normally a casting director for a stage production has to pick between prioritizing a perfect voice for a part, over a perfect characterization or vice versa . This casting director hit the lottery.
Andrea G if you listen and watch you can definitely hear he isn't very musically talented naturally and had to probably work his ass off to hit notes and sound good look how much he's focusing when he goes for the falsetto in the first verse and at the end where he has to sing those high notes
He's actually one of the most talented Broadway singers I've experienced in a very long time. If you watch other videos of him, it's pretty clear that high notes and falsetto are no issues for him whatsoever. If he seems to strain a bit here, it's probably just fatigue and nerves.
Nicole S Yeah I can see that my bad I ment not disrespect or to diminish his performance if anything maybe he just plays the shy reserved character very well

I'm so obsessed with this song now I wish I could see the full play 😩 Reading the description I feel like I can relate so much to Evan, the main character, in terms of suffering with social anxiety. And he has such an amazing voice. I like the way his voice trebles which adds to the effect of the shyness of his character but who is also dying to speak out and be heard ❤️👏🏼 I could go on and on about why I love this performance but I think I'll just stop here.
The full show is an absolute spectacle to see. We sat in the third row and my god, I don’t know how this shows songs are so powerful but it feels almost spiritual
Just saw this Sunday. Unreal. Ben Platt's performance is amazing. The one thing you don't get from listening to the soundtrack is all of the dialogue that takes place, which is even better than the music. I'm pretty sure the entire audience was in tears at the end. Truly amazing. Go see it.
I made a lyric video for this song. I really like the message and it speaks the truth "if you're falling in a forest and there's no body around did you ever really crash or even make a sound?" because the truth is it is the people in our lives that give it meaning. Being alone is no fun.
Danielle Wilde I know. I live in Scotland so if I don't want to see a touring production, which take years to exist even after the show moves to the UK, I have to go down to London and it's annoying because the prices are huge if the show is popular, or was on Broadway. Also, I would still have at least an hour's travel for a touring company as any half decent one tends to only go a few places in Scotland.
Danielle Wilde It's already hard in the US to afford to be able to go to the shows let alone travel all the way to NYC it depends on where in USA you are tho I can't imagine how hard it would be in the UK..at least you have West End :P
Danielle Wilde Actually I know more than fifty people in the U.S. who are obsessed with Newsies, Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and more. If we are,so,ungrateful, why do we watch the shows? I can't go to New York. It's way too expensive. I'm grateful I have the privilege to even listen to this, so I'm in the same spot you are.
This video will never do justice for how well Ben performs live. I've seen my dad cry once in my 17 years of living and at the end of the first act i turn to him and he has tears rolling down his face. Absolutely incredible!!!!
I fell in love with Ben Platt when he took over as Elder Cunningham in BoM and made a straightforward comic character into a really emotional underdog character. It was incredible, and his voice was also clear leading man material. All the Tonys for Ben!

He's supposed to be socially awkward but then he sings like THAT? Whut. Cool kid in my eyes.
Andrea G singing in musical theatre is often the character's inner thoughts.
Andrea G if you listen and watch you can definitely hear he isn't very musically talented naturally and had to probably work his ass off to hit notes and sound good look how much he's focusing when he goes for the falsetto in the first verse and at the end where he has to sing those high notes
Andrea G but he never breaks character with his weird awkward moments when he's singing 😍 he's freaking amazing. Laura's great too OBV
He's actually one of the most talented Broadway singers I've experienced in a very long time. If you watch other videos of him, it's pretty clear that high notes and falsetto are no issues for him whatsoever. If he seems to strain a bit here, it's probably just fatigue and nerves.
Nicole S Yeah I can see that my bad I ment not disrespect or to diminish his performance if anything maybe he just plays the shy reserved character very well
I can listen to Ben Platt “ For Forever”
😑😑💀
Hello, audtioning for J.D. in Heathers, I'll be singing "Waving through a window"😂😂
Sarcasm Is My First Language good luck!
Sarcasm Is My First Language Wow
Sarcasm Is My First Language I feel JD would audition with Blow Us All Away from Hamilton
Even better, I'm auditioning for the role of J.D.'s mother
Hello, I'll be auditioning for J.D. Heathers. I am not throwing away my shot, because I'll make sure to blow you all away with my work, work ((Angelica...). You're gonna need lord to show you how to say no to this, because all of you will love me when you meet me inside. Thank you, I hope I will tell J.D's story just as well as I can burn people.
what have I done.
That small acting part ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Ben Platt you amazing brilliant man! *Insert Gaga describing Ryan Murphy tag* and his vocal ability fml
Marie G I just watched it on stagedork, it’s onlyyyyy kindaaaaa illegal lol no but it was amazing
The full show is an absolute spectacle to see. We sat in the third row and my god, I don’t know how this shows songs are so powerful but it feels almost spiritual
Evan: *is super awkward and can't talk to his crush
Me: aw me!
Mrs.GrantGustin ...i love ur username and profile pic...I'm also obsessed with Grant Gustin
Mrs. GrantGustin? Grace Helbig, is that you?
Mrs.DarrenCriss I can relate 😂
Just saw this Sunday. Unreal. Ben Platt's performance is amazing. The one thing you don't get from listening to the soundtrack is all of the dialogue that takes place, which is even better than the music. I'm pretty sure the entire audience was in tears at the end. Truly amazing. Go see it.
Chris BUUUUTTTT I CANNNNNTTTTTTT IM IN FLORRRRIIIIIDDDDDAAAAAA
It’s crazy that his voice just keeps getting better of the years
it's incredible how much his voice has changed from this performance to now. he's so underrated
he's the embodiment of an awkward boy in love and i LOVE how he plays the character so well
Evan is me trying to talk to my teachers and people I don't know man!
4 years later and i still come back to this every month
Same tho
The band is sooo into this performance!!! The looks on their faces are precious.
I'm so into Ben Platt. He's such an amazing everything!
I wish the movie was the same hair style as this, but I still can't wait!
They changed how he looked so much in the movie idek how that was possible 😭
the treblemakers are quaking.... ben puts so much emotion into his singing!a DEH is one of my favorite musicals!
I made a lyric video for this song. I really like the message and it speaks the truth "if you're falling in a forest and there's no body around did you ever really crash or even make a sound?" because the truth is it is the people in our lives that give it meaning. Being alone is no fun.
Laura and Ben are both so amazing at singing and acting!
Now I am 100% sure Ben Pratt is my crush.
The way he embraces the character and perfectly fits it in with the song is just so INCREDIBLY
That was pretty damn good
The guy behind Seth Meyers' right arm in the beginning is me
When you live in the UK so you can't see amazing shows like this and where barely anyone appreciates Musicals like in the US...
Danielle Wilde Canada here, eh! All the good plays are in America and you need a damned passport just to cross the border😫
I appreciate musicals.. I live in NYC, but I always cherish when I get to see one it's like a vacation for my brain. 💜💜
Between notes, his laughs and breathing proves his performance is accurate. I love it.
This video will never do justice for how well Ben performs live. I've seen my dad cry once in my 17 years of living and at the end of the first act i turn to him and he has tears rolling down his face. Absolutely incredible!!!!
I forgot he played Benji in Pitch Perfect.
When he hit the high note on “waving through the window” OMGJSJWJENDNFNNF I CANTTTT 😩😻
Canadians be like:
Zoe: you apologize a lot
Canadians/Evan: ha sorry
Yup
The Pianist is the conductor of Hamilton and an absolute underrated legend
I fell in love with Ben Platt when he took over as Elder Cunningham in BoM and made a straightforward comic character into a really emotional underdog character. It was incredible, and his voice was also clear leading man material. All the Tonys for Ben!
