- This is the one. This is the Mustang we've all been waiting for since Mustangs dominated Trans Am Racing 50 years ago. The 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R. The 5.2L 'Voodoo' V8 is the best sounding American engine ever, the chassis is balanced and playful, fun as hell, and most importantly, very, very fast. Put simply, this is the best Mustang ever made.

I think the GT350R is legit one of the only cars I could buy and be content with not modifying. It's perfect in every way imo.

I met a few of the designers at Ford nationals in PA, and you could literally feel in the air how excited and passionate they were about it. They did such an amazing job on this car.

According to recent podcast Matt tried to float the idea to drop Drive+ 's pay wall but that idea wasn't taken seriously. Supposedly we are getting a bunch of Drive free videos coming but I do NOT expect them to be of the same high quality as we are use to with RUclips paying for them as they know serious indepth car video production is just a loss of money

Matt, being a professional cyclist, and very avid car enthusiast, I must respect you and thank you greatly for your treatment of cyclists on the road. A lot of people fail to realize the amount of pain someone is in climbing a mountain like that, and having a car pass inches a way at an extra 70 mph makes it no easier...so thank you

The sound of the engine is kind of a mix between a old school muscle v8 and a Ferrari v8 :D
More like a cross between a muscle car and a Lamborghini V10 or V12 with 2 or 4 cylinders lopped off. it's got more of that low rumble.

"I'm convinced you could not replicate this in the aftermarket for the price of this car" THAT. That is exactly what has been keeping the die hards on the fence about the modern muscle cars. Yes they have phenomenal performance, but when you can build something that performs almost the same in a classic body and have it be unique to you, it's just obviously the better choice. Now that we have cars like the GT350 and 6th gen ZL1 that's not so anymore. Now you're getting so much perfomance for your money that you have to start weighing the difference between that classic style and the modern performance and ive got a feeling that modern performance is going to start winning more and more as we keep bringing out amazing cars like these

Dude if my build takes 2-3 years to get to this point because paint shops and engine shops don’t always turn around same day LOL, it’s just convenient to have a car you could buy and just pop out and enjoy whenever you can

Yeah, springtime in the California canyons means lots of big, wet bugs. The front of my car is covered in bug carcasses. I keep a bottle of spray wax and extra microfiber towels to keep the stuff off the paint.

Contrary to my name I am a Mopar guy and have owned a few chevys in my past and although I am biased towards Dodge this Ford Mustang GT350R is such a respectable car anyone that is truly a car enthusiast will see that. I would really enjoy driving this car some day but since the demand is so high for them now the probability of me getting my hands on one is highly unlikely

I typically don't like naturally aspirated engines but that motor is really something special. A high revving, inspiring, and a unique exhaust pitch to match a car that Ford really cares about and put a ton of work into really drives my love for that car.
This would be a great engine for the new Ford GT.

A buddy of mine has a new 2016 Mustang GT, I had it for a week while he was on vacation.. I have to say it was such pleasure to drive and I was amazed how much power it had and the handling was phenomenal.. poised but comfortable.. I could only imagine how this 350R would be... I am no stranger to Horsepower having a 500HP 300 SRT (Have 3 kids) so I need a sedan. While I love my SRT.. the Mustang was much more engaging.. Kudos to Ford.. for not only making the Mustang Look Great and also have true performance,,, Matt you have the best job ever..
Enjoyed spending the day at Sebring running with my pal Ramon and his new GT350. In a group including heavily modified 911 turbos, caymans, and GT3s, the Mustang keeps up and sounds great too. Great handling car and impressive that Ford built this special engine and then sorted out the handling dynamics and all the independent tweaks required to make this such a great sports car. It can compete with the best in the world, and hold its own special place as both a daily driver, and track day machine. And the new GT is coming too?!! Great job Ford engineers!

Love this car and I want to get it in my garage but I don't want to pay the crazy dealer markups on this. I wish when Ford advertises a car for a specific price....that it actually sells for that much.
Special it is. Hands down one of the best cars you can possibly buy from a dealer. It would be hard pressed to be able to build one in the aftermarket that replicates what this car can do.

I've driven this. You're right, this car and particularly the engine is very, very special. It's more special than the majority of cars near and exceeding its performance.

I can honesty say the Mustang has always been the car I've dreamed of since I was a kid. To see how the car is evolved but still in touch with it's routes, makes me appreciate the car more. I am definitely going to be a very proud owner of a GT350R!

Joe Tavarez The R because it has such huge potential off the lot. All the tuning shops who work with Mustangs I am sure already have 1000+hp kits just waiting to go, plus you could strip 400 lbs out of the interior and make a kind of 'RS' version.

Joe Tavarez true, there are better cars to start w but many come with paddles and are mid/rear engine. Front engine, high revving, NA V8 is its own flavor of driving. It will never act like a 570S and that is exactly why some will go for the stang Instead of the Brit or the german .

Got an F-Type R, rwd a couple of years back and have been really happy with it. This car was a very close second mainly due to the manual. Both have GREAT SOUND.
Oh man that Shelby 350r sounds so good. I'm not going to lie to you I'm not really feeling the new body styles but the Shelby's are slowly growing on me

this has to be my new favorite car, i love how they designed the car around the engine and put time into the engine instead of slapping a turbo or a supercharger on like most manufacturers do with their top of the line cars. This car is just special, i would take this car over a Hellcat or a z28 or a z06, or even an m3 or m4.
Lol explain, everything i said was true, the gt350r has its own engine a Hellcat or a z28 just come with a supercharged version of an engine that's pretty common, and the gt350r handles better than any one of those cars and those are Chevy and Dodge's "top of the line" muscle cars
No i haven't driven any of the cars but i didn't describe any kind of experience or anything make-up anything all i said was the facts, the gt350r has it's own engine and no other car has that same engine which makes it special and cool, the z27 and z06 and Hellcat all have engines that are pretty common but have a supercharger slapped on them, idk how many times you want me to say it?

So, Matt seems seriously and helplessly in love with this Mustang GT350/R, he can't conceal his excitement which speaks volumes. I've found Matt to be super tough in his judgement on American cars, (mostly too tough for my liking) with a bit of a bias (personal taste that is) towards german and japanese hardware as it seems. But now, seeing how Matt is enjoying and praising these Mustangs (even referencing the world beating mighty Viper ACR), they sure must be no less than absolutely phenomenal machines.
The answer to the question, "what would happen if you put two Honda VTEC engines together to make a v8... but then had Ford make it."

All the Australian Ford and Holden factories are closing down, so no more Falcon or Commodore. Ford decided to import the Mustang, but we won't get anything other than the regular Ecoboost and V8 GT because Ford says the GT350 and GT350R aren't 'right' for Australia. They obviously don't know Australia because they would sell like crazy here. Such a pity.

I love this car. It's a break away from where the performance car industry is going with their powertrains which is forced induction. I hope I can buy one in the future.

I think the Mustang is that perfect mix of American muscle and sporty euro car that we all wanted deep down. Look at the body lines, listen to the engine, so perfect, so amazing.

This is the updated BMW E92 M3. This is what BMW should have made the M4. I've never liked ford but they're coming with some good cars that even I can respect as a "hater" with the GT350R and the soon to be released Focus RS

+Vlad Pootin ok calm down now. The M4 will beat a gt350 on the track and if you wanna talk about the gt350R, then you need to compare it to the M4 GTS that's coming soon. Both are the track versions of each. Last time I checked, the M4 GTS has faster lap time than the GT350R around the Nurburgring which is THE pinnacle of race tracks.

I've been watching for a while, but this video has been one of the best so far. Great audio and video quality and there's something just pleasing about this one. Matt is a lot calmer in his narration these days, and the enthusiasm is great. These 'one-takes' mean a lot to the fans and the owners of the cars. Keep up the great work!

I don't mind that much as long as a manual is still offered but there was a comment on Reddit where people wanted a 10 speed auto GT350 and I threw up in my mouth a little bit. It just goes against what this car is supposed to be. The worst part is that it got a fair amount of upvotes.

But ford made me fall in love with this car
1. I like your Dillion sunglasses
2. I am an engineer for ford and I hand built these in Dearborn and flat rock assembly
3. I have a lot of extra parts such as 3 sets of wheels, 1 spoiler, 1 set left and right mag ride front assembly with breaks and calipers hub and all that. The parts are slightly used taken off of test vehicles but all less then 10k miles. If you or anyone is interested just respond to this comment.

I have a 2015 1LE and I frikken love this car. In fact, before I bought my Camaro this was THE car I wanted. Not the R, but the base GT350. Unfortunately it turned into too big of a hassle so I went with the 1LE instead.
This will be one of the most sought after cars in the future. The perfect naturally aspirated care under 100k by far.
