I just sold my Tamron 28-75mm from this. I too paid poutine dollars for it! I literally walked in to the camera store and it was just there waiting. Totally worth it. The focus ring I don't find very loose. It is looser than the Tamron but I find it more smooth than anything else.

I was able to buy this lens yesterday from a camera shop. Its niiiiice. It has some weight to it which for video is good (less shake). But the image quality is something I'm still trying to realize how good it is. Its just different from my other Zeiss lenses... it looks... nicer.
I noticed autofocus is a bit slower than my Zeiss glass when it's not detecting a face, but not something to be concerned about.

Adrian Toothless 2.8@70mm or 4@105 trade, and the tele advantage for the latter isn't as useful irl, because it's still not enough, while the bokeh is not as nice at all times, thus 24-70 is pricier.

I ordered the Sigma and have the Tamron. Been testing them the last two days. With my copies it's hard to find a winner as far as sharpness. Sometimes the Sigma is a hair better and in some focal lenghts it seems the Tamron is a hair better. Autofocus is also pretty close. BTW, this is for stills. I don't do much video yet. Seems the Sigma is a little more prone to flaring from my test yesterday. Tamron is lighter. Bokeh in Sigma is a hair smoother. I don't know yet which one I'll keep but as of now I would say if you want the 24mm length go for the Sigma. Besides that the Tamron is a solid choice too.

I've been quite enjoying the Tamron 28-75, but this does look to be a nicer design. Personally I'm happy with 28mm being the widest as for ages I shot everything on the 28/f2 prime. Keep my tamron 28-75 and get the matching 17-28 or sell my 28-75 for the sigma 24-70 and maybe get a cheap wide like the 18mm sigma for occasional use.

Old vid, I know, but I just ordered this lens last night. Up til now I wasn't even thinking about it, but over the last month or two I've noticed my Tamron 28-75... I dunno, the only term I can think of is "degrade." I've never seen it before. Shots, hand-held or tripod, are getting softer and softer for the last month or so wide open (especially at 75mm) when they were quite sharp before. And a weird softness too. Almost like softness mixed with purple fringing. Like a really REALLY bad decentering. Yeah the Tammy is a "cheaper" lens but still for $900 I expect it to not do that, especially when I baby it and haven't dropped or bumped it that I am aware of. So yeah. Thought about the GM then decided that this was 98% of that lens at half the price, so I'm giving it a shot.
The wife is not a happy camper with me right now. 😂

Yeah you get a slightly edge on sharpness but it’s heavy, big and twice the price. I don t think it s justified spending those extra money unless you really need those 24mm

Have you had much dust build up inside the lens? I am debating buying this since it costs way less than Sony’s GM but I’ve heard bad things about getting dust inside the Sigma.

yes a little, not a ton. Doesn't affect the image though.

Is his af motor silent in video ?
If we compare tamron 28-75 vs sigma 24-70 then which one af motor is silent focused?

Hey chris have a question for you: How you make this thumbnail with floating lens? Is just photoshop or untouch photo?

Throw the lens and take a photo then go and catch it. 10/10

I'm very undecided between this Sigma and the Sony 24-105 f/4... can anyone help me to choose?

I love the 24-105 for the range of reach. With the A7iii the f4 is not that huge a problem but it means you don't get that shallow DOF when it's wide. I do run and gun, so changing lenses is a hassle, and this is my one lens that allows me to always get *something*. I'm thinking about a 24-70 because I think the optical quality of the 24-105 is not quite there when compared to the GM lenses. All that being said, the 24-105 has been awesome for me.

Do you think this lense performs on sony apsc A6xxx series well Too? I know sony has the 16 55 f2.8 but 24 70 would be a much better range in my usage and the price is nearly same

I really like this lenses except one moment which can be caused by my stupidity. You took one pic of yours with 1/800 2.8 and 160 iso. There is no way I can get as bright picture as you have. Even though I see my room perfectly and it had many light sources, pics with these settings are completely dark and after watching many videos and reading forums I still don’t understand where it comes from.

The Tamron 17-28 f2.8 and the 28-75 f2.8 together are priced less than the GM. So you've got that 24-70 focal length covered and then some. That being said, I'll keep my GM. 😬
