I still love Capaldi’s entrance. First time viewing you’re in Clara’s shoes. Who is this guy? Why is he acting so weird? Next time around you realize he’s gauging Clara’s reaction to see how he’s changed. Then he notices the new kidneys because those are the first to go with old age. Then he has to remember how to fly the TARDIS because he hasn’t had to for centuries. No wonder he has trouble settling into becoming the Doctor again, wondering whether “The Doctor” is a good man. He’s not always, can’t always be. But in those first moments he’s basically acting Matt Smith wondering what his new face looks like, wondering why his best friend looks at him like that.
To clarify, for those not in the know. All Time Lords are from Gallifrey, but not all Gallifreyans are Time Lords. In order to become a Time Lord, you need to go through the academy where, upon completion of whatever training and trials they put them through, they are given a cycle of 12 regenerations. This cap was thought to be genetic, ie all Gallifreyans had the same thing, until it was established in The Five Doctors that extra regenerations could be granted, as it was the reward promised to the Master to help the various Doctors make it through the Death Zone. I also wont deny that, even though i was 41 when I first saw this, I became as giddy as a school boy when I realized they'd given him a whole new cycle, as it would mean the show could continue for another few decades. Also cannot deny being nearly broken by Amy's last words to him.
This was one of the first episodes I ever saw because it was randomly on TV and it got close to making me cry but It was also the episode that made me seek out the rest of the show and watch it in order.. so when I watched it again the second time around with context I bawled like a baby

The trickster was a great villain! and gets a nod in the Donna episode Turn Left. I know it wasn't a popular show but I hope they watch Class, if only for the first episode.
Moffat didn't expect Matt to want to leave at this time so Time of the Doctor was a rush job really to tie up all the loose ends. I didn't think so at the time but when I watched it a few weeks back I realised that he did actually manage to cover all the points pretty well. It's still not a favourite but it has improved in my favours.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I think Moffat had a rough idea/plan on how Matt's Doctor would leave. Because of the overarching arc of the Silence and the crack. Plus the at the end of series 6 were Dorian says "On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer. A Question will be asked, a question that must never, ever be answered. Doctor Who?" All of it can true in this episode. So I believe he did have a rough plan because so much needed to be connected together to make sense. Or could have fallen into place over time. It might have been in an interview somewhere with Moffat talking about his era. Might be wrong but defiantly heard it somewhere. Either way some pretty good writing and creativity to put it all together.
I like Time of the Doctor for putting the Doctor in a situation he can’t leave, for he has to protect the citizens of Christmas, plus the time locked event of his death of Trenzalore. So this is the Doctor accepting mortality and going out with a bang, doing the right thing. He takes a stand and where he stands is where he falls. And Moffat does it the most cruel way in a sense. He lets the Doctor live to death. Like the weeping angels (used to) do. He takes away Matts greatest strength, his youth and energy, and confronts us with hard reality of TIME, of aging. It robs us of the fantasy escapism and is why it saddens me so. Time is something the Doctor never really does, he never stays too long, if he gets bored he leaves or finds aliens to fight. He had to stay now. The Doctor didn’t like it, but when he had to, he did the right thing. In the end, as a real-life equivalent, the Doctor becomes the cooky old inventor at the end of the street, where the kids go to get their toys fixed, the mysterious man you call when there’s monsters in the woods. And in the end he’s an old man who lies, saved by his companions.
Gethin Jones that is true but he also thought Matt Smith would stay one more series for these things to have some breathing room. It was pretty much last minute, around filming Day of the Doctor, that he decided to leave after the Christmas special.
Originally the episode was going to end with 11's regeneration on the church and then the feet walking up the stairs would pan out to Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor. However, it was found that Karen Gillan was in London filming Guardians of the Galaxy, so they asked her if she would like a walk on part during the episode. She said yes and the rest is history! Both Karen an Matt were bald during the filming, Karen for her role as Nebula and Matt for a new play he was rehearsing, so they both wore wigs. The two of them did talk about doing a prank before filming by swapping wigs for the first take but never did so!
Especially when you realize that the music just before Eleven regenerates is a reprise of the Long Song from Rings of Akhaten. (Go back and listen to the lyrics of that song...)
Happy anniversary you two! Many more to come I hope! I cried too Megan. We all did. But great things are coming. _(And don't tease her too much Elliot - she's a rare and special girl.)_

Favorite little bit of trivia about the scene with Matt and Karen... both were bald at the time. Karen was filming Nebula and Matt was in a film where he was bald also. Both had wigs. :D Just kinda funny.
I love Capaldi’s doctor! I think a lot of people who talk about Doctor Who online do, a lot of the people who were really strong Tennant or Smith fans have quit :(
Ok.. A bit of trivia. The reason for the quick regeneration. Originally Clara arrived in the TARDIS and the figure coming up the stairs was Capaldi. Moffat decided he didnt want Matt Smith going out as a shouty old man so the additional scene was written in and filmed. Karen Gillan was in London having just finished filming on Guardians of The Galaxy. She had to shave her head for her role as Nebula. Matt Smith had his head shaved for a movie he had filmed before this was shot. So in that final bit both Matt and Karen were wearing wigs!
Can’t wait to watch your reaction to the ending of deep breath where more tears will come, if you know what I mean? I think Megan will find that bit emotional too
**looking at the title** Well, here we go :'( Eleven isn't my favourite doctor, but I will admit that I love and enjoy his era, so his regeneration scene still makes me cry a bit. It really doesn't help with other reaction who also crying, just to make it much sadder to me. *Discussion bit about The Timeless Children (SPOILER! To anyone who haven't get there. Just skip this part)* So there're a lot of confusion about Eleven's big regeneration with The Timeless Child explanation. I've seen many theories about how it could happen. My personal theory is that when The Doctor was forced turning to child, they also forcing their biology body to an Gallifreyan/Time Lord body. They probably used a Chamaleon Arch (maybe a prototype/early version before Human Nature/Family of Blood) to them and grant 12 regeneration to First Doctor. Of course, the question is is the current regenation is limited or unlimited? I suppose only time will tell. I'm quite exciting to see Megan's opinion with Twelve. He's my second favourite Doctor after Ten & (suprisingly) Thirteen. Some of his episodes is really, really good so I cannot wait to see the reactios :D
@EMS Productions I totally agree with your theory! Basically the energy given to the Doctor in this episode, just _unlocks_ his infinite regenerations. A lot of energy was suppressed throughout the previous 12, hence why this one flattened a PLANET!
My headcanon is simple: there was NEVER a limit for the Doctor, and the Timelords “gave” him new regenerations to hide the lie they had been perpetuating.
Yeah, I have the same headcanon. but in season 9 when 12 is back on Gallifrey Rassilon asks him "how many regenerations did we grant you?". Makes me think that even though Rassilon is one of the founding time lords he isnt aware of the timeless child. Either that, or he said it just as a threat.
@@mycroft16 they did. He was dead before the time war. They ressurected him in order to fight in it. There is in fact a video all about the masters timeline on RUclips. Search for it and you can see the different ways he has managed to prolong his own life
@@mycroft16 No, they did. In "the Five Doctors" his "reward" for saving the Doctor was a brand new regeneration cycle and, whether he got it or not, he got a new full set when he was resurrected in the Time War.
I'm done! never fail to make me emotional this episode and with the Day of the Doctor reveal, my theory is the time streams are out of sync so 11 doesn't remember or doesn't know the time lords granted him more lives, obviously the time lords must know about it in some way or form
@@ConnorEllisMusic Spoilers: I mean, they might have. We don't know whether they actually made him into the Timeless Child again or just gave him extra regenerations.
I wouldn't be surprised if all time lords were capable of regenerating endlessly still (the doctor too) and the limit was something put in their head. My headcanon here says that they didn't give the doctor a whole new regeneration cycle, they just removed the psychological block. this kind of also makes sense from a writing perspective if they want to stick other doctors that the doctor doesn't know about in the classic series, so long as the doctor doesn't know about them they don't have to count
I fell bad for the tenth Doctor because every other Doctor have their friends by their side when they regenerates but The tenth doctor is just all alone by himself saying goodbye to all of his friends
Well I do respect the sentiment you are going for, but other Doctors were alone too during regeneration. The 2nd Doctor regenerated after having his friends taken away, the 6th Doctor regenerated and was instantly taken prisoner and was without Mel for a day or two, the 7th Doctor regenerated in a hospital morgue after being shot, and the 12th Doctor regenerated alone on the TARDIS after Bill and Nardole said their goodbyes.
I didn’t cry at 11th’s regeneration, I wasn’t that keen on Matt Smith tbh (although having rewatched his era a couple of times since, I appreciate him more now); I loved Capaldi as an actor already so I was cheering during the regeneration lol Capaldi is the best ❤️❤️
Yeah, that's basically what my HC is for TCC (assuming The Doctor is TCC) TCC had endless, or nearly endless, regens when Tec was experimenting on them. Then when Tec unlocked the Secretes to make The Timelords and locked the Regens to 13 that she also did so with TCC. It's just that, for whatever reason, The Timelords keep on giving TCC/The Doctor more lives. So, if they didn't do what they did...then 11 would have been the last doctor.
There's one thing u never put into a trap, if ur smart, if u value ur continued existence, if u have any plans of seeing tomorrow there's one thing u never ever put in trap... Me!
Happy two years!! And I know for sure Megan knows Doctor who, because she wrote questions for the doctor who quiz! I will return with more comments after watching the video!
The latest seasons notwithstanding... When this happened I reasoned it this way: The Doctor had no regenerations left, and then he received energy from Gallifrey, giving him a new cycle, but this time an unlimited/unknown number. We've seen how regeneration energy can be given to others, and they gave him a massive amount... so much that the excess energy he was swatting Dalek's out of the sky, destroyed the Dalek mothership and hit the surrounding countryside like a hurricane. If the population of Gallifrey gave them just one regeneration each, that's billions of regenerations. They probably didn't do that much, but in the scope of the series he has an unlimited number of regenerations. Also people keep saying how fast this regeneration was.... this was one of the slowest in the history of Doctor Who... started on the clock tower and ended with Capaldi. The final transition was a flash, but it just took a while for the teapot to boil, so to speak. Big hugs to Megan... such a journey to get to this point. There are elements of each and every Doctor that make them your favorite. Looking forward for you fo fall in love with Capaldi's Doctor all over again :)
with timeless children my 2 ideas is like what you think. My other thought is that regeneration is more like a gas can capped off at 12 and the timelords here just increased the cap to 24.
Loved that reaction as per usual and can't wait until you dive deeper into Capaldi. Some of my favourite moments to come in the Capaldi era. Now this is confusing for me as you're about to start Capaldi, someone else is about to start Matts era and another channel is about to finish Series 12 so it's sometimes hard to get my head in the right channel 😂 Anyways looking forward to the Capaldi era so much - 40 Capaldi episodes coming up
'I'm gonna needs the cushion today aren't I guys?' Yes, you are... but not quite the way you think. It was quite a roller coaster to watch Megan at the end. 'Is he going to regenerate into Matt Smith, or is he going to regenerate into someone else?'... Yes! 'Makes me so happee!! :) That he's still here...' 'Oh no... this isn't good is it? 'No, Elliott, why'd you do this to me?' 'No, not the bow tie' ':O' Know that we all felt exactly what you felt. I hope you two stay safe until next time!

By this point, if I see Meg with the pillow in the thumbnail, I click 'cause I know I won't regret. :D
You do realise that when the big day comes you’re going to have to live stream it. Good luck to you both and be happy you are great together
**looking at the title** Well, here we go :'(
Eleven isn't my favourite doctor, but I will admit that I love and enjoy his era, so his regeneration scene still makes me cry a bit. It really doesn't help with other reaction who also crying, just to make it much sadder to me.
*Discussion bit about The Timeless Children (SPOILER! To anyone who haven't get there. Just skip this part)*
So there're a lot of confusion about Eleven's big regeneration with The Timeless Child explanation.
My favorite Doctor! Here we go!
@EMS Productions I totally agree with your theory! Basically the energy given to the Doctor in this episode, just _unlocks_ his infinite regenerations. A lot of energy was suppressed throughout the previous 12, hence why this one flattened a PLANET!
12:20 every time I see that old lady all I can think is .... Raquel!!!!
Fudge I've watched this episode being reacted to and the episode itself so many times and I never noticed! And now I am like "oh yeah!"
HAPPY 2 YEARS, guys!!!
I think The Timeless Children always implied that the Doctor was given a regeneration limit anyway.
Should also be noted that The Master has regenerated more than 12 times as well. Pretty sure the Time Lords didn't give him extra.
@@mycroft16 they did. He was dead before the time war. They ressurected him in order to fight in it. There is in fact a video all about the masters timeline on RUclips. Search for it and you can see the different ways he has managed to prolong his own life
@@DtrDisco Oh crap... you're right. Withdraw my previous statement. :D
---SPOILER ALERT---
We now know that the Time Lords never "gave The Doctor more lives"
@@ConnorEllisMusic Spoilers:
I mean, they might have. We don't know whether they actually made him into the Timeless Child again or just gave him extra regenerations.
Happy two years guys
Megan: "I recon Santa will be in it."
Everyone watching: "Welllll...not yet"
I love that the Doctor spends a lot of time on a planet other than Earth.
Megan was blushing during the bedroom scene lol
I can't wait, Capaldi is my favorite Doctor
There's a series of stuff in this episode, I feel.like as matt was leaving Moffat had to wrap all his plans up.
i can only imagine how Twice Upon A Time will go...
Don't feel alone, Capaldi is also my favorite doctor.
We all cried. Let it out Megan.
what do u mean we all cried it hasn’t happened yet
@@Legendary3Dgamer when watching the episode
Oh ok
@@Legendary3Dgamer when I watched it the first time. I'll watch megan cry and it will set me off again 😭
I didn’t cry at 11th’s regeneration, I wasn’t that keen on Matt Smith tbh (although having rewatched his era a couple of times since, I appreciate him more now); I loved Capaldi as an actor already so I was cheering during the regeneration lol
Capaldi is the best ❤️❤️
Happy two years😘
Yeah, that's basically what my HC is for TCC (assuming The Doctor is TCC)
TCC had endless, or nearly endless, regens when Tec was experimenting on them.
Me!
Say hello, hello to the best Doctor:)
Happy two years!!
And I know for sure Megan knows Doctor who, because she wrote questions for the doctor who quiz!
I will return with more comments after watching the video!
happy two years.
Capaldi and Tennant are my favorite Doctors!
with timeless children my 2 ideas is like what you think. My other thought is that regeneration is more like a gas can capped off at 12 and the timelords here just increased the cap to 24.
welcome capaldi, the best doctor! :D
Happy 2 years!
Megan was our spirit animal in the end
Loved that reaction as per usual and can't wait until you dive deeper into Capaldi. Some of my favourite moments to come in the Capaldi era.
Now this is confusing for me as you're about to start Capaldi, someone else is about to start Matts era and another channel is about to finish Series 12 so it's sometimes hard to get my head in the right channel 😂
Anyways looking forward to the Capaldi era so much - 40 Capaldi episodes coming up
Well that was just bad timing on my part, I edited and as it was saving you hearted but because I edited I lost the heart 😂😂
I’m broken as well Megan, I didn’t want 11 to leave 😭😭😭😭😭
Peter capaldi finds his doctor as the series goes on and ends up being one of the very best.. think for me it goes Matt Smith, capaldi, everyone else
:) That he's still here...'
'Oh no... this isn't good is it?
'No, Elliott, why'd you do this to me?'
'No, not the bow tie'
':O'
Know that we all felt exactly what you felt.
I hope you two stay safe until next time!
Crying crying crying crying
megan is a baby ❤
