Oh, wow, I make an appearance @ 9:03 ! Glad to see these types of videos covering LMMS! It's a program which still lacks a lot of stuff, but the entire community uses it with a sort of passion which is difficult to find anywhere else, it truly is something! Stop by the server anytime, we're always open-armed towards new members! :)
9:04 Yooooo, I'm famous! Good video. Developing LMMS has been a ton of fun (and suffering). I'm always hunting down feature requests for new things to add, so I'd be happy to hear any suggestions you may have. Note for 9:15, I later discovered only the display of the Equalizer is bugged (for the lowpass and highpass filters specifically), and the effect itself is just fine. Certainly a relief, because that means the bug can be fixed without breaking backwards compatibility, and nobody has to feel guilty about diminishing the potential quality of everybody's songs, haha.
I never thought that I would see someone making a history video about LMMS, and I'm kinda surprised that I appeared in the video (I was one of the people talking on the discord while the screen was blurred). It is a very nice program and I want to invite you guys to try it out, the discord community is always open to help!
LMMS is grossly underrated as a DAW. I've been using it for years and i doubt I'll ever buy a fancy DAW like FL simply because LMMS has everything I need
@@TheTGComplexyeah like it's more difficult to use but I'm not paying hundreds of dollars, and if I'm being honest it's just hard to pirate proper daws
@@SpawnIsSleepy pirating daws is easy as shit man, but there is really no need when you can have reaper for a negligible amount of money which is pretty much on par with big commercial daws
This is awesome! I'm going to recommend this to a friend of mine. She wants to do music but is very poor, she sees my music (now 9 albums available, all recorded on my computer for next to nothing) and wants to study music. I told her she can teach herself like I did.
i also think it's a shame there isn't a lot of historical information publicly available about most audio software. not just DAWs, but also VST plugins, where you can't even find out what day they were released, like we're still in medieval times, where no one kept track of things yet
I swear! LMMS is seriously underrated! I'm a huge fan of 90's music. I really wanted a DAW which was dedicated to the 90's music. Then I found this. More over, it looks like FL Studio's elder brother, which made me easy to get used LMMS. If LMMS didnt exist, then, you know...
Surprised no mention of ZynAddSubFX as an included VST at some point. Because that thing can get into beast-mode of sound design if you ever consider going there. (Some aspects are confusing, but it does quite a lot of clever FM synth stuff with modulation upon modulation and layering sounds.)
I just downloaded some very old versions of the app, the source code, from the 2000s. The new features of each release are there, in the Changelog file. That's the file that contains all the "changes" from the previous version, and it's a standard practice on open source code.
I used to use this when I started out and wanted a fruity loops esque experience for my MacBook (FL was windows exclusive back then.) Even though I saved and have been using fruity loops for a few years now, I still have the mixer / channel rack / playlist arranged the same way as stock lmms and I like to go back and mess with lmms itself when I'm feeling nostalgic. great video :~)
I was able to give away all my Akai stuff because I believe LMMS is the easiest to use. I donated the proceeds from my Akai equipment on the platform. Since then, my conscience is clear again.....thx for the vid!
this has the second best piano rofl only behind FL studio, imo, it feels rely nice to use. compared to FL, i like that you have both normal midi items (like reaper nad most daws) AND 'patterns' (like FL) allowing you to choose whatever option fits your needs more. i personally find it a little annoying in FL that EVERYTHING needs to be a pattern. also has one very cool usability feature - rolling mouse wheel over notes in reusable pattern/drum editor changes velocity of the note. it's such a nice and intuitive feature i was surprised when i launched FL studio for the first time and found out it's NOT there xDDD
The community i great, we have competitions, community youtube channels and like you showed: the communication inside the community is great! Im using it since 15 years or more but im sure this is still a lie because i cant really remember, could even be 17 years. Shoutout to my boys at #lmmsopus
Actually I was using it in 2004 on my dads pc: the layout didn't change that much, as did it's comunity😢 The easiest way to creator a shitstorm in the LMMS forum is to ask: "When does audio recording come?" To be honest: never! Though I have to say it's synth are lonely trashy😂 PS. For oder versions/how they look you can use the wayback machine...
It is on the list, someone had mentioned it a while back to me. I would like to get done every major DAW out there at some point, but some other topics do interest me as well but ardour will be worked on :)
Comment below any suggestions you have for future content, they are always welcome,
How about the history of Ardour or Mixcraft?
@@jackgolden5006 Or both.
_hmmm...I don't expect to hear anything about MusiGenesis since that DAW was quite simple_
It really is like looking at the FL Studio that developed in a parallel universe, isn't it?

its the simple fact that you can do everything in this daw just not in common ways.

I love this DAW♥♥♥ I thankful deep inside my heart for everyone who contribute to develop such a amazing DAW. For free🥺🥺♥♥💪💪
Do one on Ardour as well! If we're talking libre daws, Ardour is by gar the biggest and most popular
Been thinking if you might ever wanted to make a video about Ardour
Yeah history of Ardour would be interesting

That's very true - I hadn't thought about that. Maybe they come and go too quickly nowadays for anyone to be able to keep up?

Literally heard about this on the HMD pod and this popped up 😂
This is so cool! I wish I had known sooner that there was a free DAW for linux that includes game boy and NES sounds.
