Mr. Robertus, Thank You Very Much. I had recurring trouble with this, found your video through searching for help on Microsoft. I tried all of the trouble shooting, kept at it. I watched your video 3 times, finally found on my regedit the Imagepath link. The string on mine was not ending in netsvcs, it was \drivers
etvsc63.sys. I made it match your example, rebooted and was So Happy it worked. My Group Policy Client is now "running". My computer is on automatic updates, so I suspect it was a problem with one of the Windows updates. I also now made a copy of my correct regedit to my backup harddrive in case I ever need it. I Sure appreciate your video and taking time for the great explanation. You are a Great Instructor, Thank you again, Debbie

I have never commented on a youtube video but wanted to log in and thank you for this tutorial. Like others nothing was missing for me from the folders you indicated, but just going into the sections you identified and restarting fixed the problem. Microsoft offered no help apart from suggesting i pay them £65 to look at the issue. Thank you for your clear and calm video, I felt like you not only offered a fix but explained clearly *what* the problem was which made me more confident to tackle it myself. I thought the speed was perfect for those of us that are not as tech savy. THANKYOU

Just had this same problem running 8.1 x64. I'd tried shutting down twice, but still got the error. Followed your great tutorial, but found gpsvc was still listed in the netsvcs values even though it showed Group Policy Client was not running. I decided to just restart before trying anything else, even though I'd already shut down twice and still got the error. Not sure why, but restarting it after viewing the registry cleared up the issue and Group Policy Client shows to be running now. I know it isn't a true shut down anymore with Windows 8.1, but it still seems like a shutdown should have cleared the error over a restart. Odd. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else has the same experience as me. Thanks again for your tutorial. It was clear and concise yet provided enough detail to instill confidence in your instruction.

everything you fixed in this video was already in the right place on my system, i didn't have to change a single thing. and yet the GPC would not run. i restarted after looking at the registry and it had magically fixed itself and somehow also cut the loading time for the chrome browser by like 99.7% from 5 minutes to 1 second.

Eugene, thank you so much for such a clear and precise demonstration of this problem. It happened to me on a recent upgrade of a machine where the Windows Update process failed a couple of times (I'm not certain why this occurred). What was different about my scenario was that all of the registry entries were present (including gpsvc), but when I edited the multi-string netsvcs key in the Svchost folder, there was a blank (new line) value. I received the error about removing empty strings. After saving this value, I restarted my system and the problem was fixed!
You have performed a valuable service in creating this video. You have my sincere gratitude!

Thanks for the video. I checked my registry and services and most was as prescribed, with one little exception. gpsvc was listed in the window. So I simply removed it, and then readded it, and put in a space (just because...) and then restarted, logged in as the admin and then shutdown and restarted and logged in with my normal account once more. In the old days, i would've been reprofiling the end user. So I'm glad to not have to do that any more...as well as add a new trick to my tool kit. Thanks! Good stuff, 4 sure!

Great videos for those that these fixes don't work system restore worked for me with three different computers with different Group Policy issues. Basically either you could not login(try safe mode if this is the case) or the service could not be loaded and you got logged in as administrator. You have to set to the date before the first error in event viewer if possible. A Windows critical update caused the errors in one of the computers

Very thorough and clear explanation, brilliant video, thanks; this has been bugging me for about a week now and I've never been a fan of mucking about with the registry. In my case gpsvc was already part of the netsvcs list, but deleting it and re-entering it resolved the issue.
I never seem to have much luck with Windows Updates, though I'd happily take this sort of issue over the corrupt boot sectors I used to frequently get 10 years ago when patching the machines at work :)

Thank you so much for this video. Following your instructions, I was able to fix the error (and keep my CPU from running at 100% usage and getting really warm) without having to go to a computer shop. For anyone else dealing with this on 8.1, scroll down to the bottom of the netsvcs contents and see if there is an extra space at the bottom. I deleted that space, clicked through the no empty spaces error, then rebooted and all worked as new.

    Dear all,
I would share my experience due to this group policy issue.
This problem happened after a sudden stop during restarting on a thinkpad yoga laptop. First interesting difference, that in the folder: Svchost the "netsvcs" file contains for me a "gpsvc" file..... so i deleted and made again.
After I opened my existing netscvs folder (because I had it). Here I found the other difference: I had all of the 3 files what you made in the video, but the name was different! Instead of coinitialize......., it was colnitialize....... so I just deleted them and make again as I watched in the video. Now It is working, thanks a lot!

Thank you. I am randomly getting this error. I have Windows 8, getting ready to install Windows 10, which I hope I don't regret. This problem seems to fix itself, or at least it did the first two times. I simply rebooted and the problem went away. Today, rebooting was not working, so I found your video and followed the steps. The word thing is, I had the gpsvc in the file where it supposedly should have been missing. After following the tutorial (where I didn't actually have to change or add anything), I rebooted and everything is fine again. Weird, but thought this feedback might be helpful to you or others. Thanks again for the excellent video and your help...much appreciated!

+Candis Daugherty I had this problem in Win. 10... error message and GPC wasn't running in services and greyed out so I couldn't start it. No real problems with windows functions though. All the reg items looked OK. I ran Windows update for a couple of hours (I dislike how you can't see what it's doing; spinning balls!) and then did a restart (updates configured and restarted twice). Voilà, it's fine now. Will it last? I donno. Windows is 10 is weird. It seems like they wanted to take much control from the user to make it what, _easier_?

Hi and thank you. I have been having the exact problem you described for 5-6 days now and couldn't connect to Hotmail services or use any Microsoft software (Word etc) without it crashing on me after a minute or two. I followed your instructions and was able to see that since my last Windows update that the 2 netsvcs Dfiles were actually there but there was a spelling error!! This was an error by Microsoft for sure as until following your video to rectify the problem it was the first time anyone had changed files/folders on this particular Lenovo laptop. So basically the files were showing as 'ColnitializeSecurityAllowLowBox' and ColnitializeSecurityParam'... rather than as they should and as you describe, 'Coinitialize...' (with an 'i' not an 'l'). I had to delete the 2 files and re-add as you directed. After a restart we are all done and fixed...phew!! So the question is...was this caused by a simple 'typo' mistake by Microsoft? Anyone?

    • @AndyB_UK
      @AndyB_UK 9 лет назад +1

+Sugar Doll +Eugene Robertus Thank you both Eugene and Sugar Doll ! The files were there for me too but if I hadn't read your comment Sugar Doll I would have missed checking for the same spelling mistake which I then corrected. However I still had to restart my laptop, (a regular shut down wasn't enough), so I'm not sure exactly what was going on but either way I'm back up and running again normally now and able to open Outlook etc. THANK YOU!!!
What a complete waste of time trying to sort this out and very frustrating if it was just due to a misspelt update by Microsoft, ggrrrrrr.

+Sugar Doll - Had same problem on win 10 home ver 1511- It stopped chrome from loading as well though Firefox was unaffected which is how I saw the tutorial. Pretty sure its a typo in legit software. last prog I ran before I noticed the problem was malwarebytes which is an excellent product so it may well have been another previously run prog.

This is the first time I have ever fixed a problem on my own without calling an 'IT Guy'. Always worried I'll make an even bigger mess of things. But the video was so well made and straight forward, I took the plunge, and what to you know, the first thing I ever fixed on my own! But also thanks to the comments section, the first time I went through everything was there, so per comments below, I deleted the 'netsvcs' key folder, created a new one, manually inputted the keys by following the video and it worked. Thanks Eugene and everyone else.

Firstly, thanks for the tutorial - I finally managed to solve this problem with your instructions. Secondly, in case it is of help to anyone, I too checked the registry and it appeared that all the values were correct - the only difference was that my D-WORD values were "CoInitialize..." (with a capital 'I') rather than "Coinitialize..." (with a lower case 'I'). I renamed the values to match the video, but this didn't solve the problem. In the end (and after having backed up the registry!!), I deleted the 'netsvcs' key folder and created a new one, manually inputting the keys as per the video. At this point the problem was solved.

Hi Eugene, thanks for your excellent Video.
This problem stresses me to the extreme and your calm laid back commentary gives much reassurance!
I find however that even at full volume it's difficult to hear all you say.
All my research on this seems to link it to a crash during reboot initiated by Windows Update.
In my case it has happened because I was using the Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB ISO of "Win 10" for another machine.
The tool seemed to have "hung" and despite even deleting the entry in Task Manager on my win 8.1 machine, it did not stop. I had to shut down to escape from it!
Rebooting brought me to this infamous message, and the main problem I have is that I cannot "Right click" any of my drives, internal SSD, internal HDD, USB drives inserted in any port all respond the same with just a progress GIF.
Further clicking results in "Explorer.exe" going unresponsive.
    Is this the same problem??

  • @mediaguy50
    @mediaguy50 5 лет назад +1

Here is what Microsoft suggests is the answer for the slightly different problem - Can you show is how to do these work arounds......
    Important
Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
The following workarounds can be used to avoid the error message. Both workarounds involve modifying the image build in System Center Configuration Manager instead of implementing them in the already deployed image.
    Workaround 1
Add a restart to the end of the task sequence list for the image build. Modify the System Center Configuration Manager task sequence for the image by using SMSTSPostAction shutdown /r /t 0 as the last task before completing the build.
    Workaround 2
Separate the Group Policy service into a separate SVCHOST instance. Implement the following command in the System Center Configuration Manager task sequence to set the corresponding registry entry:
    cmd /c reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\gpsvc" /v Type /t REG_DWORD /d 0x10 /f
By default, GPSVC isolates itself when detecting a CSE. This workaround will force GPSVC to always start in an isolated SVCHOST instance (and this includes the first start). This prevents the registration of the RPC communications in different SVCHOST processes, and lets Winlogon successfully connect to the correct process.

Thanks, Eugene! Helped me as well!
    My 2 cents:
    1. As many others here, I followed the video and nothing was wrong in my registry per Eugene's video. I shut it down, turned on again, and still got the message about the Group Policy Client service (and also not "Running" in the services.msc). I tried several shutdowns. Then I tried a RESTART, and problem was gone. => Sorry for the voodoo suggestion, but if shutdown doesn't solve it for you, try a restart... :/
    2. I suspect it's somehow related to the Google Installer process (the "background" update of Google Chrome and probably some other nasty automatic things on your computer). The problem in my case started with Chrome not starting up (well, it actually DID open, but only after MINUTES of waiting).

I already had the netsvcs folder with the corresponding values but upon a closer look, the "Coinitialize..." values were mis-spelled and actually said "Colinitialize...". Very easy to miss but caused major problems. I actually deleted the whole netsvcs folder and made a new one. So if your reading this and you have all the folders already, make sure everything is SPELLED properly. If not delete and recreate. Hope this helps

    Brilliant Thanks !
As with others, there was gpsvc in the string (in your example it is missing).
There was another problem - in the value name instead of letter i was letter l (ColnitializedSecurityParam). I corrected the name (in fact I was prompted to create new value with correct name) and everything went fine. Thanks!

Thank you very much for this excellent tutorial. I did have the gpsvc in the list in the box so deleted it and retyped it again. I also deleted the list of 3 items in the netsvcs folder and retyped them in the order you suggested as mine were in different order. All working well now. Thanks again.

Thank you for the time and care you took in addressing this problem. Recently, my desktop was upgraded to win 10 .... all seemed fine .... then this morning the problem, at a time least needed. You described the error screens etc perfectly. Thank goodness before I was able to make time to follow your instructions, an upgrade was down loaded .... and all appears to be fine. But if the upgrade had not happened, when it did, your video was the only thing I had to help me stay focused and proactive .... in hopes of saving the day. Thank You Very Much TLT

Hi Eugene, thanks for your excellent instructions - you're a life saver! I had the same problem as imgoodbackup below (I'm also running 8.1 x64). I did find everything already set up properly for netsvcs as you described, which initially made me think that your fix wouldn't help. But then I deleted the gpsvc value from the netsvcs Multi-String, clicked OK, then went back in and re-added gpsvc. After re-starting, everything worked fine (thank God!). I suppose just changing the registry entries, even though there was no net change, triggered some kind of refresh and it was okay.

I'm really confused. My group policy client isn't running. I followed all the steps in your video but everything was already there for me. netsvcs already contains a gpsvc value and the netsvcs key already exists as it should too, but still it isn't working

Hi, I have windows 10. I got the computer 3 months ago, and after an unsuccessful shut down this problem began to occur. I followed your video, but the gpsvc Is there, and when I checked the netsvcs that is also as you described, so no need to change anything, however when I check the service, group policy is not running and the start button is greyed out so unusable... do you have a video for windows 10, or any other advice regarding fixing this issue? thanks

Your instructions for Windows 8.1 were correct. However, all the subdirectory and variables were present with the correct values. All I needed to do was to touch them and then refresh the regedit using f5. A Lenovo pointer software called Intelligent pointer, failed hard after the refresh but that piece of junk has had problems since I bought this laptop several years ago. The Group Client Services error has been fixed with your help.

I have this problem. I did what you said to see if The Group Policy Client was running or not. It was not running. Therefore I followed the rest of the video. However, when I get down to the svchost file and double click on netsvcs, gpsvc already shows on the string that comes up, therefore I don't need to add it. I went back to the page that shows that The Group Policy Client is not running and clicked on that. On the window that comes up, everything is grayed out to restart it, etc. Please advise, as this problem has affected many areas on my computer.

Went to services.msc and now it shows it as running and no more annoying messages. Thank you once again.

Hi Eugene, thanks for the video. I have quick question. For my PC, the group policy client service problem occur to me when my hard drive ran out of space (when the bar shows red) and it's gone when I deleted files to make the space available back to blue bar. To be safe, I went to registry editor to check if under "local machine" -> "system"->"CurrentControlSet"-> "services"->"gpsvc"->ImagePath (the data part is ending with "-k netsvcs"). But when I try to solve it using your steps, I do see gpsvc as value data under netsvcs. So do you know why when I checked, the ending is not the same GPSvcGroup??? Thanks!
