I like how they made this one of the most iconic masks by just spray painting it white and cutting the eyelids and sideburns. Quite ingenious and cheap. Never ceases to amaze me how costumes and props can be a huge range of expensive to cheap as dirt and at the same time varying in range of intricacy and simplicity.
BlitzWalker That’s Mega Corps. for ya! They like to cut corners any way possible while the more smaller, independent makers take their time to craft such masterpiece classics that we so rarely and inconsistently see from time to time.
To accomplish the dead eye look and to make it look authentic was relatively simple. I took a real metal hanger and straightened it out. Once I got it straight I carefully jabbed the tip into my right eye. Once it healed and I was out of the hospital it looked very white and milky. Be careful because as I did I poked the wrong eye out. Now I can poke out my left eye and do a dead on Michael Myers at end of Halloween II.
John Carpenters girlfriend (Deborah hill) kept it under her bed for years and didn't take care of it and also she was a chain smoker so the mask naturally yellowed over time.. she is to blame for destroying the mask
@@TurkeysLeg She did keep it under her bed for a couple years, until it was reused to film Halloween II. But after filming was done, stunt performer Dick Warlock was allowed to keep the mask, along with the coveralls and boots he wore during production, as he was told by the filmmakers "we're never doing another one with him (Michael Myers) again." The pic Chris shows was taken very recently after Dick gave the mask to a collector who ran a haunted attraction at which Dick did appearances for. Latex decays and rots over time, it's not sturdy. However, you can keep it in good shape (hehe) if you take great care of it by properly storing and maintaining it. It doesn't seem that Mr. Warlock took great efforts to preserve the mask, he probably just kept it in a box in a closet somewhere.
very detailed. This is for the person who wants to stand out at the party where theres 10 people dressed as Michael with clothing/props from party city and boots from payless. GREAT JOB! ive been Michael every year since i was in 7th grade lol even won a few trophies.
I also have long hair. When I wear my Micheal Myers mask it's a bit difficult to hide my hair. I don't know how they did that in the Rob Zombie Movies.
I'm a member of the RPF, and I have to say this is a very excellent breakdown of all the items for this cosplay, as well for the original costume in the first film.
Gohstface is probably even cheaper to get an accurate cosplay, while Jason needs prosthetics to get his head like in the movies, Gohstface the only thing that will cost some money is a Buck120 knife prop, the whole costume itself is like 20-50$ (depending on retailer) and the rest you probably have at home (maybe not the black leather gloves).
When you read and showed the undershirt I did a double take.. I have the exact same shirt in that color and have for years. It’s one of my favorite plain shirts to wear haha
in 1978 the mask was a don post studios william shatner mask made in 1975 and was then spray painted appliance white, cut the eyes, teared off the side burns and eyebrows then spray painted the hair a darker brownish black.
I used your hairline method on my recently purchased 78' Shape from ToTs and holy hell it made it a million times more intimidating. Thank you a million for teaching us the trick!!
They dropped the ball where the knife is concerned in this movie. The 8" blade is a bit of a let down, they could have at least went with a 10" blade. That 12" patina'd carbon steel blade of the Case large chef / carver used in the first movie just has a much more menacing look. But I'm partial to vintage carbon cutlery anyways, from the kitchen to the belt or in my pocket that's what I prefer.
Michael actually uses the Case knife (Or similar) in the new film - when he impales Dave's head to the kitchen wall. You can see Vicky washing the knife in the sink as a bit of foreshadowing.
Right? He just peels it off like a skin? I've tried the dremel method and it just wears the paint away in spots and whatever's left on the mask doesn't exactly peel off at all! I've even tried lacquer thinner and that original paint isn't going anywhere! I would love to get the original paint off so that all the those details are fresh and don't just get filled up with fresh paint. Send help!
My advice is to get a little peel of latex coming off, such as when you pull off a piece of hair near the neck, and then peel the rest off with your hand by hand, it can be hell though, so beware
This is why I chose to dress as ‘78 Michael, easier to find. I’m also the same height as Nick Castle when he was in Halloween. So, ya know. Seemed like it was meant to be.
Hey Chris, love the video!! This isn't related but I had a question, how can I weather a suede jacket without damaging it? I know suede is fragile and I don't want to ruin a $100 plus jacket
Bought myself the navy blue coveralls and they actually look pretty acute to the movies and the figures I own. I’m doing some sun bleaching, worn them in the yard and have already run them through the wash a few times, sandpaper distressing and put a couple holes in it to represent stabs/gunshots.
Yoo Chris, i just ordered the Trick or Treat Studio's 2018 Mask! So hyped about it. I'll be Michael for Halloween. Quick question btw how big is your head in inches and how does te mask fit you?
Another awesome costume! I think one final feature that would really make the mask would be a black see-through fabric that you could glue to the inside of the mask for the eyes, as Michael Myers' mask has pure black eye holes. Was a fantastic costume nonetheless.
Maybe when you see him in the dark he has pure black eye holes. Definitely not in the light though. Chis's eyes were so vivid because his lighting was right in front of him. If the lighting was only right above him in a dimly lit room then the eye holes would look much darker and creepier. You have an interesting idea, I would just hate to see him turn this screen accurate mask into something ridiculous
The mask looks great while on display but once you put it on i noticed that it looks like it bitting it lower lip and it was weird instead of scaring it look like it was looking to tease and take a picture or something.
I have everything but the boots and knife. I am just happy i am not the only one alone that missed on the boots which i still need and as far as coveralls go i have washed them many times (double duty as Haunt coveralls)
i made higer heels inside the shoes..works perfect..if u wanna be taller..the hanh shoulders a bit more down..on yr head a cut out hat so the mask fits better if the mask is a bitbigger sculpted..underneath a big loose joggong pants and a undershirt thick with sleeves and the undershirt grayish on top of it..
The thing I dislike most about the H20 mask is the fact you can see Michael’s eyes too much. I love this mask so much because Michael Myers doesn’t just look like a man in a mask... he looks like an entity, with nothing behind the mask, no emotion, no nothing. It’s creepy, and I love it.
Interesting that you found the make of the knife. When I was at the H40 convention, that actual question was asked and no one on the panel knew the make of the knife. You must have looked hard.
Great video man! Just wondering, where did you get your coveralls? I know you said you can find them on most safety sites but I can’t find any sites with the right color.
Hey Chris love your channel, just subbed. Was wondering, what sheen of oil paint did you use for your undercoat. Flat, satin, or glossy. Also did you seal the final piece?

Man i hate seeing that happend to the original mask but not all things last forever and plus this video was great chris
At least it can still loom spoopy in its old age
Dr. Loomis You’re right, Loomis.
Its literally the same mask but with a worn out look tbh its better than the original.

Yet another great cosplay! It was also really interesting learning about how the original mask was made
I love how you went from being a serious iconic killer to a dancing killer😂😂😂😂that had me dying!!
The whole point is to have you dead one way or another lol
I love those coveralls.. i've been wearing red kaps, and keeping an eye out for vintage big macs, but these look like the best
Michael Myers; hands down the most iconic/cheapest character you can dress up as..well Jason too.
I wouldn't say cheapest.

that model session was deeply unsettling in none of the typical halloween ways

Could you maybe try and recreate the movie poster of michael looking down?
For one of your next costume series you should do Arthur Morgan from red dead redemption 2
Here’s a tip that makes all the difference. Sow black netting over the eyes from the back. Gives that hollow, soulless feel.

@@deterrencedbeat I think he means a repaint, I could be wrong though
That video was pretty dope. But do you protect the paint from coming off when you wear it?
It should have been mixed with liquid latex, and that would have made it much more flexible, allowing for massive amount of movement
I saw a cosplay where the guy put a black eyeshadow around his eyes to give his eyes a more cold and dead look, also great video👍
For the coveralls, would you recommend a long or regular fit? Awesome video, Chris! 😀
I like how he lifts up the collar too, seems “cool” and more menacing
This looks amazing. Spot on work!
And that knife is still as sharp today, as it was back then.
Awesome as always Brother! Thanks for another great and very informative video! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
The boots are my favourite part of the cosplay!
Hey Chris, just wondering......what was the ratio of rubber cement to oil paint and thinners did you use. Also did you use plain white oil paint?
That looks so ACCURATE to the film
I personally like my Myers masks to have blacked out eyes but that mask is beautiful enough for me to get over it
If you want a James Jude Courtneys Mike mask look just add some Velcro to the back of the neck
