      I think only canon lenses can compete with sigma in terms of autofocus stills lenses, but it’s like a 3% improvement for triple the price lol.

      @@CartyCantDance What? AF on all modern lenses doesn't matter who of the big manufacturer makes them is more than good enough for anything... doesn't matter if Fuji, Sony, Sigma, Canon, Tamron, Nikon, Olympus or Panasonic is written on there... 20 years ago people literally measured AF performance in seconds to have a comparison.... they stopped doing it because it's so fast that it absolutely doesn't matter and you can't reasonably conceive a difference

      @@CartyCantDance yeah Canon really has shit the bed on that whole image quality part though with like the last 3 lenses they released which are all by far worse than anything anyone has done in the last 10 years that even compared to some chinese lenses just lose.... If you'd have watched the last few reviews on them and took of your fanboy glasses you'd have seen that and they clearly showed the flaws in them with soft corners terrible contrast loss when shooting against the sun etc etc etc
      And in over 40 years of photography i have never heard anyone talk about Canon and Microcontrast in the same sentence... Leica and Zeiss are known for lenses that produce beautiful micro contrast.... Neither Canon nor Sony nor Sigma nor Nikon are known for their Lenses producing micro contrasts

The difference in the Canadian dollar makes the purchases of items from America a lot more expensive, plus the various costs associated with getting it sent to Canada. I really love the content you guys put out. Super informative and entertaining. One thing bothers me a little: the *change of loca test subjects* from review to review. Other people have reported very strong loca on this lens. I really think you should ommit the test if you dont want to use a standardized method. Everything else can potentially be very misleading - and there is some evidence that it actually misleads in this case. I think you should repeat with a different test subject and correct the review if the outcome changes. Just a nitpick for otherwise stellar content.

    I don't know if you moved the camera position a bit but in the 24mm example at the waterfront the Sigma had a wider field of view and the focus looked closer to the camera then the Sony.

    I already have a Gen 1 SONY 24-70 GM (bought used for $900), how does it compare to Sigma's Gen II? My biggest issue is weight, and original SONY gen 1 is so heavy during travel.

    Thanks for the video. Seems like a great lens but I’ve had my GM II version for about two years now. I guess if you want the best you have to pay for it but at least I’ve gotten a two year head start on my image creation. Sour grapes, maybe some, but I’m sure Sigma as learned from Sony after studying there best lenses. Will Sigma do a 16-35/2.8 that competes with the GM II to get you an updated holy trinity? I guess we just have to wait and see. Take care.

    This has certainly piqued my interest. Ive been looking at upgrading my tamron 28-75, even though i love it, that extra 4mm of difference is kinda killer. Lately I find myself switching to my sigma 16-28 more often than i would like to even just setting it at 24 to get marginally wider. I wish sigma would put out a 16-35 idk why sony has a grip on that focal range.

    Question regarding focus breathing. Did you compare focus breathing with the focus breathing compensation turned on for both lenses?

      Breathing compensation does not work with 3rd party lenses. It was disabled on the Sony GMII.

    I'm much more interested in the Sony GM MKII than this lens. I'm pretty burned on sigma because of the dust issues with the original 24-70. Dust always keeps getting inside the lens. I have 3 other sigma lenses with no dust issue and a couple sony lenses with no dust issue but I'm still just not willing to but another one from them. It's too annoying. I also just simply need lenses that aren't locked from shooting at higher burst speeds on sony cameras.

    In Australia the price of sony 24 70 gm ii vs sigma 24 70 art m2 is only 300 different
    Most say half price.

    • @VaHe2KG
      @VaHe2KG 3 месяца назад

      Australia is not the world, maybe that's why people say "most", because that is the case.
      Example germany: 1300 vs 2300€ which is close to half price.

    I'd really like to see this come to the Z-mount at some point. Nikon's offering is hugely expensive and hugely huge.

    • @Bayonet1809
      @Bayonet1809 6 месяцев назад

      They are very similar in size, and would be almost the same size on the shorter flange Nikon Z mount, so if you think the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 is huge then you won't be happy with this Sigma either.

    • @robert_may
      @robert_may 6 месяцев назад

      @@Bayonet1809 It is slightly smaller and lighter at least, and considering I had two of the Nikon lens that both had a faulty focus ring, hopefully better built too. The main difference from what I can see is that the Sigma is a narrower diameter for most of the barrel, extending wider for the front element, but the Nikon is consistently wide throughout the length. I'd be curious to compare them side-by-side though!
