Is a Porsche 911 Carrera S a BETTER used sports car to buy than a C8 Corvette?

  • The 911 is onr of the most iconic sports cars from Porsche. On the outside of the 2017 Carrera S you will discover optional wheels, dual-outlet exhaust & active rear spoiler. On the inside is a full leather interior. Powering the 911 is a 3.0L twin-turbo flat-6.

There's a reason why the 911 is a timeless design. You just can't argue with the philosophy of "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it." Joe, it is just so much fun watching you with such a joyous smile on your face as you're putting this one through its "on throttle" paces. Like with Steve McQueen, this one is beyond cool.

My 1st Porsche in 2020 was a 911 991.2 Carrera S and I absolutely LOVED that car! I traded it in a year later for a 911 991.2 Turbo S that I had tuned by Pacific German in So. Cal. with a GIAC Stage 1 Tune, Soul X-Pipe, CSF Intercoolers and BMC High Flow Air Filter for an extra 60 'ish HP and 50 'ish Ft Lb TQ. Most of the time I can't get past quarter throttle on city streets. It's a blast and my favorite car that I've ever owned from muscle cars to C6 Corvette GS. I've wanted this car since I was a boy and I'm 53 years old. It's a timeless time machine that makes me feel young again no matter if I'm staring at it's beautiful lines in the garage or tearing it up on the streets! Great review!

The C8 looks like a frikin spaceship compared to the 911.
The interior is just as special on the C8 too.

Just traded my beloved C8 in for a 992 4S.
Have had C7 and C8s, tired of waiting for my ZO6 allocation, so switched teams.
I wish I’d done it sooner! OMG!! Such precision, no plastic squeaks. Mechanically superior.
like trading in a good piece of art for a great piece of art, that you can hear and FEEL.
Lost a lil flash to gain a bunch of class. The refinement is a different level. They both do the same, but in a different way.
Chevys Vette is a great value especially used, will depreciate quick too. (Still a Chevy) cheap maintenance.
I may still get the ZO6 or better, but the prestigious 911 is way better daily driver that gets the respect without shouting.

I have a 2022 911 PDK (base) and while it is quick and that is all I want when I purchased it new in 2022 I am now looking at the S/GTS. I can not take a C8 off the line or pass it in a 1/2 mile race. My neighbor has a C8 Z51 coupe and I know first hand. Fit and Finish is better on my Porsche over the Corvette C8. I am looking at trading in the base 911 for a 911 S or GTS. We all ready know the value is in the C8 over the 911.
For performance the C8 is the way to go but fit and finish and attention detail is lacking and hence the reason I went with Porsche. I also have a BMW F90 M5 when I need to take the family out and it is a force to reckon with. The M5 is comfortable and fits 4 adults with no issue. I drive the M5 more then the 911.

Turbo S is too fast to be enjoyable on US public roads. It’ll do 0-120 mph faster than most cars do 0-60. I drove a 2012 991 S and even that was almost too fast for the road, you had to really rev it out to get the most of it, but it had very tall gears so you’d be hitting 80 mph in second gear if you actually revved it out. Maybe this 992 with the turbo is better, but at least that was the case for the naturally aspirated 991. A base 992 carrera with all the performance and handling options is the sweet spot.

$94K! This 2017 Porsch is holding its value. My only zonk on this beauty is the PDK. I'd prefer the traditional "right number of pedals" transmission. As for food, nobody would be eating in this car. Besides if we're talking Brats and sauerkraut, you need a beer to with em! No drinking and driving! 😊 Brats, sauerkraut, and a couple of Shiner Bocks, sounds good right now.

Very few daily drive their 911. At least at the dealership I've seem most used 911 are very low mileage. Speaking to many owners at Porsche events it's not their daily driver. I've not seen many 911's that have 160k to 200k . Those having that many miles require the motor to be pulled more than once to maintain it. Most that I've seen are re-built at 100k and it's because of the design of the flat six. It's a great car but it's expensive to maintain "properly" and most don't maintain them properly.
