Thank you - I wanted to make sure I understood which loop is considered the “back loop” in HDC ribbing. You made that very clear! Just one question - it looked to me when you started the first row, you skipped 3 chains, not two - there is a small tightened chain next to the one on the hook that you didn’t count. I have seen this in some other videos as well. Don’t you count the first chain next to the one on the hook?
Thank you so much for your clear instructions and video. 😊. If it calls for 2 hdc in the back loop of a stitch do I assume you would just do this twice in that stitch? Thank you for your help. 😊
i think so: for the cardigan i’m making, each patch is 22 chains by 18 rows but since i’m doing a half double crochet, i really end up doing 24 chains and then i skip 2, so the 2 i skipped are just considered the turning chain so overall its still 22 chains
It will tell you what hook size is most suited for any yarn you buy on the label paper. :) just remember, the bigger the hook the bigger the stitches / project and the smaller the hook the smaller the stitches/project.
Its because the stitch, the hdc, is a “taller” stitch, so if you didnt do the chain two, it would pull down at the edges and be a bit shorter/less stretchy
just the beginning, pretty sure. they skip two chains in the beginning only, and for the rest of the rows they *add* two chains instead, so no need to skip anything after the first row for this pattern. its to make it taller, i think? i hope it helps !
im here bc im making a harry styles cardigan
A month later: I just finished mine it turned out great!! 😊

Easy to follow...learnt in two minutes... amazing
I have exactly the same!
Very clear instructions 👍
Thankyou for lovely instructions. Will be making a blanket.
how's it going with the blanket?

Do you still add one extra chain at the end, as in regular half double crochet?

Very nice video!
Excellent tutorial thanks. Can you please tell me the size hook you used? And the yarn weight? Thank you so much
Like the clear instructions I just wish I saw the movements a little slower cuz that's what's getting me confused
So if I need to chain eleven, should I add two more so that I can skip them ?

this is the way that I make an afghan, it is gently stretchy up and down very comfortable
Do you skip two chains throughout or just in those first two initial stitches?
What size hook are you using? 🙂
Me facina!! Facilita.
Are you doing your bl in the same stitch of 2 chains to turn ?
How do you change colors with this stich? x
Can I use a stack double crochet
Hi hun can I do this from front off my crochet blank pls n thk u u r a great teacher I’m a beginner but love to learn thks so much
I’m trying to do a baby blanket
Thank you for this
does it matter what thickness of hook u use? cuz im so confused with the difference in sizes

HELPPP! When you start with the back loop do you skip first 2 stiches like you did the first row?
Why do you leave two chains on the foundation chain when turning and then why do you do 2 chains in the end before turning ?
Its because the stitch, the hdc, is a “taller” stitch, so if you didnt do the chain two, it would pull down at the edges and be a bit shorter/less stretchy
I am making a blanket with that stitch and Lion Brand Homespun yarn. How do I add a simple border to that?
I’m dumb apparently everyone gets it and here I am still lost lol 😂
Do we skip the first two chains every row or just in the beggir
Beginning *
Every row I believe
I don’t think you skip two chains each but you do chain two at the end of each row
just the beginning
just the beginning, pretty sure. they skip two chains in the beginning only, and for the rest of the rows they *add* two chains instead, so no need to skip anything after the first row for this pattern. its to make it taller, i think? i hope it helps !
For some reason there keeps appearing holes in my edges even though i do everything right?
What size hook?
What is the hook size?
where is the third loop? i can only see 2
Can you do it slowly 😔 I can’t keep up with how you twist and pull the yarn
put the video playback in 0.75x or 0.5x speed!
i forgot that you skip *2* stitches in hdc...

Que hace la chica? No logro ver .
Repite lo que ya hizo en todas las cadenas un HDC (half double crochet), que muestra cómo hacer en 1:37

If you want to see what she doing but she’s going really fast but the video in the slowest motion
