I am a long time crocheter. I wanted to tell you thank you for showing the hook placement for an normal stitch and then what and where the front and back loops are. It's very helpful for new crocheters to see this.
i cant tell you how many times i've referenced this video over the years. i never remember if i want single crochet or slip stitch and this always helps me
Thank you so much! I've been crocheting for 50 years and never needed this until now. Hate knitting but can do it pretty well. This helps our 100% with my project and keeps me from flopping around all over the place trying to find a 9" circular needle.
A suggestion for anyone who has difficulty with that first stitch after turning.. when you come to the end of the row, chain one and BEFORE you turn you work put your hook in that 1st stitch turn and complete stitch. So much easier than realizing many rows later your work has become one stitch narrower.
You Star! Thank you so much. I have watched so many videos on this stitch. This is the best and easiest video I have seen on how to do it. Nice music in the background (not too loud) and your voice is so calm. You have just helped me to make a decision on a pattern with this stitch so thank you again. 😊
You are amazing I got sick and tired of seeing other videos with nice designs but not able to explain the stitch or you can barely see what they are doing. Thanks so much again!
I’m here to learn ribbing for Harry styles sweaters 🥰🥰🥰😘😘 this is the best ribbing tutorials ever... i went haywire watching videos from others... thank you sooooo muchhhhh ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you so much, this tutorial was perfect! I figured it out on some samples and am super excited to try it out on a bigger project. If anyone is struggling with the slip stitch one being too tight, I found it helped to up the hook size and try to keep the stitches really loose :)
Thank you so much This video is really helpful :) I think the SL ribbing has the nicest look and I like that it is stretchy, but it takes the longest to make (at least for me).
Thank you so much. I have been trying to do a slip stitch hat brim and struggling with where the back loop is. Your tutorial perfectly explains how to do it. Now I can finally crochet my beanies I have promised to family.
*EXCELLENT TUTORIAL 💝💝💝! THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH 😊💝!* I DON'T KNOW WHY I GET SO CONFUSED ON MY RIBBING'S AFTER CROCHETING SO MANY DIFFERENT BEANIES BUT YOU SAVE ME WITH YOUR AWESOME TUTORIALS EVERYTIME 😊💝! MAYBE IT IS MY AGE, LOL 😁🙈😁!
I've watched you do the very 1st row several times & it sure looks like you are going through 2 stitches as if you were doing the row after the foundation. I only have one look to go through for that 1st row slip stitch. I've even enlarged my screen. I finally learned to crochet last Jan but haven't gotten very far....still can't get the start of a hat. A friend is coming over tomorrow to help. I'm determined to get this!! :D
i started crocheting barely a year ago and i decided to make my friend a sweater because they've been so patient and nice to me. this tutorial helped me so much, now i know how to make the cuffs and the neck. wish me luck :]]
LOL, you know, I'm just a klutz. Everytime I start recording, all of a sudden, I can't crochet or knit properly and speak properly. The hook is very comfortable and light. I use it all the time. My set up for videos usually causes me to fumble.... and this is a handmade hook (see link in description box). It's not a furls hook. I actually don't own any of those so I can't say if they are good or not.
I wish all videos are like this stratight-forward and simple not a lot of garbage self-talk. I also like that you show how one might do it incorrectly and the correct way, showing the contract is helpful.
Thank you for this! I think the slip stitch ribbing looks perfect for my project. How would you join a ribbing like this to the bottom of a top-down crocheted toque with an oversized crown, to retain all its stretch but still pull it in?
This is single crochet rubbing but it’s the same idea with sl st How to Add Ribbing to your Crochet Project EASY Tutorial ruclips.net/video/zSa40OQ7uN8/видео.html
I love the look of the slip stitch the best but it is too stretchy. I found it hard to tell how long to make my ribbing. I think I will stick with hdc. 😁
Hey Vanessa! Thanks for this, I love the slip stitch but I found it challenging I guess it's the thick chunky yarn??? I have to opt for the 2nd option... it's also good
You can do it! Try your best to crochet loose especially with the slip stitches. You can also try to go up hook sizes. Keep trying! I love slip stitch ribbing!
I do the single crochet ribbing but it turns out not as stretch as yours. Mine istoo stiff, I already used bigger hook to create 'airy' stitch. Do you have any advise for me? Thanks, I really like your video
It’s hard to tell people to loosen their tension when they’re so used to crocheting that way. When you pull up your first loop, try pulling it up taller than you normally would
GIve it a try. Here's a link to my Ravelry listing www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/big-heart-slouch-beanie Also, here are other crochet beanies: www.ravelry.com/bundles/crochet-beanies-15 xoxo
it's hard to say because it depends on your tension and these ribbings have different stretch. The rule of thumb i use is SL ST: 3 sts for every 4 rows of ribbing SC ST: 1st for every row HDC: 3 sts for every 2 rows.
Sorry to say this...but ALL the videos I’ve seen are with huge hooks and thick yarn ...I’m using 3 acrylic yarn with a 4 hook and I’m finding the first method Reeeeeally difficult....I understand why you make the video so we can see what you’re doing but the slip ribbing is really difficult with finer yarn?...or maybe it’s Meee who’s the problem? I’m going to stick to the 2 method. But thankyou❤ for the helpful video...I’m making a cardigan and it’s given me help on choosing ribbing...I’m a newbie 😂🎉
No worries. I choose large yarn and hooks because it’s easier to see on the video. I can definitely make another video using lighter weight yarn! The key is to crochet loosely for the sl st ribbing
Kind of unrelated to the main idea of the video, but I've never seen a hook like this one! It's very interesting and I was wondering where I could get one.
I haven't even watched the video yet but the fact that you have those three laid out right next to each other is so helpful!
☺️
I agree 100% !!
It was so helpful to see the relative stretchiness of each stitch.
I agree.
Agreed, I want mine fairly stretchy
I am a long time crocheter. I wanted to tell you thank you for showing the hook placement for an normal stitch and then what and where the front and back loops are. It's very helpful for new crocheters to see this.
Awe that’s so sweet and I’m so thankful whenever I can help anyone. Thank you for the kind words. 🥰🥰🥰
The slip stitch has that perfect knit look! Thank you! Another way you can avoid every second row having a "wrong" side, is look up "camel stitch".
I'm not familiar with the "camel stitch." I will be looking for a video. Thanks for the tip.
How would I attach to a machine stitched hat and make a slip stitch brim as I go after removing from machine?

Someone else doing the Harry Styles cardigan?

ahh thank you!!
I really like the slip stitch one.
Same
I really liked it too but then when I made it, it was a bit too thick for my liking so I opted for the single crochet one :)
Mme too.
Yes me too, but for thin yarn I made the single crochet rib cause it would take ages for me to do slips one
same!

Awe. I’m so glad the Haywire madness has stopped (I hope?) 😂
I love the look of ribbing and its essential to a nice winter hat, BUT it is usually the most time consuming part of the project!
I just realized that I was slip sticking the wrong way! thanks to be so clear on where we have to place our crochet in order to do it well.
You’re welcome!
Thanks, you did a great job with teaching these stitches. I've found that the slip or single stitch make the best rubbing for hats. 🧶👍🏼🥰💕
Thank you. It was good to see the different ways of creating a rib, very clearly. Brilliant.
Thank you so much, this tutorial was perfect! I figured it out on some samples and am super excited to try it out on a bigger project. If anyone is struggling with the slip stitch one being too tight, I found it helped to up the hook size and try to keep the stitches really loose :)
Lion Brand Landscapes Breeze. There’s info and links in the description of the video 😁
best explanation of how to find the correct stitches I’ve ever seen
Thank you so much for the kind compliment! I’m so glad that you found the explanation easy to follow! 🥰
I've wanted to add ribbing onto my clothing projects and this helped so much! Thank you
Welcome! 🥰
Thank you for your description on how to do ribbing in crochet. Have a great week
Welcome!
This is SO HELPFUL!! I was trying to see what was the most elastic without having to work up a sample. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much This video is really helpful :) I think the SL ribbing has the nicest look and I like that it is stretchy, but it takes the longest to make (at least for me).

Love all the different stiches!
that hook is probably the coolest hook i’ve ever seen
🥰
The slip stitch ribbing is so beautiful yet so tedious. I want to make a whole sweater in this one 😂
I know right?!? It takes too long! 😩
I enjoyed watching the video. Nice to see them together to understand more as I'm a new beginning of the stitching. Thanks for the tutorial 👍🥰❤️

I started around the brim after I worked the brim
