Thanks for the great demonstration of terminal ballistics, Matt. I really appreciate that you are openly learning along with your audience, including the consequences of close proximity to a high speed projectile impact when your 22-250 wreaked havoc and clay on everything nearby. I'm sorry to hear about the political chicanery in South Africa and the possible consequences to land owners. It sounds potentially dangerous. Stay safe, my friend. Jess

The South Africans are of the tribe of Asher of Israel. As are the Israelites who founded the United States- Ephraim, the suffering is because of a disdain for Leviticus 23. So Deuteronomy 28: 15 - , is in effect Today.

Easy to explain why the high power guns produce less penetration: because their pellets fly at a high speed, they mushroom much more, therefore creating a huge wound cavity and much less penetration.
You know why I like your vids so much? Because the pleasure and skill you show whilst explaining and shooting are genuine. And its contagious.

I have to say I'm amazed at the price of some of these pellet guns . I think the most expensive gun I own is a Brown bess and it is only a little over a grand . And it's a fire arm . The impact sells for 2 grand . That's crazy .

Yeah, I'd like to see a clay comparison of same power fire vs air!
      .
Put up 22lr, 22 shorts, and 22cb caps, vs the same power airguns. The 22 CB caps are similar to my breakbarrel airgun in 22 (~25 vs 30 fpe). I'd love to see if the clay damage is the same!
      .
He had two guns that rated about like the 22 shorts (70 fpe) and 22lr (150 fpe).

This guy is right about the fps cap of airguns. Even the bigger bore PCP airguns shoot at similar velocities. I think one of the common .50 cal has 92 foot pounds. But it fires around 500 or 600 fps depending on the weight of your round. So it's similar muzzle velocities in a scaled up round. The same applies to all the other smaller .cal and .mm sized rounds they are available in.

  • @andrewsmyth6027
    @andrewsmyth6027 3 года назад

just wondering if you used the same block of clay and resquared it? as i am wondering about the small pockets of air that would then make up the structure and absorb impact as the projectile enters the medium, (thinking water? dont know why) the speed and weight of the pellet obviousley has an effect as the cavitation ( wound channel ) suggests, so a couple of anomalies the altered structure of the clay , the absortion rate of small pockets of air, weight of the pellet against a comaparatively larger target, and the expansion rate of the head of the projectile, ( mushrooming), this latter point also asks questions about the density of the head of the projectile, great video lots of things to think about , keep up the great work and fantastic videos ,

Anyone that doesn't think an air rifle is a dangerous/deadly weapon, knows very little about air rifles. They are extremely dangerous and should be treated as any other rifle. That being said, a rifle of any kind can only hurt someone If they are used in a reckless or irresponsible manner. A gun is just a tool. Great video.

Not surprised with the .22-250 - in your "Enter the .22-250" video at the Oxwagon Camp, the ground squirrels you were shooting practically exploded on impact! Would love to see more varminting action featuring it. Also excited for your slug and barrel development; it truly would be a step up for long range airgunning and hunting, and I cant wait to see your setups and the results it brings (I could see it kicking up a fuss if you place well using it at EBR). I remember being teased with the Crown shooting the slugs in one of your Oxwagon Diaries videos recently, and have been itching to know more ever since!

Aww, spoilsports. Maybe they'll allow them when slugs become more widespread and readily available and don't require hyper-adustable guns like the Crown or Impact to shoot. I understand the desire to keep the barrier for entry low. The hunting potential is still more than enough to get excited about! Hi Matt, I'm looking to get my first pcp. Would the fx impact be a great choice for someone like me? Thank you

Great vid. Thx. BUT you should do the comparison in ballistic gel. Clay often acts as an Oblek...which is thixotropic non-Newtonian material, meaning that it becomes MORE solid the greater the energy that is being imparted into it. (Thus the 22-250 implosion). Gel better replicates living tissue such as you'd encounter while hunting...AND the penetration results of the different projectiles would be much different than your results.

The consensus now is that slugs are more accurate past 75 yards especially if there’s a breeze and the slugs, hold more energy when hitting a target. Many of the FX gun pros are exclusively, shooting slugs now. I can’t seem to find any kind of test showing exactly how much energy a slug will produce compared to a pellet at 50 yards or 75 yards. Is it 25% more energy is it 50% more energy? Have you done any test on this? If not would you consider doing any? Basically, it would have to be done using plywood, ballistics gel, and possibly a hog skull to see the penetration compared to a pellet.

have you tried putting your home made slugs through a tumbler just to give them that finish so they run smoother through the barrel should increase mussel velocity?

    Howzit.
    Like your videos.
Would the slugs used in this video work in a "normal" .22 Air Rifle like the Kral Puncher?
    Thanks!

I'm sure they would, just don't go over a 30 grain and you should be fine out to 50 yards.

Ive got a quick question, ive been looking at three rifles, the air arms s410 tdr, BSA r10 and weihrauch hw100kt all in 22, i just want to ask what everyone recommends, im not on a budget as im saving but im uncomfortable spending too much. Its for pest control, taking out pigeons, magpies, crows, rabbits and squirrels.
