John Hurt was so incredible actor, he was the Doctor for one and a half episodes, and he makes it feel like he is the most experienced Doctor.

Oh my, the dialogue in this episode is SO GOOD
For those of us who watched in the seventies, seeing Tom Baker and hearing him say the phrase, "if I were you," was magical.
I wish he'd offered a jelly baby....
Did you get that the Doctor marrying Queen Elizabeth I was a combination call-back/prequel to the end of 'The Shakespeare Code', where the Queen turns up furious with The Doctor, and he has no idea why?
I think it was also in End of Time Ten mentions it as well in the line that Good Queen Bess's nickname of The Virgin Queen is no longer accurate cause of him. River then also mentions it when listing off previous romantic partners The Doctor had had, and then the Queen Elizabeth from the Starwhale episode in Series 5 also makes a joke about it too, calling the Doctor a bad, bad boy for sleeping with Elizabeth I.
So it's an ongoing joke and indeed this episode is the reason why.
I missed the chance to see it in the cinema in the UK, but some friends of mine did, and said the audience went bonkers when they heard Tom Baker's voice.
I'm impressed by how completely they managed to firewall it. I didn't even hear a rumour that he'd be there.

Yeah, you're probably right. And I bet when Baker showed up, longtime fans screamed loud enough to shatter glass.
I watch this one whenever I need cheering up because of the humour among the drama. This is how you mess with an audience while remaining faithful to the heritage. Easily the best of the specials.
The curator at the end was the 4th Doctor, he's the oldest living actor who played the Doctor.

Tom Baker! Brought the house down when I saw it in the theatre 2 days after watching it live on BBC1 in London. A little thing called The 50th Anniversary Convention. Oh that jet lag....
I only spotted this myself the other day but The Doctor took Amy to Arcadia as mentioned in Vincent and The Doctor. Two mentions of Arcardia in two episodes with paintings.
Tom Baker will always be My Doctor, having watched this show since 1980. I went to my first con (Rosemont, IL) in 1982 where he was the featured name, and not only did I meet him, but kissed him on the cheek!!

True, but it had to be repeated the next week as the first transmission was overshadowed by news reports of the Assassination of J.F.K.

Oh you definitely missed the build up shows prior to the 50th including "The night of the Doctor " which would have put context onto this particular show!!

It fleshes out the War Doctor and, by brining in Paul McGann, also links New Who to Classic. And the old man at the end is not just any Doctor - it is the Fourth Doctor - probably the most popular Doctor ever, certainly out of the classic shows. He's the one with the scarf (and, growing up, he was MY Doctor)! Fingers crossed you react to the Christmas special soon!

When you think about it, freezing them in a painting isn't much better than just killing them. The victims wouldn't know the difference.

Do you have a list of the Doctor Who universe content in order? Seems like you might have missed The Night of the Doctor - it's short but it's a fairly big part of the set up to this episode

I am dissapointed and, honestly surprised that you didn't react to "The Night of the Doctor" minisode first, not for me but for the "noob" as it sets up this episode (if I remember correctly it aired the day before this episode) and explains so much about the John Hurt Doctor while filling in the blank between McGann and Eccleston.
I hope you will still react to it (or at least watch it) even if it lessons the impact somewhat being watched out of order. It's only around ten minutes long.

The Daleks *have innocent, easily shootable people* in front of them. They *give up their prey* because the Doctor is more dangerous than these easily shootable people and they have to finish him off first.
Also: "Which of you is the Doctor?"
Officially, in this situation, *the* most awkward question ask.
And notice The Moment’s words: if the Doctor destroys Gallifrey, he lives.
He saves Gallifrey… and is allowed to die and, at last, regenerate and move on.
If that was the 50th anniversary special, the 60th anniversary special should be completely insane

I highly recommend that you check out the 8th Doctor action figure adventure series by Batmanmarch. It’s fantastic. It shows what would’ve happened if the 8th Doctor fought in the Time War, which is what we all assumed.
The guy at the end is Tom Baker aka Doctor number 4.

Only The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) will remember because this event happens in his present while the other Doctors will not remember when they go back to their respective timestreams as they are from his past. This was a decent anniversary episode I saw this at the cinema in 2013 enjoyed it and loved it but there were some misoppotunities too I feel like I would had liked to have seen all The Classic Doctors actually appear rather than old footage I was also disappointed they didn't show The War Doctor's full regeneration all we got was Eccleston's eyes and chin instead of his full face and they also made the Zygons into a joke instead of a serious threat they could have had Omega or Sutekh the Destroyer as the main villain that would had been cool to see. John Hurt was fantastic as The War Doctor but I would had preferred The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) to be the one that pushes the red button that would had made more sense to me but apart from that it was a great episode as soon as I heard Tom Baker's voice that got me alittle emotional they should had alot more characters from the Classic Series.

I think you missed a bunch of episodes the next one after crimson horror is Nightmare in Silver, fallowed by The Name of the Doctor, then The mini episode The Night of the Doctor and The Last Day and then (the day of the doctor witch you watched) and then the episode called an adventure in space and time. then the Christmas special The Time of the Doctor. so you may have really messed up and missed all of those episodes. I hope you still watched them on Patron and you just didn't react

Brilliant episode of course, but on recent views some flaws appear for me. Seems more like an anniversary for modern who, and i find the 10th and 11th doctors take to the war doctor too easily with banter ect, they should take much longer to warm to him, not even want to look at him for a while, but they have fun banter almost right away
