I remember the days when it took more than one person to have a conversation. Now all some people need is a phone/camera and RUclips. I say this because RUclipsrs are so comfortable just talking to the Phone. Mainly putting on a show for whom ever might be watching, and having a great time, "by themselves". Guess I'm just old fashioned.
If I'm not mistaken, The bottle and regulator on your older Impact has a max fill pressure of 250 BAR (3625 psi). The new MKII has a max fill pressure of 300 BAR (4351 psi). You can even see that it's been set up for higher pressures when you look at the pressure gauge that reflects bottle pressure. So out of curiosity, are you getting 2x's as many shots with both bottles set to the same pressure (250 BAR), or are some of the additional shots happening because the MKII has a 700 psi advantage from the get go? For reference, see 13:59 for the max pressure on the older Impact. See 14:03 for the new MKII.
😯 WOW... that is bad ass...79 shots in 30cal...I'm sure in 22cal it's 200 lol...hopefully fx build these some how into the crown, I'm pretty sure that they are...good video , information, as always...
I’m not normally one to post negative comments but, I just wanted to remind everyone that due to the increase in muzzle energy, this would turn a UK sub 12 ft/lb into an FAC. Also if you have it set to give the same muzzle energy as before, you are still using the same amount of air. Don’t forget that volume inside the plenum multiplied by the pressure is the volume of air you are using at atmospheric pressure. As the reservoir of air is still the same volume and pressure, same amount of shots.
It is similar to reloading handgun or rifle ammunition. For a handgun (short barrel) you need a fast burning gun powder. No need to push the projectile once it has left the building (barrel). With a rifle on the other hand I use a slower burning powder. I want it to continually push it all the way down the barrel. Same goes for the air rifle. The effect of a plenum will be less on a shorter barrel than on the longer barrel (correct me if i'm wrong please). With a longer barrel you need more volume, to push that projectile all the way through the barrel. You do not want to run out of air 3/4 through the barrel and then start losing velocity. But also finding the perfect balance and not wasting air (after the projectile left the barrel) is also important.
Nice one Gile's , well explained , almost everyone even remotely familiar with airguns should be able to understand your terminology . Oh ! Don't forget , Even Experts sometime's get it wrong !, Happy New Year, wishing You Good & Safe shooting in 2020 .
I was anticipating it being only compatible with the Impact X Mk-II. Great news that I can upgrade my Gen-1 Impact! : ) Very informative and entertaining Video, as usual! Thank you Mr. Barry! : )
Thanks for the info. Been looking at an upgraded plenum by 2 other sources and glad I held off. This is what I have been waiting for! I found that with slugs and possibly Hybrids, when available in .25, I am not getting the best, most efficient "push" to achieve the precision/accuracy that is possible. This is even more pronounced with the 700 mm barrel. Went through the same scenario, with my Edgun Matador Long, when I started shooting JSB heavies. Now to chase this plenum down, based on availability...…………………..
This is some amazing information. I shoot a .30 cal here in states and did not see this coming. Wow is what I say. Thanks for the video you do a great job over there.
you forget that yes the reg is lower on the big plenum but you use more volume so you dont get more shots .it evens out.High pressure ,small volume, low pressure high volume you need a lot of testing to find the the golden line between the two.
Giles great vid and explanation and yep you are right both on the way it works and the fact that it helps bigger calibers more. Overkill for a .22 really if its a MK2 unless using very heavy slugs but anything above .22 its an absolute god send though. Lower Reg pressure less wear and tear too. As they get better we all have to be far more careful where the shots go and what's behind the quarry
Another fantastic video Giles, do you have any idea when these will be able in the UK for us general public I'm after one for my dreamline bottle version cheers all the best
you dont need a bigger plenum unless you want more shots count..... turning up the hammer spring and valve stop is what gives you more speed... FX is making a 35cal impact with the normal mk 2 25cc plenum because the plenum got plenty of air for it... a heavier hammer dont give anything either..... bigger barrel port is needed on the 177..and maybe the 22.. to get above 925fps for 177 and 950fps for 22.....and then the amp hp regulator 150-190bar.... just ask FX Sweden about it..they dont recommed power kits...
Bro, I can shoot the 29.5 grain HP Nielson slugs with my bone stock 2 month old Impact at 980 without maxing out my valve knob. 27 grain JSB Kings go well over 1,000 at same power. Reg is on 155 BAR.
Giles, could you provide data on how much power you could push the .30? I would like to know the max power so I can get a rough idea about shooting slugs. Thank you, and great video!
Your explanations were brilliant, Giles. Now what about an impact with a 500mm telescoping Smooth Twist X barrel insert , with .22 Hades and FX Hybrid Slugs?????? Many of your subscribers would like to know?????????!!!!!!!!
I started to worry for a minute until you mentioned it was FAC only as you hadn't all the way through the video. I wonder how many people don't watch all of it and end up in trouble.
Great channel! I found it from Rossi's IWA vid when he spoke to you. Can you please describe in a future vid what the restrictions on airguns are in the UK? Those of us in the States are curious. Many states have different regs regarding velocities and foot lbs, etc for hunting. Curious what species are huntable with airguns in the UK and on the continent, too.
Very impressive and well explained. However, I'll choose one of my .22 rimfire rifles any day over an FAC air rifle (although I own an FX Indy in FAC......)
Pondguru Not me! Here in the US , well in Florida and lot of other states you can buy any powere/foot pounds you want and no restriction in power, like in your country where sub 12 pound air rifle is the limit without a license. Plus the cost of .22 ammo and I hear it’s pretty scarce nowadays..
Giles most of your subscribers are in the UK and without an FAC. You should of tested it on a uk legal gun & see if gives more shot counts so less trips to the dive shop!
The presure low or high and whether there is a low amount or high amount meaning the ovaral size of plenum lets say. it still has to be set at the right pressure depending on gun, so with higher pressure depending on the overall amount of air the size of plenum you have, if firing with a short barrel this will work, with a long barrel a lower pressure can be used as it will pick more speed up, if you turn pressure up then put a larger plenum and left pressure you're likely get rubbish accuracy results due to much air out the barrel as pellet has left, the plenum works because although its bigger its not actually holding as much air because you can pressurize it, longer the barrel the better, so bigger cal and better results too,
"Nice" ... hope you didn't get in any trouble posting this !!!!! I, for one am very happy you did !!!!! ;) Much Love, Kimo Ken Hicks will have mine done soon :)
Will the new plenum be available to all uk impact users so they can bring there older impact up to speed ? No pun intended 😂 or will this be a fac listed part?

Not sure if I'm missing the point here on changing the reg pressure, hammer spring etc etc, I just watched earnest on fx masterclass, an he changes all the above whilst it's all aired up, others say you have release all the air to do this...

I am not a Lawyer, but, a liner for a specific calibre should be fine.....thats just my thought. Changing the twist rate or type or rifling is not illegal, provided the ticket you have is for a rifled barrel firearm. Again, ask to be sure, don't take my word for it. G
Man I just bought my impact mk2 a week ago. any chance this will be added at a cheaper price for someone like in this situation? I really want to shoot slugs.
Giles I like your videos a lot But in this video you explain something that can't be true... Same amount of air in a bigger space is less pressure. Think about a balloon? There has to be a trick in the device to keep the needed pressure alive (corkscrew-like?) Greetings from NL 😀
Great video! I have the original Gen 1 in .25...what, if anything, can be do done to combine it with a new plenum to get close to a Mark II? Also, I just bought a Dreamline TAC Bottle (dag-nabbit....grrrrrr....) and I wonder if FX would support a limited window for a decreased price for a plenum upgrade???? Thanks G-man!
Hi Giles, awesome video as always, I wanted to ask how the UK Firearms ticket works for example if you wanted to get an Impact with say 3 barrels, .22, .25 and .30 cal? Is it a separate ticket for each barrel? If you can clarify this for me it would be great. I have a Daystate Wolverine in .22 30ft/lbs on my ticket, I asked my local dealer about the multi barrel question and he didn’t know. Cheers
The law, as I understand it is one entry per caliber on your ticket, so if you have multiple calibers then yes you would need to have that listed. You would need to ask your Firearms Licensing Officer, some may give a variation that allows you to change. Thus, it can be done..... and it cannot be done, depending on force area + your history with them and then finally down to the Firearms Licensing Officer. Show what you want to do, and how it works, you may get the answer you want or you may not. But the law says one caliber per entry, but that was set before multi calibers really became popular. Hope that kind of helps. Giles
I just bought an Impact MK2, it should have had that option on it and the dealer should have told me about it. After all, it's a truck load of my money.

Great question. I think we need an answer...
Both bottles have a max full of 250 BAR. The new gauges read up to 300 but fill on the bottle is only rated to 250

Could it be that the lower pressure leads to a smoother acceleration down the barrel rather than a sudden shove at higher pressure?
The presure low or high and whether there is a low amount or high amount meaning the ovaral size of plenum lets say.
