It’s time for an awesome RWD DRAG RACE!
We’ve got Mat in a Corvette C8 Stingray, and he’s facing off against a Porsche 911 Carrera and an Audi R8 RWD!
Now all these cars have pretty varied outputs, but we assure you it’s going to be closer than you think! Starting with the Corvette, it’s powered by a 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 that puts down 482hp & 613Nm. It also weighs in at 1,655kg.
As for the Porsche, its 3-litre flat-six twin-turbo engine can ‘only’ put down 385hp and 450Nm. However, it’s easily the lightest car here, weighing in at just 1,509kg!
Then finally we have the Audi. It’s powered by a gorgeous 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10, that’s good for 570hp and 550Nm. It also weighs in at 1,609kg.

Man the 911 never fails to impress. You throw it up against any sports car and it always shows you what German engineering is capable of. Being the least powerful and still keeping up with the Corvette, which is a lot more powerful, is just impressive.
Truth. Its like they freaking lie about the Porsche's specs everytime🤣
And again, it's the entry level.. I wonder if you put it and the 'vette on a dyno what numbers would come up... I don't expect the published ones based on those drag races. ;-)
@@mikerobinson7988 More likely the Corvette numbers are accurate and the 911 is downgraded so it doesn't compete against the "Turbo" model, even though it's still a turbo. 11.8 Quarter Mile, seems accurate to me. The 911 is overachieving for it's numbers, though not it's price.
Well, it's a 911 Turbo in reality right, it's published numbers are likely downgraded so it doesn't compete against the "Turbo" model which sells for a lot more. For costing $10,000 more than the Vette, I actually expected it to perform similarly.

Its the base model Corvette as well. A turbo-charged Z06 model is coming next year which should be good competition for the Porsche 911 turbo. We should see (the Z06 ) competing at Le Mans next month in GTE class against top model Porsche 911 turbos, Lambos and Ferraris (perhaps Aston as well)

yeah the awd version (if launched properly) have recorded 1/4 times of around 10.6 seconds, which is the same time as the amg gt black series which is impressive (sure the amg gt black series is a track focused car not a drag race car, but still)

Would really love to see these on a dyno. Wish you had access to one, or were able to make videos of that.
Problem is that the Corvette is a lardass. It's close to 1800 kg in the real world. On top of that the Porsche is more slippery and have a smaller frontal area.

yeah, the most expensive and the slowest plus it has more power then they declared which is idiotic. But it’s a good car because of many other things we didn’t see today like quality, reliability I guess, and many technical details, You also pay to research and development

The C8 lost to every car during the roll race and the car is marked up beyond its MSRP at least by 30k. Imagine if the Porsche and C8 was racing on a road course instead of the straight away, the Porsche would destroy the vette. Don't forget the Porsche has less hp as well lol. Take the L
Drone higher footage for side by side footage guys ! Try the drone 45 degree start for 1/4 of the drag moving forward and up then vertically up for the finish very high ariel footage...brilliant brake drone footage!

That Gymkanna move, backing the Porsche onto the start line almost dead ass perfectly after warming the tires was skills.
If the Porsche's performance against the Corvette were just due to power being more than claimed then with its inherently superior traction it would win off the line as well as in the rolling races. Yet its superiority is more clear the higher the speeds. It must be that the total drag on the Porsche is much lower than the Corvette
It’s defintely down to drag and not like everybody here’s claiming the underrated power figures.
The 911 has a very aerodynamic shape and low drag. Which is also why it’s relatively fuel efficient on the motorway (around 35-40mpg).
Lower drag area less weight and shorter gearing ratio makes the score to 911

What? The 911 was never ahead at any point so what are u saying superior traction? What's actually happening is Porsche underates the true power at the crank in all its models. It makes far more than it reports/advertises so its not drag. Porsche reports Cd (coefficient of drag) of 2022 911 in its most efficient configuration having a minimum cd value of 0.33 (achieved with closed flaps and retracted front and rear spoilers). Corvette reports the Cd of its base model C8 with a value of 0.32. i.e. its the power that is the factor for Porsche.

@@CollineinfachCollinex Of course, it's a turbocharged motor, just like the much more expensive 911 Turbo. They don't want to get too close to the numbers of a higher profit trim or model. It's still $10,000 more than the Corvette, it should perform like a nearly 100K car it is.

Corvette uses the same small block engine used on Cadillac Escalade/GMC Yukon/Chevy Tahoe with higher output. It is also used in Chevy Express/GMC Savana vans and it sounds great even in vans

Hi mat thanks for another great drag race I must say one thing I don't like Porsche that much bcoz they all look like almost identical but boy they are really really good actually now I started loving it they are excellent in braking, transmission (PDK) performance build quality overall a complete package and it comes from a hardcore bmw fanboy
My guess is alsl you need to shortshift that C8 at like 6k instead of revving it. You need to look at the power/torque curve, you re just losing power.
Also that Vette is sick being the cheapest of the bunch.

Great video Carwow! We should have more of this. Normally German cars (BMW, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes) are only compared with each other. Hardly we see comparisons between the Germans and other manufacturers.

It would be interesting to get Corvette and 911 that are optioned-up (mechanically) to the R8’s price. I don’t think the Corvette gets there with the Z06, but that should be good enough for now.
Some are missing how efficient Porsches drivetrain is. The rear mounted engine reduces the loss in power you typically see with other setups due to where the engine is placed and how it's directly connected to the transmission. Also, as we all know, they underestimate their figures.
You do realize all 3 of those cars have the same drivetrain configuration in relation to how their engine and transmission is connectd right?

They are pretty similar in terms of distance to the wheel. I think it's the gearing of the porsche to be closer ratio than the Vette at higher gears.

These guys testing the cars at 500000 ft elevation doesn’t help the vette at all. It would have walked that Porsche at sea level
Remember power to weight ratio is the key for these tests, the 911 is a bit over 3,100 lbs in that configuration, corvette 3,700 and R8 3,700 to 3,900 lbs makes a difference its like putting 3 adults the car.....

To bypass the soft limiter on most of them, after your vehicle is warmed up, put your drivetrain in neutral (instead of Park), that will usually allow you to rev to full RPM.
Doesn't work on my '22 R8. Neutral will still have the 3K soft limit. A cheat is to rev the engine in launch control without actually launching it.

Really wonder at what altitude they are racing. One explanation of why the Corvette loses may be that it's at least at 1000 meters above sea level (which helps the turbocharged of the Porsche).
Very cool, can you do a drag race with the base 911 and a Challenger hellcat? They’re literally everywhere here in the states, 700 hp but also as big and heavy as a boat.
Idk about a base 911 but ig it depends on how the hellcat grips, I'd maybe have an emergency higher trim 911 as the third car.

@@bradmartland5723 quad tailpipes on the first gen was the V8 Model, right. (At least before the facelift) But every first gen R8 was AWD. There are some tuned first gens where they disconnected the front diff to make them RWD only. But from factory there were no RWD V8s ever made.
Rhe coolest R8 ever made was a concept with a mid mounted V12 TDI. That would have been a unicorn
