At 17 I wanted a stick even though my pops was like you don’t know how to drive stick. I ended up with an rsx like in the video and just ordered my 2020 sti a month ago. Forever manual.
Nice man! I learned to drive stick shift at 25 by driving a Honda CR-V with a water bottle, practicing the shifts. Then I got one lesson in my friends Fiesta ST and it was like I had been driving stick already! Weird, I know. I went to the dealer the next day and bought my 2017 STi limited. Drove it 35 miles to get home.
After driving boring automatic for 3 years, I bought a 370z in manual. Damn it's so much more fun ripping through each gear. Even in obnoxious LA traffic, I manual is still better.
Joseph Shamon there’s a very big difference between a manual built for an economy car and a manual built for enthusiast use. One car I’m exited to drive is a manual giulia quadrifoglio.
Tremec USA makes the best manual shifter system in the world. Manual shifters are best in conserving energy and momentum when cornering and you still get huge energy/torque to step onto the accelerator pedal and throttle the car with that conserved energy ready at your disposal to race in a straight line after cornering. Engine torque braking is another reliable side when driving in manual shift... in order to overcome excessive over steer and excessive under steer.
A handful of people just care about the 1/4 and stop light/green light action but the SoCal canyons are the best for my S2000 manual transmission and not my AMG GLC 63. It is not the quickest or the slowest but it keeps me young😂
There’s something about a manual transmission, that unfortunately these days, most people will never have pleasure of knowing. I’m seriously on a hunt to find a decent Nissan 350Z manual, just so I can have a fun little car. Also so I can teach my daughters how to drive one, so they, themselves will understand why so many people love them.
Nice to hear that you plan to teach them how to drive one. In my whole life, I've sadly met only ONE woman who could drive a manual (she drives a lifted Dodge Ram V8 with a 5-speed!). All the others get uber-offended as if it's somehow a "crime" for women to drive manuals. I've been driving manuals for almost 9 years and will not give them up. Automatics are boring AND getting more expensive to maintain. You know those silly CVTs? On my brother's shitty Nissan, if the CVT band snaps, you lose the entire transmission. The band is SO overpriced that it's cheaper to throw the tranny away and buy a new one rather than fix the band! Ridiculous.
I've been driving manuals my whole life in regular cars, until the end of 2017, where I got an Audi RS3. With DSG trans as it was (and still is) the only option. At first I felt a bit lost, but enjoyed the power of the car. Found myself mostly driving it in manual mode. Then I started enjoying the car more, launching the car as I had never experienced that before, etc. And now for the last couple of months I am back at REALLY missing a stick shift.
100% agreed. I think you really fit into the ideal crew, you're awesome to listen to, just be yourself and everyone will love you like they love Brad ^^
I love it how the Honda part is an "honorable mention" when Honda, in terms of FEEL, makes the absolute best H pattern gearboxes in the world. Even my 90s 5speed Honda Gearbox feels better than most new cars. People that drove the Type-R said that throwing gears at it, is probably the most satisfying thing ever. Close to what an NSX felt like. And that's, a HUGE compliment.
Speak Like David well for me for example i live near munich so i learned stick but with all the traffic it just gets annoying very quick as shifting up and down all the time with no speed just gets frustrating but its of course fun if you can go fast. But you cant do that here very often so i will probably an automatic
I taught myself stick shifting. Literally. My first/current ‘97 Mirage is a stick trans. The day I purchased it was the same day I sat in the parking lot and watch 30 minutes worth of “how to” videos on clutch shifting. I stalled a few times at lights and b-lined up hills in first gear initially. Eventually, I fell in love with it. So, I’m all for stick shifting.
MAKSOR but it just beats the purpose of learning stick. I don’t plan to do anything crazy I just want to have the feel of excitement when I’m controlling the car not the car controlling me. All I need is a good teacher
I have never owned an automatic! I am looking to replace my 2005 Porsche Cayenne w/6 speed manual and 233,000 miles. Very good information! Check the 2015-17 Chevy SS w manual transmission.
I've been driving manual transmissions all my life and will continue to do so as long as it's available. If I have to keep buying use cars with a manual transmission, so be it!!
The Hyundai’s luxury line up Genesis G70, a gorgeous luxury sedan offers a damn manual??!!!! Didn’t see that coming. I’m all Toyota/Scion/Lexus fan, and I like the genesis models a lot. And since it offers a 6 speed manual, hell yeah that’s even better.🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Toyota Brony You are so right!! I also am a big Toyota/Scion/Lexus fan The moment I heard him say that the Genesis G 70 comes in a manual I looked it up immediately!!
It's rubbery with long ass gears but it's something. Hyundai didn't put much effort into it other than the fact that they offer it. I bought a 2017 Mustang with a manual and the gearbox was awful. Felt like driving a tractor. Still would rather saw off my own foot than drive the automatic. I drive a GLI manual now, much smoother.
T.K. Morris it would be a very solid build. They should have new Toyota President that cares for not just people that loves Toyota for reliability, but also TRD enthusiasts and love manual. And it would be nice to see that happening
My 14 focus is payed off in 2 months but its a 5 speed and let tell you, it very rarely disappointed me for all of its current 215k miles. I couldn't have enjoyed an automatic for a 1/10 of this time.
That's how they lured me to the dealer. Drove out the door with a gray MANUAL GTI. It's a hoot to drive. AND (Toyota fanboys, just shut up. VW isn't killing people with their floor mats like Toyota) is a reliable car. 35,000 miles and NO issues, not even the one I feared the most: turbocharger issues. Nope, none.
I bought a Golf SE about a year ago.SEL versions were unavailable. No manual Golfs on the lot-a 6 month wait.Just a few GTI's in colors I didn't like.As it turns out,the 1.8 turbo automatic with semi manual sports mode(as well as paddle shifters) serves as a perky compromise.
I know most of the cars in this list were more powerful and faster than my favourites in the list, but the Genesis G70 and Hyundai Veloster N were my favourites in this list.
I have NOT "moved on to automatics!" I have 3 cars, a 1999 Toyota 4Runner (which will never die), a 2013 BMW 128i (GREAT car) and a 1997 Mazda Miata (which I plan to KEEP forever), ALL with manual transmissions! I love all my cars.
I used to be a save the manual driver until I had to start commuting to the East Bay for work. Bay Area traffic is painful but at least now I have the option for paddle or sequential shifting.
Will drive manual as long as I am physically capable. Also the only reason I am not interested in purchasing a C8 corvette is because there is no manual option.
Its so interesting, here in Germany you can get nearly evry car as a manual. I dont understand why they dont offer stick in cars, when they are available somewahere else.
I have a 2013 BMW 128i, which, while not turbocharged or an M-car, does have a 6-speed manual. It.s also a stripper, with no options except leather, metallic paint and 18” wheels. And oh yes, it is iDrive-delete. It does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, while being probably the most reliable BMW built. I expect to have mine for a long time. I love it.
With all the cvt issues with almost every company. I’m surprised more people don’t buy manuals. The other nice thing about a manual in the state you can leave your car unlocked because nobody knows how to drive one. Lol

I just bought a 3 series convertible searched hard for a manual black red leather, love it, next car will be 4 series again manual black red leather. Definitely worth it love it on a back road blast.
The money pit series has massively helped with my knowledge of cars, I was already quite knowledgeable, but this series gave me the confidence to send it and swap my engine myself
Shout out to the guy with the fez, on a side note a “time spent” timer would be cool so we can see roughly how long it should take for different projects
I am definitely for saving the stick shift my sl saturn is a stick shift and my last car is one as well. I learned to drive it in 2014 with 2 good teachers even though I started out on the automatic.
I grew up with three on the tree and manual four speeds. I must admit, that living in the city, I sure don't miss them. Riding that clutch is no "blast to do" in traffic. Then there is the performance. Let's face it, F1 developed the paddles and transmission to increase the performance of their car, and it really does improve it. Hey do your thing, and if grinding through gears is what gets you off, then that's cool....but it's not my bag.
Another old technique that died years ago is 'Double Clutching". With no syncro's in the trans if you didn't learn the technique you couldn't get any gears in short order. Those were the good old days :)
My last 3 cars were manuals, and I loved them. I recently got an Elantra N and ended up going with the 8 speed DCT. It's been love/hate. When I drive it hard, I actually have grown to love the DCT, it feels like I'm in an F1 car banging through gears lol. But for daily driving, it's just boring and uneventful. And I miss nailing those perfect heel/toes. Every other day I change my mind on if I want to keep it or trade it for another manual car.
I love my manuals, but for newer vehicles...man I just can’t choose a manual over a DCT, they are truly a livable middle ground where if I feel like it to drive in fake manual it’s actually really responsive and for daily commute I get great mpg and do not ever have an issue with sitting in traffic. Pre 2010 I’m going manual all day. But now...😬...gotta hit the CVT and DCT, but I love all transmission set ups in the world today. Great time for cars today.
Yeah, sticks are the only way to go, and I'm 69 years old. People who drive a stick are more focused and more alert than the lazy automatic drivers. Worse yet is the younger generation who learned to drive in an automatic. They in general don't seem to enjoy driving and are subsequently poor drivers.
I use to own a civic si manual and loved it had an aftermarket market exhaust everyone knew it was manual. Then I had kids and switched to a four door Corolla with a 5 speed manual haha its quiet and no one knows unless your inside. I drove 200 miles in California traffic to get it. Save the manuals no boring autos for me.
There are a load of pros to driving manuals. 1. More engaging experience 2. Typically less weight 3. More control over the vehicle 4. Easier to fix and mantain 5. Drivers are typically less distracted and more focused 6. Easier engine braking 7. Less expensive; upfront and maintaining 8. Promotes less laziness and better, more precise coordination 9. Your car will probably never be stolen 10. Fuel efficiency used to be much better with manuals, and in some contemporary vehicles, still is compared to their automatic versions 11. Less electronics; less to go wrong/break
My future project car will either be a Infiniti G35S with the 6 speed manual or a C6 Chevy Corvette ZR1. It has to be a manual or I just can’t do it without it.
You mentioned both the WRX and STI (same model different trims) and both Veloster trims, but didnt mention the civic si or type r, and you said Honda puts 5 speeds in the accord and base civic, but they're both 6 speeds.
I'd always take a manual over an Automatic. Drove a lot Automatics from the last 4 decades and never liked them. Sure, "yOu ArE qUicKeR wItH aN DuAl-ClUtcH". Man, I'm always surprised that almost everyone takes their car to the track, racing against the time having something to loose. *irony off* Just for 10% of manual driving fun, I'd take 90% of annoying traffic. Glad my e39 5series runs like it did 22 Years ago.
Sebastian, if the "dual clutch, manu-shmanumatic" is so damn fast, why the hell does everyone with a car using those take longer than everyone else to move their asses on the road? Seriously. And at the drag strip that saves about oh-point-four second. They're going to spend a full two minutes texting on their cell phones rather than put that teeensy weensy performance difference to use anyway.

Joseph Shamon well makes sense now since majority of cars on the streets in the U.S. are all automatic
Cameron Vu i mean it’s been the case for like 20 years now it’s not the most impressive thing u can do in Europe compared to America

It's good to see the IDEAL MEDIA growing 🥰🥰😍🤩
Can’t wait to see this guy in another video Great Job Foo 🙃👍
The Sqidd's cool. Fit's the channel well. I for one love driving manual in almost everything, but especially with RWD. Skrrrrt
Stick all day! 2018 focus st3 stage 3 here
Yeah, sticks are the only way to go, and I'm 69 years old.
*Please more videos with this guy!! Simply 10/10*
two of my cars have sticks, 95 jeep wrangler and a 61 corvette, both very fun th drive
I'm in love with manual cars and motorcycles
I know this is two years later, but though an addition was worth mentioning. The Cadillac Black Wing can be had in a stick! Cadillac in a stick!!
There are a load of pros to driving manuals.
1. More engaging experience
2. Typically less weight
3. More control over the vehicle
4. Easier to fix and mantain
5. Drivers are typically less distracted and more focused
6. Easier engine braking
7. Less expensive; upfront and maintaining
8. Promotes less laziness and better, more precise coordination
9. Your car will probably never be stolen
10. Fuel efficiency used to be much better with manuals, and in some contemporary vehicles, still is compared to their automatic versions
11. Less electronics; less to go wrong/break
Picking up the 20' Civic 6speed hatch this summer, very excited to learn stick!
Manual 335i here.
Please save the manual.💪
this channel deserves a lot more subscribers
With those cars, it's just not the same without that good old stick, where you use a clutch pedal and bang them gears back and forth.
Learning how to drive manual. Love it. Save the stick!
My future project car will either be a Infiniti G35S with the 6 speed manual or a C6 Chevy Corvette ZR1. It has to be a manual or I just can’t do it without it.
If yall had less commercials this would be a decent channel
Not lazy just wanted Launch control
Long live the stick shift. I own a 2017, V6, 2 door, Honda Accord manual transmission.
*irony off*
Just for 10% of manual driving fun, I'd take 90% of annoying traffic.
And here I am, in my CVT Civic...
green1039 i have two cars, both in automatic, an Audi A8 D2 4.2 1995 and a Mercedes C350 CDI W204 2010
I'm so sorry....
Im lucky i live in Greece. 90% of cars are manual here, including "mine" (im 13. My car is a 1974 opel Kadett c 2 door sedan)
13 and u have a car 😐
@@jonnyb1187 kinda. My dad says it mine but i dont drive it. Im saving up for wheels. The car costed 800€ so that's why he bought it. I know you may not believe it but i swear to god, im saying the truth.
Ahh ok
I’d still buy a manual today.
