Do you do 1 to 1 class???
Just for clarity-did you ge this early from Ableton? Did you pay for the update? Thanks
What I want from them for MANY YEARS is the ability to horizontally select multiple audio clips and then resize or fade them out! PLEASE ABLETON implement this!
facts!
also making hot swap for selected range of sample for example if u do drums in audio
@@owlalex8534 yes this as well!
I don't know if I understood you correctly but you can fade out multiple clips by selecting the region where the fade should happen and then press cmd + alt + f
can't you do this if you link them?
as a native FL user FL still has the best Piano Roll the stuff you covered in this video FL has had for agesssssssssssssssssssss
Love your work though
Yes , it’s more faster and easy
and u have in fl studio user midi scripts
Other daws have had these things for probably a decade by now too
There's one little feature I've been dying for... when I select a span of time on a track in Arrangement View, and then look in the automation dropdown, I want a separate marking (maybe a hollow dot) for parameters that have automation points BUT NOT IN THE SELECTION! Right now I have to go through 15 different automations to figure out which 2 are actually active in the two bars I've selected.
Great video I agree with everything you asked them to improve on. Thanks for the video!
Another great video. Thank you!
Thanks beautiful! Your video made me make up my mind and place a pre order! 😁
Amazing vid Alice, i'm looking for this upgrade!!
I wonder if they have fixed the "recording latency" issue now. I know it's easy to prevent, but it just makes no sense that Live has that problem to begin with.
for me, the visual feedback in the arp is the mvp here. plus sample analysis and the quick-divide-notes feature.
almost anything else can be achieved in L11 with workarounds (2 window-"hack", LFO depth fiddling, robust sample naming & ctrl-F...) or (free) vst.
shifting some sweet suite stuff down to standart is nice, tho
Your previews and tutorials are some of my favorite content. I'll never be a professional, but I always learn neat tips for my hobby time. Thank you so much.
You never know, I though I won't be neither many years ago. Nevertheless thanks a ton for kind words and watching my videos. ❤
cool update, but I really dont think you can say Ableton is the "new King of piano rolls", FL Studio had almost all of these features for many years. FL Studio even supports straight up python scripts for the piano roll, where you can build any option you want.
Plus there will be a new chord progression tool for the piano roll in one of the upcoming 21.X updates 🙏
the only problem you said there is FL studio.
the point is that in the past the only thing holding ableton back was the piano roll. Now that they have fixed that it is levels above any other software
@@user-bp1gx3qt3o depends on what you're looking for. While the changes to the piano roll are nice, FL Studios piano roll is way better still and imo it's even a stretch to call it "fixed"
I agree that Ableton is probably easier to understand and has a cleaner ui, also it has more features for live performing.
On the other hand FL studio had many more advanced features regarding routing, visuals, effects etc
@@user-bp1gx3qt3o what about performance?
Wish you merry xmass and happy new year..all the best from Oslo
Hey! Thx for always making great videos. I'd also love it for it to use the same tech they use for similar samples for tagging, but for now my solution has been selecting multiple samples and bulk tagging them. That's the fastest way I've found, I don't rely too much on samples, but I get it. A lot of people have huge libraries.
Oh & probably many people are wondering. As far as I've been told if anyone bought L11 if you got it from October 15 on you should be getting a L12 free update.
Stay cool! Greetings from Mexico City
I always wanted to open multiple projects in tabs like a normal browser, so I can navigate from one to another and drag & drop stuff from a project to another..
Great video always!
Those MIDI changes definitely are the best thing for psytrance music. Since it uses a lot of randomly notes, those changes can help us create patterns easily and we can visually see what's going on the MIDI. I use Rhytmizer (made by Jumpstreet) which is almost the same thing. Nice!
Agreed mate, the generators are going to be incredible… one of them is basically a “Rhythmizer” or “Auto Play” killer… plus the warp options in MIDI are going to guarantee a lot of mind bending psy stuff!!
If they only fixed the group freezing and the PDC (plug-in delay compensation)…
Also for all other types of trance it's a big improvement.
Uplifting trance also uses a lot of arpeggios
@@nicolasblume1046 Absolutely, writing arpeggios and chord progressions is helpful for a ton of styles, and for all of the trance & techno world even more!
I’m actually quite excited about this update cause I’ve tried all sort of controllers, MPC, Push… But always end up using the mouse, matter of preference.
only shitty psytrance uses random notes
Every 2-3 years a new upgrade with minor changes for that price?! Well played Ableton...
Awesome video Alice 💜
MIDI piano roll improvements are enough for me to take the plunge and upgrade. Currently find it a total pain to create melodies with the piano roll so this looks much easier and more inspiring. Search tools look like they will get improved greatly in future updates too
Meld and Roar look awesome, as well
I agree on all the comments! There is still a lack of updating the sampler to the harmor vst level! There is a lack of the ability to make colored markers in the arrangement window!
This is such a good overview. Thanks Alice! 👏🏻
Awww thank you Oscar! ❤️
I kinda thought the question was already answered when they added the pitch bend/slide straight into the piano roll.
So much easier than trying to math out how to get to the note you want. Really needs to be standard in all DAWs now.
So excited!!
Great quick review on the new features. I agree with you on the dynamic EQ, this is not a complicated upgrade but would make a big difference to most users. The Standard Limiter is another one very basic Audio Effect and long overdue for an upgrade.
Curious if the piano roll transformations can have an LFO or any other kind of automations. Could make some interesting tunes or even percussion loop generation.
I spent two hours toiling with Ableton 11’s piano roll this evening, and after spending years with Cubase, I was reminded why I never committed to it. I’m glad it’s getting some much needed love with version 12.
The way you make these videos is amazing.
I bet they've not fixed the problem that happens when you audition loops the playback stops when you adjust the preview volume. Simple thing but major oversight. Also would be nice to be able to EQ what you're previewing, like rolling off bass, so you don't have to drag a loop in first to see if it'll fit with the bass removed. Ableton seem to overlook the obvious small things that will improve workflow.
been wanting this forever
Thank you Alice!
To be honest with you, personally, it's a letdown from Ableton for me. When you compare it to the free updates you receive in FL Studio, this seems like a joke. I believe everyone needs to decide for themselves what they want from their DAW, but as a professional who has been using Ableton for 10 years, the new version doesn't offer enough to justify the upgrade cost. There's nothing groundbreaking, and it looks almost identical to version 11.
FL Studio alone introduced several impressive features in a free update, including AI Stem extraction, a Mastering option during song export, customizable piano roll scripts that the community can write on their own, text-to-chords functionality, and more. This is coming from an Ableton power user, and I must admit, it's a bit disappointing in comparison.
Totally agree ☹️
Ableton is fat and slow. Bitwig still doesn’t support Audio Units … thou
La verdad absoluta. Decepción
Nice job on the SCALE AWARE for projects Ableton. I personally was waiting on that feature.
Amazing!!!
Just curious, if you're using a second window, do you have full flexibility to configure them each independently?
Most of those midi improvements have been done for years with various hacks using native plugins. Really cool they have these features now.
I'm going to upgrade because it's $5 / month considering a major release every 3 years. I started with 9 Lite, and while every major release felt like a question mark, each one is significantly better than the previous one, especially as the minor releases continue to roll in.
hey ,nice and clear video , thx , and i agree for FREEZING GROUP , i miss it too.
Just the mixer, piano roll and global scale features are worth the upgrade. I am looking forward to the release with impatience.
Awesome... Love from Zimbabwe
These are some really cool updates!
This is so exciting!!!!
I love the chord progression function (stacks)!! Thank you for this insight Alice ❤
P.S.: also your recommendation regarding the new features (being able to lock notes while auto-generating new patterns) is great! You should work for Ableton 😊💜✨
How did you get your hands on it? I recently bought 11 with a free upgrade to 12. But I don't see an option to do that already.
This is ao cool!
Still not being able to freeze groups is pretty awkward, the greatest advantage of grouping stuff is saving cpu. But then if you put too many plugins in the chain you end up regretting not processing each thing individually and then freezing each.
Sometimes it is even worth having mostly similar chains for multiple channels just so you can freeze them
It is actually possible to freeze groups. Through a little Workaround though. Just set up a Compressor preset where the DRY/WET is set to zero, and the Filter section is turned OFF. Load this Compressor on a new empty MIDI track. Set the group you want to Freeze as Sidechain Input of the Compressor. Now draw a Midi clip on that track for the length you want to freeze. Freeze the MIDI track with the Comp and you have Frozen your Group.
It's easier as it sounds. Just in case you did not know about it. A simple button would be more than welcome though.
@@dreamlandsociety5842🤯thank you
@@dreamlandsociety5842 didnt know about that. So, Midi track with compressor set to dry w/ no filters sidechained to the group, then freezing it should also freeze the group?
freezing groups would be the ideal, but the workaround is currently if you highlight multiple things and right click then freeze it will freeze them all at once
Im loving all of the improvements. Very happy to see Ableton lifting the piano roll!
Im actually a fan of leaving AI out of the core DAW. It'd likely need some kind of internet connection and i do a lot of on-the-road production, so AI thats dependent on internet usually bugs out the system in my particular case.
All in all, welcome changes though!
Your improvement suggestions are incredible
What kind of mic do you have?
Mixer in arrangement view is a GAME CHANGER. Finally 🎉
Ableton user here. There is some good stuff for this release but I don't think it will convince the Hip Hop producers on FL Studio to migrate to Ableton. They already have the slice feature, strum feature, and their channel rack makes it faster to lay down drums than Ableton STILL (unless there is something similar to the channel rack but I don't see it here).
it's so awesome, wow
Amazing simply amazing
Thank you for the overview! Big big fan of your work
Question about the key feature. It will work also with synths like prophet 6?
@5:02 does the global scale feature mess with drum rack? (i.e. you have to use only the drum rack pads that are 'in scale')
MINd blowing !!!! can't wait to use it
Thanks for the overview! As for Live 12, I'm a little underwhelmed. The options to view clips and devices simultaneously and the mixer in arrangement view are definitely improvements - and IMHO long over due, because the lack thereof was just blatantly stupid. Apart from that, I don't think I would have use for any of the new features. Too bad.
Does the find similar function work for drum midi beats?
Purchased Live 11 a few days ago. Website said release of Live 12 will be early 2024. Is it really out now? If so, how can I upgrade?
I left Ableton for Biwtig and Studio One, and looks like I will keep it that way. Cool features tho!
she is limited to Live .... she doesnt know what other Daw s can do..
I actually used Studio One for couple of years and Pro Tools for few months. I tried FL as well but it was just not my cup of tea due to workflow. I started using Ableton way later.
Woah, this is banger update!
Now I'm even more baised towards enAbleton!
Not sure if the changes justify a major release. Different example: Studio one just released a huge update with full Dolby Athmos Producing, Mixing and Mastering. Including a gui overhaul to support that. New effects, devices and major overhaul of features. I mean check the 6.5 changelog. And it’s a minor update free for everyone owning S1 v6 already. Ableton implemented some randomization and a couple effects…wow. Still waiting for the much needed updates to make Push 3 standalone a device that at least feels like a beta version. Not speaking of a device with the money.
Anyway. Nice feature overview and some true words.
I love your videos and totally agree with the addition of AI tools!
🔥🔥Where can I find the Drum loop at Min 03:00?
I think as artists we need to be consistent on what we want from AI. If we want a bunch of AI-enabled tools in our workflow, it's difficult to maintain the position that our work can't be used as training material, because where else is the AI going to learn from?
I can see both sides of the permission argument, but I personally come down on the side of I spent decades training my wetware neural network on other people's music and I don't mind if my work is used. But I just make music for myself and don't rely on it for my living so that's a pretty easy position to take from my view in the cheap seats.
great first look
They still haven't implemented sandboxing of the plugins, which is one of the biggest strengths that Bitwig has over Live. I wish they did that so that Ableton doesn't crash so easily.
what is sandboxing?
I'm using Ableton for years with a variety of plugins and it crashed like maybe once or twice. Don't see how this is a big issue tbh
@@chadhowat3392 VST plugin codes ran inside a virtual environment isolated from the DAW. It protects the project from crashing when a plugin suddenly fails. It also allows you to reload the failed plugin afterwards. In Bitwig isolation level is adjustable, from no isolation to fully isolated. Plugins become slower and more CPU intensive as you set higher levels of isolation.
what's bitwig?
@@kpopbutlofi A search engine is your friend for that one.
Does Ableton 12 support ARA2?
I hope they have added a way to seperate the drum rack!!!!!
Amazing
Have they finally fixed the atrocious MIDI clock/external instrument issues which makes recording hardware with consistent and accurate timing completely impossible? When I emailed them about this they literally told me "its a bug, sorry". Really hope this bug was fixed because its my main DAW, and constantly having to readjust these settings has been really driving me insane for years.
Thank you for the update my man!!!
I have 11 and will wait for 13. For me the new things seems great, but are not something I feel a rush to get 🤷
should i update? soon as it hits rutracker
Would like a feature to work with the bar metering for pick up measures and things like that.
I've been having trouble with Ableton 11's user interface freezing on my MacMini M2. I'm hoping they've fixed it in 12.
Still waiting to assign a master clip in a track and editing the rest of clips just by editing the master track. Because if you want to make a small adjustment on a clip, you need to edit every single copy of it too one by one. I just don't know like it is the most basic feature.
what abt the performance?? i think it’s something everyone have been asking for since ableton 10 and the most important thing bc with all of this improvements seems you’ll quite good cpu power
!
ableton & performance and without sandbox stability...😂😅😅😂😅
CPU Spike is the Nr.1 theme on ALive website
They Bitwig'd Ableton. Smart move. Being able to customize the interface to improve your workflow is a good direction to go with a DAW. Maybe next they'll make it so plugins cant crash Ableton. Maybe like... Bitwig. I might have to come back to Ableton, they added all the cool piano rol operators from Bitwig too and the sample browser got some bitwig love too. Dam. Nice Ableton. M4L devices, here I come back!
we also need the performance from bitwig...
@@snubdawg1386 But not the subscription system, so be careful what you wish for.
yeah, the crashing is annoying. It does that a lot when I open spitfire
@@djnebuchanezzer in this case i recommend using cracked version ...hahaa
@@djnebuchanezzer You mean the 169 for 12 months of updates program? Or the $229 ableton update. With a subscription, it usually renders the software useless when you stop paying, not technically its not a subscription. And subscriptions usually make you pay monthly. AND, if you did a comparison of the features/updates you get from Bitwig in a single version versus Ableton, you'd see a big difference. Bitwig releases a big .0 release and an even bigger .5 release. I dont expect as much from ableton, just look at 11. They're on 11.3 and now 12. Bitwig has been crushing from 4.0-5.0. I think 4.5 was the mseg's and the browser change. We all find value in different places or just just pay for both cause you can afford it.
That piano roll is absolutely gorgeous 😮
I'd like to be able to toggle a single-click for adding/dragging a note (I don't want to enter 'pen mode' though) - double-clicking every time I add a note is kinda dumb.
It’s just ‘B’, isn’t it?
Bitwig s developer are from Ableton core team...looks like thay compensate that now and come up with fresh ideas and good copys of Bitwig features.. competition helps..
but hey are fare behind even V12..
I still waiting for possibilities ‘vol’ & ‘pan’ change in smallest tracks size. And group freeze, Apple silicon performance improvements
Finally a note splicing shortcut. I would be cutting my midi clips up in arrangement view to do this 😂
same yo
Hi. Thank you for review. You are telling a lot about lack of pattern (melody) generators inbuilt in Ableton. How about to make a review of existing plugin generators from other developers?
Would u update your courses to live 12? I bought few months ago
Yes I will make an update a bit later
Dynamic EQ = use Envelope Follower to modulate EQ8's node(s). I know it's a workaround, but it ...works :)
BTW, great video - thanks!!!
Youre talking about sidechain eq. It is not the same as dynamic eq
@@omegalitico No, I'm not. You can run Envelope Follower on the same signal that will further be "equalized".
I don’t want a ml engine in Ableton. I still want it lean for live performances
I am sure they can just make it a setting you can turn on or off.
Grazie 🙏❣️
As a long term user of Ableton coming over from FL studio a few years back, I hope they can get close to the workflow in the piano roll on FL, but I doubt it will still get there even with these awesome updates, unfortunately.
New Fl Studio user, after I used Ableton Live 8, you can’t beat free upgrades for life, ngl Ableton has some really, really cool stuff (dividing midi notes is one of those features) unfortunately you will need a powerful laptop to run Ableton with plugins like Reaktor, (I love Reaktor despite what Native Instruments has become)
I have to ask, besides chord stamps (which you get with LES), what else is missing in Abletons piano roll now compared to FL?
I thought they closed the gap considerably with this update. They pretty much took out a lot of Max4Live devices and workarounds I had in place to get close to FLs piano roll.
@@Maxion0090 I agree, they've closed the gap for the most part on the piano roll. As an Ableton user I'm satisfied. The one thing that will always make FL Studio faster than Ableton though for Hip Hop Producers is the Channel Rack for laying down drums. Its faster than the Drum Rack by far because you can just click in patterns so quickly. Even after seeing all this I still think the FL Studio Piano Roll menu is more extensive.
Thank you for the review Alice. Even though the new version is pretty much the same... 😅
I loved all the features, but the new midi implementations is my favorite update
I feel like this update is mostly just midi improvements that are overdue. Dunno if they necessitated a whole ass new version of Live
@@hrvstmusic welcome to capitalism
Welcome to Ableton - don’t question it though
@@hrvstmusic
Its great and everything
But charging people for features other daws had for years is kinda scummy
This feels more lika an update than an upgrade
I'd like to see a new GUI or expanded view for the multiband comp (something like fabfilter). I think the actual GUI of the multiband comp is outdated compared to their stock plugins
If I already bought Live 11 Suite, will I get Ableton 12 for free or I have to pay again? Please helpp
Time to hack ableton 12😂 bad news buddy
do you do 1 to 1 class???
Also a "Select a Random Resource" from browser is missing :(
I feel ripped off, just got live 11 two months ago now they want £143 to upgrade to 12
I wanted to be able to detach the devices and resize them. Like a plugin. No idea why they won't add this feature. Max devices can already do it so no reason why they won't. Those tiny devices are hard to see on a big monitor at a distance in a big studio.
Cubase for the win! ;) haha great video !
I have Ableton 11 suiite and the update is on sale for $183 then it goes up $229! A bit pricey!
Yeeess, I was waiting for an improved browser!
I feel like they actually added a few features from the ableton redesign by nenad milosevic and I am all for it!
All ableton now needs is hybrid tracks and bounce in place.
What are hybrid tracks?
@@jeremyformerlyknownastoken8218 maybe midi and audio same time?
what means bounce in place?
It has a new freeze and flatten function. BIP is
@@jeremyformerlyknownastoken8218 kind of like bitwig has it, midi and audio in the same track
