Today I'm showing you guys how I made my cheap and easy DIY grow box. I used this all of last season and it worked extremely well for me. I used the Velcro so I could take it down and put it back up easily, and it seems that idea worked out really well! For those of you thinking of building something like this, I hope this helps!

“You just have to do it for what makes sense to you” amen bro
Absolutely! Thank you for watching!
Facts this was cool
I bought a 10 pack of emergency blankets, the silver reflective ones. I am looking how to build the frame now, Thank you. I think this is it,
The idea to use the velcro tape is just perfect. Thank you so much!
good on you for showing the finished product at the start! many others make you skip to the end to have a look which is dumb. so many do it.
I want to see unboxing videos like this. put the opening of the boring box and (oh, what a cool box) to the end of the video. and then at the very end the delivery from the courier.
Best one I’ve seen you done it exactly how I would , great thing about using those pvc pipes is that you can make it what ever size you want! Great video and I’m only 1 minute in
If you use this video to help you make your own grow box, let me know how it turns out! If you made any improvements, share them in the comments!
I bought this car windshield sun reflector it looks just like the stuff your using but i was wondering what i got will still work right
It should work just fine! Keep an eye on your temps on the inside of the box and just make any adjustments needed to keep it where you need it, but you shouldn’t have any issues!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead ok awesome man hey thanks buddy & thanks for replying back i just back home from lowes gettin ready to start putting it together
Good luck man, no problem! Let me know how it goes! I just got back from Lowe’s too haha! I have a few plants that are top heavy and falling over so I had to grab some stakes!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead hell man i sure will i messed up & grabbed the wrong elbows i have to go back in the morning but im gonna go ahead and order my seeds tonight thank you for making this video & taken the time out to make it for us I'll keep everyone up to date I'll be starting on it again in the morning after o get back from lowes again i gotta exchange those elbows out
Hey man, thanks I just set mine up and its doing great. I decided to go with 3/4" 4x2x4 and I'm loving it.
Hey Larry, sorry for the delayed response! I’m so happy it’s doing great! Keep me posted on your grow, I would love to hear how the tent does! I no longer have mine because I went with something bigger but it did a great job while I had it!
Thank you so much! Was planning to buy a grow tent online but it costs a fortune, good thing i found this
You’re welcome!
I'm a huge fan of stealth growing in all of its forms. Version 2.0 has the opportunity for a major improvement.
The mirror floor of grow tents isn't for the plants. Having a mirror beneath the plants is unnecessary torcher and stress on the plants. The mirror floor sells tents and lights to growers who can see with their naked eyes that the tent with the mirror floor is 20% brighter to human eyes. But that extra 20% is cutting photosynthesis through the heat stress directly on the side of the leaf that doesn't do photosynthesis. The bottom of the leaf is for transpiration to cool off. And the mirror on the floor puts their panting mouth holes, called stoma, on the bottom of the leaf, in an oven of heat radiation.
A black floor is horrible, but it's the best we can do until the plants casts shade over 100% of the floor. A white/mirror floor turns up the torcher to 11/10ths.
Would a grass green floor be ideal?
@@ElegantFinishes it would be "better" than a literal mirror. But green, brown, and black all still reflect heat. You don't get full efficiency from growth until the plants fully shade the floor.
Thanks for the info
Awesome Idea! I have an old ladder golf game that I can recycle the PVC from. Just hoping there's enough length for the same size. If not, I'll try and do a small one for seedlings. Growers💚
Let me know how it goes! That would be awesome if you could recycle the old game and make it work!
This a great idea. I'm gonna build this for my chili plants
That’s what I used it for! I grew about 25 plants in it until they got too big for it!
Yeah, awesome! Same here, just got my Mars HydroTS600, i think its ideal for it
Yeaaaa… chili plants 😉
😂
Yup for Chilli and nothing else..
Build it 4x4x4 to fit the panels correctly without adding a strip cut all your pipe 4' and every time you ad a fitting cut off 1/4 an inch off your pipe that will use less 4'x8' panels total 3 and use 2 inch strips of velcro very uniformly
GREAT video!!! Thank you for making this easy to understand!
Thank you! Just an idea, of which I will be trying, use a dog crate. If you don't have one I guarantee someone close to you would be jumping at the chance to let you take it off their hands after Fido is house broken and trained. One big enough of course. Should be minimal assembly need on a used one. And hey, if you decide you don't want to use it anymore just break it down and build yourself a trellis for the garden. If you happen to miss using that old grow cage.... you know what to do.
Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds a lot easier than cutting PVC with my weak hands.
i am gonna go to the hardware store and rebuild that thing tomorrow! thanks for the instructions!
Hi Brandon, very helpful video, just bought the PVC. Will be assembling it soon, TY!
hey, thanks for doing this the way you did,
It may seem like common sense to some people but common sense stuff escapes everyone from time to time, and being this thorough is much appreciated.

Thank you for this.
I'll be sharing this with my gardening friends.
Well done.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
And I so appreciate your hard work. Garden clubs across America are being slammed with people trying to stay alive. This will make it easier for many to understand some of the issues.
Brilliant..just removed plastic and converted my 5 ft greenhouse into growtent for inside .
Thanks for sharing this😂
Good job!
So basic but educational, 'planting the seed' with ppl. For the prepper in all of us. Hey when the shtf these skills could litrally sustain your life!
Thank you! Just made mine today and I’m super excited!
Bro you got my like not even ten seconds in! This video is absolutely gold
This is great, thanks Brandon! I'm definitely going to incorporate into my future seasons.
It worked really well for me! When I broke it down I threw the entire thing into a duffle bag as well which was awesome. I will bust it out when I bring a couple plants in to over winter next year, just to quarantine them from anything in my main tent.
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead No air flow.. Massive fail. Needs intake hole at the bottom and at least a 4 inch PC fan installed at the top. Otherwise you have no fresh air/CO2 for the plants and also a humidity problem which means mold, fungus gnats and un healthy low yielding plants.
Thank you for your great ideas. Already made grow tents are just too pricey so I came across your video here on u tube really answered to low cost spending from purchasing those grow tents that is ridiculously just too pricey. Thank you again for sharing.
How did your build work out??
Love that fact you build your own at current I reuse what ever I can find if its free upcucle it, I'm using an old green house frame I found, so far iv had no other use apart from using it to start veg seeds currently got carrots and there doing so well
Whatever it takes to do what we love!
Exactly that man, if its reusable or adaptable we will find a way
For growing 4 plants, which is what is legal in my area, i did a 6×6×2 and it worked perfectly thanks man
why 6x6x2? odd size..
Wide size so 5 plants can fit but I don't think they grow 2 ft high I think a 6×6×5 maybe 🤔
@@fernandogarza4231 6x2 is good for 3 plants imo
@@GeorgeWPush yeah you right. Hbout for 5?
What did you do for ventilation?
Excellent!
At my level too !
Cheers bro from The Hunter Valley Australia
youre the plug thank you for putting the insulation in the description
You’re welcome!
@Whitepepper Farms what materials are you using??
Followed this video today
Thanks bro. 😅
This is a great idea. ... thanks for sharing
I like that you didn't glue the pvc and you can take it all back apart if you need to.
I love your innovation here
Gonna grown some great California Broccoli in a safe environment thanks to you mister Whitepepper
Great video man, I really appreciate it, thanks so much!
No problem, thank you for watching!
Thank You. Love the idea.
Wow Brandon that looks awesome. I’ve been pouring over info and ideas for something like this and now my minds made up. I might add a window type cut and a couple of vent holes ? Did u have to glue the fittings and have you been able to determine any light penetration ? Again ‘ great job 👏👏👏👏🖖
Thank you, I appreciate it! It had a bit more light penetration than an actual grow tent you could buy, but it wasn’t bad! You just need to make sure it’s sealed well at the seams. I didn’t have ventilation in this one but it’s not a bad idea at all! Same with a window! I didn’t glue it together so I could tear it down and put it in storage and I had no issues with it. Let me know how it goes!
Brandon Whitepepper one other thing about the light penetration thing is I’m gonna try using full Velcro strips along all edges🤔
I thought about that as well after the fact! I thought about that or possibly some double sided tape. Whatever you end up doing, let me know how it goes! Eventually I will build another one so I would love to see how people improve upon it.
I know this is old, but try using metal tape for duct work for the edges. The only thing that needs Velcro is the door
6:31 that's what she said.
I'm 12 I couldn't resist XD
Excellent! How are the walls attached to the pipes? And light passes through the cracks?
Pretty good idea, but I would stick that Velcro on the full length of every pipe to make a better seal...
Or just by a grow tent on amazon for 80
Hey bro I'm new to online so I don't know very much but where do I find the descriptions that you were telling people where to find all the reflective stuff I don't know how to get to it can you help me please also I want to say you did a wonderful job man you're the man bro
I have to set mine up in an old chicken coops. I'm wondering if I should put metal caging on the floor to keep out moles or groundhogs?
I am in love with this video and have probably watched it like 5 tames! I have never done something like this and your video has really inspired me. I am not sure if you are still answering questions, but if you are I have a couple. I am using this box for plants and or veggies if that helps.
First question: After reading your comment section about ventilation, you said you used a desk fan, how did you do this? Did you hook it up to your PVC or kinda set it on the ground and let it go.
Second Question: GROW LIGHTS I have been searching a good one, do you remember the ones you use? Or maybe have ones that you would recommend?
Third and maybe my last: How do you attached/ hang things! Do I need thicker PVC for the cross top support. Does the 3/4 size offer the best support for the frame/any lights or anything else that needs to be hung .
Last question for real! : I need to put wrapping on the bottom as well? Rather how can I support the bottom for easy transport
.....
I think that's it. I mean also if anyone else has any suggestions that would be cool.
I will do my best to answer all your questions!
The fan was just a small little fan and I ended up using zip ties to attach it to the pvc in one of the top corners.
I have always used KING LED lights off Amazon. Middle of the road price point and I’ve always been able to grow everything really well with them. In general.. I always tend to go with any kind of LED grow lights but there are other options out there.
I never had any issues when attaching things to the 3/4” PVC along the cross beams on the top, it supported it pretty well!!
As far as the bottom... I never moved it after I had things in it without taking stuff out. I am sure you could reinforce the bottom and make that possible thought!
I think I got most of the questions in there haha. I hope this helps, please reach out of you have more questions!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead Thank you so much for replying! I am really happy that you took time out of your day to do so. These answers have helped me a lot, so thank you again!
No problem, I’m happy to help!
I’m using a full spectrum SAD light. It gives a little heat off- what do you suggest for ventilation?
So I have a 5x5 that I just recently took down but kept my 2x4....I wanted to know if I could use the poles from the 5x5 to Make a smaller tent. Maybe use half of one side 2.5Lx5Hx5W ( with smaller custom tent like yours)
I see that Jazz #25 jersey 😎💯 Saint George here 🤙
Awesome 👍
I have had a lot of people asking me what the reflective bubble wrap is and where to get it. Here is the link to get it from amazon!
amzn.to/30VWcGL
this wrap is great and i have a couple sections i use due to it left over from a home application. WARNING!!! this material will deteriorate and it will flake off in tiny shiny little pieces that will get on everything. im not saying dont use it as i am using it right now just a warning that it will start to fall apart at some point.
When this beggins to happen it's time to replace it or use a plastic wrap thats like Mylar, or if you are too much of a cheapskate use clingfilm with a layer of foil between it
Thanks bro ima deff use this video to setup my own tent
You're very welcome! Let me know how it turns out!
Can you keep it outside in cold weather Like London? or in Garden Shed
Where did u get the reflective product?
You sir are a genius.
Hey thanks!
Love the organization and detail! Were you in the service?
I was not, but I’m not too experienced building things so when i do it, I need to have everything planned out to a T or else it won’t end up working out for me 😂
Nice thanks. I'm first time grower
Awesome! Good luck with your grow!
How do you open the grow without spoiling the material?
Hey great idea 👍😃
Thank you!
thank you! this is so good
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
thanks bro great video
Hey thanks!!
Huh, I have this stuff leftover from a roof repair I had to do in my home. Thanks!
Awesome!!! That will make it even cheaper!!
Do you put something for ventilation?
if i want a 0.6m*0.6m*2 or 2'*2'*6.5' tent what outer diameter and thicness pvc pipe should i use to have a stable structure? 20mm*1,5mm is cheap, the next size 32mm*1,8mm is already double the price. thank you
Good idea bro 👏
Hey thanks!
Look for trade show tent fixtures.
GREAT idea, thank you so much. I just subbed to your channel. Thank you for taking the time to put this video together...
And thank you for taking the time to watch it!
Can you recommend a reflective?
Wow gonna build one
Let me know how it ends up!
What material did you use for insulation, can I use aluminum foil?
Thanks. Now I can grow my own weeds.
I mean.. you’re not wrong!
Great stuff and 👍Where u buy the PVC and reflectx? Hardware store? Or purchased online?
The reflectix I got on amazon, the PVC was just at Lowe’s!
This is genius!!!
Hey thanks!
🍁🍁🍁 that's was good 👍
Mikko Handsome thank you!
wow! that was brillant!
Hey thanks! Once I have enough room I want to do another one. Definitely going to change some things up and go much bigger than the first one!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead what you would change?
Marco Longari depending on what I was making it for I would go taller for sure, give me some space to hang the lights a bit easier! I would also most likely try using the car shades that are reflective rather than reflectix, just to save some more money!
I was going to use a very large dog crate, but velcro the mylar to the outside. Can I keep the top uncovered so that I can hang the light to the cieling above the crate? Its in the basement so there's no chance of any other light getting in...
Hi brandon if i'll make one of this can i use a heavy grow light in it for growing canabis?
Ya if the frame supports it
I'm gonna try this out I'll let you know how it turns out
Definitly let me know!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead I built the box and it turned out great I ended up making it smaller 2x2x2. I'm currently growing some lettuce and see how it turns out
Nice! It should work great for that! I’m glad it turned out well!
Awesome tutorial, what was the end total for all materials beside the pvc cutter?
If I remember right I think I spent around $70. It’s been a while though. The biggest expense was the bubble wrap stuff. If I found something else to use the price would have probably been less than half.
Maybe try tin foil glued (spray adhesive) to cardboard?
@@meta0ne870 Other DIY grow boxes use aluminum foil with good results.
А как оборудование, и прочие фишки с электроникой вешать?
Great ! How much do u think u spent on everything ? Also would I be able to get the reflective stuff from home depot ??
Silver bubble wrap is like 40 bucks. You can find a grow tent for 50 on ebay..
Thanks bro!!!
You’re welcome!
Looks like it could work.... I wanna see results though 🤗🇦🇺
This is so small 🤣 but thanks for the concept 💯🙌🏽
This was the only year I was able to do one this small haha. If I could go back I would have gone bigger for sure, but at the time i just had a few garden starts that I needed to get a head start with!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead all love 💚❤️ I see now 😄
Where I buy this silver plates?
What is the name of reflective thing you use as cover?
It's on the video description
This material looks like the material from some of those $1 car shades. I wonder if those shades could be used in similar way but at a cheaper cost than the Reflectix.
Per Shop i plan on doing the same thing
I've seen some with car shades or emergency blankets
I think that would be an awesome route! The reflectix was the most expensive part of this and I think those car shades would work perfectly! It would drastically reduce the costs if you did that!
Ps. Sorry for the late response!
How much pipes did you get and how long
I bought a bundle of 10 pipes, but a lot of that went to other projects. I think total I used close to 50ft of pipe to build this. The box is 4ft long x 3ft tall x 2ft deep. Using the same basic steps though you could make this any size you needed! Just make sure the walls and ceiling are supported by some cross beams and pillars like I have on this one.
you can buy a grow tent for what it cost to make that
How does this Reflectix stand against heat enclosed?
Hey Nick, sorry for the delayed response! The tent held heat really well! I honestly had to add a fan to keep it from getting too warm in there.
What is the pipe size
@brandon whitepepper have you made a video of you using this?
I think the first video I ever uploaded had this in it. ruclips.net/video/cezO1_k56gE/видео.html
Do you sale tent packs?? Cuz I’ll definitely buy acouple
I do not, I’m sorry!
I've always read that covering the inside of a grow in white was better than silver
Possibly! I’ve always had something reflective in order to bounce the light around the tent more. Right now I do have a closet grow room with white walls though and it is working well for me!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead As my research continues I found a fantastic video from the channel MIGRO that has definitely changed my mind on the topic. ruclips.net/video/LQ-Hg_L011k/видео.html
how do you go about controlling the smell or making it more airtight?
For what I used it for, smell wasn’t an issue. Just garden starts is all! It also didn’t need to be air tight!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead ah fair enough, thank you anyway! I don’t imagine it would be very difficult to fit a hole for a carbon filter if needed. Thanks for the video
So no ventilation?
Total cost?
If i didn't already have a tent and a room I'd of made this outta plumbing pipe and panda film. The biggest issue i see with this is your not gonna be able to keep that thing up and moving for more than a year max with PVC, Not to mention you need a weak and lite lamp in that little room you built... Try putting a carbon filter in there suspended from PVC Pipe? lol it's gonna be a nice mess with some plants slightly sticking out of a pile of coal in a month or two.
A nice idea, but you should still scale it up a bit with more durable materials. I have a buddy who built a decent tent/room outta left over 2x4's, plywood, and panda film. I think he had to buy the film and the screws, but the thing cost him a little less than a hundred dollars and he's able to hang a decent carbon filter up nice and high, two 315 cmh lamps, mount fans anywhere on the walls or ceiling, cut holes practically anywhere that needs a ducting hole.
If you have the time, materials and skills it can be better to simply build your own room/tent thing, but if you don't have one of those three ingredients your gonna wanna simply buy one from your local grow store. Gorilla and Yield Lab both make great tents for hobbyist who might need a space, but don't exactly know what types of features are needed for the space. They're also really durable, easy to set up and have logical arrangements for everything you might need during your grow. Good luck you MacGyver like farmers.
What are the chances I build a 5ft version of this and hang a 7lbs 1200watt led panel that it breaks under the load?
If you did it with 1" PVC rather than 3/4" and made sure the sides were supported I don't think it would be an issue at all.
@@WhitepepperFarmshomesteadAwesome. Appreciate the feedback and the great ideas.
Anytime!
What is the material ?
How much did it cost to build
How do the led light connections go in ?
The cords or how do I hang them? The cords I just left a small part with no Velcro, ran the cord through, and then just used the Velcro to seal around it the best I could. As far as the lights, I hung it with the cables that come with the lights and I hooked it onto the top PVC.
Brandon Whitepepper thanks!
