Man, but those aren't small updates if you're used to having them in other daws. So glad they added Bounce in place!!! One step closer to make me switch full time in April
LOTS of great new features. Bounce in place is definitely a huge improvement, will be using that a lot. Upgrading today, so glad I found this video, thanks!
Bounce in Place is especially cool when you are using some hardware synths with the External Instrument device. It's really easy to convert the tracks from MIDI to audio in real time. Have fun with 12!
Amazing video Thank you. However I discovered a way to use the tempo and time signature launch for each scene. Go to VIEW and select SCENE TEMPO AND TIME SIGNATURE and it will appear next to the scene launch buttons under the MAIN channel. So you don't have to type the tempo details in the scene name. Hope this helps !!!

Was already looking forward to A12 but did not realise all these were coming. They're all great. MPE for operator is something that I was hoping would have been implemented in 11. And all the midi editing tools are great!

@@BrianFunkMusic I've been with Ableton for all my music making and I still don't know of the key commands wish I did. Space bar is about as far as I go

Hi there, really appreciate your videos just watched 2 of them and find one answer and learned many tips in less time than any other live channel. Great job dude, thx for sharing!❤
Hey Brian! NotePB on Analog and Tension is here since L11.3, but Operator has it in L12 (right-click its title bar to enable it). The Scenes tempo and time sig boxes are still here, but they have to be displayed from the View menu.
What I wish Ableton engineers to now focus on since am guessing they were busy with push 3 and A12 is to optimize ableton's efficiency in cpu usage. With new macs and pc chips like 14900k going for less power cores and more efficiency cores I hope they impliment scheduling of ableton to efficency cores which are unused to take advantage of the full chips cores soon. I don't want to compromise on chip selection based on cores since newer chips come with benefits like thunderbolt 5 on new razers and higher pcie connections, higher ram mghz, cache etc. There is no excuse that it runs on old code because Cubase is ancient as f*ck and them and reaper have effectively implemented this. This would solidify ableton for not only production but heavy mixing and mastering which will be really sweet and just a go to for all matters audio because with modern plugins and AI features it's starting to take a toll on good old ableton and not everyone especially beginners don't have the budget to blow on a highend pc or Mac. Plus I would also like to see how Ableton will take advantage of NPU's in new chip to its advantage since now it has the similarity feature which I'm guessing uses neural networks and if such and likes of ozone master assistant could be scheduled there. Also Ableton live for windows arm early on would be nice. Overall I just want them to do better and remain competitive cause it is a great software
It's amazing how far the tech has come. I rarely worry about CPU anymore on a Macbook Pro M1 from 2021. And to think there is more power to be harnessed... It's a good time to be making music!! Thanks for your thoughts!
@@vincecrow4512 I’d personally like to see per-note editing like Melodyne. That would make it a complete daw for me. And if they would finally support multi-clip editing, it would be 100% complete 😀
I am reading a lot of comments like that but without the “at least they are here now” part. I think that’s a good way to look at it. If they tried to do everything everyone wanted the program would be cluttered, confusing, and full of bugs. I’ve always appreciated that they’ve been thoughtful in their implementation of new features. For example Live’s comping is so well done but came a little later than other DAWs. Sometimes it’s worth the wait!
I love Live but I'm seriously wondering why under any circumstance you would crave latency. Glad it's out now but honestly kinda ridiculous that this is a new feature. Great video!
Only thing I can think is for studios that are getting literally no latency, seem to remember reading something about how some musicians like to record with just a bit of latency as opposed to none at all.
That's such a great review of these new functions in a short span of time. Good job! I have a question though: I think I saw somewhere that there's a feature which allows you to click within the midi editor and press the space bar and then Ableton will start playing the track from that specific point where you clicked. So far I can only do that if I click on the arrangement view. Any tips?
Yes, it's if you hold option and press space bar. Live will then playback from wherever the cursor is in the MIDI editor. Another useful tip, hold Shift and press space bar and Live will continue playing from wherever it stopped playing, rather than from wherever the cursor is in Arrangement View. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Cool observation re bounce in place. How does the time taken for this single action compare to that taken for freeze + flatten in Live 11 on your machine?
Bounce in place is great. I hate resampling all the time and it only does it in stereo then you have to bounce it out in mono. I’m probably doing it the hard way but this is great
It is an option go to : View : Show Tempo and Time Signature ....its there! So may people complained about not needing it there all the time and having less room, so they listened! Now you have the choice (I use it all the time so I spotted it right away!)
As far as I understand, that is the plan. They really want Push 3 to last a while. And if you consider that Push 2 was almost 8 years old when they released 3, and all Pushes are still supported, I think that's a pretty good sign of what we can expect!
This as an awesome video, thanks @brianfunkmusic ! 12 looks like an amazing update, but there’s one feature you covered which (for my workflow) seems like it will be a huge drawback. Talking about Momentary Shortcuts. When I switch to automation mode or hit tab to switch views, I generally want to be there much longer than I’d want to hold the shortcut key down. Is there a command which keeps the shortcuts as Toggle instead of Momentary? Thanks!
Oh yea, it is only momentary if you hold the button for more than either 1 or half a second. A quick press, which is what we would normally do, just switches views. So you have both functionalities now. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in the video! Glad you like it and thanks for the comment!!
@@BrianFunkMusic Like starting playback from the piano roll playhead (opt+space on mac, ctrl+space on windows). You normally could only do it when editing a single midi clip, but since they updated piano roll, I wanted to see if they added it for multi-clip editing. (this is all in arrangement view btw)
Glad they finally moved the grid edit to the top right from the bottom. Back in 8 id get so frustrated because once you had notes written down at the end of a loop, when ypu right clicked to change to a different grid itd show the options to edit the note instead. 11 is alot better with it but its best just being up there. That similar sound shpuld be useful as hell too. Im waiting until 12.1 or .2 before I upgrade.
Good news! It's only momentary if you hold the command for over 1 second. If you press it at a normal, shorter click it switches as expected. It's very useful and doesn't interfere with normal functionality at all.
What are your favorite Live 12 features? Anything you wish was there?

Love it! Especially your two favorites 😂 Look forward to new BF RR super Sampler instruments ❤❤❤
I’m excited to start those! Will have to wait til the actual release though!
Thanks Brian - excellent!
My pleasure, Dave! I hope you and the gang in Portland are doing well!
Have they added a trim silence function?
No, but that would be a nice one for me when making sample packs! I think I saw a nice Max for Live tool for that though
These are awesome. Loving the RR even though I'm not super likely to use it very much :D
I'll use it a lot :) But you never know, it might come in handy now that it's there!
Thank you for your help!
You’re welcome!
I hope the Push 3 will allow for more SSD storage space and CPU power in the future!
As far as I understand, that is the plan. They really want Push 3 to last a while. And if you consider that Push 2 was almost 8 years old when they released 3, and all Pushes are still supported, I think that's a pretty good sign of what we can expect!
Soooo many quality of life updates
Yea! Little things add up to big things!
Oh nice, thanks for the clarification! Great playlist of Ableton 12 stuff!
@@macromicromusic My pleasure! Thanks for bringing it up too!
Temp per scene can be shown you just need to enable it in the view menu
Awesome! I didn't see that one! Thanks!
Can you preview from piano roll selection in multi-clip editing now?
I'm not sure what you mean? What are we previewing? I can check
Definite upgrade. I hope I can get it sometime.
It's got a lot of things that make it worthwhile! (In my opinion of course!)

HumanizE!!
the biggest for me is the first one, the latency fix. By far the biggest, the others just cool updates
Yea it's a nice one for sure!!
Hi
Do you know if there is round robin on the instrument layer? That would be amazing
It's just in the Sampler itself. Would be cool though!
Any way to edit start and endpoint for mutltiple highlighter audioclips?
Glad they finally moved the grid edit to the top right from the bottom. Back in 8 id get so frustrated because once you had notes written down at the end of a loop, when ypu right clicked to change to a different grid itd show the options to edit the note instead. 11 is alot better with it but its best just being up there. That similar sound shpuld be useful as hell too. Im waiting until 12.1 or .2 before I upgrade.
Great video thank you
Thanks for this
love this video
Thanks!
Loads to love but a few are like one step fwd two steps back
DANG. im getting the update for sure after watching this video. i really hope i can turn off the momentary properties of those shortcuts though...
Good news! It's only momentary if you hold the command for over 1 second. If you press it at a normal, shorter click it switches as expected. It's very useful and doesn't interfere with normal functionality at all.
So is there a good reason to have the “keep latency” setting on ever?
The Info Text Box says it is recommended for MIDI tracks, but I don't understand why!
