No word on how much work they put into creating the orchestral library that shipped with every version of reason? That library alone was a complete game changer at the time and so far beyond any other DAW available. Let alone the amazing factory library 😻

I’ve used Reason since version 4 and let me tell you, it was seriously *helpful* when they added audio track support so that I could stop using a separate DAW for that 😂 Reason has come SO far since then-it’s truly amazing now. So many incredible features. The vocal pitch editor is so freaking good.

He briefly mentioned Reason Rack for sure. The only other DAW company I think it'd make sense to do that would be Bitwig -- "A Bitwig Rack VST" - so long as it could work as a plugin host within a host. (Though I'm not sure if VST's or AU's even have that capability?)

I was going down the path of buying (spending a lot of money) on hardware synths, step sequencers and drum machines. A friend of mine gave me a random disk with the words Reason 1.0 on it.
Went home, CD data disk sat on my desk for a few days, on a whim put the disk in the CD rom drive, Installed Reason 1.0, After a few minutes my world view of making music was completely changed. I then stopped buying any hardware synths only keeping one drum machine and my korg triton which was a beast back in the day.

Great memories. I'm sooo glad I lived thru all this. Used Rebirth back in the day and damn the looks of the first Reason release. I could feel the first love flowing back. The simplicity was both awesome and also gave a "boxed" feeling. As you couldn't connect anything external. We were soooo creative to get audio into reason with samples and creative ways. Reason 5 was deffo boost in users (I wonder why, lol), but when they released Record I was blown away again just like Reason 1 back in the day. Midi devices, VST's and now VST3, It was and still is my nr. 1 DAW and I've worked with almost every DAW there is, they are all good tho, what ever suits your needs. Love these memories.

If you know how to use n hook up analog machines, it all works exactly same for most part, it takes “emulation” to ultimate level, and i mean that as compliment, for me as someone who learned on analog first, it always made more sense to me than other daws, cause i can just plug things in and rout them just like i would if i had that “physical” synth, or reverb, or sampler, same with mixer, channel flow and strip work just like real mixer where your input plugs in at top, and signal comes down strip to fader, its incredible daw imo, kong ALONE is pretty much an mpc IN the daw, n thats only 1 machine of like 100 lol

I was about 15 when I tried Reason and had 0 experience with DAWs so felt overwhelmed and didn't try it again (used, Cakewalk, Cubase, FL, Kristal, Logic and now Presonus Studio One). I can't make a judgment on how Reason is now but I used to work at a lunch place near the Propellerhead offices in Stockholm so I met a lot of the staff. They are super chill and down to earth so if that spills over into their products and workplace environment I don't have anything but praise for them.

Thank you for this. The reason why I choose Reason is because I grew up with Rebirth & Reason 3. It was before proper vsts, and these music programs were like video games. They looked liked, acted like, the real thing. Automation is just pressing record and messing with the knobs and buttons. Fruity Loops was for PC, while Reason was for Mac; that alone was a huge market choice. Reason is just getting better and better. As FL is straight forward and I made music in it, it's just not my thing. Reason is drag and drop, and pleasing on the eyes. Logically, it's a skeuomorphic view on music creation. FL lacks that.
    Next you should do Bitwig.

If reason didn’t have such an awkward sequencer, It would be tied with ableton as #1. Ableton is like the most software looking program, and reason is the most hardware looking. Everything else is sort of in the middle imo. I still do turn to it for every project as a plug in, and love using the daw for the nuances of using Rex filed and Dr Rex. It seems that propellerhead has never failed in your video, personnaly I would be more nuanced as a Reason long time user. Rack Extension was a part of the problem because the company was stubborn to have a closed environment and not accepting VST3. That business model was a failure, and lots of users were upset about that and moved to Ableton Live (or other...). Reason come back from the deads the day they start to make the Rack available for every DAW, because they stopped the lethal autarky. It was the beginning of wake up call, and VST3 integration is the sign that they admitted and learned from their mistakes, but they are not definitely saved, because we are all multi DAW and we know what Reason still can't do for the moment.

What's the point of mentioning something like the release of DrOctoRex (just an update), but not a word about DrRex which was there since almost the beginning . Mentioning Complex-1 and Algorytm which are not even included and sold separately, but not mentioning the fact that Reason didn't have any plugins all before 2012 and got their own format of plugins and a shop that year. And the introduction of VST only in version 10 couple of years ago.

Holy shit if these comments are not paid. Company has gotten so greedy, they dont want to support their older customers because of the money grabbing scheme their pulling off. I hope these people sleep well. And they will. Also, me, changing daw forever.

So i have used reason since v1. These days I vomit at even the thought of using reason as a standalone DAW. It's ok for simple arrangments but any thing larger and its a nightmare to use. I rarely use it these days and when I do its always as a plugin in other DAWs. To me this company and this DAW died many years ago and its just a slow burn now. Its so far behind modern DAW interms of workflow and features that they will never catch up.

Good video. Reason went downhill the moment Propellerhead became Reasonstudios.

I was a Reasons user, but even with this recent spring break sale
Reasons is not worth the price compared to the other daws that are currently on the market reasons needs a major upgrade 😢

I've never heard someone call Reason user-friendly and then say FL isn't user-friendly. When I first opened FL I thought it looked just like Photoshop (and most millennials know photoshop from their myspace days) so it's pretty understandable for a beginner imo. Reason, on the other hand, confuses the hell out of me. Unless you already work with hardware synths it's just a confusing mess.

Oh okay, then I'll say it! In my opinion Reason is very user friendly and FL studio is not. I have long praised from the proverbial rooftops Reasons openness to letting the user choose their own order of operations in composition and sound design.

@@JackUFN If you don't mind me asking, what's your experience before using it? Did you already know how to make music, and dd you make any other digital content before using Reason? Genuinely curious, I'm not trying to start shit, scouts honor.

@@xSaintxSmithx i believe my first was version 11, but im coming from a non-music background. when i downloaded reason for this vid, i can see from a person who has come from no experience their workflow might be a lot different, but i'd not say bad

Maybe. I’m not ready to buy simple version for millions and then pay for add-ons for life. Nah, I pass…
