    A dirty brown brick tunnel mouth, with a light brown wash for the grout. Subtle graffiti, but lots of Buddleia and sleepers/bits of rail/litter, cabling for signals, fibre optics, electric etc. My fond memories as a Carlisle driver are flooding back. Purple Buddleia and rusty rail sums it up for me!

    First thing that’s come to mind is a grey stone tunnel mouth with possibly trickling water causing a green moss/ algae covering, let’s face it in Scotland we always have wet weather! As always superb work on the layout and very inspirational for when I finally get to start my own layout… which is hopefully sooner rather than later 👍

    Hi Dave another great update and more ideas for our layouts. As for your question re the tunnel portals. Personally I really like the gritstone block type along with gritstone retaining walls. These offer numerous weathering and colour options which could contrast your other builds. It's a pity about the dvt, I've got 1 which will be weathered up to cover up, if you know what I mean, and I tend to use hunts couplings on most of my stock anyway, cheers Andy

    One suggestion that's came into my head, and I think it would fit nicely; a bowling green! There's one near the railway at Kirkcaldy, albeit below track level, but it's different from the other three corners of the layout.

    Thank you for posting another great update. Tunnel portals; All the ones I have come across either working in or around were blue engineering brick. These bricks are stronger than red brick, won't become porous with age therefor will not need anywhere the maintenance that red brick would need. All the tunnels I've known were constructed as tubes with a drain system built in.

    Dave a great update, really look forward to watching the progress of your build for the Western end of the layout. Bachmann 47 looks very impressive. Thank you for sharing the picture of the wire you use to replicate lineside wiring, I have been trying many different types of wire but will now order the type you showed.

Hopefuly that is something that Hornby will do for the future. - Nicholas.

      Thanks. Yes I’m hoping to really gear up progress in that area. It takes time to get it right but I enjoy working that way.
      Dvt really is lacking! Typical hornby of late. If it’s a steam engine they put so much effort into it, with subtle differences catered for. With anything diesel or electric they have a more “that will do” approach.

    To enhance the tunnel you could build the bulk of the tunnel mouth in red brick and the buttresses in engineering blue brick. To give it a vintage look you could weather the brick and add a silk varnish to the brick to imitate early glazed bricks. The glazed bricks would be used up and till the 1930s and be very prolific in the suburban semis populating the new garden towns of the UK.

    It’s amazing that a relatively small addition such as cabling the point heaters/motors can create a noticeable uplift to the layout. I’m a bit new to this feedback malarkey (😁), but a random voice in my head suggested something like a council recycling centre for the elevated part at the west end of the layout (I think I got it right). And I am in agreement with respect to ‘Greyfriars Bobby.’ The detailing is amazing. Keep up the good work-I’m really getting hooked.

      I’m totally out of my depth from the modelling perspectives. But my admiration stems from some of the perks I got as a kid in the 80’s as my late father was an inspector on the Permanent Way. And I literally lived about 5 minutes walk from the Vulcan Foundry-birthplace of the 22 best diesel locomotives ever to run on BR metal. So the Accurascale(?) reviews for the new 55’s on the market really piqued my interest.👍👍

    Another great update Dave, with the tunnel portal, how about stone, in particular the colour and style like in the Royal mile, and St Giles cathedral. One thing that struck me with sad images from Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago was the colour and stone in that area, also there would be heavier weathering and soot with the trains as well as from the coal fires, and not somewhere they'd clean so much usually. Scotland done the Queen proud.

Liked the cable troughing looked weathered before laying on the track bed! but remember cables are often are mounted to platform walls were space is restricted. for the new corner could I suggest a teeing of point on a golf course (never played it myself, but your home country is the home for golf)! a few trees slightly raised banks + plus static grass mowed within a inch of its life!! Hornby has its great moments (Peckett's & Sentinel's) but rely has to look into quality details of most of its products - sorry Hornby

    i would have suggested phone wire from work if you were still stuck for the points detailing, single strand copper wire with 10 base colours ,we get it from .32 mm .4, .5. and . 9 mm dia (copper dia) very easy to bend ect,i use it for all sorts ,inc power supply for lights on my 1/32 layout, batteries are underneath, and then a 3 wire leccy pole line feeds into it along the field boundary as its good for up to 50v dc

  • @guywilson187
    @guywilson187 Год назад

    Smashing update as usual and superb attention to detail. If you install any more trackside wiring you might consider annealing the wire before installation.
    The technique will likely burn off the existing finish but if you paint it before installation that possibly wouldn't matter.
    Annealing the copper wire will make it much softer and easier to shape.

    Another great update. I love the small details that you are putting into the road. I remember the attic that we had in the house I grew up in. I can not imagine how many problems with heating and cooling that you have to work with. I think that you are right in building the tunnel portal the way you are. Wish I could get MDF that thin. I just use floor plywood that is about 3/16 inch. Sorry mate, I don't know the metric size. Any of my tunnels I may use are cast plaster. I bought 1 from the store and made a form and now I cast any that I need..Don't really know about the color of the brick, but something i do is to ballast the track before putting in any of my tunnels. I ballast from just inside the portal ( where you can see the ballast ) to about 6 to 8 inches outside. This makes it easy to finish the ballasting when you are ready. I ballast inside to the point that I can see the track and stop there with the ballast.Nice back board mounting.. Do you like the Rock glues?? Don't know what the engine is but I like the one that is in your last shot going from right to left. I like these small engines. Don't have any, but I like them...

    Enjoyed the update as usual, I do love the 47 I have just bought a used one of the previous tooling, as I really can't justify the cost of the latest one at the moment.
    I don't know what it is with Hornby they produce some really good things, my S15 for example is really nice and ran beautifully straight out of the box and then they produce the DVT on which the quality is suspect which is totally unacceptable when charging a premium price.
    Finally given that OO gauge models have been around since the late fifties I cannot believe there is still no industry standard for couplings, I use tension lock couplings and even if they are the same height I still have issues with them fouling each other and sometimes causing derailments where I have used stock from different manufacturers.
    Excellent update as always although I don't model your era I draw a lot of inspiration from both yourself and Everard Junction, keep up the good work.

    I have always looked forward to and envied this layout. The skill, determination and innovation to produce a detailed model is admirable. THE COLOUR OF BRICK IS, SHOULD BE RED..... Maybe a reference to the overall layout might of been helpful. I am guessing that the 'new" area is on the left hand side of the main station loop, I liked the little kink in the track around the council flats. At least one corner of a layout and some of the new side needs to be country side... not sure what old Scot Rail cuttings used to look like but I am guessing it was pretty much wall to wall trees and may still be. I read somewhere that logging was a big thing/issue is Scotland, 18.9% of Scotland was tree's wall to wall. You may not be able to model in the forest but certainly just coming out of forest might work in the blank corner. Best of luck in the next few months, try not to spend to much more money on buying trains. 🙂🙃🙂 You could buy some tree's instead. Cut a section away from the back scene on the lower level and have a foot of tree's to film through. Honestly I can't get a picture of where the new section is and what might be possible.

Now I think I am right in saying that not a single product from here had an issue. All those Bulleid locos and the thing that stands out is the wood finishing on all those LNER coaches. Production moved about 5 years ago I think. Ever since then there have been issues. Look at their wood finish coaches now. It does not look like wood. It actually looks like runny plastic. @DeanPark  Год назад +1

      Hi , with the backscene that will be above the wall a rock face didn’t fit in with the ‘into the town’ feel.
      I really wanted to have rocks but it would look contrived there. :-(

    Good video, a good covering of all sorts, your line side wiring is excellent, I find it quite inspiring.
    I am just about to embark on a layout although loft or shed is not yet to be confirmed,
    Nothing to do with the layout as such but can I ask, is your loft insulation the silver foil bubble type ? and how has it worked for you? It may help the shed / loft choice
    regards John

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi thanks.
      The foil insulation is of that bubble type. It keeps the edge of the extreme ends of the temperature. And it keeps damp out. But it is not the full foam insulation that would work more effectively as I’ve got such a big loft it would cost me a fortune, and my roof needs a gap between the tiles/breathable membrane. So with the foil this leaves 50mm gap to allow air to flow.

      Yes, but as it’s an industrial area, I thought it might look a little out of place. I’ll have a look at the backscene that will do at that part and see what would look good. :-)

    I wanted to know why don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so they extend the new abandoned underground stations.
    Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into six cars per units and also having three Accessible Toilets on that six cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXC, Gardner 6LXB and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers?
    A Stock Train and also having 8 DisaAccessiblelets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it bigger and extend it to bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Train tunnel into a High-Speed train?
    The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Train line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 37 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project that is OK for London Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. Oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden Easily.
    Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly line and also build a brand-new underground train station so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street and also make another brand new tunnel train station in Chingford and could they extend the DLR?
    All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Six carriages three accessible toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains.
    Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to create more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and they can order Every 17 Octagon and Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique minor no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 117MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 117MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 16 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those fascinating Journeys Please!!! oh, can you make all of those Coal Boxes’ 16 Tonnes for all of the 117MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us, passengers!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are Told!! And please do something about these very important Professional ideas Please Prime Minister of England, Prime Minister of Sweden, Prime Minister of Germany, Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.

    your A4 don't look right with blue and gray coaches . How about have that train as a charter with MK1 Pullman cars and MK1 coaches chocolate and cream to match. your lungs on the points. If you're not using them cut them off it look better. The west end off the layout. you have a lot off buildings and walls on your layout. Would be good idea too make the west end countryside scene with embankments instead of walls so your tunnel porthole could be done in stone . something for you too think about . happy modelling 😃👍

    Yet again another poor Hornby product, this is becoming all too common sadly. It is unforgivable to have the coupling height wrong, never mind the lack of detail at the end. I hope Hornby is listening and doing something to improve the quality of their models especially at the high prices they charge these days. I look forward to seeing your next video.

    What will it take for Hornby to put things right? It seems like only 1 in 5 new models are quality and fit for use. Even though the pricing is way out of my budget now and even eBay sellers are asking too much for their models. As for the QEII who is at fault the seller or the buyer? Good luck with the corner project. As for the colour of the bricks, I would suggest Grey as long as there are some other buildings in these same bricks. Martin. (Thailand)

      They have gone (I believe) down the route of producing “That’ll do” diesel and electric stuff!
      If it’s a steam engine they will model every since little change from loco to loco, but they fob d&e modellers off with stuff that’s “ok”, for example;
      Class 91,
      Mk4 DVT
      MK4 coaches
      APT
      MK3 sliding doors
      20 year old tooling for the 56,50’s and 67.
      Toy like pendilino.
      They don’t take d&e seriously enough. They are losing more and more of their main stay models to the opponents. And it’s only going to continue. Until they actually release the future is not steam, it’s diesel and especially electric powered trains.
