- This new Fishing rig works a dream! Graeme heads back down to the beach to test out a different rig setup he thought might work as it has a tiny hooklength of about 2 inches? Will it catch anything at all? He is making it out of doubled 50lb mono with a 50lb hooklink....Is he mad? and a stiff plastic boom next to the bait? Surely not..but better watch the film to find out if you think fish are spooked by really thick hooklinks....Then he is off into his man cave armed with saws, drills, and bolts plus his favourite FREE palletwood..what on earth is he going to make? You think the film is finished after that but no he gives you a Random section of Country stuff with tools and implements from yesteryear, plus a look at the World before washing machines were invented..It’s Friday night which means it’s Totally Awesome time again..Enjoy!

G'day Graham, ... mate, .... as an angler, woodworker, lover of fine blues and indeed history, I reckon thats the best single vid I've EVER seen on YT.
Re; whiting rigs. I dont know if you have them over there, but here in oz you can buy a pre-made whole boom set up. The booms are made from shiny plated rigid twisted wire, with flouro beads and clips on each leg for hooks and sinkers as well as for attachment to a swivel on the main line. (the only knot necessary). Quite cheap too ; ) My best catches of whiting both in terms of size and quantity have been on these, as well as by-catches of flathead, small snapper, (pinkies), and others. They definitely help with tangles and bait presentation I reckon, especially off the beach. Of course we all blank far more than we'd like, but I call them "dinner rigs" ; )
What I love about your version is for the sake of some tubing in the tackle box you can make one anywhere and you have more control over the boom length and the extra color doesnt hurt either.
At the end of the day, .......... cant say I'm surprised you had so much success ; )

Graham really great fishing rig & lot of fish. It's always very satisfying when you make up fishing rigs & go out fishing & catch fish on them well done mate loads of real good info. I make up all my beach traces conger / tope traces plus I've made up nearly a dozen jif lemon floats & sprayed them flourecent orange also made up a set of mackerel feathers & make up my beach & boat leads saves buying it all 👍🎣🐟🐟

Hosay Hallapeenio On Vitamin tubes.
Hosay can't tell you much about vitamins but Hosay uses tubes big tablets were sold in for storing spare moped lightbulbs, spark plug, CO2-flasks, glue and rubber plugs for tyre repair. In his tacklebox he has a few that protect fragile bits and bobs, and squeezable things like superglue as he does not like to see leak onto his other gear...
One evening, a NEW idea struck. A simple thing that would do away with the recurring problem of "Where's that baitingneedle blown to now?". So... Once the idea had formed, Hosay drilled small holes into the side of 8 of these vitamin tubes, not through the bottom but near the bottom, so that rain and wormblood could leak out and the baiting tool would not get stuck into a drilled hole. After he had taped two to a sand spike he saw that they could be paired side by side.
So later on he put two nitrile butadeen O-rings around pairs. (These don't rot, whereas latex elastic rots) (Hot glue did not last, O-rings work well enough)
How easy is that? Put a pair on a rodrest at the baiting station/shelter and also on the fishing rodrest(s)
As a final touch, steel wire hooks (to hang spare rigs onto) can be fixed to rodrests.
The tripod Hosay uses on stone/concrete got tubes taped to its hind leg, one a fair way below another. (The spike extention can easily move under them). The GREAT advantage is that he does not have to buy new baiting needles every other session, because them needles can't fall off/get blown off. Another advantage was bait protection. Baited up rigs can get "inspected" by dogs on some beaches. When your loaded needle is protected in a tube like this, the dog won't get it. And shielded from the wind, bait won't dry out fast.

Good idea.I never thought of that. I ought to drop one in my garden pond with underwater camera and see if it floats. I might even add a pop up bead and see what happens as that would avoid summer crabs stripping baits.
Brilliant video mate, Its lovely to see the new "old" style rigs being used and catching good fish, I still use boom style rigs all the lime but never with short hook lengths like you have, I will certainty be giving it a go. I might dig out some of my old French booms kicking about and try them again, I know they do not cast very far but I am not a big caster so that is not a problem. Good choice of music as well. Keep the great videos coming.
That tall wooden washing item, is called a dolly (dolly tub) it was put in the tub of washing and twisted to agitate it. My gran used to do her washing like that, the flat iron sat on a plate that swung out over the fire. She also had a mangle, and like you, I managed to get my finger caught in it.... happy days 😂.
And crushed fingers in the mangle..but we all survived...

I think it must be having the hook so close to the plastic boom. I just wanted to illustrate that sea fish are not put off by heavy hook links like 50lb.
I think x marks the spot is exactly what fish think. If there’s a gullet where bait is holding, that is the exact spot where the fish will be found. That’s why, when you fish Hythe, you’ll know exactly where the sole will be sitting, same as langney point in Eastbourne. If we’re talking summer fish that follow bait then yes, they will move about, but winter fish… X marks the spot
Hi Graham you ok pal , well done on your rig , worked spot on. So pleased you had a not too bad of a session on the beach as we mite see some more. I was out yesterday morning on the humber and it was tuff going. Just 2 bites and a 29cm flounder to save the day on blacks n tipped with squid. All the best from GRIMSBY

Good idea,the saltwater will crush everything. Makes sense to look after reels with a washdown after a trip.

Seems to be worth a try, l sometimes use a boom but using such a short line to the hook may well be the trick
You can see the fish are not put off by how close the hook is to the boom.

Love the rig i use a version of it for carp exactly the same just one of them but im going to be giving this a try next time im out

@@TAFishing WE have lost the insect also. Butterflies. Bumble bees. Honeybees. It’s very strange to me and it started after c 19. Love your videos our fishing has gone to hell there’s so much growth that our streams that once had rocky sandy bottoms are now full of silt. Greed is destroying it all. P. S show those big brown trout more respect. Here in the states we call those like the big one you threw back wall hangers. I would give my right nut to catch one that big. Be safe gray man.

Have you ever used sea trout strips as a beach casting bait? I had nothing else to use this evening but couldn't resist the urge to get out tonight after seeing a beautiful evening. Here on inch beach, co. Kerry, Ireland.
My sea trout strips are salted as I made them experimentally after catching them from the beach on salted mackerel strips...
Just curious if you think I'm wasting my time?! I will of course update if I've any success!!
Never used them for bait as I rarely get the chance to catch Sea Trout...but anything is worth trying .

You don't see any point in moving up or down on a 5 mile stretch of beach? The fish DO know the hotspots because the hotspots are where the sea bed is holding food. No angler should ever assume that the sea bed is the same all the way along a beach. Those that put the hard work in to find those areas will reap the rewards with bumper catches.
I just fish the same spot as I refuse to pay the council parking charges when it used to be free all winter. I get they charge in the summer,but they could give everyone a break in the winter months.

With a hook length one inch long to the tube ?. That's the secret. Flapper is a longer snood length.

That's simple,just don't go fishing for them. All you have to do is lob out half a mackerel and your problem is solved. I appreciate any fish that comes along ,its getting harder out there so I just want to enjoy whatever we have left in the ocean.

True,it is all down to attention span of the modern society. You might be interested to know that the "hook" to get views is just.....3 SECONDS !!!, after that most people scroll.I started watching people on phones and they are perpetually scrolling and they rarely hold onto screen images of social media for more than those few seconds. Getting them to watch something for almost an hour must be impossible ,and most of my viewers would be "grown ups" who according to the data do actually watch far longer....The lucky thing is that by funding the channel ourselves,with no sponsorship etc we can put up whatever takes our fancy ,and that could be Random stuff on the end of the fishing section. I strongly suspect more chopping and old man activities to come....Its what happens when you have fished extensively for over 60 years...the enjoyment of filming different topics.

the rig your using is nothing new have not seen you use anything diferent in all your videos one rig you mentioned is a hair rig why not try a dongle ris or a clipped down rig ?
This is the first winter I have ever used this rig,but some people don't seem to pick up on the fact there is no long hooklink,which is just about an inch long and almost touching the boom. I have never seen that before and I wanted to try it to illustrate you don't always need long flowing hooklinks of light line to catch fish. I don't think many people make their hooklinks one inch long and with 50lb line ?...Or maybe they do. The hair rig I use when Carp fishing the bait is not attached to the book,but the hair. If you watch the film you will see me thread the worm right up the hook. I have plenty of clipped down rigs,whackernoster, up and over, pennel rigs,flapper rigs etc,but not one of them has a long plastic boom . I like to try different things....Fishing is all about experimenting with rigs.
sorry i think your wrong many people fish with booms and with different hook lenghs thats nothing new ik feel that sometimes you are copying other podcasts and make out that you have discovered new things maybe you need to design a new rod and get that built
