    I’m an old Reason user. I’ve used many DAWs. but I still go back to Reason. The paradigm of connecting/disconnecting virtual gear is really satisfying to me. I’m not having to guess what is connected to what. Just follow the cables.

      Really loved it, was extreme deep into it for several years.
      I would recommend it for every beginner, cause it is cheap, has everything you need, easy to use, and you get very fast results.
      But reason clearly sound better on the Audio Engine and it´s devices.

    I've been a Reason user since vers. 2.5 (for more than 23 years now) and too many musicians simply are unaware of how insane Reason is. I'm guessing that if you see the amount of stuff you get for the price, you might think that 'well, half of it is probably rubbish then' and the opposite is the truth - these instruments and effects are among the finest there is.

    I still love the old versions of Reason, a lot simpler and with that awesome 3D look! I’m on Reason 6.5 and Recycle, and the fun is just endless. I also Rewire it into Live9 every now and then.
    The one thing I’m really missing is Rebirth, which I began using around ‘98. I wish it was still available even if only for the iPad.

    That spreadsheet comment is 100% accurate. DAWs are pretty much the same at this point and they all come with enough tools to keep most people busy for years. What matters is their individual workflows, QOL options, and aesthetics. I prefer Reason's virtual rack because I feel like I'm working with real equipment. rather than a piece of software.

    Gotta love the way Reason plays nicely with other DAWs...that's been my experienced across several. I can pull up a Reason rack in Studio One and hardly touch the CPU. Now, I have seamless access to Reason Rack. That's big. So, big I just stocked up on more Reason synths, which I love! Of course, the mixer(s) in Reason to do it all in there and pull my other VSTs in is always there. Quality. Flexibility. +1

Reason pulled me out of a three year writing block sometime ago and whilst I still spend some time in trusty cubase, ableton, and logic but when I want to have fun, and just write something for the hell of it. The combinator is an amazing tool. One fun thing that I’ve done with it is to take several instances of a mono synth I like the sound of and then use Blamsoft's Distributor (paid extension - $9) to turn it into a polysynth. Each mono can be configured slightly differently so every note will have some variation that is repeatable, not necessarily random.
      It can also act as an effects chain that you can build and drop in wherever you need it. Such a versatile tool, especially now that they've opened it up and made it customizable with more controls.

      @jeremysharp4218 8 месяцев назад

      @@somuchfortalent But can you use Reason's sequencer to control Logic in the same way that you used to be able to with Rewire?
      I prefer Reason's sequencer and the virtual rack and virtual CV signals for suuper fine tuning of certain values that often aren't possible through other means. I love that Reason supports VST now, but none of my Reason rewired with Ableton projects will work with the last couple of versions of Reason. Rewire was awesome, and everything had it, so it's a damn shame it's been abandoned. I used to use Ableton as my mixing console for Reason, but now I'm not sure how, or if I can still do that. I also used Ableton for mixing bounced files instead of Reason due to my Reason files growing to multiple gigs* for complex projects, which wasn't an issue for Ableton (*saving copies as I progressed, I practically needed a HD for each project x_x ).

    I produced "Club 80 - In the dark" with Reason. Have been using it since 2015. When I have guest in the studio, they tell me how quick and easy the editing and tuning vocals can be. Not sure how I got here but Reason was my first introduction into beat making. One of my friends had an uncle that was into edm or whatever and had this disc that said “propellerhead reason 3” but we were into hiphop and tried to make due with this copy of reason we had. We were loading samples into redrum, not really knowing what we were doing, making some absolute bullshit. I didn’t really figure it out until I got my hands on recycle and used drrex like an mpc. The last time I remeber using reason, long was barely being introduced and I remember being upset they replaced drrex with octorex. I used it as a rack from time to time with rewire.
    Reason will always be good in my book but it’s definitely a program that nobody ever talks about.

    Love Reason but I don't like the decisions this company has been making. There is 0% chance I'll be renting my software, and it's a bit of a sucker punch for RS to favor the renters over the buyers with the extra goodies. Many of the buyers have been around since the early versions. Don't leave them out just to favor the renters.

    • @somuchfortalent
      @somuchfortalent Год назад +1

      What are you talking about? The subscription is for the monthly sound packs. The perk to subbing is that if you don't own a specific device, you can still use the sound pack because they give you access to everything. If you want the sound packs, buy them. Don't complain that they're not giving them away for free when people put their time into making them.

    • @_P_M_
      @_P_M_ Год назад

      The subscription is for the DAW plus devices NOT included in a perpetual license. The perk is access to to everything and WEEKLY sound packs for subs. Renters can cancel any time and are not invested in the software. Buyers ARE invested in the software and get less for their money than renters. @@somuchfortalent

    • @ontheruntonowhere
      @ontheruntonowhere 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@somuchfortalent That's not accurate, the OP has it right. I don't blame RS for a sound business decision - I'm sure it's good for their bottom line - but it is annoying that upgrading no longer gets you the latest instruments, players and effects. They throw in a couple, but you have to buy most separately, whereas a Plus sub gets you everything, including the Sound Packs. I didn't mind waiting for a new version to get the new gear, but it's not as worth it for me to upgrade anymore.

    • @davidcache
      @davidcache Год назад

      @@jbrassic5434 Could be that I've been spoiled with other DAW's, maybe reason isnt far behind and other DAW's are just far ahead? either way, Propellerhead isn't fighting fire with fire right now. I've made career changing music with Propellerhead software, I've been around since rebirth. What's always compelled me about reason is that since it was self-contained, I could come back to my projects 5 years later and theyd still be there, waiting, working... then reason 8 i think it was.. with record. they added, then lost the line 6 amp plugins, projects started breaking, then came vst support. now vender updates are a gamble... I mean these are things I need to manage in other DAW"s but what I loved about reason was precisely that I didn't have to. I used what was built in and I was happy with that..
      I think their doing too much now a days, and none of it to an efficiency thats better than whats on offer in other DAW's. Reaper is small and fast, logic has industry leading song writing assistance, like virtual drummers... Live treats Audio files like you would an instrument.. they all do something thats top of their class. reaper... what is it good for?
      Old versions of reaper, the routing was novel, i could use the vocoder to break my signal down by the band and program the combinator to trigger things on and off.. and yeah you could do that now, but reason isnt taking advantage of the advanced routing, their focus seems to be in partnering up with venders and piecemealing plugins and additions to their software. Also, pushing a subscription service... I think their shooting themselves in the foot. They were in a place of their own, and because of that they were the best at doing what they do, but now... theyve put themselves in the same place as everyone else.. and they simply cant compete with what other DAW's are doing right now...
