- Sea fishing at night with a catch and cook. This film is a night time beach episode where GP grabs a few hours after a solid week's work hoping to find a Whiting to go in the frying pan for a shoreside cookup. But, the ocean has other ideas and he sits watching motionless rod tops until a dredger turns up, and the tide starts to ebb..then it all kicks off. He gets his Whiting for his beach feast, but it’s not the only species to put in an appearance...he gets lots of action and some rod rattling bites...Then its back to the Totally Awesome film studio where he ponders the question of exactly what is going on with some weird maggots he discovers that he thinks might be killing his huge tree. Add to that the strange appearance of some fungus on the tree that just turned up in a couple of days and you have an hour long film that might just get you thinking. It’s Totally Awesome time again!

Grab popcorn! Have a good one 🎣
Haven’t got any, got a nice cup of char though 😂
Thanks so much very appreciated from all of your fans 👍
Love the shore fishing the best. Watched your videos to get started sea fishing and still find them motivating to get out there. Cheers.
Good session Graham, saw you in the shop picking up the bait. That can be a hard beach to fish at times.
🎣👍. More like . Give the wife some money 💰, to go play Bingo 🤣🤣
FINALLY, A SEA FISHING EPISODE!!! Love to see it Graeme, tight lines!!🎣🌊
Sat with my new born son on my chest, watching our first TA fishing video together just like I promised him! A new army member. Thankyou Graeme, for the time and effort. We both appreciate it!
Welcome to the Army..hope he gets the bug to go fishing when older.
@@TAFishing he won’t have a choice 😁
Havin 5 kids and a big tafishing fan I’ve watched so many of grahams videos with new horns, great watch and I think the ocean sounds help relaxing the baby too!!
@@integraellie 5 kids! You are a braver man or woman than me haha. Just off the back of a sleepless night, I couldn’t imagine doing it 5 times! Brilliant though isn’t it, I hope you and all your army are well mate
@@tommos16 no6 on the way too!!
My best offer with your willow tree is that it's dying of old age. They are relatively short lived trees (40-50 years) and the summer drought may well have stressed it to the point it gives up the ghost.
The fungus will indeed be living on the wood which has already died. The very wet autumn has helped the fungus - they thrive in wet conditions.
The maggots are from a fly laying it's eggs on the fungus so they can feed on it as it decays. Flies do this commonly with fungi - it's a good source of food at a time of year when there isn't much about. I couldn't tell you the name of the fungus but it's probably an opportunistic species that targets any dead wood rather than something specific to willow.
The maggots are likely from a blowfly - yes they could be used as bait if you could be bothered to collect enough!
Looks like Honey Fungus (armillaria mellea) has taken over the willow. It is considered by some as edible. Never tried it myself. Maggots look good for bait though...
The best fishing channel on the tube, bar none!!
Honey fungus, sadly the tree is doomed i think🙄
I just saw the fungus on the willow Graeme. It looks like Honey Fungus (Armillaria), which to be, sure shows a white fungal growth, which can be found between the bark and wood, usually at ground level. The mushrooms only appear in Autumn. It may be too far gone to be saved.
Love a TA beach session, thanks Graeme 👍
Good for you putting the beautiful Bass back.
You have my upmost respect for putting your bigger bass back, greetings from S/E Ireland
He’s a great fisherman, where in Ireland are ya? I have a place in Carne beach
Better than watching England play football.
I never saw it,but sounds like I missed nothing.
I think that's a Honey Fungus. If you peel away the bark is it white? it gets into the roots and will weaken the tree to the point that is vulnerable to blowing or falling down. But that can take a few years. As I recall Honey Fungus are amounsgt the biggest organisms on the planet, with mycelium hundreds of metres long.
Nice one Graeme, God, that looks cold, regards to the family 👍
Woo hoo the weekend has just begun. Thank you Graham.
If you want to catch Whiting Graeme, get yourself up to North Wales. We are currently catching around 100 per session. It's crazy 👍
Last man standing got his reward turned into a fantastic session, really enjoyed the video Graeme what a star👍🎣🎣
Cracking bass, well done on putting it back 👍
Youngsters and novices take note learn from Anglers like Graeme watercraft is a must, its not just about rocking up with the latest tackle money could buy no matter where or what type of fishing you do. Well done on another great film Graeme keep em coming.👍
We were the 5 blokes in your video to the right of you if I knew it was you I would have popped up for a chat well done mate
He seems to like his sessions as more of alone time with the camera sharing with us thanks for not the videos he has fishing with Mike are totally awesome though might be fun to see him fishing with a fellow fan as it's only a dream for me 👍
Went home too soon!
@@newsmonger77 we went for a Chinese lol
I have an IMAX floatation suit which I bought for my boat. Never worn it as a suit, too hot. Brilliant buy. Nice and cheap too. Another great vid Graham. May I be the first to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas.
And the same in return..have a safe one.
Honey fungus time to fell it
Hayling Island? you may have said and i missed it but i remember the dredger kicking off the fishing :) a1 ty
Average age of a willow is only 50 years :(
The fungus looks like Beef Steak Fungus.
Looks like the Spinnaker Tower in the distance. :)
I had a sundridge heavyweight two piece suit. Kept me warm and dry for 20 years. Eventually it wore out so I have replaced it with a modern one from sundridge again. Secret to really enjoying the outdoors is to be warm and dry.
Back to basic on the beach. Love it
Cooking on the beach ? Looks a right faff. A survival situation calls for a £3 Meal Deal. Nice Bass😊
I could tell you really enjoyed that session Graeme and those waves sounded awesome, lot better than carping would you agree ? Thanks for sharing it with us I thoroughly enjoyed ever second but guess what else I didn't see ? 😎.
Colin the Kite.
@@TAFishing That didn't take you long Graeme, I've only just finished reading the comments 👍
Congratulations Graham on a great session you deserve it after all your endeavours and efforts, always great dialogue and personality, vive la TA 😉👍
The mushrooms are honey fungus. Honey fungus will often but not always kill trees. There are several different types.
We have so many Whiting off the East Norfolk coast that I usually only put one rod out as it gets too hectic and if you put more than the single rod out out you end up with some fish deep hooked. These Whiting are now here all year round, when once they were only present Autumn/Winter. There is no point in Lug or Rag as you still get Whiting, fresh Herring works great for most things, but we catch the Whiting on Pigs Liver or Hearts which they readily take and of course these baits are dirt cheap…
Great video Graeme. The tree issue at the end if you have fungi growing at the base of the tree. It means the tree in infected with rot. Once it happens the whole tree is infected. The internal structure is probably rot also. Best thing to do is cut it down so the fungi does not spread 👍🏻
Thanks so much very appreciated from all of your fans 👍
No problem,I enjoy making them.
Always love to see you Sea Fishing Graeme, never watched Freshwater, I laughed my head off when I saw you on the Antiques show...can't remember what you showed em but it was something your relative said about going up.....hic...thanks for the shows
A totally awesome price o think you said I also wear charity shop coats I got a black waterproof duffle coat with a peaked hood from Blue Basics it's like a lambswool inside waterproof outside. At last Smith replies
Be worth something one day auntie
Hi Graeme,
In the winter i use a full 2 piece Floatation Suit. Unbeatable for keeping all weathers out. They are fantastic. I am on my second one from Edinburgh Angling Centre in 8 years. Their own brand is Fisheagle and their a steal of a price. Would recommend to everyone, no matter the Brand.
Nice to see you back out on the Beach, so relaxing listening to the Waves.
You never know the French might put some Brie on your Hooks for when you wind back in from your vast Casting. Ha Ha.
Cheers Graeme.
Steve in Fife.
I loved this video plenty of nice fish, fresh fried fish and a very happy fisherman. What more could a guy want from a fishing video. Thanks and stay safe.
I'm 70, arthritic and might well never catch another fish. So instead I look up Mr Pullen, the most active fisher-pensioner anywhere. And know he'll entertain me no matter how much or how little he might happen to catch. But I was deeply envious of that stinking bass, Graham. Well done sir!
It's a rarity for me to get one like that ,so was gratefully accepted even if it was pure fluke.
@@TAFishing That should have been "stonking" bass! So much for apple autoError!
My warmest suit was a one piece lined Rukka motorcycle oversuit that my wife threw away due to not seeing me wear it. She will be replacing it with a Fladen one piece Flotation Suit for £160, less than the rukka cost when I bought it !
Fish on! Happy friday to you and the crew
My best coat is my old BT waterproof coat I kept when i retired 10 years ago. Beats anything!
Hey Graeme nice session. The weather isn't that good. Supposed to get really cold in December. Maybe your tree won't make it. I've seen this in are Forest here in Germany. They always take down. Have a great weekend.
Any idea what it is with the tree?
@@elsathal7359 it might be a sulfur polypores
Nothing like sulphur polypore
Hi Graeme, love your videos watched them for years! For the Fungi try contacting a guy called Paul Sterry (Nature Photographers Ltd) he'll probably know.
Good to see you back on the beach Graham. Cracking bass too 👍🏼
Mention Beach casting only at High Tide Day or Night along with Sand Bars and a Tide Book.
I was out again last night and caught down near low tide ??? I can't work it out...its weird.
my warmest jacket is IMAX arctic. its too much for UK but its nice to be able to wear it in winter without needing to zip it up. Got matching bib/brace set which is great but again overkill for UK
Honey Fungus at the base of your tree, chainsaw time sadly. Magots eating in the toadstools. Ivy growing on sparse trees, Ash dieback isn't helping, and normally grows most in spring and autumn when the leaves are off and it's gets more light. Mainly prevalent where no/little maintenance is taking place. Nice Bass's btw
Just what I need after working a late shift. Well done mate 👍 the bass was a cracker love a catch and cook video to. The floatation jacket will be good I have a daiwa one made by sundridge and have never been cold wearing it only trouble is it can get too hot when carrying your gear for a while aha.
Tight lines mate
no expert but my guess would be Honey fungus - have a look to see if you can see any black blootlace like threads arounf the base or under the bark.
Best thing you can do is get your tame lumberjack to drop it cos if it decides to fall it could do serious damage to you, the bungalo or worse still ... the tackle shack ! if it losing bark at the base then it not worth trying to save IMHO
Good video though ... nice Bass ... I'm afraid that would have come home with me if I'd have landed it.
It was a very close run thing with the Bass. I thought about keeping it but then I had a good evening,so I thought it might bring some luck if I returned it.
Fantastic video again, turned into a great session.
Fungus on Willow is Honey fungus Graeme, end of the road for the tree unfortunately in the location it is, (I'm a tree surgeon based in the Midlands)
Look forward to more videos
Great to see you dipping a line into the salt again Graham.....much missed! Good to see that lovely Bass go back too, well done.
Yes it turned into a good session and I do miss a bit of beach fishing. I used to do lots of it years ago between November and February when the freshwater fishing got hard or the rivers flooded. I find it more productive than summer fishing as I can fish into the dark more.
Hi Graeme. Off topic but I was sent a congratulatory post saying I had a won a competition and to contact you on Telegram....If this isn't you then you are being copied on that app.
Yes its just some saddo doing the junk con thing. I try to remove and block them most of the time. It would be nice if they tried working for living.
Got the same thing do you get the reply I sent one ?declined as you are the gift Thanks💞
Yes, I received that too!!! Reported it.
Didn't know about reporting it will check it 👍thanks
Graham .can I ask have you retired the old girl ( the boat not seen her for awhile ) I mean 👍
No,not had time to use it,just about to sort out getting her advertised. Whole package going.
The imax jacket is out of this world I use the full suit in the winter when fishing. Never been wet or cold whilst wearing it
Awesome video
I'm so glad you had a successful beach fishing trip. My warmest jacket is a good quality ski jacket I found in a skip. It belonged to my employers son who had outgrown it. Sorry to see your willow coming to the end of it's life. I think the honey fungus is just nature moving in to start the recycling process.
Wow what a Bass, well done mate, hats off to you, well done, be safe graeme, your the man for sure, not my thing, but great to watch.
I don't often get a decent fish on the bonus "shotgun" spinning rod,so I was well overdue for a good one.
Glad that session turned around. Will have to try the sweet chilli sauce inside the fish. Love the beach and boat sessions, always the unknown of what you are going to catch or not.
Honey Fungus. Nothing you can do to save the trees affected. It's a bastard to get rid of. The maggots are from a fly.
Great bass. Worth braving the cold for.
It certainly made a change to pick up a decent one,and on the "shotgun" spinning rod just cast out on the inside.
We are all at sea just like the England football team! At least I will enjoy watching this!
I never watched the match as too much work going on but sounded like I missed nothing.
Much respect mate all the way from NSW Australia!
Thank again Graeme for another great fishing adventure, what a fantastic Bass that was it was good that you perservered with the session a lot of people would have given up once you hit high tide but the fishing just got better and better congrats, you have more stamina than me at 71 year old!!!
You want to be careful that no one mistakes you for a lifeboat in that jacket.
Over the last 20 years I've noticed a serious decline in inshore fishing. I put it down to a large increase in the number of people fishing over recent years. Especially since COVID. Amateur fishing has the highest participation levels of non-competitive sport in Australia and in Queensland in particular. Just about every household here has a rod or two tucked away in the garage. Once you're off-shore or away from large population centres the fishing dramatically improves.
I've found that fishing around active dredges can be very bad or very good. The amount of noise and commotion will drive many fish away, but fish like whiting will go nuts because of the surge of food in the water. When we pump yabbies for bait (the Yanks call them ghost shrimp, no idea if you have anything similar in the UK, but they look a bit like a laungestine) and the whiting will form roving packs like sharks feeding on tuna.
It looks like a dead night turned into quite a good session! Well done mate.
There are three fungi there Graham; Grifolia frondosa, Polyporus squamosus (secondary pathogens), and the most lethal Armellaria spp. (honey fungus). Willows are short lived, fast growing, and weak wood species. Unfortunately this willow has reached the end of its life.
And that's why there is no inshore fish. Bacton at North Norfolk, they pumped 1M cubic meters of sand ashore, changed the environment forever.
The sand is always on the move, putting off the shrimp and inshore peeler crabs, so no fish.
Still at least the dog walkers and holiday makers have a nice beach.....
thanks for sharing mate, I really enjoyed :)
What a session Graham. Cracking bass as well. Unbelievable sport mate 👏 👌
This dredging business is on purpose..I was in Portsmouth and because the mackerel came into the point they sent in a dredger to clear them out...and between Isle white and pmouth was 5 fish trawlers ..the fish didn't come back in harbour
It It looks like you're trees have been attacked by honey fungus. Awesome video nice bass and good decision putting it back as that is a breeding one. Look forward to your next video. From Kent
In a word the problem can be fully covered Graeme.
Human GREED
the saying used to be "there are more fish in the sea than ever came out of it".
Certainly not true nowadays.
My favorite coat is my GORTEX US Army issue. I still wear it all the time. And popcorn is ready, also I put peanuts and chunks of chocolate in mine.
They look like Honey Fungus on your Willow. Probably maggot due to flys in the fungus. I would look up Honey fungus on Willow if i were you. lots of info online. Good luck, great vid!
Honey fungus on your willow tree. Causes but and root rot. Can lead to rootplate failure. Consider pollarding or removal and replacement. The fact that it's all the way around the base means it might not be good news I'm afraid.
Great video
Just want to say I have a few items off you I find it's really good quality.
Your a legend mate . Keep up the great
Now that's a session to remember 👌 yet again another excellent video keep up the good work Graham 👏
My friend gave me his old all in one flotation suites with all the pockets you don't really need lol but by god it keeps you really warm when you're fishing the beach
I reckon the tree has had it sadly - when it comes down, I want to see a GP special - make your own rod from it, and then catch a >1lb fish?...
The fungus looks like Honey fungus to me which usually grows on dead or dying wood. The maggots are just from flies that lay their eggs in the mushrooms.
I love the shore fishing films, never tried it myself only ever freashwater.would love to try any chance of a guide for complete beginner film
love your beach fishing episodes and another fantastic one, i´m a bit of a novice to the shore angling but i´ve been fly fishing and such inland for years and its always great in the summer here in Iceland and missed the early summer fishing for shore angling. but always love these videos really got me into beach fishing and rock fishing. but i dont know if youve fished in iceland but you should definitely try it if you haven't anyways love your videos
Never been to Iceloand. Obviously I know of the famous Salmon fishing in the rivers, but I never heard what you could catch from the shore up there ?..Cod I imagine, maybe Haddock as well ?.
Probably gets harder to catch fish every year because they watch your youtube videos and are getting wise to your tricks 😂😂
IN A SURVIVER SITUATION WOOD YOU EAT THAT FUNGUS GRAEME AS U SAY GREAT VIDEO I WATCHED YOU WHEN U AD FIRES ON BEACH AND FIXING DRAIN I THINK IN YA LOVELY HOUSE

Cheers Graeme, well done!!! Very nice video! I'm waiting for another of yours fresh water predator's fishing trip! Greetings from Italy!!!
H there Italy...I have a couple of Pike fishing films on file,so will be placing them in the colder months when I can't get out myself.
I'll wait for them!!! Thanks Graeme, you're the best! Keep on fishing!
GREAT CHANNEL YOU GOT I DO MY FISHING IN BIGGLESWADE BEDFORDSHIRE AND AROUND THE AREA AND UP TO PETERBROUGH
Just one thing he did say at one point at the start on his 2nd rod he put it out there at 750 yards wow I think if I remember Jamie used a Zipplex 427SU rod to launch his 150gm lead the massive distance of 281.75 meters, 308 yards, and that was NEW WORLD CASTING RECORD
Lmfao 🤣
Glad you got the joke...The only time I could cast that distance is when I break off !!
Well done what a nice bass , bet that whitting was tasty
our inshore waters are far to polluted and full of litter ,why would any fish want to swim there..
The ivy is taking over roadside trees because councils don’t and haven’t done their jobs for years. Farmers ale sure they keep the trees in their fields as healthy as possible for obvious reasons. Roadside trees are the responsibility of local councils who just don’t give a shit. Too much like hard work for the freeloading self serving desk slugs that run our counties…. Just my opinion of course, many other popular opinions are available
Haha...Don't mince your words..tell it as it is..I love it....I particularly like the "freeloading,self-serving desk slugs"..I am about to take them to task myself for yet again screwing up my daughter's council tax bill, despite me HAND DELIVERING the correct information direct to their offices, making sure the delivery is on their security cameras so they cannot dispute having the required information...Honestly I would laugh...if I could only stop crying with frustration.
Look forward to you videos absolutely brilliant 👏
On these through the nighters, can i ask i you use the cheapo packet pocket warmers, they were on offer in the every little helps recently , but retail boxes volumes can be picked up on the jungle warehouse for cheap , For my through the night fishing a few of these round the body keep the chills at bay. Tighlines, always a great fishing , coffee stop.
I don't know about cheap hand warmers, mine are ancient 40 plus year old versions, but they are OK slid inside a glove to keep the fingers moving.
How do you overcome the pincers on rag worms when threading down the hook, that’s why I don’t use rag worms at all as you can’t get away from the pincers unless you body lob worms style of hooking but then the rag worm flies off any help ❤
Shove the hookpoint straight down the pincer end, usually solves any "nippy" problems.
I am going to try a battery powered heated makita gillet to try stay warm after Christmas.
Awesome video Graham nice, bass and good of you to put back after you had your dinner. Raking always works in coarse fishing. releasing worms, critters, grubs etc. maybe the dredger is, doing a same in the, sea. Those poor guys getting pebbledashed 😂😂. Keep em comming. Im off to Walcott beach tomorrow morning 🤞🤞
I've copied the way Graham has rigged up with his dead baits my first time beach casting and caught my first Codling. Gotta give credit where it's due man is a Legend.
well done with the Codling...I haven't had one this winter at all...Might be an outside chance from the shore in the Somerset area though...
I’m going Jamaica 🇯🇲 in @2weeks for new yr I’m gonna go out on a boat fishing iv never sea fished nor from a boat only carp night an day fishing
I was over there fishing for Blue Marlin with the wife(not using the wife for bait !),and stayed at Ocho Rios,on the North shore . Blue water is very close in there,so you should be in with a chance of Kingfish,Barracuda,Sailfish, small Tuna etc. Good luck with the trip...Don't know about the shore fishing though. Would suggest a bit of common sense especially not going fishing on your own from the shore.. Got to be better weather that time of year than here in UK...
Great video Graeme thanks for another awesome show
.....Great video!!! I particularly like the 'Hop On One Leg' Eric Morecombe cast!!! :-)
I think I should put a bag of sand around it to hold it down !!!
Thought he was auditioning for Come Dancing
Great to see a sea session
Thanks for sharing sir ..
