    The original Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN was a great lens for the price when it was released, but it has since been outperformed by some premium options. Now we have the 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art II, which maintains the low price but offers enormously improved performance. Does it have what it takes to dethrone the mighty Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II? We met up with Shawn Wagar and Raymond Knight of Verra Creative to find out which one is the best buy.

      @@CartyCantDance What? AF on all modern lenses doesn't matter who of the big manufacturer makes them is more than good enough for anything... doesn't matter if Fuji, Sony, Sigma, Canon, Tamron, Nikon, Olympus or Panasonic is written on there... 20 years ago people literally measured AF performance in seconds to have a comparison.... they stopped doing it because it's so fast that it absolutely doesn't matter and you can't reasonably conceive a difference

As an owner of the first version I was hoping for more direct comparisons between the two Sigma generations as to how much or how little the advancements are. Given Sigma’s history, newer typically means better. Let’s say I had to replace my lens right this moment due to loss or damage, do I confidently jump on V2 or would the advancements be so minor that getting a reduced price V1 might be the better deal, let alone a used one in excellent condition? Or is there maybe something so incredibly much better with the new version that I should be thinking about upgrading as soon as possible?

Other people have reported very strong loca on this lens. I really think you should ommit the test if you dont want to use a standardized method. Everything else can potentially be very misleading - and there is some evidence that it actually misleads in this case. I think you should repeat with a different test subject and correct the review if the outcome changes. Just a nitpick for otherwise stellar content.

    Now that we finally get focus breathing comp on the a7SIII and the A1, I'm going to have to stick with the Sony 24-70 GM II. Between that and losing the option to shoot any faster than 15fps on my A1 the lower cost just doesn't do enough for me. I do think the Sigma is a fantastic lens and if you are on a tighter budget is a great option though!

    Thanks for the video. Seems like a great lens but I’ve had my GM II version for about two years now. I guess if you want the best you have to pay for it but at least I’ve gotten a two year head start on my image creation. Sour grapes, maybe some, but I’m sure Sigma as learned from Sony after studying there best lenses. Will Sigma do a 16-35/2.8 that competes with the GM II to get you an updated holy trinity? I guess we just have to wait and see. Take care.

      800$ cheaper and optically both are more than good enough with each having flaws that are minor the Pana feels a lot more substantial though… and with that I mean heavier and longer… both are excellent lenses but I can’t find a reason that would justify spending 800$ more on the pana

    This has certainly piqued my interest. Ive been looking at upgrading my tamron 28-75, even though i love it, that extra 4mm of difference is kinda killer. Lately I find myself switching to my sigma 16-28 more often than i would like to even just setting it at 24 to get marginally wider. I wish sigma would put out a 16-35 idk why sony has a grip on that focal range.

      What do you think about the 28-70? How's the focus speed? Bokeh? Any noticeable color fringing? Even though this lens is, probably awesome, an even lighter option is also attractive. Also, any reason that you preferred this Sigma over Tamron 28-75?

    • @CartyCantDance
      @CartyCantDance 24 дня назад

      @@Daniel_Ilyich I mean it’s literally perfect in every way I could think of. I pair it with the sigma 16-28 f2.8. It’s so sharp that I soften my images in post even with a diffusion filter. I’m sure the 24-70 is better because of some weather sealing and maybe CA correction, but I’ve always had clients say wonderful things about my work with the 28-70mm

      Sorry to bombard you with questions, I noticed that the 28-70 has a step motor rather the linear motors on the more expensive lenses, how do you find the focus accuracy? How does it focus in low-light? Is it noisy? Promise, no more questions.

    • @CartyCantDance
      @CartyCantDance 24 дня назад +1

      @@Daniel_Ilyich never had an issue with focusing noise or performance. Like any other lens, if you subject is in a high contrast backlit scenario then your lens might not have perfect AF. but you can usually calibrate your camera’s AF settings to compensate. Hell I’m saying all this working on the lumix s5ii instead of Sony autofocus, so the performance is even more impressive

      @Bayonet1809 24 дня назад

      They are very similar in size, and would be almost the same size on the shorter flange Nikon Z mount, so if you think the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 is huge then you won't be happy with this Sigma either.

    • @robert_may
      @robert_may 24 дня назад

      @@Bayonet1809 It is slightly smaller and lighter at least, and considering I had two of the Nikon lens that both had a faulty focus ring, hopefully better built too. The main difference from what I can see is that the Sigma is a narrower diameter for most of the barrel, extending wider for the front element, but the Nikon is consistently wide throughout the length. I'd be curious to compare them side-by-side though!

    I'm much more interested in the Sony GM MKII than this lens. I'm pretty burned on sigma because of the dust issues with the original 24-70. Dust always keeps getting inside the lens. I have 3 other sigma lenses with no dust issue and a couple sony lenses with no dust issue but I'm still just not willing to but another one from them. It's too annoying. I also just simply need lenses that aren't locked from shooting at higher burst speeds on sony cameras.

    But a question: I'm thinking about venturing a foot into the Sony universe next year when the SONY a7v comes out. Isn't it now completely possible (or even better) to get a complete lens kit of Sigma lenses instead of the G-Master variants? I mean there is everything you need, 24-70mk2, 70-200mk2, etc etc. What else speaks effectively FOR the GMaster lenses? Best regards.
