Having begun to play this godforsaken game against my better judgment, I like looking through the characters and seeing that half are like powerful mages and skilled warriors and the other half are like “she is a secretary” and somehow this secretary is even better at kicking the shit out of the local wildlife than the mages and warriors

If I post somewhere about my unique build for something and I don't get someone calling me a retard for not speccing into something else, it feels wrong. If I main something that doesn't play by the meta and don't get someone calling me an idiot for not playing the "right" thing, it feels wrong. If I'm bad at a game and I make a pepega move, I deserve to get flamed for it. It's not that everyone's a sweat, it's just that they're playing to maximize their experience, and even in a not competitive singleplayer game, if someone sees someone else doing something they wouldn't, it feels better with a little bit of salt. There has to be some sort of conflict, especially beyond what the devs intended, maybe that's just my nature. I'm not saying a wholesome community is a bad thing, nor am I saying a toxic one is inherently good. I just enjoy a little bit (or a hell of a lot) of salt from time to time. Everything's a lot blander without salt.

As someone who started playing BotW AFTER playing GI, it amazes me to what extent the game draws similarities from, down to even the beginning notes of one of the domain OSTs. Which was quite shocking, because now Genshin has progressed to having one of the best VGMs, period.

ngl, i had a crippling addiction to the game. Played it every waking moment for a month and a bit after its release and it took me like 2 weeks of to ween myself off. I highly recommend *not* playing this game if you're going through a rough patch in life and have escapist tendencies (even more so if you spend money on games and have never played gacha games before). The game has so many systems in place to keep you thinking and playing the game, and they become so much worse if you start paying. "You know you enjoy a game when the game takes time away from your life, you know you're addicted to a game when life takes time away from the game"
Congratulations on taking back your power to live life on your terms. It can be tempting to just lean into an MMO or other time-wasting game-like thing and just go with the flow of whatever's going on there, but it can also suck out all your capacity for initiative, motivation... and eventually, even the energy to perform basic IRL functions necessary to maintain a reasonable standard of living. Also the gacha ones will eat your bank account. If you must toss money at something, why not starving people or social support programs?^^
He's actually very right. It's basically 2 requirements to enjoy Genshin. As long as you are in on those, you can play the game for a long time without spending extra money or being angry. 1. Part of the grind is locked behind an energy system, but you will get everything you can out of it through long periods of time, and if you want to spend the whole day playin, just do exploration and story(right now it will last you like 40 hours by itself). Don't ever spend money on energy. 2. Getting Characters and Weapons is rng ,so you will need to learn to accept whats given and mildly tilt it in your favour through odds and restrained spending of currencies.

Something else: Since Liyue is the nation of trade and its god is also the god of literal MONEY, they have basically made China hyper-capitalist in the game. It does not feel out of place at all for someone who lived in China for most of their life.
China for most of its history was more sophisticated and rich than the west, Liyue in my opinion represent that Chinese past like the Tang, Han and other dynasties.

The ROC was corrupt, hypocritical, and arguably a bigger shame of dynastic China than CCP now. Hell, don't listen to whatever your third generation immigrant Asian classmate tell you. Liyue is not an accurate representation of China save for the hyper-capitalist society. They shoved a fishing village and a few stone peaks at you, basically a tenth of China's cultural intensity. The clothes are not traditional, the Japanese ones are way more authentic comparatively. Most of the ruins aren't related, the bit of buildings that make sense are small and frail. Essentially Mihoyo as a Chinese producer made a stereotypical China, mocked customs by giving culturally inspired characters clothes you would only see in a whorehouse, and just made money from appealing to coomers. In my opinion China cannot claim a "better" place than the west in most of its history, Early to Middle Tang dynasty fits that description definitely but all other claims are arguable. Hell I sound like a boomer.

Dunno if Maxor will see this, but I personally like this old genshin video better than the newer one. The way he narrates in this video in a serious tone as if he has a poker face the entire time elevates the experience for me.
I'm a Ganyu main, and I still laugh in rock. Having a well-built Zhongli with over 40k health is the equivalent of turning on the easy mode in the game. I don't even need to dodge 90% of the time while I'm lining up my shots.

If you installed it on a portable hard drive (just an average 1TB, its actually good for additional storage for steam games and isn't too slow), could it write itself onto other drives? Alternatively, what if you installed it inside of a virtual machine?
@@trollpatrol1177 with ring 0 perms, it can do whatever the OS can - if the OS has access to an external drive, it has too. With a virtual machine, it should be ok, as long as the virtualization software is secure (which it should be, as long as you update and are at least a bit careful) and there aren't any miscomnfigurations. Also, the point isn't that Genshin necessarily does this, just that you have to trust it not to.
@@honzanijaky4132 The game is so sketchy that it checks if it’s running in a VM, and refuses if it thinks it is. Quite a bit of malware is popping up that behaves just like this. Of course, there are ways to trick the game into thinking it’s running on a physical system.

@@MrGamelover23 Since they adamantly refuse to port the game to Linux, the only option is to run it through a compatibility layer like WINE, which, AFAIK, doesn’t work. Having done some searching around, it looks like some workarounds have been developed within the last year to improve compatibility, but it still comes with risks and is installed with root privileges, something I’m not willing to give to a video game. Unless I can verify the source code myself, I only will install proprietary software locally. Of course, I’m currently taking a course on reverse engineering at my university so I do have that to help verify the safety of software, but I’d rather not have to dissect massive binary files.

ngl, i had a crippling addiction to the game. Played it every waking moment for a month and a bit after its release and it took me like 2 weeks of to ween myself off. I highly recommend *not* playing this game if you're going through a rough patch in life and have escapist tendencies (even more so if you spend money on games and have never played gacha games before). The game has so many systems in place to keep you thinking and playing the game, and they become so much worse if you start paying.

He's actually very right. It's basically 2 requirements to enjoy Genshin. As long as you are in on those, you can play the game for a long time without spending extra money or being angry.
1. Part of the grind is locked behind an energy system, but you will get everything you can out of it through long periods of time, and if you want to spend the whole day playin, just do exploration and story(right now it will last you like 40 hours by itself). Don't ever spend money on energy.
2. Getting Characters and Weapons is rng ,so you will need to learn to accept whats given and mildly tilt it in your favour through odds and restrained spending of currencies.
Or you can play warframe and grind for 3 weeks to nuke everything with a pink flamethrower

They shoved a fishing village and a few stone peaks at you, basically a tenth of China's cultural intensity. The clothes are not traditional, the Japanese ones are way more authentic comparatively. Most of the ruins aren't related, the bit of buildings that make sense are small and frail. Essentially Mihoyo as a Chinese producer made a stereotypical China, mocked customs by giving culturally inspired characters clothes you would only see in a whorehouse, and just made money from appealing to coomers. In my opinion China cannot claim a "better" place than the west in most of its history, Early to Middle Tang dynasty fits that description definitely but all other claims are arguable.

After watching this video i downloaded Genshin Impact.I was a man of self control and filled with the desire to go outside.But now my only goal is to stay inside and get as many waifus as possible.I believe that was worth it

I've played this game for almost a year now, and it seems im not the only one who'll suffer from it
as an extremely gay woman, this game has so many waifus that my sexuality has multiplied so much that it's circled around itself, and i am now a straight male.
As a pansexual person, all the waifus and husbandos in this game have forced me to stay inside and not touch grass since lockdown started and I'm not even mad about it /hj

If you installed it on a portable hard drive (just an average 1TB, its actually good for additional storage for steam games and isn't too slow), could it write itself onto other drives?
Alternatively, what if you installed it inside of a virtual machine?
@@trollpatrol1177 with ring 0 perms, it can do whatever the OS can - if the OS has access to an external drive, it has too. With a virtual machine, it should be ok, as long as the virtualization software is secure (which it should be, as long as you update and are at least a bit careful) and there aren't any miscomnfigurations. Also, the point isn't that Genshin necessarily does this, just that you have to trust it not to.
@@honzanijaky4132 The game is so sketchy that it checks if it’s running in a VM, and refuses if it thinks it is. Quite a bit of malware is popping up that behaves just like this. Of course, there are ways to trick the game into thinking it’s running on a physical system.
@@fatfr0g570 LIKE WHAT? I wonder if they can make it run the game on Linux, despite the worse performance. This games code is such a piece of junk that it actually performs better on Windows on the Steam Deck then on Steamos. Like, considerably better.
@@MrGamelover23 Since they adamantly refuse to port the game to Linux, the only option is to run it through a compatibility layer like WINE, which, AFAIK, doesn’t work. Having done some searching around, it looks like some workarounds have been developed within the last year to improve compatibility, but it still comes with risks and is installed with root privileges, something I’m not willing to give to a video game. Unless I can verify the source code myself, I only will install proprietary software locally. Of course, I’m currently taking a course on reverse engineering at my university so I do have that to help verify the safety of software, but I’d rather not have to dissect massive binary files.
