In 2016, after dreaming for years of owning enough land to live a more simple and sustainable, self sufficient lifestyle, we acquired 18 Acres & began the journey of building our future homestead! Our land is quite far from where we currently reside which limits our trips to the property to once a month or so. For the time being we post new videos (or at least try, lol) once a month with updates on how things are moving forward, our pits and peaks as well as sharing all the priceless info we’ve learned from the amazing channels we subscribe to here on RUclips. I usually am NOT a fan of videos where the work is already completed and the person is attempting to explain what he or she did, HOWEVER, I have to say your video is, by far, the best "explanation after the work is completed" video I have ever seen in all my many, many years watching and trying to learn on RUclips. I understand now, EXACTLY, how I will be plumbing my tiny cabin/house after watching this video. You are the FREAKING MAN, for real, for real! Thanks a million for this one!
Keoni, thanks so much for the message and kind words, greatly appreciated... especially after a rough day of work off grid!! I'm glad the DWV video was helpful & wish you all the best on your build. Thanks again & have a great weekend!
That hot cold lines plumber loves those 45, i wonder how is the water flow with all those 45
Clean and nice work. Some ideas...They make a spacer for the toilet flange so you can set it to the floor height and install prior to finish floor. "Tile buddy". That LVL have screws or bolts? Seal up the holes. no cheapo fan for bathroom. I would run the vent in kitchen to near the top of roof. Perfect place for ice dam and if a metal roof could tear it off with ice or snow. cleanout near exit point.
Good job! Plumbing for 51 years and a code inspector for 32, you got the green.
Thanks Bart!! Thumbs up doesn't exactly come around often here on RUclips so I greatly appreciate it!! Hope you have a great week and thanks again for checking out the channel!
Too bad the washer is gonna back up into the laundry sink
Give yourself a pat on your back...EXCELLENT VIDEO!!
Thanks Tommy, that means a lot!! Appreciate you checking out the channel/video, hope you have a great week!!
One of the best video explaining rough in plumbing 👍
Thanks very much, greatly appreciated!
Well done, good clear explanation of how the system functions. While a pain filming I’m sure, it certainly was helpful to see the above and below level views.
Thanks Bob, very much appreciated!
You really good at describing in detail with simple English. And You are right ! There's plenty of videos out there that one can see , but your is ones anyone can actually learn from. thank you my guy.
Thanks Jose, greatly appreciated!! Hope you have a great weekend & thanks for checking out the channel!
your video is VERY GOOD . your worlk VERY GOOD . I love to do plumbing . and I thank God for who invented the pvc lol . I download your video . Thank you so much for this video
Thanks Lannes, much appreciated!
Talking like an amateur and working like a pro
I learned something
Thanks
Loved this, thanks!!
Nice crawlspace, sweep up that concrete and you can roll around with a shop creeper for doing any maintenance. Wish I could do mine that way. Oh, never mind, looks like you are standing upright in there.
Great video I’m glad it popped up.
I’m getting ready to plumb a bathroom in a tiny house / hunting cabin next spring. I didn’t know about glue for cold temps. Central Montana gets really cold.
You really clarified a lot for me.
Thanks
Thanks Tod, I'm glad the video helped out a bit. Here's to lots of success with your build as well as the hunt 😃. Thanks for checking out the channel/video, much appreciated!!
Nice work! I the future when plumbing a crawl space no need to drill thru the joists for the pressure lines.
Let’s say, you wanted to relocate a kitchen sink from closer to the bathroom plumbing to where you have the sink now.
How would you get the sink drain line to the main drain
(I hope I’m using the right terms)
I think the drain line would be about 8’ from the wall where the sink is going to be
Just cut, and insert a combo wye w/long sweep? Haven’t been able to find any videos that show how to tap into the main drain
Been doing this for 40 years, and yes I have my C36
You really good plumbing
Thanks so much I am going to be installing two bathrooms in a basement . Drain will go to up flush basin and out to the septic tank. 👍
You have good odea to keep water supplied home uncomplicated. Peace & Love 💕
Avoid bug speckling automatic dishwasher, aquarium, and trash compactor ; but only if roach bug specks displease you. Peace & Love 💕
The inspector made us insulate all red Pex whether in the crawl space or in the wall. Also would not all a horizontal line like he did in the kitchen. Also had to put clean outs on all drains.
You did everything very well . Good explanation on everything and your train of thought . Double checking before just going for it with the inspector is a great way to not have to do things twice .
Iʼm happy with the explanation.
This was a great RUclips video. Thank you for this!
amazing explanation and visual (as a teacher) I give t an A+++. I have plumbing issues, so I was researching trying to understand the plumbing system in a visual, so I can understand what the plumber is talking about. The plumbing industry has its own vocabulary so when a plumber explains with their vocab terms a regular customer, like me, has no clue what he is talking about. This video helped me to visualize and ask the right questions before I decide to spend thousands of dollars. Thank you!!!! God bless you and your family.
I watch this video, and to me is very well explain every single steps every single thing that you did you explain reasons and locations and how are you going to mark every single component I’m so proud of you. You explain everything perfectly how you can keep doing this videos a comment all the way from Chicago.
Thanks Alfonso, much appreciated! Happy Thanksgiving & thanks for checking out the channel!
Thank you Mr.You Really Did A VERY Helpful Professional knowledge and Understanding and I will give you the most Best Reveiw From Video, Speaking, Clearly and Explaining How,What ,Why,When,,Thanks MAN. I'M REALLY THANKFUL THAT I.
The Best I've Ever Watch God", Knows that He Has Bless you with Teaching, Skillmanship To Show BELIEVE IT.
Thanks Mr.I wish I could have been Around to see your Skills 40. Years ago But you were probably not OLD enough to Do.Thank AGAIN
Thank you for the brilliant explanations. and no one else does such a great job of showing us and giving dimensions for each piping connection. The lighting is great and you don't whiz by something or skip over something. Very well done, please continue to show us amateurs how you are doing the waste lines, no one else even tries to do a good job, as you have done. Thanks again QED The only question I had was, it looks like you concreted the bottom of the crawl space , why was that done, it is nice though and you can stand up in there, not many like that..
Hey Charlie, thanks so much for the message & my apology for the delayed response. I'm a bit of an amateur as well (at least in the area of plumbing, lol) so I'm really glad this video has been so helpful to everyone. We poured a slab in the crawlspace for a couple reasons... most importantly for ucc code when using superior walls as well as moisture control. However, it's been very helpful in regards to working down there as well as holding a small bit of storage. Hope this helps a bit & thanks again for the kind words. Have a great weekend!
Those twyes in the thumbnail were crazy looking
Good video mate , you got me with the copper water supply stub outs👍
Great video. I'm a clueless city slicker building my dream and this video helped alot.
Thanks a ton for your video. I'm embarking on moving my kitchen sink over a few feet and need to redo the drain/vent locations and your walk through super helped.
Nice job. Well explained and videoed. Thanks. Wish you the best.
Thanks so much, greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the video the best and simple I have seen
Thanks.
Thanks Jose, much appreciated! Happy New Year & thanks for checking out the channel!
Wow bro your awesome. Thank you for the info! You are a great teacher/contractor. 💯💯👍👍🙌🙌
Thanks for the great info and footage. I now have the confidence to plumb my own bathroom I am adding 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
No problem at all Larry & that's great, I'm glad the video was helpful! Best wishes & hope the bathroom turns out fantastic!!
First of all, thankyou for taking the time to create this video. Secondly, in my opinion you did a good job on the plumbing layout and connections.
I'm a licensed builder but not a licensed plumber but here in SC I am allowed to do all my own framing, plumbing, electrical, and hvac work on this new home I am building. I watched your video because I had a few questions regarding plumbing vents. Some of the comments were helpful but a few I disliked because they came across as condescending.... eg.- the one fellow that criticized your gluing and purple priming work. Basically, he was justifying the exorbitant charges to his customers because he could prime and glue pvc perfectly. I smell bullshit.... I'm sure he was a "union" plumber....
You are just like most people, wanting to save money- that's great! Nothing wrong with that at all!
I've reached the conclusion that the differences of opinion are due to differences of code ( UPC vs International code), what region of the US you live, and if you are from Canada vs the US.
Believe it or not, in SC, in most bathrooms you can put all the fixtures on a 1 1/2" vent. I know that for a fact because I talked to a local plumber who's been doing rough ins for 40 years. They go by international code here. Thats not to say I would do it that way, but thats the minimum ( based on the average bathroom llayout). I'm sure on larger bathrooms it would be 2 or 3 inch. I won't go less than 2 inch vent for a bathroom. If your on a tight budget though it would be okay
Bob, thanks so much for your message, greatly appreciated!! Definitely comes down to some differences in code for sure (especially since we passed with flying colors, lol). Plus, I'd like to see those guys/girls applying primer to pipe in a dark crawlspace, in the middle of winter at 0 degrees outside... something's tells me theirs might be a bit messy too 🤣! Thanks so much for checking out the channel & hope you have a great weekend!! Stay well.
Appreciate the tutorial !!!
No problem at all Rene... Thanks for checking out the channel/video, much appreciated! Happy New Year!!
I really like how you broke down everything you were explaining and the time you took going downstairs so we could get a clear understanding of each part you were talking about before moving on to the next thing; even when they were in the same room. And... you did it without editing & splicing your video. I felt like I was walking around your house with you. I wish I was because I would've loved to pick your brain. My mom is having her drains redone & because I have work a little in construction, I was picked to be the one to talk to the crew. They put a 3" drain in for the kitchen sink. I thought it was supposed to be smaller. Because of what the head guy originally had told me about what was part of her original problem. But, the crew used the 3" anyway. When I asked about it, he said it would be fine. Please tell me what you think. I'm hoping to find out before the inspection & concrete for fixing the floor is scheduled.
#1 closet flange should sit on finished floor, this will eliminate the need for a thicker or double wax ring.
#2 wet venting a washer box over a lavatory sink that sits lower is bad , you will condone getting water backed up into the sink.
#3 your waste line requires straps every 4 feet.
#5 for every 90 degree turn in the waste line, requires a clean out.
Thanks Rick, I appreciate all the info & constructive feedback. Plumbing would be the last trade in my toolbox as I come from an electrical background. This is the first time I've plumbed a house so it's been good to hear back from people checking out the video! Hope you have a great weekend and thanks again!
Great video, lots of points were mentioned, Thank you
Thanks very much & no problem at all!
beautiful
Thank you, so concise. Can you tell me the reasons behind your choice for PEX? Thank you in advance, John.
Thanks Ruby, greatly appreciated!! No real reason on the PEX other than industry standard at this point I suppose. The fact that it's inexpensive & easy to work with is just a huge bonus, lol. I like other materials as well, but PEX is definitely best for residential applications. Hope this helps a bit... Have a great weekend!
Amazing detail. Very thorough and much appreciated. Currently, building my own and this is very helpful. Thank you sir.
thank you very much you are very good explanation with every single detail best video about plumbing
Great job! Helpful for repiping my house
Nice job, looks great and compliant.
Very good and informative. Thanks!
That was a perfect video, I scouted around and by far it was excellent. Good job on all of it.
Best video ever watched.. your explaining everything perfectly..
Awesome work & video ,
Very nice work and great explanation 😊👍👍thanks for
the toilet flange should sit ontop of the finish floor or atlease 1/4 above the finish floor, the flange as is now will not allow for proper sealing between the toilet and flange with a wax ring as the wax ring may not reach all the way dow to the flange and compress to create the seal. you may need to get a tall wax ring and hope it fits , just food for thought for those of you looking to install your own toilet flange.
I am so very glad I came across your channel! My eldest son and I are starting the plumbing on my shed to home conversion (640 sq ft) and even though I have been learning everything I can about plumbing, it has been so daunting. I planned all of my plumbing fixtures on one wall to make it easier, but this project is so out of my comfort zone, I find it scary to actually start - but I will! Your video is the only one that I have found that walks you back and forth between the pipes inside and underneath, and you also go into the details I need. Thank you for posting!
Thank you so much for your comment, it couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I'm so glad the plumbing video helped you out, (funny... of all the construction trades, this was where I was least experienced 🤪 as I've spent most of my life in electrical). I watched your latest video & we too spent many hours reading, watching & planning before getting started. If you have a professional inspector, don't hesitate to bounce questions of them as well... especially if you paid for permits, 😁. Thanks again for watching & wishing you all the best on your build!
@@shabinlife I am a visual person, so just being able to confirm what I have been learning by seeing each fitting under the house was a huge help. Thanks 😊
thanks for sharing
No problem at all! Thanks for stopping by to check out the videos!
Project im on right now luckily the stack is close by
Really like 2 camera screen shots shows action & informative.
as a plumber u dont need that 3" vent for that water closet. u could have dropped the water closet 90 a little lower and rasied your main and go into a combo or wye 45 on its side and then used the vent on the shower vent as your water closet ventas it is close enough. also idk where u are located but in co u dont need 1/4" grade on 3" pipe you only need 1/8" grade.
That gelp me a lot thanks for sharing your thoughts God bless
Really thank you very much for your share
Plumber here-Please check out the requirements on spacing for hangers, clean outs and water hammer arrestors. You missed a few things!!
Did you get it inspected and did a permit?
Hey you are doing good work...can you provide a walk through of san and vent system that is underground?
Thanks very much! If you mean the septic line itself... we may do a video of the overall piping & cleanouts, but it might be awhile as I'm struggling just to keep up with our current videos, lol. Also there's really not much to it, just the main 4in line and two cleanouts... One under what will be a deck and one about 60ft before it hits the tank.
I would not drilled all those holes for the waterline through the floor joists , you could just anchor it to the bottom of the joists.
very good work and a good explanation. thanks for this video. I wish all the best for you.
This helped a lot man
Awesome and helpful video
Footage is great, thank you.
Great clean build of plumbing 👍
Thanks Dean, much appreciated!!
Muchas gracias amigo , you give me good ideas
Where I live the toilet flange sits on TOP of the finish floor. Also the vanity drain requires a later line not a direct sanitary tee fitting. You have a "S" trap, like the kitchen sink line you did. Also you can vent the whole bathroom with the 3" line, you don't have to vent each fixture separately. Drain lines on a 3" vent can be 10ft away, 2" can be 6-8ft away, 1 1/2 6ft away or less. Great looking job though.
Thanks for checking out the channel Vinny & thanks for the info, always appreciated.
in Connecticut the same way .. that 3inch can vent the whole bathroom. toilet elbow should of been a long pattern 90.
Great tip. I have a stand-up shower that is approximately 6-8 feet away from my toilet and don't have a viable way to vent it. But with your advice I feel more confident that I can use the exiting toilet vent to do that, thanks.
In reality really your flange should be flush with your finished floor..or at least kind of considering tile installation...but really the flange should not be popping out considering every toilet from the bottom is not the same all the way so u have to be careful it rock
N venting is always helps ....always put a sanatary tee for my vannitys n showers at some point
Thanks for the great video, very good info and camera footage. Also it was very..... Straight Forward 🤣
Thanks Jack, much appreciated! Yeah, we should probably turn the "straight forward" into a drinking game, lol. Thanks for stopping by & Happy New Year!
Wow man. Glad I found this video
Great video
no question , perfect
I like that adjustable flange
Great video. Clear and helpful explanation. I'm happy that I ran into your vídeo while searching for a step by step video on how to rough in plumbing a new house. I'm subscribing! 👍😄
With the exception of the primer. The guy did better than most youtubers.
Lol... Thanks very much, I'm still washing purple primer off my hands from 2021 🤪! Happy New Year & thanks for checking out the channel/video, much appreciated!!
Very helpful
good job
Love this video 👍awesome you made it with such clarity 😅thank you very much 🫡
1st video I watched from you. 1/2 way through I subscribed, thumbs up. I said to myself this guy does very good work. I've been in the building trades to include a degree in HVAC. All I can say is nice, very nice. Can't wait to see your other videos.
Hey Dennis, thanks for the message & checking out the channel, much appreciated! Always great to hear some good feedback/comments as there are so many that wanna say different, lol. Hope you enjoy the other videos & have a great weekend!!
I didn't see any cleanout tees at the vanity, kitchen, and at the laundry, maybe it's not required where you're at, but it's required where I'm from
I am building my house and this was the right time to get help, quality to the point help. thank you very much . love it. how do I get your other videos .I become a fan. as an engineer love you explain the points.
Really explicit video, showing and describing what I need to know. When I check a look at the size of your washing machine water inlets I realize they were 3/4 of an inch, so I looked at mine and the bastards put a half inch hose on a 3/4 in line. When you buy a house that has been flipped, you can expect extremely cheap connections. I have to completely redo the entire bathroom because they cheaped out on just a few things that caused the addition to sag and split from the rest of the house. So I need to move the bathroom and destroy the addition and this video helps me to understand what it's like simply to redo a new bathroom
Thanks for watching Casper, I'm glad the video was able to help you out. Best luck with your renovation!
Canadian plumber here. ½" is fine. New houses all use that and is code. Cut into one sometime and you'll see how much water is there. Lol
that is a nice crawl space compared to some i had some horror shows of a tunnel all around a whole school with only two small hatches and it was dirt and rocks i felt like i was in an escape tunnel from a prison dragging my stuff in a plastic bag behind me
Nice work thanks for the help
No problem at all Kevin... Thanks for checking out the channel/videos, much appreciated!
Incredibly helpful video!! thank you
Remember folk, codes vary state by state. In Kentucky, you can us a tee almost anywhere as long as its not laying on it's side, and not exceeding 45° if you roll it. You can't wet vent or flat vent here either.
Thanks Bobby, it always helps when solid info comes from an outside source, greatly appreciated!! Also, thanks so much for checking out the video!! Hope you have a great week!
@@shabinlife 👍 I don't have a problem with anything you're doing at all. I just want to make sure a DIYer in KY trying to rough in his own house, or doing a major repair doesn't get fed irrelevant info for my particular state. We're pretty strict here with code.
@@bobbyosborne2375 I couldn't agree more Bobby! Thanks again & stay well!
Awesome project and great video, did you pass all your inspections on the plumbing?
Thanks Eduardo, much appreciated!! We passed the plumbing rough in & pressure testing inspections with no problems at all! First time plumbing an entire house so we were pretty happy with ourselves 🤪! Thanks so much for checking out the channel/video & Happy New Year!!
great job
That’s a great job 👍
Thank you
Very nice walk-thru. Informative without too much blather.
We had trouble at my parents house for years so we finally tore it all out an put a 4” trunk line. We have had zero problems since we did that and we put long sweep 90s below the toilets.
it's nice if your drains don't run between beams on second floor you are kinda stuck with those short closet ells below toilet
@@ranger178 👍 yea that’s something to think about when building.
Great job!
YOU ARE amazing this was a great vid way helpful just great on all levels thank you you are an inspiration
The washer will not back up into the laundry sink, this installation has been done for many years under many codes. Now if the drain should clog it will but do you know the laundry sink can be an outlet for a washer as an indirect waste but no one does that anymore, you did good.
You did a great job with video and explaining thank you for the info🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you very helpful 👍👍👍
Good video but I did all my planning too ahead of framing in walls. I actually marked and drilled all my pipe holes in 5 1/2 bottom plate prior to framing that wall. That way once I framed the studs and top plate and erected and nailed in place, I was able to use my pre drilled pipe holes in the bottom plate as guide to finish drilling thru the floor decking.
Also from past experience I did not leave any big gap around tub drain pipe. Doing so will invite mice to make a home under tub and to store nuts and such under tub. I had a pecan tree and I swear it used to sound like the mice were playing marbles under tub at 3:00am in the morning. If you do drill out to big just make yourself a couple of snipped out thin sheet metal with pipe size radius cut out in both pieces and push together around pipe in floor and screw down to floor decking. Doesn’t take much opening for a mouse to squeeze through. I like to tell people if a mouse wants in my house it’s going to have to have a key to the front door.
Thanks J, all great advice & certainly not a bad thought at all. Funny enough, I just spent the last 3 days catching mice each night in my Silverado parked just outside the Shabin. Was a pain to clean out the crazy nest they made in my dashboard in only a day or two, lol. Hope you have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Thanks so much for watching!!
@@shabinlife Yeah sounds like a mess having mice in vehicle dash. You need a cat lol
I’ve looked at more of your videos. Surprised you don’t have way more subscribers. Very good channel.
Nice video, but I would not use metal plumbers' tape to support plastic pipes.
Thankyou good job
Thanks Jean!
