How to Fix Group Policy Client Service Error (Windows 8.1) Solution #1
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 июл 2017
- How to fix Windows error in which it failed to connect to a windows service. It cannot connect to the Group Policy Client Service. This tutorial is for Windows version 8.1.
The error message you will encounter reads as follows "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows couldn't connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents standard users from signing in. As an Administrative user, you can review the system event log for details about why the service didn't respond."
This Group Policy Client service error can cause a lot of problems. Such as Google Chrome or other programs not opening, or taking a long time to open. Also some files may not open or again take forever to finally load. When I was encountering this problem it took over 10 minutes for Google Chrome to finally launch, and sometimes it would not launch at all. This also gave me a lot of trouble when trying to open broadcasting software such as OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) or XSplit.
This is the first solution of many I will be posting on this problem. To view other possible solutions to this problem visit this playlist here:
This tutorial will be the same for 32 bit or 64 bit version of operating systems. However it may be a little different on different versions of Windows (such as Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 98)
The possible causes for this problem to start occurring are as follows:
Loss of power which would result in an improper shutdown.
Any other improper shutdown
Crash during windows update

This WAS my problem, and funny thing is, I didn't do ANYTHING. I have Windows Updates Disabled, I don't run pirated programs or keygens, etc..... I DO play World of Tanks however and everything was fine the day before. Then, WarGaming did an update, and I did not play after. I had to work. But when I came home today and booted up my machine, I kept getting this Group Policy crap.
everything on my regedit had the EXACT same nonsense as yours... letters switched around.
I've never done improper shutdowns or sudden loss of power because I am on a Laptop. So what else could this be?
If you ever find the reason behind this, PLEASE let me know.
I had to leave suddenly and didn't get to finish, but forgot to mention I liked and subbed!
not everyday you find stuff on youtube that actually works and is very well explained ;)
Thanks RSK!!!
Hi RSK and any other people reading.
Before jumping into the "netsvc" item, you need to make sure that is, in fact, the registry key you need to update.
So you need to first find "gpsvc", look at the "image path" variable as RSK describes. This suffix at the end of that image path is the one that will point to your folder.
Instead of "netsvc", it could be as simple as "netsvcs".
Following RSK's method (rename the file) AND adding the additional "s" fixed the problem. I hope anyone else reading finds this handy too. If not, I wish you Godspeed in getting the issue fixed!
Very timely post - this was the missing piece of the puzzle for me. Cheers!
Thank you bro
Read this as I was restarting. Luckily netsvc changes worked, revived an ancient pc
did the svc switch steps but didn't work - would move on to the next videos - but don't see any links
Thanks, Rob, for taking the time to post an easy-to-follow guide to resolving this issue. You saved me a trip to an IT guy, as well as saved me a few bucks. Please continue to post computer fixes as you discover them.
Ron Smith thanks so much for watching! Glad to help as always. And of course I will continue to post lots of informational videos!
This was exactly the issue I had. Thank you for the clear, articulate and easy to follow video. I’ll make sure to recommend your channel and come back if I have any further issues.
It has worked on Toshiba celeron I3, w8 2013. No secondary effects so far. The issue poped up after a dodgy essential windows update. Many thanks,Rob
Glad it worked for you!
Your step by step instructions worked perfectly. Thank you for your help. Not getting the dreadful message anymore and my Microsoft Office programs are running without crashing. You are a top notch instructor!
You’re welcome! Glad to hear this video is still helping people 4 years later!
This video really helped. You can tell you know what you're talking about. Intro could be shortened just a bit, but I'm glad I waited for the answer. Thanks!
I’m glad it helped! And thanks for the feedback on the video, I’m always up for constructive criticism.
In my computer this option is already same then why computer is not open what is the problem please sir help me in comment
Thank you, this showed the right way. BUT I had to change the names to "...svcs" (instead of svc) as some people pointet out in the comments. The comment from Nigel D'Souza ist very helpful. AND a shut down and then a new start does not work. It has to be a restart.
Thank you so much for posting this comment - I was shutting down instead of restarting... and had the similar issue of needing to use ...”svcs” Now my computer works a treat! ☺️
What is This Procedure Work in Windows 7?
I am using Windows 7 and i don't have any folder in name of netsvc..can you please help me out i have the same issue but in Windows 7
Thank you so much! The only thing is I had to do differently was to restart the computer, rather than shutdown.
This did not fix my problem because I have Windows 7. Do you have a fix for Windows 7?
Hey bro ....if i typed regedit or services.msc ....my device has alwas said that THIS device is not ready......so what can i do for this
This happened to me and I had a complete meltdown trying to fix it.....until I found this video. Sorted the problem immediately and I'm very grateful. Thank you.
You’re very welcome!!!
YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THIS HELPED ME!! YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT AND LIKE, THANK YOU ROB!!
That’s awesome...I’m glad this video is still able to help people to this day! I appreciate the support!
When I run " services.msc " it says the device is not ready. Please tell what to do.....
Same
@@adamosama9833 u got any solution bro
Another thing that helped me. Turning off fast startup through the power options. I found out fast startup can sometimes be the cause of an improper shutdown because your computer isn't completely shutting down when fast startup is enabled.
From one Rob to another excellent fix ,can't fathom how it was corrupted in the first place?
Thank you so much for this information. It fixed my issue. You are a life saver! Bless you. 🙌
Thank you so much, i've been struggling with this problem alot with no reason and it's slowing down my laptop, so painful. After watching your video, it fixed my issue. Highly appreciate!
I can run regedit it say the device is not ready pls help me bro
svcs, not svc, was the fix for me.
THANK YOU ROB AND COMMENTORS!!
Thanks Bro.. now my windows not showing the problem it has fixed.
Once again thank you so much 🙏
hey rob please help...I am facing same error but either services.msc or REGEDIT is not running or opening when i am typing it in command prompt. when i am trying to open local services it is displaying "THE SERVICE DIDNOT RESPOND TO THE START OR CONTROL REQUEST IN A TIMELY FASHION"..what to do??
Thanks for the video. It helped me solve my computer problem. I am very thankful!
hi, thanks for this video. it worked a treat, however a week later it has done the same when logging on. I have done the same again but the files are correct??????
Hi there. I hope you can help me.
I can't open anything on my Laptop. I can't start any program. Everything is useless if i power it on. The only way I can use CMD or REGEDIT is by using safe mode. I have tried almost every way there is to fix it. Dism, chkdsk, sfc/scannow, netsh winsock reset, changing names in registry, etc to no avail. The power was out the other day, and when I turned it on, Group Policy Client is giving me trouble. Until now. I don't have Windows CD installation or anything. Long gone. After each method I *restart* my laptop. Nothing works for me.
I don't want to lose my data. HELP ME ANYONE PLEASE
Using Windows 7 Ultimate
hi RSK i tried it sbut it said 'the device is not ready'
That you very much, very good video.Clear and great explanation of the problem and how to fix.
Worked for me on Windows 8.1. Thanks so much!! Very helpful and clear.
This worked for me today. Thanks.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I followed your advice and success. The laptop is running back at the normal speed. I've saved your instruction in case it happens again.
Many thanks again.
I made the changes suggested in the video. It worked for a while but now I have the same problem again. I checked the changes I made and they are still netsvc. What should I do next?
What possessed me to follow your directions is beyond my comprehension and I am still kicking myself. Please help me fix what happened as a result of following your directions. I am running Windows 8.1 on an otherwise trouble free Dell system. I followed your instructions and corrected the spelling of vsc to svc in the (3) three places. Restarted the Dell Notebook and the next thing I see is the system configuring or loading some unknown "new" device. The connect to group policy service message was now gone, however, I then went to Windows Defender and it could not complete a Quick or Full Scan which was disabling the Windows Defender application each and every time even after restarting the computer. I reversed the changes you provided and still Windows Defender cannot complete as previous to the changes in the Registry a simple Quick scan or Full Scan. I then scanned "C" drive for errors and it came back clear. What in G_d's name is going on? Please provide some help.
Thanks for the video but it worked with slight modifications for me
1.change the folder netvsc to netsvcs
2.after changing imagepath rename the file netvsc63.sys to netsvc63.sys in the system folder
Glad you got it figured out! Thanks for the feedback
Thanks. Rob's fix combined with your modification worked for me (Windows 8.1)
Thank you!. Same situation as William Simpson. IT WORKS IT WORKS changing to "netsvcs" !!!!!
svcs, not svc, was the fix for me too!!
Thank you!
@Repairman edited my reply, thank you.
Does anyone know if this works with Windows 7 ultimate?
Thank you so much Rob! Incredibly helpful! This video saved me so much time and money.
Great... it worked right away...
Just to share my experience, I realized this problem as my one drive was not syncing and it was not giving any direct association with the group policy error which I was seeing but not was not bothered as I was able to do other tasks, interestingly dropbox was also working..
Thanks again
Great video
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback!
Worked for Me. Thanks Bro.

sabeeh ahmad did you restart your computer after?
@@RobSomeKnowledge ys i did..
Did you actually use the “restart” or did you shut down then reboot? I found with some people if you don’t actually use the restart feature the problem will show back up.
@@RobSomeKnowledge yes after "the restart" it's working. Thanks bro!!
Awesome glad it works for you!
That is my problem but it did not happen all the time, when it did happen, I would have to restart windows and it would work ok. I guess the only way to tell if this works is if it does not happen again.
Update, no, this did not fix it.
I have the same problem. and I dont have the folder Netsvc or Netvsc
That was brilliant, thank you.
It worked... thank you very much.
Dude, you rock! Thank you!!
Perfect
