I love the scene of Peter in the alley with the man. That's Elisabeth Sladen's husband. I miss her so much! RIP Elizabeth. ❤❤❤❤❤

Also Elizabeth Sladen's middle name was Clara and she passed around the time they were going to introduce Jenna Coleman... hard not to think Clara was named so as a nod to her

Actually, I don't blame Madame Vastra. She was trying to prove a point to Clara. Even though she saw the Doctor regenerate and change, She still couldn't except him, even though he looked different. I'm one of the very few who accepted Peter from the get go. 😁❤

Nice. Capaldi is my fave too. His Doctor has a proper character arc all through his tenure. He's a brilliant actor. No other Doctor delivers monologues quite as powerfully as him. 😁

I remember liking the Doctor's series 8 look, but now having all of Capaldi's era, the wilder curlier hair was a much better look

Remember Clara is a control freak, even over things she obviously can’t control ie when and where the Doctor regenerates and into what he looks like. Even though she knew he regenerated after being split into many versions through his time line it was still a shock and she’s not in control and she doesn’t like it. Vastra was calling out her judgement and if anything Clara was the rude one thinking the Doctor was wrong and needed fixing. By the end she just needed that reassurance from 11 that it was Ok and if anything it was 12 that needed her help and support. It was Moffatt’s way of calling out the judgement of cynics who were moaning about an older Doctor and whiny fan girls who were lamenting that the Doctor wasn’t what was classed as good looking ( which is rubbish as there are people who go weak at the knees at those eyebrows!!) Welcome to my Doctor!

I like the scene with matt because I feel he isn't just talking to Clara, but yet the audience too. people are never certain with the new doctor, so it's like he's laying a safe bridge to transition into this new doctor. and it also fits with 11's personality to reassure people and make them feel safe.

I love how Moffat and Capaldi make Twelve his own Doctor straight away. By dismissing the scarf and indirectly or directly licking salt into the wounds of Tom Baker fans and also making the Doctor dark and meaningful, as well as providing closure between Clara and Eleven with the brilliant phone call scene therefore allowing us to open a page onto a new era with Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor. Brilliant premiere, brilliant writing and as always carrying that signature dark tone that Moffat has cemented throughout his writing on the show. A brilliant and welcoming start to a new Doctor.

  • @CharlesDunkley
    @CharlesDunkley 4 года назад +5

There was a contingent of younger Nu-Who fans who'd only every known a younger looking Doctor, who were upset when Capaldi was cast. I took Eleven talking to Clara, explaining that Twelve was still him, still the Doctor, as Moffat talking to that young Nu-Who audience. Same goes for the scene between Madame Vastra and Clara in the chairs. At least that's how I've always viewed it.

  • @Spindler2007

Here's a fun fact. Madame Vastra's line "well, here we go again." near the beginning of the episode is a callback to what the Brigadier said when John Pertwee's Doctor was about to regenerate.

Question, did the Doctor push the half-face droid off the building? Could he do that? Or did he talk the droid into taking his own life? Both ways, same results, although there's something quite chilling of the thought of convincing someone to do it themselves. Then there's the look he gives afterwards. Again, chilling. This is not the same Doctor as before.
    Welcome back Megan!

That's up for us to decide - it wouldn't be the first time we've seen the Doctor talk someone into suicide and you're right, it is so much darker convincing someone to kill themselves than just doing the job yourself.

Capladi is my favourite Doctor of the new series and is second to Tom Baker of all the Doctors. Capaldi is a great mixture of the Classic series Doctors and the new series Doctors and portrays the alien aspect of the ancient Time Lord better than the other's in the new series.

Two things I love is (as mentioned previously) Elisabeth Sladens husband playing the homeless gent in the alleyway.
The second bit I love is that the bald mask the doctor wears as a disguise when he rescues Clara is actually a matt smith mask taken from a cast of his face the production team had. Nice touch.

It's very entertaining how Twelve post-regeneration went among other Doctor. "Door. Boring. Not me." **epic music playing while Twelve running toward a window & open it** "ME! :D" still got me to this day 😆
That phone calling scene between Eleven & Clara is very, very touching. I personally feels that scene is kinda an encouragement to accept every new Doctor, not only limited to Twelve only. I usually don't have any sort of problem when facing with new Doctor/companion and just see how it goes, but still find that scene heartwarming.
Megan reaction when saw Missy makes me smile. So excited to see when the time comes for who she is! ;)

Yeah on rewatches it does show were some extra fat needs trimming to make the episode leaner. Even so it all works and has a reason for being their instead of nonsense. Matt Smith making a cameo was good it rounded things off and gave Clara that final piece of mind she needed to see the Doctor. Even though Clara saw all the incarnations it's a different thing seeing a regeneration in person. Plus being their when he changed must be hard for her because it new to her. Smith also helped Capaldi out by helping the audience come to terms that he is older and still the Doctor. I feel the line "just see me" is directed towards the audience as well because the Doctor was young for so long. Solid episode and a great intro to the new Capaldi era.

Haven't seen one of your videos in a while, but this is good. Capaldi is my favorite doctor, I feel it usually takes a few episodes for a Doctor to find their footing, but having re-watched it as it were through this, Capaldi's Doctor shines through from episode one. Matt Smith's doctor is really great but Capaldi IMO is better. (but then I also have a high opinion of Colin Baker's Doctor which was a very similar doctor with a dark chip on both their shoulders).

And once again, welcome welcome, at least in dear darling Megan's case, to the Capaldi era, our very much big time loved new Mr and Mrs... ooooh, what surname is it I wonder, LOL LOL? And as I said, this is one which I promised I would be on for a very big reason, that being of course our dear Matt Smith Doctor's officially final ever scene, your reaction to it was as spot on perfect as could ever be, Megan our darling. But like I've said before, to me personally the Capaldi ain't the big cup o' tea for me as Christopher, David and Matt's are, so I won't be around very much for these episodes, except for special cases of my own made choices. That said, I hope you and your hopefully not too far away to be but as beautiful as the day you first laid eyes on her, I'm absolutely sure on that, future wife-to-be are still doing very well, Elliot my man, at least we can breathe a bit extra again now that more and more ease ups in lockdown are happening for us Brits, and hopefully, unless you've already seen 'em, might we be able to look forward to some reactions to the just as wonderful in themselves Sarah Jane Adventures and John Barrowman's great Doctor Who spin-off spotlight Torchwood from you both?

Capaldi has become my 2nd favorite Doctor over the years, but this episode always felt off to me. I don't think Clara should have reacted as badly as she did here to having a new Doctor. I think they tried make Clara's reaction here mirror Rose's reaction when Tennant just became the Doctor (also mirroring the audience's reaction to having a new Doctor), but its not the same situation. Rose had only known him as Eccleston, while Clara just spent time with 3 versions of Doctor, & had also just been in his time-stream. Clara should already know that a new Doctor will be different, but still the Doctor.

To be fair to Clara, this is the first regeneration she has had to deal with. Like many things, it's fine to know the "theory" (i.e. the Doctor can change body and persona) but quite another to experience it in practice.

This argument never works. Knowing someone changes isn't the same as experiencing a sudden change like that. Her problem isn't the shock of the fact that he changes his face and personality, it's how much he isn't the same man she got to know and love.
