When I was a teen I thought I was being slick when I converted a huge house speaker into a grow box. I used old computer parts like the power supply and a fan, rigged a light and lined with Mylar and a watering tube. You would NEVER have known by looking at it that it was a grow box...but after a few months my dad started smelling something funny coming from my room...game over. But it was a fun little project while it lasted. One thing he mentioned that I didn’t have...a carbon filter, I know what kinds of flowers he’s growing. 👏🏽

Might want to line the inner walls with reflective material, mylar emergency blankets will work well. The light reflection will improve your plants light coverage and also help lower foliage receive more light than what those plain gray wall will produce. And also, I would recommend using a pvc plumbing bulkhead to properly secure carbon filter, may use caulking to seal air tight, And will look better. And if the filter sticking out the top is too noticable, and want it to be more concealable, cut bottom of 5 gal bucket and drill holes in the lid and throw it over top of filter and it will look like just a bucket sitting on a garbage can.

You guys are silly, I grow weed, those garbage cans aren’t tall enough to grow bud. The carbon air filter is for the fertilizer. It smells like chicken shit and can make you feel sick. I grow weed but my carbon filter isn’t really used to get rid of the pot smell, while it does do that, it wasn’t my goal for it, they stop white powdery mildew and other airborne things, it also collects dust on the filter which is even better. My point is, cannabis plants need more space, and a light like that means lifting it 2 inches every week. You can see how that would be an issue. But for real, go smell some pure fertilizer and you’ll quickly realize the purpose of the filter in his set up. I wouldn’t even suggest growing autoflower cannabis in there, they’re the shortest cannabis plants and still grow up to 4 feet tall. There’s more reasons why cannabis wouldn’t thrive growing in that environment but the main reason like I said is the size issue. You’d also want to be in a 5 gallon pot which would raise the height of the initial plant roughly 6- 8 inches which would hardly leave space to grow to its full potential. Sorry to ramble but I’ve noticed way to many people saying the same things about it being for cannabis but it’s simply not practical.
@Ned Bazinga does he live in Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada..? There are places you can legally grow your own plants. It's split on recreational and medical uses, but you can grow it in a lot of states under the right conditions.
@Ned Bazinga up to 6 plants is considered personal and you would only get fines and court costs, no jail no worries. Will be legal everywhere soon so it really doesnt matter.

A sheet a pir insulation and a roll of duct tape makes a great hood for on top of a kratky tote. If you use a tote there is enough space on the roof to have the filter inside of the hood, you can then use a centrifugal fan on the outside to ensure negative pressure inside the hood so even if you have a couple leaks it wont matter. add a submersible pump on a timer to run 2 sleep 2 and you have my setup.

You guys are silly, I grow weed, those garbage cans aren’t tall enough to grow bud. The carbon air filter is for the fertilizer. It smells like chicken shit and can make you feel sick. I grow weed but my carbon filter isn’t really used to get rid of the pot smell, while it does do that, it wasn’t my goal for it, they stop white powdery mildew and other airborne things, it also collects dust on the filter which is even better. My point is, cannabis plants need more space, and a light like that means lifting it 2 inches every week. You can see how that would be an issue. But for real, go smell some pure fertilizer and you’ll quickly realize the purpose of the filter in his set up. I wouldn’t even suggest growing autoflower cannabis in there, they’re the shortest cannabis plants and still grow up to 4 feet tall. There’s more reasons why cannabis wouldn’t thrive growing in that environment but the main reason like I said is the size issue. You’d also want to be in a 5 gallon pot which would raise the height of the initial plant roughly 6- 8 inches which would hardly leave space to grow to its full potential. Sorry to ramble but I’ve noticed way to many people saying the same things about it being for cannabis but it’s simply not practical.

There are places you can legally grow your own plants. It's split on recreational and medical uses, but you can grow it in a lot of states under the right conditions.

A sheet a pir insulation and a roll of duct tape makes a great hood for on top of a kratky tote. If you use a tote there is enough space on the roof to have the filter inside of the hood, you can then use a centrifugal fan on the outside to ensure negative pressure inside the hood so even if you have a couple leaks it wont matter. add a submersible pump on a timer to run 2 sleep 2 and you have my setup.
