  • This drag race pits the new 2023 Corvette Z06, and its outrageous, 8600-rpm 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 against the world's fastest naturally aspirated, mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive cars - and one motorcycle:
    Representing the 4-cylinder engine is the 15,500-rpm Ducati Panigale SP2, Ducati's top-of-the-line track-focused superbike.
The 6-cylinder Porsche 911 GT3 is the naturally aspirated benchmark at more than 125 hp/liter and a 9000-rpm redline.
And the Audi R8 Performance V10 Spyder RWD has an 8700-rpm screaming V-10 shared with the Lamborghini Huracan.
In this episode of Cammisa's Ultimate Drag Race Replay, Webby Award-winning automotive journalist is joined by SCCA Hall of Fame Race Car Driver Randy Pobst - and MotoAmerica Supersport Champion rider Josh Herrin.
And they might have attacked one another with a baseball bat.

@@backyardhooper06 the trick is (or at least thats what i have read) to be able to keep te wheelie on the exact angle that allows the entire weight of the bike to be on the rear wheel for max traction, and also with geining higher speeds to also use the air's drag forces to push the bike down for extra traction because a bike like that is capable of loosing traction in pretty high speeds.
if he had the front wheel on the ground he loses too much weight on the rear not being able to gain the extra performance of the available power.
so actually that is what he gained against others dragging the same bike.
it is a very thin needle to thread, but done properly it gives great results. he has also used no elextronic assistance as that would either block him from doing the controlled wheelie and/or loose him the one wheel stability he greatly posseses.

@@backyardhooper06the wheelie helps transfer weight to grip the road. And you have less rolling restriction. MotoGP riders do it all the time. There was a video that explains it. The fastest way to ride a bike is if your front tires are barely touching the ground. It's why MotoGP biked exit corners skimming and doing low wheelies. Physics.

@LeeXRV well, that motorcycle happens to have double the power to weight ratio, but when it comes down to it, the Corvette would win on the track. Motorcycles are pure mechanical grip and acceleration, so low speed corners and long straight are a race bike's bread and butter, while high speed corners and heavy braking corner entries are their kryptonite, yet those are the Vette's advantages. A race track like willow springs would favor the bike, while a track like VIR Full Course, Road Atlanta, and Laguna Seca would favor the vette

For all of the times that GM has viewed the world from a dark cramped space, delivering undeniable insanity like the C8 Z06 reminds me how good an engineering company they are. This video is proof that sanity is optional to be part of the Corvette team.
Except for the late 70s, the Corvette has defined bang for your buck. My C5 has 178,000 miles and still pulls like the day I left the Corvette museum in my first new car, my first Corvette. It always fires up (today after a year in storage) and has never stranded me. It's dancing on pavement when i track it and can hold all of my tools for a job in a pinch. When GM gets it right they define what outstanding engineers can deliver when sanity is optional.

Now of course there are other factors, like launch effectiveness, drag, gearing differences, blah blah blah, etc. But a 15% baseline advantage is a heck of a lot to overcome. That Vette ain't messing around. I would have been shocked at any other result. @xtnuser5338 11 месяцев назад

@@ronretired282 It's firmly sprung of course, firmer than a C8, and it's not well insulated against noise. But otherwise I find it quite civilized. Do try to avoid potholes and such, but they don't jerk the steering wheel out of your hands or anything like that. I would liken the ride to something like a 335i but with stiffer coil-overs. It doesn't tram line over grooves much at all, although it does pull to the side VERY slightly when on a cambered road, or side-to-side if the road is undulating in camber back and forth, but not significantly enough to be anything close to bothersome. In fact it didn't do it at all before I got a track alignment done.
Now, VERY rough roads, like an old one-lane country back road that is really full of potholes and ruts, is going to have you slowing right down and navigating the imperfections carefully, but it has to be pretty damn bad for that to be the case. About what you would expect for any low, firmly sprung sports car. It's not as rough riding as my F250, but of course in the truck you can just barrel down such a road, if you're willing to suffer the ride, without worrying about damage.
I should provide a reference for my opinion of civilized. I came out of a track prepped Lotus Exige, which was rougher, noisier, and followed every little change in road surface...and I loved it! But even with that acknowledged, I wouldn't call the RS a handful unless what you're used to is a Lexus or something like that. Just imagine your Carrera if you put stiffer, lower coil overs on it. That's basically what it is after all.

Rumor has it the ZR1 will have the LT6 with twin turbos. Zora will have the same TT-V8 with the E-Rays hybrid system making it AWD around 1,100hp.

If you've ever wondered why guys ride motorcycles, this video gives you one answer. If you think the straight line speed is exciting, fast cornering on bikes is like no other vehicle due to lean angles. You're not just driving, you're INVOLVED.

In this episode we all knew the Duck was going to squawk the loudest and you brilliantly stretched the episode to two races! Wonderful!
