- My rehaul of a Trick or Treat Studios Halloween 2018 H40 Michael Myers mask. This is my first rehaul ever and though it isn't 100% accurate, I thought it would be fun to share my experience. With that said, this isn't exactly a tutorial or how-to video either. Also, I ultimately went for more of a weathered, grittier look, but I am satisfied with the outcome. This whole process was really fun and I learned a lot along the way, but definitely feel free to leave feedback.

I just wanted to say that I 'm also flattered to see the rehaul requests. However, I don't feel comfortable working on masks for other people just yet and I'd like to improve my skills. I made a lot of mistakes behind the scenes and it took quite a bit of time to finish this mask (especially with it being my first one). If I can significantly improve, I'll let everyone know if this is work I'll take on in the future!

this is the first Myers rehaul that i've seen that actually terrified me. Of course on a first viewing of Halloween you're bound to be scared at least a little, but no mask has ever sold me on the boogeyman quite like this one. It is truely terrifying. The hair could be a little darker though,

This mask is Perfect, like the details, coloring and style are well done. I would but this 👍🏼
End result looks really good! I like that you covered some of the things that went wrong and how you addressed them as there are tons of ways people do this and a lot of it is trial and error
I've seen a couple very good masks but this is definitely one of the best rehauls I've seen! I'd surely would love get a rehaul like this from you. You captured the details so well. When I saw the rehaul especially the colors I immediately thought of the poster showing the close up of the mask.

@@s00perproject84 Hey can't help but to recognize talent lol. Any chance you're taking orders on rehauls? I would love to have one done. The only concern would be finding one that was of the original 2018 pulls. The current masks for for whatever reason are smaller pulls.

I cant remember how I did mine exactly. But I tried a few different things. The one I felt worked best (if I can remember right) was painting the whole mask black from the get go. The black paint will fill the crevices and details. Then use paint thinner and wipe the whole mask off with a towel. The black will stay in the crevices when you do this. So you wont need to use a brush to fill them in. Then paint whatever shade of white to your choosing and again use thinner wiping around the details/crevices. Yours looks really good for a 1st time out! My only critique would be next time go for a brown/yellow/green tint for the shading on the lips and nose. Other then that great job!
Thank you! I have seen this done somewhere and I actually want to try this technique also. The result looked really good. I was also thinking that I could've gotten some more nasty yellows/greens on there, but there's next time haha.

if you don't use distilled water the ph balance mixture with the latex will cause chunks to develop
Thanks for the heads up. I did recall reading that somewhere, but in my haste I used purified water lol. Probably would've had an easier time with the paint had I not done that.
Looks amazing! What can I do without an airbrush kit? Hand paint it white ,or cream… or would that go on too thick?

Nice recovery - I suggest for your subtle details, use a sharp ordinary graphite pencil ... it's also perfect for any additional subtle shading.
Remember that on this particular Mask Overhaul, shine of any kind is Bad... even in cracks & crevices.

I’ve never repainted a mask but I’m quite creative and love art so once I get my 2018 trick or treat studios mask I’ll definitely follow some of the tips you gave. The mass produced mask is hideous 😭😭
I think you make a really good interpretation of how the mask would have actually aged -- better than the one in the film, I think. Your decision to add a darkened look around the eyes, the tip of the nose and nostrils and around the mouth and neck mirror the grime that was beginning to collect on the mask in the 1978 original,
I really appreciate the kind words! I've always been a fan of the weathered looks and I did go back to the original (or interpretations of the original) for inspiration. Thanks again for checking out the video!

I did this exact thing so I'm not trying to come off like I know more, but I realised that coloring it white with grays and blacks isn't movie accurate. I saw the actual mask in daylight, and its mixes of browns and tans.
The hair looks spot on and friggin awesome
Dang this is sweet your other 2 masks are good too you should try making other masks like Jason or ghostface I bet they would look amazing

Looks so scary you should do the 78 mask next! And for the paint job when you were doing the white base where you using all paint or the mix again?
How much grams or whatever weight of hair did roughly you buy for the mask?
For this mask, I ended up using the old hair that was pulled off. I cut off the glued up section and reglued it.

i had this mask but unfortunately had to throw it out. somehow bugs got into the hair, then the hair started falling out and it was almost bald.
oh well. i can always buy a new one. when i do, ill have to try this!

I’m 13 and I really want a Michael myers mask for this halloween. We bought one that supposedly fitted kids but it was huge and misshapen. I obviously can’t spend much but I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a good one.

Hey man I just wanted to say I absolutely love the mask! It looks perfect and it’s what I can hope to make. Now I do have a question, I have seen other tutorials say this but I just wanted to check. When I do the mix with distilled water, acrylic paint, could I use liquid latex for the mix instead of actual latex? I’ve never done anything like this before so I’m trying to do my best with 2018 version, and I’m also working on the 2021 Halloween kills mask
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it! Yes, I would recommend liquid latex. I've also heard people recommend "balloon" latex as well, which seems to be a little stronger and more flexible.

Find it super weird people cut the eyes more, it's the literal mould from the movie, the eyes are exactly how they should be. Overall looks excellent tho man, annoying ToTs doesn't do a slightly better paint job to begin with
I've been trying to get into rehauling but I don't know what I need to do it any recommendations of what I should get to start?
Definitely get little brushes and foam sponges to start because an airbrush isn't needed. Having a general set of acrylic paints is good to get your base color down and to do weathering also. You will need plenty of white acrylic as well as latex and distilled water for the base coat (it's a 1 to 3 mix). That stuff isn't a whole tone of money, so it's a good way to start somewhere. I do also recommend making an account on the Michael Myers forum and checking out the different techniques and tricks people have!

Thanks! Just took a lot of determination and way more time than it looks like on camera haha. Even that base coat can be trickier than some think, but keep experimenting and have fun with it
Hey man, incredible job! For the wash, how long do you recommend letting the paint dry before wiping off the wash? I keep running into the issue of the deep pockets not keeping the paint. Thanks!
Thanks! Honestly, I've recently run into that issue too with some other projects. I've heard it's best to use ink instead and to leave it for a couple minutes. You can use some alcohol or lightly use naphtha to wipe off the excess.

What type and kind of airbrush did you use for the mask that you recommended? I have all the materials except for that.
I'm making my own Myers mask from a custom blank and this is definitely how I want it to look!!! Do you know of any places where I can get mohair to hair the mask? I'm stumped for that process.
