to think people should watch 1, 2, and 3 because there was no way they should miss 3, but then I realized it'd be perfectly fine to just watch 1 & 3. That's what I've recommended ever since.
Most excellent review Jen. Was disappointed that Shorty just gets this one episode. Would have loved to have him back in the Crystal Skull as an associate professor working for Indy but WTF. Poof gone. I have seen comments from people who say they like Willie. But Mr Spielberg married her. You didn't say anything about Dan Akroyd being in this. "Dr Detroit", "My Stepmother is an Alien", "Spies like us", "Trading Places", "Great Outdoors ". Just a few. You will like the last crusade more than this but...Anyway, good job and on to the next round.
While movie fans rate this movie as a slight letdown, the popularity of this movie inspired Konami, a video game company in Japan during the mid-80s produced an FDS (Famicom Disk System) game titled "Arumana no Kiseki" or "Miracle of Arumana", wherein the hero look alike of Indiana Jones sets off to find a sacred stone that was stolen and bring the villagers back to life because they turned to stone.
The girl wasn't your favourite character Jen lol I would never have guessed 😂 , it's an amazing achievement to make the bugs and gross food more appealing that a character 😅. Fun react😢as always Jen you were super funny as always 🙌
Short Round will return all grown up in Everything Everywhere All At Once, coming to RUclips Aug 16th! 👍
Short Round should be the new Indiana Jones in the 5th movie. I hate he isn’t going to be in the movie.

They tested the efficiency of a spare tire in Who Framed Roger Rabbit however, but it failed.
The timeline is, that this adventure takes place before Raiders (the first movie), so you were right about that… 😃
1 and 3 are still my favorites, but I also love this movie so so much… Can’t wait for the next Indiana movie reaction from you… 😃
Although the second film in the series, Temple of Doom actually takes place before Raiders.
Temple of Doom - 1935
Raiders of the Lost Ark - 1936
The Last Crusade - 1938
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 1957
Indy 5 (title TBC) - Late 1960s.
The best part about the Lego Indiana Jones games is if you play as Willie the only thing she can do is scream.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Willie screams 71 times in the film. That's approximately once every 100 seconds.
Lollll yes!!!
😂
This movie is one of the main reasons they came up with PG-13.
Thanks Logan!
Sounds like you were one twisted kid!
Not a lot of people realize Temple of Doom is a prequel to Raiders.
Willie is supposed to be a homage to screwball comedy actresses of the 1930's. That's why she's kind of annoying by modern audience standards.
A movie I highly recommend is the 1997 British comedy/drama 'The Full Monty. A much loved classic.
Hey, Jen! You will love to watch the 1985 sci-fi classic, "Enemy Mine." I just don't understand how no one watches this one.
Never noticed until now that it's Dan Aykroyd from SNL leading jones to the plane, such a weird small cameo
Never said I don't like the actress
Kate Capshaw was also very good in the Crime Thriller 'Just Cause' (1995) with Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Scarlett Johansson, Ruby Dee, Ned Beatty, Ed Harris & Blair Underwood.
and she was also very good in the Sci-Fi Horror Thriller 'Dreamscape' (1984) with Dennis Quaid, Christopher Plummer, George Wendt, Eddie Albert, Peter Jason, Max Von Sydow & David Patrick Kelly.
Yeah, I liked Dreamscape a lot.
She certainly charmed Spielberg. Ugh. There’s no accounting for taste.
Even Cate Capshaw hates Willie Scott.
Omg yes! So many comments here are mad I didn't like Willie but there ya go 😂
Fun fact: the majority the tunnel chase was done in stop-motion animation.
Willie is fashioned after women like the actress in original King Kong who screamed a lot.
The Jones-Scott relationship is also fashioned after the old screwball rom-coms from the 30s and 40s, where there was often a mismatched couple (their differences often caused by social class or backgrounds) who end up falling in love despite their hostile interactions or disdain for one another because "opposites attract."
I’d say she’s more like Carole Lombard, especially in My Man Godfrey.
"No time for love, we got company."
"It's like watching your crush kiss someone you _don't_ like." 🤣
Temple of Doom can be polarising, but we can all agree that Short Round is awesome!
I had a lot of fun watching this one ☺️👍
Jen, you're being too hard on Willie. She was happy in Shanghai, then Indy shows up and suddenly she's on the run, being shot at, and jumping out of airplanes in a raft. She didn't ask for any of it. There's no way she's worse than the guy ripping people's hearts out.
I can't wait till your reaction to the 3rd one. Keep up the good work.
10:43 👍
“Hang on… or don’t.” 🤣🤣🤣
"I'm into the kiss if it'll shut her up!" 🤣🤣🤣
I saw this one on opening day in 1984. I didn’t mind Kate capshaw’s character. She was easy on my 14 year old eyes 😆
Lol totally fair
A couple of Fun Facts for you Jen:
1):Kate Capshaw (Willie) would end up marrying Steven Spielberg after filming this movies
2): Pat Roach who played the Nazi mechanic that Indy fought in the airfield scene in the first movie played the Thugee Cult Member that Indy fights in the scene right before he, Willie and Short Round liberate the kids from the mines
Throw her off the raft!"
Jen channeling virtually everyone who has to suffer through Willie. When I saw this in the cinema, we all missed Marion so much. At first I thought Willie would get better, she doesn't.
And if you take anything from this movie, it's to always 'hold on to your potato.'
This movie is just so ridiculous and over the top. I absolutely love it!
It's good to see I'm not the only one.
Your being over with Willie is hilarious 🤣
Can't believe people said short round is annoying. He's the most capable child ever lol, and he can take on full grown adults lol
When you watch the 3rd movie, make sure you choose wisely.
26:26: There *is* an Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, but it’s *inspired* by the films, not a direct copy of the minecar chase.
And the sounds of the cars on the tracks were recorded from the Space Mountain ride.
I highly recommend "The Goonies"! Especially if you like "Short Round" (Jonathan Ke Quan)!
Not to mention Everything, Everywhere, all at Once.
Everything Everywhere coming to RUclips Aug 16th
I've seen The Goonies, one of my childhood favs!
I'm down for a rewatch.
@@jenmurrayxo Woohoo!!
"Skewered him with hot meat!"
I'm sure that sounded much dirtier than you intended. 😏
@Christa Simon Excellent suggestion! I knew there was another musical I wanted to suggest but the only thing that came to mind was Grease.
Speaking of Grease, have you guys heard that Olivia Newton-John has passed away today?:(
As many times as I've seen this, I just now noticed Delbert Grady from the Shining. "You have always been the caretaker, Dr. Jones."
The Main Villain Played by Armish Puri was one of India's Greatest Actors...In Most Bollywood Films He would always play the Villain...He Shaved His Head for this Role on the Request of George Lucas...
I'm glad you're continuing with the series!
Me and this movie have something very big in common: filming wrapped in September of 83, I was born in September of 83, so we were both in production at the same time ;)
Harrison threw his back out during the scene when the Thuggee attacks him in his room, his was out of commission, recovering for a good 2 months (?) ish. His return to filming was ironically Indy's intro in the movie when he sits down at the table with Lao Che and his men - for me, this kinda explains his demeanor in this scene.
Herbert Johnson Hatters and Wested Lether, the London-based manufacturers of Indy's gear, still make his gear to this day and sell to the public, and each movie has their own jacket ;)
Also, like all 3 Indy's, this was shot on the same stages as the OG Star Wars trilogy in London, so I'm always expecting Darth Vader to pop up somewhere :)
Indy just locks willy in the cage and leaves her lol, then the whole part with Shorty plays out but he's like, "Shorty. I'm ok, We're finally free from her" lol
I like the first 3 Jones’ all equally and I was never bothered by Kate Capshaw’s screams lol
The darkest and controversial Indiana Jones movie ever.
It has elements from the original Screenplay of Raiders Of The Lost Ark:
The opening scene was going to take place on The Great Wall Of China but this would be scrapped due to the countries filming policy.
Thugee jump scare at 20:15 always gets everyone and me too.
A great reaction, Jen. I feel that this film doesn't get enough love, the next one is excellent, I'm sure that you'll enjoy it more. 🙂
😂😂 I still had a blast watching this! 👍
The lead actress was Spielberg’s girlfriend who became his wife.
Cheers.
Jen, this is Speilberg's favorite, not because of any part of the movie, but because he met Kate Capshaw who would become his wife.
Since you love musicals, if you haven't already seen Moulin Rouge (2001), you should definitely add it to your list!
Neat , I have never been to a premier. Thanks for inviting me Jen!
The Last Crusade is my favorite movie out of all of them!
Did you know that Willie (Kate Capshaw) is Steven Spielberg’s wife? In fact I think they met and got together after this film 🥰
23:46 I hope to one day exit a room by laughing maniacally and escaping through a trap door! 😈
Jen -- "I don't want to see anything gross"
Me -- you picked the wrong movie. I've never even seen bugs that big.
I play the sacrifice ceremony music on Halloween. Funny thing is......no trick or treaters show up at my door. Lol
😄Steven must have seen something in Willie that we didn't. After all, she's Mrs. Spielberg now!😂
While movie fans rate this movie as a slight letdown, the popularity of this movie inspired Konami, a video game company in Japan during the mid-80s produced an FDS (Famicom Disk System) game titled "Arumana no Kiseki" or "Miracle of Arumana", wherein the hero look alike of Indiana Jones sets off to find a sacred stone that was stolen and bring the villagers back to life because they turned to stone.
22:07 - That look on Jen speaks volumes. Lol !
I love this movie so much, I had it memorized verbatim when I was a kid. Short round is great
I really did have fun watching this one ☺️
The girl wasn't your favourite character Jen lol I would never have guessed 😂 , it's an amazing achievement to make the bugs and gross food more appealing that a character 😅. Fun react😢as always Jen you were super funny as always 🙌
