The annoying thing is Genshin already has a solution to this issue and it is called the Starglitter exchange. They just refuse to increase the number of 4 stars in the store and update the roster to include newer 4 stars. It hasn't been updated since 1.0 and in that time they have added a 5 star in the standard banner.
They recently decided to add a crown to it, which I believe is the first change to that shop since 1.0... so maybe there's hope someday for more changes to that shop
Yeeep. Wuthering Waves lets you buy copies of the banner characters with it and it's so nice. Admittedly you can't buy your first copy, you need to already own them, but if I was just looking for a single copy to hit a needed constellation this would be so good.
And that's why this game can't blabb new players in for the most part. Genshin consist of old whales, dolphins and a bunch of old f2p by now who have sunk cost fallacy going either with money or time. Who in their right mind starts Genshin in 2024? They have missed ALL the event items, weapons etc. Event weapons are PARAMOUNT for ANY Character to work if you want to stay 100% f2p. Even spenders are struggeling to equip ther characters with billet only and pulled weapons.
You are absolutely correct. This probably wasn't much of an issue when the game was very young. Now the problem has just gotten worse and worse. There's way too many 4-stars and 5-stars, and the current system hasn't adapted to cope. Heck, we're still waiting on some 5-stars to have their very first rerun, i.e., Wriothesley
nearly a day 1 player and off the top of my head I got 6 C5, I CANNOT imagine the struggle new players have when so many 4* require at least C2-4 to be at all viable for endgame. Wishing for a 4* event banner or a 4* selector on 5* banner
And it's even worse than that since SO many guides just assume that everyone has those characters, so like 3/4 of the teams people suggest are gonna be ones which a newer player literally cannot use...
Yeah, I've called out a few content creators on that, when they're ranking C6 four stars and C0 five stars... that C6 four star just isn't realistic for any newer four star even for us older players who whale a bit. There are just too many four stars, with too much time between them, and if the four star doesn't line up with a five star you want... Like, okay, I didn't mind getting a C3 Raiden, so I could risk going for a copy of Chevy. But most of my five stars are at the point I want them, with the next con or two being relatively unappealing. And the five stars I don't have that re-run, well, I don't want them. If I did, I'd have them already. And for new players, especially F2P... that many five stars out there to chase, that many four stars... they are so screwed.
Been playing for 3 years and my three copies (c2) off xinqiu are all from lantern rites lol. He evaded me on every darned banner I tried to snipe him in.
@@JoseFerreira-nk5kq what's your point? You can have multiple characters, but you can't really choose which characters will have C6. And most players only have C6 on 1.0 characters, which, in addition to being in the game the longest, also appear in banners the most.
As a F2P veteran I always took my c4 Fischl for granted but when I remember the fact I only got Bennet a week ago, due to the fact there are no guarantees on 4 stars, the problem becomes clear truth to be told, this is one of the major reasons why C6 Amber, Kaeya and Lisa are so hard to get and I think we're about due for a change
its so wild to me that the starter 4*s are NEVER featured on a rate up banner. not that it would fix the other glaring issues, but in HSR both March 7 & Dan Heng are available as rate-ups on character banners eventhough you get a copy of them for free. why can't genshin do that?

Allow me to introduce myself. I am the guy who spent $350 on the Yoimiya Childe rerun banner to pull a SINGLE copy of Layla on release. Now it’s bad enough that poor Layla took that many ten pulls to come home, but what makes my experience far worse is that fact that every single four star pull that wasn’t a weapon was heizou. I received 13 heizou’s in a row. The probability of which is 1/1594323. I’m quite the lucky guy, amirite?
Not to kick ya when your down but this is the reason why they don't change it. They just made $350 off you going for a 4 star character. If people had more restraint with their money they would change things because it would be less profitable for them.

Even though we know what they are doing its hard to resist those urges sometimes. At least on the bright side aside from the Gacha system it hard to argue that Genshin isn't one of the best open world RPGs ever made and it is available to people for free so i guess there is a bit of consolation in that.
As a complete F2P, I think 5-star characters are more F2P friendly. I have a C0 Kazuha and C0 Sucrose: almost two years of playing and there is no way I could get her C6. My Fischl is still C2, because I am slowly buying her consts from the shop. Fortunately, now the fate points requirement on the weapon banner has been decreased to 1, so I think the weapon banner will also be more F2P friendly.
Wow I'm in the same boat lol. I just pulled kazuha this banner finally so he's c0 and sucrose has been my only anemo for the entire time I've played and is still maybe c1. Can't remember. Fischl is about c2 as well and for the same reason. Bought her cons because I never pull her

The first five star I got in game was Xiao, and I've mained him ever since his first banner and...yeah, Faruzan was a nightmare for me. I lost my 50/50 to Qiqi, and got TWO Wanderers before I got my first Faruzan. It took me 204 pulls before I got her. The fact that she basically needs C6 to be optimal is infuriating as a Xiao enjoyer. I'm currently stuck at C2. I really wish they'd optimize four stars.
honestly this problem could be fixed easily by doing one or all of the following; 1) Add a 4 star only banner, absolutely NO CHANCE of pulling a 5 star. 2) Add a system where, on banners with rate up for 4 stars, you are able to CHOOSE which three 4 stars you pull for alongaide the 5 star, from a pool of maybe 10 characters, rotating the pool with every banner. 3) When you C6 a character the game should DESELECT THEM from banner pulls, like adding them to a blacklist that tells the banner system "no more of this character please".
The problem is these suggestions are bad for Mihoyo because they'll lead to less money being made. The faster players can get what they want, the less they'll need to wish on banners and their incentive to spend money will be lower. So these suggestions, while good for the players, do not benefit the developers and likely won't happen.
@holycheburek6298 firstly, don't defend the bad practices of companies who don't even care you exist; Hoyo is a multi BILLION dollar company, they can ease up on squeezing their player bases dry, they just won't because greed. secondly, less pulls is still people pulling, whales are gonna' whale and dolphins are gonna' dolphin, the income will drop but I doubt it'll drop by enough to make a dent. thirdly, nothing is stopping Hoyo from making more paid OPTIONAL content, like special skins with unique effects as they did with Diluc. Players will absolutely spend IRL money on that stuff AND it isn't tied to your ability to play the dang game.

However, from how I've seen Genshin's developers actually implement them (a perfect example the artifact transmuter that does exactly what the community suggested, but is actually usable so incredibly rarely that it hardly changes anything), it's like wishing with a monkey paw. So we should expect that even if the suggestions are implemented, they'll be nowhere nearly as straightforwardly useful for the players as we hope them to be. Albeit there is one argument in your favor, that being the change to the weapon banner to only needing 1 fate point instead of 2, so maybe you're right and we can expect at least something similar to your suggestions after all. While it is an example of them losing some profit for the sake of more attention and regaining even more profit, it's also actually good for players. So maybe you are right to be more confident in their ability to implement such suggestions! In conclusion I personally think that if there will ever be a 4 star banner, a 4 star epitomized path, or anything of the sort - then it'll only be added as one of the ways of bringing back more attention to the game and it'll likely take a while for us to actually see this happen, plus it might be a rare banner. It's likely we'll see a new limited event banner to make up for how rarely some characters get reruns, or a return of the chronicled wish, before they implement something for the 4 stars. But as for it will actually be added in the first place... Well, at least it doesn't sounds impossible.
The first suggestion is kinda bad ngl, why would I spend my hard earned primos just for some 4 stars when most of them are rather subpar or not interesting to me when I can just save for a 5 star with better animations? This also doesn't address the problem that the 4 star characters in the game are just genuinely too bloated so getting the specific one you want will still be a pain. The other suggestions are fine though.
@@Paracetamol-gaming I mean sure that's fair, it might not be useful to everyone but the current system is useful to, well, no-one. Myself and several genshin friends would indeed benefit from a 4 star banner, they use Bennett often and I have Kaeya on several teams, but in my 4 years of playing genshin Kaeya is only C2 (although there is an issue with the starters being stupidly hard to roll for some reason but that's another story lol). I do agree that 4 stars are getting bloated, unfortunately that's just the natural way gacha games tend to end up, giving us an even amount of 4s to 5s wouldn't make 5 stars feel special anymore or something like that. Though saying that I would like more 5 stars to work with, especially when there are some element-weapon combos we just don't have yet!
As a Kaeya main, I feel this on a spiritual level. It took me 2.5 years to get all 6 copies of him. I also wanted C6 Kaveh so I went all out for him too, but until now I only have him C3 despite having Baizhu and 2 Jeans (1 from his rerun on Nilou's banner) from trying to get him.
As another kaeya main I'm really pissed he doesn't get up'd. Pulling wise I've gotten Him once on standard which was what got me C5 kaeya(got his other cons in shop) which is annoying as hell because I managed to C6 all my standard five stars before reaching c5 kaeya.

I have a alt just for Asian server and i used amber more and happened to get her con from a standard pull, and my friend has only gotten a lisa con from standard(lisa is her SubDPS). at least theres that..its still very annoying though
On a separate but similar subject, one thing that has really bugged me lately is the infrequency of certain 4-star weapon series. I looked at the most recent Banner History spreadsheet over on Reddit and became frustrated when I saw the all-too-frequent appearances of some weapons. Dragon's Bane has appeared 28 times, Favonious Lance has been on 27 banners, The Flute, Eye of Perception, Sac Fragments have all been on 15 banners. If you've played Genshin for any reasonable length you've seen the same 4-star weapons appear time after time for years now. What I find so maddening is that there are weapon series who've been out for years and have only appear three to five times. The Waratsumi series, the Alley series, the Lithic series, the Tulaytullah and the most recent Fontainian Construction series all have seven or fewer appearances meanwhile the Bell has appeared two to three times as often. With 5.1, Genshin will add three new 4-star weapons to the armory, however I am worried that Rainslasher will appear 10 more times before we see a single one of them rerun.
I truly don't understand why EVERY weapon banner doesn't have multiple exclusive 4 stars. Why would I want to pull for weapons I ALREADY GET from the character banner? I have gotten nineteen copies of lion's roar, do they really think I want to pull on a banner with it? It should be mandatory for every banner to have *at least* 2 exclusives.
To play Devil's advocate, much as Bennett and Xiangling are busted 4-stars that help a lot of beginners, the Favonius line of weapon (mainly the Bow and Lance due to the number of Ult dependant in those categories) is busted and helps a lot. But yeah, so many weapon like Xiphos should have been put again on the line. Like you said, I wish for example they put the Lithic line available at least during the "Lantern Rite" patch, seems like the most fitting.
Everyone on the server already knows this, but my experience trying to get Layla was truly a fever dream. 2 Baizhus, 1 Scara, lots of the other 2 4* and to this day I still have no Layla. The lack of 4* guarantee is honestly so bad, especially now with so many characters that people already have at c6. I didn't get Kuki on her last banner either, I don't even remember who she ran with or when, I don't remember whether I even got the 5* during that time or if I got any 5* at all, all I remember is that I didn't get her. The experience that I'll never be able to forget is pulling for Layla. I wish each nation had a yearly 4* selector like Liyue during Lantern Rite, it would make the experience a lot easier to handle even if they keep the same banner system for 4*. They truly do need to pull themselves together and update the starglitter store tho. I wouldn't be nearly as pissed if I could just wait for Layla and Kuki to be buyable.

worst part in my opinion is, EVERYONE is a 5* nowadays can you recall during Fontaine's Archon quest, when Emilie risked her life and developed a temporary repellent to the primordial sea to help those who were at risk of being dissolved? Yeah, me neither. So why is she a 5*? Are her perfumes THAT good that justify her being grouped alongside A DRAGON?
yeah this... plus fontaine had such a small roster of 4 stars. I might be the only one but both mualani and kinich kinda seemed four star to me, the grapple and the surfing seem more "fun" then super powerful. I know mualani can get huge numbers but since kachina was a four star it would of made sense for her friends to be as well.
Genshin is a gacha game were people playing it are seriously baffled that it focused mainly on the higher rarity characters. This is both astoundingly stupid to read and an incredible achievment for the game

All 2 of them. If you don't like Xiao or Scara there's no reason to even have Faruzan right now. I mean sure there's Heizou but when is the last time you saw him on a banner?
Especially since Faruzan doesn't even run at the same time as Xiao. On average it takes THREE 5* to c6 a 4*. So in order to play 1 5star, you need 3 others (or a c2), which likely won't even be on his team.
Why is nobody talking about Charlotte, though? I'ts been a year since her release on Wrio's banner and hasn't reappeared ever since. And she is a great unit for Furina and Neuvillette teams. And I still haven't got a single copy of her either. :T
Hope you get blessed by her on your other pulls sometime! She's legit amazing, hers was one of the few debut banners I had really good luck on - even at C0 she did roughly the same healing as my very well-built Jean, and at C6 she's just amazing with Furina. Definitely deserves some love.

I got to get heizou C6 but I was incredibly lucky, and I was aiming for the last 3cons on kazuha (f2p) so also getting him was a relieve, but Thoma and Ning appeared so much more (and I already had them at C6) that it makes me believe the odds of the new characters are lower... Because 7 heizous on a 30 something ratio for the other 2 is insane
i could'nt get chevreuse in her first banner, and i figured "i'll get her later, she'll probably be in upcoming banners" oh boy, i was so terribly WRONG. i pulled for kinich yesterday, i'm not kidding, it was easier for me to get his c1 than a SINGLE chevreuse... this is getting ridiculous

Sometimes it is pretty vicious. To this day I have only stupid c3 Barbara as a day one player. Bennet on the other hand is like c50 .... some of the 4* I was really interested in I never got, like Layla, Sethos, Shinobu.... I actually liked Kaveh´s core detonation playstyle, but he is impossible to get some constellations on and I am not going to play him at c0
So relatable. I'm one of the few who actually likes barbara, and I never get her cons. I think she's c1. Meanwhile bennet is my only c6 I think, and I didn't even activate his c6 because I was concerned about limiting what teams he would fit with if I did and i enjoy playing him with anyone I want. Yet, mihoyo throws him in my wishes every chance they get 🙃
Happened to me as well with Razor, Think I got my first copy of him towards the end of Sumeru while being a day one spender and having every other original 4star at like C20+ :P Ans Kaveh was also very elusive for a long time, hopefully we both get cons some day
Another way of solving this issue would be with a 4* selector. For each limited banner the devs would choose two of the 4* characters and let the players choose the last slot. If they want to have more control they can limit which characters are selectable.
Are you me? I finally got c6 xinyan, which was fine, but then she kept coming at least another 10-15 times before I got 1 Kachina. C1 with the event, but still!

70% of my banner 5 stars i have were me trying to get a 4 star like kokomi, ayaka, C1 itto, yoimiya, Raiden and mualani, the only 5 star characters i got by actually trying to get them were hutao, venti, nahida and itto (then i got his C1 trying for kuki)
As someone who runs faruzun quite a lot since I main anemo DPS it has taken me well over 1300 wishes to get her fully c6 I got lucky once on the standard banner but in terms of wishing on a single banner that’s only available for 20 days once in a blue moon is just not feasible anymore the shop needs to be updated with more characters via star glitter otherwise getting the majority of 4 stars to a viable standard is just more of a demoralising grind since you could be waiting years
Fun fact. My Xiangling is C31. I use a website to track my wishes. The oldest 4 stars have constilation count in the 30s and the newest 4 stars I basically have none of them. I think its because every new banner has two old 4 stars and one new one so my ods of getting the new one are low. I end up just getting old four stars I already had at C6 for years already.
nin is the only one i've actually kept track of because of that infamous heizou banner, but I'm absolutely positive both benny and xinagling are in their c30s as well 💀
I've felt for a while that Genshin needs to address this issue in 3 ways: 1) Fate points for four stars on the featured banners. 2) The shop should have a single 4-star con (and a single 4 star weapon refinement) token for sale every month. New four stars will be added to the token 3-6 months after their initial release. Said token would expire 1 month after purchase, so no stockpiling. But short of it, after the initial period, you can make slow, steady progress toward the constellation you want, without a worry about who is featured on the banners. 3) They should be more generous with standard banner wishes. If you look at the latest anniversary, for example, we get 10 feature banner pulls... but no standard banner ones. We basically get 5 per month, plus from things like the "trees", and that's about it. None from events either. Added to that, they also need to quit tying certain four stars to certain five stars. Sure, it is great if you want Itto and you can get some Gorou cons at the same time. But it sucks when you don't want more Itto cons. Better hope you do want that one other character. And, of course, that means if the 5 star is slow to run again... Worth noting that, for the weapon banner, with 5 four-star weapons, the odds are even worse. You average 1 of a given one per five star, roughly. And, worse yet, unlike characters, they don't get added to the standard banner.
The last point YES! sara is a huge issue to this.. and I feel like cheveruse is ALSO going to be tied to raiden's hip for 0 fking reason... as if having sara wasn't enough for her greedy a$$..
to this day i have c2 raiden and c0 sara THIS IS RIDICULOUS. mind you, i play since inazuma, and she dropped only months after first raiden's banner... hoyo just doesn't want to give me sara😭😭

@@saurusness protip when pulling 4 stars : change your on-field character every 10 pull , don't just use the same character everytime if you do that RNG will go with certain pattern sometime the pattern good for you but alot of time ......not
So far I've been pretty lucky sniping the four stars that I want just *one* copy of, but there's so many that I'd LOVE to get higher cons but struggled to despite dropping tons of wishes... Kuki was the most painful one, C1 for over a year, plus I also have only one copy of Chevy. Really hope Hoyo add one of those solutions someday...

it took me 80 pulls to get Layla, Layla, a four star, 80 pulls. I had to wait forever to get more Kaveh cons, like forever, including more cons for Gaming and Layla. Let alone get cons for Kirara and Shinobu! There are a lot of 4 stars I love, and mainly use 4 stars. But getting cons is a NIGHTMARE! I wish I could get a Gaming con in Starglitter exchange..
I've given up on Genshin for a couple of reasons. My main thing is I didn't find the repeat in gameplay fun anymore. The other was how the Genshin team has and probably will continue to REFUSE to rework the character banners and I played Genshin from 1.0 to the last patch of 4.0. I've since moved over to Honkai Star Rail and the difference has been astronomical.
I tried Genshin after finishing Honkai and the experience of playing standard banner 4 stars is miserable. Honkai is bad in that regard too, but at least you get like 5 times more pulls with far less effort.
Recurring 4 star selectors tied to events in HSR is really helpful for those who are maybe 1 or 2 eidolon away from an important one. In the very least they seem to care more about their banners, for eg making the triple rerun banner system first, 4 star selectors, making a free 4 star and letting you get their eidolons via event (Hunt March ❤), all of which are a major leg up for new players as well as old ones.
The demoralizing factor is real. A friend of mine has had to spend like 160 pulls just for 1 copy of a 5 star, and she did this back to back to back, 3 times in a row of going deep, failing, then going deep for the guarantee. Whereas ive gotten multiple C2R1's in about HALF of her total wishes. She stopped playing altogether and i feel bad for her because she used to really love the game and we'd coop all the time but she just had such a horrific string of bad luck that it literally depressed her. I really hate how the wishing is in this game. Basically lost a friend off of it. The 4 stars dont help as well. She had to go DEEP for a character and the 4 stars were all units that she absolutely hated. Imagine going deep as hell and getting nothing but characters you despise. Man 😔.
lol your friend suck then :D Sorry to break it to you, but 160 pull for a 5 star is the norm, UNLESS you're really lucky with early 5 star, or wining the 50/50. way too many people have that as a normal pull experience, and that's why.. you always save pulls. your friend just expected way too much and compared herself to others luck, which is moronic. By the way, the game is not made to make you happy, but to make you salty so you spend money.
I agree its demoralizing. Still you can prepare mentally that a new char is 140 wishes and that in time you can get anything. Then if you are so demorilzed to a level to stop playng it means you are just mentaly weak or you dont like the game too much or ...just too poor. I still remember pulling my second 5 star Raiden. I did hoard 200 wishes and I tought I have a decent chance to get her to c2 cos it was supposed to make her OP. I got her on 145 pity... so it was pain... but it is what it is. Thats how Genshin makes money,
You're friend's luck sounds a little more like my own sometimes ngl 😅 Definitely how my genshin journey started 3 years ago; not a single 50/50 win or early 5 star in the first 6 months of playing. eventually things balanced out somewhat and I'd win roughly half of my 50/50s, but to this day I think I can count with one hand the earlies i've gotten! i'm still here and enjoying my time overall, but I do joke about being in an "ab*sive relationship" with hoyo where I think that they'll change for the better and one day treat me better hahaha
That's me right now. I lose almost every 50/50, and when I DO get early pity it's cause I lost the 50/50. When I do get the 50/50 it always takes 76-80 pulls 🙁 But I'll manage to get EVERY 4* before I get the 5*. On my side acc I win most 50/50 and get early pity like neuvi at 10, and c1 Mualani at 16 😐😐😐 but I don't invest in this acc

The issue with you is, you outta started to late and trying to hurry up and get the characters you want. Or... You haven't 100% teyvat cause you see it as a chore cause u can't get the character you want.
Completely agree, we need a targeting system for 4*, if not at least an epitomized path system. 4* weapon targeting would also be nice, I've only ever gotten one Sacrificial Fragments.

I'm pretty sure that soon their money-making calculations will say it's better to have some guarantee system for 4*. It worked for a while to keep people pulling but with time and more 4* added peoples frustration grows so it would be more beneficial to please them with a guarantee system
Very informative video, you left out something that aggrevates me most though which is that when going for a 10pull on a character banner sometimes the guaranteed 4 star is a weapon so out of 10 pulls you get 0 characters even though there is a weapon banner.
I hate the Mualani banner. I was aiming for Bennett to get him atleast to be a c6 but it's so fckng annoying that i got like over 16 copies of fvckng XINYAN everytime the purple wish comes out. It's so fckng bad I wanted a Bennett or atleast a kachina con. I've even pulled on the standard banner with my leftover blue fates and got 2 fvckng copies of Xinyan AGAIN. This girl won't LEAVE ME ALONE. a c6 Xinyan would be a great support and Pyro applier but too fvckng bat I lost to Tighnari so shes still gonna get benched
And here I am who wouldn't even be mad about Xinyan, because despite being a player that started when the game launched I only got a few of her constellations at this point, but all I got was a lot of Bennetts and at least one Kachina.
I'm right there with you. Unfortunately I already got bennett c6 and I didn't even want him past c5 so I didn't activate his c6, and then I pulled xinyan multiple times and I don't even use her 😭 only 1 kachina the entire time which is the only 4 star I wanted this banner
you either get the new 4-star on your pulls non-stop, or you get none at all. that has been my experience with pulling 4-stars. I remember getting C6 Dori after like less than 100 pulls, but maybe like 1 or 2 pulls of Gorou after getting 2 Itto pulls.
this feels like my experience too! 100 pulls and no kachina for me, while someone on my server got a full c6 in under 70 pulls. I've started to think that if i don't see the 4 star i want in the first 10 pull, I should try again on a different day to see if the chances "reset" themselves... perhaps i should have tried that with kachina :D
@@saurusness yeah, you can avoid pulling 4-star on a banner when you don't get one in 2 4-star pulls. better luck on next rerun, if they ever have a rerun that is at this point 💀
Your explanation made so much sense. I was so frustrated when I was pulling for Mika as a support to my Eula (in the Ayaka banner). I got Mika to C6 eventually, but only after I got C3 Ayaka, and losing the 50/50 many times lmfaooo.
1:04 First time? This happened to me way back in 1.4 during Tartaglia's rerun banner as I pulled 90 times to get a single copy of Rosaria. I lost my 50/50 to Qiqi and later got Childe. I didn't get Rosaria until the 10 pull after I already got Childe. She remained C0 for at least 2 years (she's still only C5 at the moment).
The demoralization is extreme and especially so when the gatcha system seems to favor or disdain others...and I for one seem disdained. Nearly have lost every single 50/50 and had to reach hard pity every time and even losing despite paying hurts even more with the utter disappointment of not even getting the character you want for $100+ - never whats worse is this hasn't changed for me, basically never a break or really much change in this "bad luck" since beginning my Genshin journey only a few months ago. I can only imagine how others feel too who are completely F2P or dolphins who still are deprived despite being willing to pay. Saving/light spending to only have it waste away into an unwanted Standard 5* or to hardly get the characters you want is so disappointing and frustrating, it is not rewarding or an incentive after being burned so many times I at least wish the system would prioritize giving you the 4 Star you don't own/the one you haven't maxxed out - like you mentioned, in the beginning when you have none, the chance is the same for any of them but then if it narrowed depending on what constellation you are at, this makes sense and would be a fix that would increase player satisfaction and rationale instead of pulling and getting a bunch of copies of units you already have C6 and would be an easy solution to this issue. This and adding more 4*s to the Star Glitter shop would be ideal, at least increasing the Star Glitter use and selection would be a huge start and I hope something is improved because as it stands, it inclines me no longer to spend
At this point, Hoyo should add a special Custom Banner at the end of every version. A chance for each player to create their perfect banner to pull on. Imagine how many pulls would be drained by players who had been waiting for those heavily desired units that just DIDN'T rerun during the entire version.
Seconded. Arknights added this for their old characters. Epic Seven has that for all of their basic RGB 5*s including Limited (excluding collab) which includes signature Artifact Equip
I would like that too! That's how i got my single copy of Mika; i pulled on the mondstat chronicled banner = didn't get a single copy on any of his other banners despite 80 or something pulls, but finally got one when pulling for a lost prayer!
Horrible idea imo. This was actually the case with the Chronicel wish banner, it had all the Mond 4stars at equal rates. Which is... really bad. Imagine wanting a specific character from there like mika, your odds of getting him are even lower than if he was on a rate up.
@@edenrav Not so. If the banner only contained Mondstadt characters, the chance of getting any one character like Mika would be significantly higher as there would be 0% chance to pull a non-Mondstadt character/weapon. A smaller total pool equals higher drop rates for those remaining.

I got the opposite. 160 pulls for Nahida, no to C6 Faruzan. Except I don't have any anemo DPS ! And then there is a french youtuber I follow named Nokapt that was genuinely brought to tears because he wanted C6 Gaming (who was offered at C0 !), and got Xianyun C3 first.
This issue with 4★ characters is the reason I do not even consider building anemo or geo DD. They are nigh unusable without c6 Faruzan/Goro and I am not going to spend half a year of wishes to get a 4★ whose usage is limited to a single team. I think in general it might impove Hoyo's sales, but for somebody like me it just means that I am not puling characters like Wanderer or Itto, effectively helping me to save more primos and spend less.
@@neramide3981 yeah, gorou is pretty much only "must have" if you dont pull for furina for whatever reason, and then again - he's a "must have" pretty much only for itto (and maybe chiori, not sure) cuz of his scaling. i dont think anyone else, including navia, benefits from him THAT much faruzan, on the other hand.....
Going from no Raiden to C2 Raiden (also losing every 50/50 on her too), and Sara is still not C6. Or spending 200 wishes and not getting a single copy of Sethos. I feel the pain. I am gonna pull on Kinich banner, cuz I want him, and I hope to finally C6 my Sara so I can use her with my C2 Raiden. Also, my Fischl is still not C6 yet, even if she is in the game since the beginning. I am really being hated by 4 star electro characters, even if electro is my favorite element.
i got 5 sethos' on alhaithams banner when i really only wanted one. i got him another time on the standard, so although its most likely bennet will be my first c6, there is a chance that sethos could take that spot with some luck. i spent about 130 on that banner all together, I think (I lost my 50/50 to qiqi and needed to quickly grind 70 pulls), but still, its wild I got that many of him.
As someone who has been playing since 2.8 and have 12 limited 5 star characters, and quite a lot of 5 star weapons, and almost every 4 star character in the game! I have never once pulled Xiangling. Not once. She’s on my account, yes. But she’s c0. And I have pulled on so many of her bloody banners. And she still refuses to come home. Edit: I use starglitter for wishes so I never have any to spend on characters
Considering she's on at least every third banner that is genuinely impressive. I know a lot of people don't like to get 4 stars from the shop, I am one of them, but in your case I don't think you have much of a choice.
@@lenniebrookes9393 Buying them from the store means sacrificing 7 pulls/pity towards 5 stars. 7 x 6 = 42 (if c0) or 7 x 7 = 49 (if you dont have the character), that much pity wasted just for one 4 star. Lots of people see this and choose not to buy them because it's just not worth it unless you're either rich or on a no 5 star account.
I was the same until I finally broke down and bought he c1 in paimons shop. Suddenly I started pulling her quite a bit. I think she's c5 now and I just got her c1 maybe the last time she was in the shop. Maybe time before that. Can't remember exactly when she was in there last lol
I have chevruese, faruzan and fischl on C6, solely due to good luck. It’s kind of crazy how one person can get, potentially, a C1 of a five star before they even get one copy of a four star, while someone else could get perhaps C4 of a four star before they even reach soft pity.
I remember when I dumped all my pulls on the Neuvillette banner because I wanted Diona c6 (don't need her anymore due to some team adjustments but still), I had only gotten her once on standard banner very early on in my account and I was setting myself with a realistic expectation of c3 at least, 110 pulls later, my previously c2 Xinqiu and c0 Fischl were now both c6, I got Neuvilette and even an early 30 pity Deyha, the amount of Dionas I got... 1. If it wasn't for the fact that every other character in that banner was S tier I would've been so mad, literally suffering from success.
i'd rather genshin implement HI3's system, where characters get added to the fragment store after some time and all u have to do is grind asterites to get the character for free. all 4 stars get added there for the regular fragment pricing and 5 stars can be bought as well but with an insane markup rate. same goes for weapons, i can't live with my R1 xiphos anymore

It's always been pretty common knowledge not to roll for 4 stars unless you want all the ones on the banner or the 5 star. This has been an issue since day 1 honestly. I still don't have some c6 4stars from launch. Honestly I really think they need to just let you pick the 4 stars you want on the banner. Or at least one of them. I don't think they're going to lose any money that way.
I wanna try wishing for Candace, Kaveh, and Sethos cons but seeing how grueling it is for others an how shitty my luck is, I’m not so sure It took me 3 years to get Razor (a 1.5 player)
I still have flashbacks from when I had to pull Keqing AND Shenhe, both on relatively high pity, before I got one Yun Jin. Now, Shenhe ended up being good in my Wrio team, and I like her as a whole, no regrets here, but the issue with the 4-stars still remains.
It's so wild how of an oddity in the Gacha game Genshin truly is. It is one of my first game in this genre and only realized how weird it was when I started playing others, especially Cookie Run Kingdom. There are, as of writing this comment, around 130 characters. The only ones I don't have are literally those I didn't pull for/skiped the season, yet I know I can get them whenever *in the basic pull* (almost all of them, there are still exception here and there that you kind of have to pay for, but they're not the basic characters). There are many differences, the first one being that there are more than 2 ranks of rarity. A new one "Beasts" has recently been added because of story reasons (and they're incredibly hard to get), there are the "rare" "epic" "ancient" etc... depending on their role in the story (and I've noticed how much people hate some 5* Genshin characters because of their lack of presence in the story, which is fair). Another one is the "soul jam", basically the stuff that you use to "Ascend" the characters... but also to *unlock* them. So, if you are a new player and pulls regularly even on the basic one, you'll still end up with the most basic character at some point. And even after fully ascending them, their "soul jam" will turn into ingame currency to buy different stuff (which is common on most gacha games, but I feel it's easier to get useful stuff in Cookie Run Kingdom that Genshin).
I don't think a lot of these fixes are likely, but I do think we're at the point where we need a third character banner, and they need to have distinct 4 stars on each banner. Same crappy odds and problems but it would give players even more permutations, increasing the chance of a banner being enticing for having skne high value stuff on it. Hoyo has always been odd because it's banners are *so* hyperfixated on the one 5 star character that 4 stars feel like a genuine afterthought, and it's money being left on the table
It's wild to me that after almost 4 years I've only managed to get Amber to C5. When she rolls around in the Starglitter shop in October I'll finally have attained C6, but man...
Amber, Lisa, and Kaeya only appear in the standard banner, so that sounds about right on why you don’t have her at C6. Unless you were actually pulling on the standard banner.
Its a shame They don't get up'd on banners at all, I've gotten all my standard five stars c6 from standard before I even got one amber con that wasn't from the shop and its a real pain in the ass.
I was lucky and got Lisa and Amber's C1 back when Inazuma came out. There weren't nearly as many four stars as there are now, but I really wanted Kaeya. I managed to get his c6 but only from the shop and it took me 4 years. I haven't gotten any of cons of them since that patch. They really are rarer than a c6 five star at this point.
I have been playing genshin from the early days and got early 4 stars c6s very easily, i thought I was unlucky not getting the new ones but more the number less the acquisition rate , I need a Charlotte for my furina freeze team......... And the new full screen ui is just chef's kiss 😘✨
I feel this. On the previous Raiden Shogun banner, when Chevreuse debuted, I really wanted her, and it felt like a good banner regardless. My Raiden was C1 (with my next 5* being a guaranteed pull), my Bennett and Sara were both C0, and I really wanted Chevy. What could go wrong, right? Well, I got Raiden to C4 (2 of those were back-to-back 50/50 wins) and I got bothe Bennett and Sara to C6, which was extremely nice. But I only pulled Chevreuse once, she's currently C0. And now she's back, along with Raiden and Sara. I'm no whale, not even a dolphin. I only rarely buy Welkins and BPs. If I could only get Chevreuse to C6, I would have a very powerful Raiden/Bennett/Sara/Chevreuse team.
That's why, I'm (F2P) still contemplating doing more pulls on the Raiden/Kinich banner. I don't have or want either but I want cons for Chevruse (C0 rn). But it took me over 100 pulls and getting slapped by C4 Dehya to get my first copy (at least no 50/50 for Xiolonen) ... Chev is so good with my Arlecchino though.
I can’t say I would ever stop playing just because I didn’t get something easy but it’s still a valid problem that creates fake frustration for us all no matter if you’re a f2p or whale or anyone else
That first minute is so relatable. Kinich's banner just dropped, and i wanted to pull on it for him as well as Chevreusse and Kujou Sara, and both of these 4 stars had no constellations. 70 pulls in, what did i get? Kinich, 3 Sac bows, 3 of Kujou, and 4 of Thoma. Happened on the banner with Sethos as well on 2 separate accounts. I got NO constellations for Sethos and about 12 of Thoma. And Thoma had been c6 on both accounts WELL IN ADVANCE
my partner is having this problem with gaming rn since they enjoy plunging dps's, he currently only c4 i think and that's only because they got lucky on the standard banner. I also have had this issue with Kaveh it took 400 pulls and 2 banners since I don't spend really, and I only got 1 copy of him in that whole time. Genshin does really need to fix this issue.
I feel like they should change the way the stella fortuna works (the thingy to unlock a constellation). If I get a 4 star that I already got c6 on, I would much rather be able to keep the stella fortuna (instead of having it changed to starglitter) in order to use it on a different character (maybe a way to avoid people using this on 5 stars could be to make two different types of stella fortuna)
I totally feel you, liked your analysis and it's a great work overall. The proposed solutions are great as well, the most relevant is stop getting copies after C6, that would make a lot people happier... I think that a shard system would be good, where you convert your constellation excess to convert it into something more necessary, whether primos or copies of characters... But yes, the main premise stays. Something must be done about the 4* system
I recently started playing genshin back in February and I can't help but think of what happened to me on the 4.5 banners. I had spent 190 wishes and had got both Neuvillette and Kazuha. But somehow I didn't get a single Xingqiu. I instead got 8 Yanfei and 5 Barabas. It's really disappointing to me that even after spending every wish I had to the last minute of the banner that I didn't get a single Xingqiu.
They should introduce a system where you select 3 four-stars out of a rotating pool of 6 or so. Kind of like how on mystic summons in epic seven, you can select 1 out of 4 or so to lock in during the banner.
I’ve played this game since just after launch and I kid you not, I COULD NOT pull a single Sucrose until the middle of FONTAINE. Best part was I got her from the WEAPON BANNER. I remember specifically pulling on limited banners she was featured in and she just eluded my account for years.

A solution for this would be to allow you to choose a 4 star to increase their drop rate on any banner compared to any other 4 star. Or maybe make them guaranteed if you select them and end up rolling a 4 star on that banner. Or something a little more quirky, a 4 star banner which saves your pity/luck for when you do go to the 5 star banner. So like if someone uses the 4 star banner to max out Kachina and then go to pull for Mualani the rate is boosted so much that a 5* is guaranteed and perhaps guaranteed for even the next and the next depending on how many times you've pulled on a 4* banner. But yep 4 stars are definitely harder to get which makes me worried since people are saying Iansan is a 4 star. But at least Genshin has a lot of the cute ones. Been waiting ages for Star Rail to add more cute short ones since launch. And ZZZ might not even get any of them. Sad. So I'm much more happy with Genshin despite this.
Yeah. I’ve experienced this before. Three times that I can recall, the first was in 3.4 I pulled for and got Yelan but I wasn’t too interested in her, I really wanted Xingqiu constellations, and Xinyan too (I was short on Pyro characters at the time, I only had Amber). The second time was in 3.8, but then again I only tried (but this time succeeded in getting C6 Faruzan after I got Wanderer, and I still wound up with 4 five stars over the course of that patch; that’s how many wishes it took to C6 Faruzan. The most recent time was in 4.3, I somehow got Raiden from not having her to C2 while trying and failing to C6 Chevreuse And I got what feels like C34 Bennett and C15 Sara. That one still bites. Yeah… the 4 star situation kinda sucks.
I was so worried I wouldn’t get Chevreuse of Raidens banner. I got raiden early!! Yay, right? No. I didn’t get a single Chevreuse and she is one of my favorite characters. I ended up getting her 40 pulls after Raiden. It’s so stupid you can just get random 4 stars instead of the 4 stars on a banner.
It's sad that genshin is like this, like the staple for gotchas is that 4star/rare promoted characters are supposed to be a consolation prize for not getting the 5star/ultra rare promoted character but at this point genshin has it the other way around. Like there was one time in a single 10 pull on a Cyno rerun i got 3 Kuki Shinobus when if I remember I was just trying to get a copy of Kirara, and that didn't happen till another 20 pulls. It also doesn't help that even though you're guaranteed a 4 star every 10 pulls it is not even guaranteed you get a character, I've always felt that its unreasonable for you to be able to get 4 star weapon drops from the character banners when they literally have a separate banner for them.
I remember that Kuki/Kirara/Xiangling banner very well. I had neither Kuki nor Kirara, and was looking for a single copy of either of them. Instead, I got FOUR Xianglings in a row and a five star at 39 pity. (:

I am f2p and have been saving for months now for neuvi and arle rerun. I have 330 wishes currently and want to get cons/signiatures. BUT i still don't have cheveruse and want her for arle. I have guarenteed 50/50 and am absolutely dreading her appearing on raidens banner. If i have to waste 70+ wishes or even a lot more and getting raiden or kinich in the process it will seriously screw up my plans
My experience is that I wanted a Kujou Sara on the last Banner, I ended up with C2-->C5 Chevreuse C0-->C4 Thoma and a C0 Keqing, AND ONE SINGLE KUJOU SARA
Didnt expect to feel this. From the time i first pulled her ive wanted to build a sub dps kujou sara but i really needed her sec cons. Fast forward and i finally got her second cons this week. So wild that i had to wait so long for it.
6:39 i pulled for kaveh on baizhu banner as well and never got him but did get baizhu.......we saw how long it took for him to come out, and they held him from me as long as possible when he finally did come back. I just wanted AlHaitham to have his husband 😭😭😭
In general, I feel I am overall pretty lucky, at least in the sense that I get the characters at least once, but I also stopped looking for constellations and just take them once they come. I had two four star characters that I didn't get on release (Kirara and Mika), but I still got them over time, so I can't really complain. Of course, there is the issue of getting constellations for these 4* characters, but while I agree that they typically gain a lot of strength from their C6, they are usually far from unplayable at lower constellations. Let's take Faruzan as an example, because she was one of those that I remember this discussion about. Of course, her C6 is really strong, because it basically solves her energy problems for her. However, it's not impossible for her to be used without C6 (I know because I did). You just have to build a lot more ER on her. Which of course reduces her own damage, but it still allows her to buff your Xiao or Wanderer. Did the team increase significantly in strength once I got C6? Of course and not just because I could swap out ER pieces for damage pieces, but because C6 made grouping of enemies even easier. Therefore, I feel, people should stop seeing C6 as a necessity for these characters to be played. In most cases they increase your damage, but if you build them properly you can still beat the highest level content. With C6 that just makes it a lot easier. That isn't to say that I don't agree with the problem in general. I think it is a problem that should at least be adressed. One "solution" I rarely see is that you can just give each banner of the two that run simultaneously, their own characters. Which would give you a total of 6 per banner and a total of 12 per version, which would make it easier to rotate all these characters. Of course, this means, it will be more likely for some characters to be on a banner you don't want the 5 star character from, but since they could rerun earlier, I don't see this as a general problem. So in conclusion, I agree that they should change something. But I would also advise (especially newer) players to stop thinking that 4 star characters can only be properly played at C6. There should be a split when talking about teams between those that have and those that don't have C6, but we should stop acting as if you can't do stuff with these character as long as you haven't maxed their constellations.

I think that genshin needs to take notes from that cookie kingdom game from 2020, where if you wish and get enough of a characters “soul gems” (I think it was 20) then you can unlock the character, surely they could include some sort of like “stars” or something for the constellations, where if you get enough stars from wishing, you can unlock a constellation for a four star, or just unlock the four star in general. They could easily include like a set “path” for a higher chance of getting a select 4 stars “stars” or something. This also would help the issue of the banner loot being generally useless. And if not this, they could atleast give us the option to sort of cancel the chances of getting a 4 star once you get its C6, as it’s very annoying that the chances of getting a character you have at C6 is still the same as any other.
MFW I dont even have Sucrose or Sayu, and most of my 4 stars are C0 because every time I want someone new freakin Xiangling ALWAYS runs with them for some reason, shes been C6 since I came back. I have like a C50 Xiangling and a C10 Bennett, ugh. I don't even like Xiangling all that much mostly because of how many times I've seen her. "OH BUT SHES META AF!!!!" Don't really care tbh.
For some background, I started playing just after release and I'm super low spender (as in i bought welkin maybe 3-4 times in all these years) and wow is it so much more difficult to get 4 stars you want nowdays. My biggest struggle is with Collei who I love and have spent a lot of time building. For the longest time I only had her at C1 and even that was because we got free copies of her. I managed to get a single copy off banner few weeks and the fact that she is only now C2 is ridiculous. I'm hoping this banner will give me at least one copy because I'm desperate to C6 her :((

To be real, there's not really that many good 4* characters. Sure you can get emotionally attached to any of them but that does only make it good for you. For that reason I think the "dynamic odds" is a bad idea because a lot of people will prefer refund of one wish (after getting a character they already have at C6) over another constellation for a character they don't even intend to play. How much the 4* strategy affects Hoyo's bottom line is uncertain. Note that they only make extra money from people that spend on genesis crystals when they want to pull. With F2P, Welkin users, battlepassers, even those who buy out the shop once a year there's absolutely no change on Hoyo's profits regardless what's on the banners. And with those who pay for their pulls, it really only changes something if they get unwanted 5*s in the process, even unexpected 50/50 losses don't count. But I do believe we might be getting a change to the system relatively soon, just from how many QoL changes are being made to the game recently. They did shoot some really big shots with 5.0, both fate reduction in weapons banner and effective change of 50/50 to 55/45 (yes I know the mechanics) will in my opinion affect their "nothing else changed" per player profits much more significantly than any changes in 4* strategy.
I know its not related to the content of the video but how did they pick up all the drops at 1:31 so quickly, its like they only pressed one button and it scooped everything up instantly.
I pulled from 0 pity to 64-something pity for Kaveh on the Navia/Nilou banner. I got him after over 60 pulls. Before that I had gotten 4 Ningguangs (when she was already C4) and two weapons. I wanted to throw the entire PC into the ocean.
Ive wished for gorou in every itto banner and i got my first copy of him on the standard banner lmao i managed to get him to c5 after that and i just got my last copy this week on standard banner AGAIN, im usually lucky with 4 stars though, i always get them at least c0 and the ones i havent oulled because i already had the 5 stars came later on events. Even then i still dont have fischl c6, ive only gotten her to c3 😔
The annoying thing is Genshin already has a solution to this issue and it is called the Starglitter exchange. They just refuse to increase the number of 4 stars in the store and update the roster to include newer 4 stars. It hasn't been updated since 1.0 and in that time they have added a 5 star in the standard banner.
They recently decided to add a crown to it, which I believe is the first change to that shop since 1.0... so maybe there's hope someday for more changes to that shop

Admittedly you can't buy your first copy, you need to already own them, but if I was just looking for a single copy to hit a needed constellation this would be so good.

And that's why this game can't blabb new players in for the most part. Genshin consist of old whales, dolphins and a bunch of old f2p by now who have sunk cost fallacy going either with money or time. Who in their right mind starts Genshin in 2024? They have missed ALL the event items, weapons etc. Event weapons are PARAMOUNT for ANY Character to work if you want to stay 100% f2p. Even spenders are struggeling to equip ther characters with billet only and pulled weapons.

You are absolutely correct. This probably wasn't much of an issue when the game was very young. Now the problem has just gotten worse and worse. There's way too many 4-stars and 5-stars, and the current system hasn't adapted to cope. Heck, we're still waiting on some 5-stars to have their very first rerun, i.e., Wriothesley

nearly a day 1 player and off the top of my head I got 6 C5, I CANNOT imagine the struggle new players have when so many 4* require at least C2-4 to be at all viable for endgame. Wishing for a 4* event banner or a 4* selector on 5* banner
And it's even worse than that since SO many guides just assume that everyone has those characters, so like 3/4 of the teams people suggest are gonna be ones which a newer player literally cannot use...
Yeah, I've called out a few content creators on that, when they're ranking C6 four stars and C0 five stars... that C6 four star just isn't realistic for any newer four star even for us older players who whale a bit. There are just too many four stars, with too much time between them, and if the four star doesn't line up with a five star you want... Like, okay, I didn't mind getting a C3 Raiden, so I could risk going for a copy of Chevy. But most of my five stars are at the point I want them, with the next con or two being relatively unappealing. And the five stars I don't have that re-run, well, I don't want them. If I did, I'd have them already.
And for new players, especially F2P... that many five stars out there to chase, that many four stars... they are so screwed.
Been playing for 3 years and my three copies (c2) off xinqiu are all from lantern rites lol. He evaded me on every darned banner I tried to snipe him in.
If you're day 1 player you SHOULD have at least a couple of c6 4*, i have like 10 or so and i'm completely f2p

As a F2P veteran I always took my c4 Fischl for granted

Allow me to introduce myself. I am the guy who spent $350 on the Yoimiya Childe rerun banner to pull a SINGLE copy of Layla on release. Now it’s bad enough that poor Layla took that many ten pulls to come home, but what makes my experience far worse is that fact that every single four star pull that wasn’t a weapon was heizou. I received 13 heizou’s in a row. The probability of which is 1/1594323. I’m quite the lucky guy, amirite?

As a complete F2P, I think 5-star characters are more F2P friendly. I have a C0 Kazuha and C0 Sucrose: almost two years of playing and there is no way I could get her C6. My Fischl is still C2, because I am slowly buying her consts from the shop. Fortunately, now the fate points requirement on the weapon banner has been decreased to 1, so I think the weapon banner will also be more F2P friendly.

The first five star I got in game was Xiao, and I've mained him ever since his first banner and...yeah, Faruzan was a nightmare for me. I lost my 50/50 to Qiqi, and got TWO Wanderers before I got my first Faruzan. It took me 204 pulls before I got her. The fact that she basically needs C6 to be optimal is infuriating as a Xiao enjoyer. I'm currently stuck at C2. I really wish they'd optimize four stars.
As Faruzan Main, that's infuriating, because Xiao is my favorite DPS but that is so sad the struggle!

honestly this problem could be fixed easily by doing one or all of the following;
1) Add a 4 star only banner, absolutely NO CHANCE of pulling a 5 star.
2) Add a system where, on banners with rate up for 4 stars, you are able to CHOOSE which three 4 stars you pull for alongaide the 5 star, from a pool of maybe 10 characters, rotating the pool with every banner.
3) When you C6 a character the game should DESELECT THEM from banner pulls, like adding them to a blacklist that tells the banner system "no more of this character please".
The problem is these suggestions are bad for Mihoyo because they'll lead to less money being made. The faster players can get what they want, the less they'll need to wish on banners and their incentive to spend money will be lower. So these suggestions, while good for the players, do not benefit the developers and likely won't happen.
@holycheburek6298 firstly, don't defend the bad practices of companies who don't even care you exist; Hoyo is a multi BILLION dollar company, they can ease up on squeezing their player bases dry, they just won't because greed.
secondly, less pulls is still people pulling, whales are gonna' whale and dolphins are gonna' dolphin, the income will drop but I doubt it'll drop by enough to make a dent.
thirdly, nothing is stopping Hoyo from making more paid OPTIONAL content, like special skins with unique effects as they did with Diluc. Players will absolutely spend IRL money on that stuff AND it isn't tied to your ability to play the dang game.

Suggestions are always good! However, from how I've seen Genshin's developers actually implement them (a perfect example the artifact transmuter that does exactly what the community suggested, but is actually usable so incredibly rarely that it hardly changes anything), it's like wishing with a monkey paw. So we should expect that even if the suggestions are implemented, they'll be nowhere nearly as straightforwardly useful for the players as we hope them to be.
Albeit there is one argument in your favor, that being the change to the weapon banner to only needing 1 fate point instead of 2, so maybe you're right and we can expect at least something similar to your suggestions after all. While it is an example of them losing some profit for the sake of more attention and regaining even more profit, it's also actually good for players. So maybe you are right to be more confident in their ability to implement such suggestions!
In conclusion I personally think that if there will ever be a 4 star banner, a 4 star epitomized path, or anything of the sort - then it'll only be added as one of the ways of bringing back more attention to the game and it'll likely take a while for us to actually see this happen, plus it might be a rare banner. It's likely we'll see a new limited event banner to make up for how rarely some characters get reruns, or a return of the chronicled wish, before they implement something for the 4 stars. But as for it will actually be added in the first place... Well, at least it doesn't sounds impossible.
The first suggestion is kinda bad ngl, why would I spend my hard earned primos just for some 4 stars when most of them are rather subpar or not interesting to me when I can just save for a 5 star with better animations? This also doesn't address the problem that the 4 star characters in the game are just genuinely too bloated so getting the specific one you want will still be a pain. The other suggestions are fine though.

Myself and several genshin friends would indeed benefit from a 4 star banner, they use Bennett often and I have Kaeya on several teams, but in my 4 years of playing genshin Kaeya is only C2 (although there is an issue with the starters being stupidly hard to roll for some reason but that's another story lol).
I do agree that 4 stars are getting bloated, unfortunately that's just the natural way gacha games tend to end up, giving us an even amount of 4s to 5s wouldn't make 5 stars feel special anymore or something like that.
Though saying that I would like more 5 stars to work with, especially when there are some element-weapon combos we just don't have yet!
As a Kaeya main, I feel this on a spiritual level. It took me 2.5 years to get all 6 copies of him. I also wanted C6 Kaveh so I went all out for him too, but until now I only have him C3 despite having Baizhu and 2 Jeans (1 from his rerun on Nilou's banner) from trying to get him.
As another kaeya main I'm really pissed he doesn't get up'd. Pulling wise I've gotten Him once on standard which was what got me C5 kaeya(got his other cons in shop) which is annoying as hell because I managed to C6 all my standard five stars before reaching c5 kaeya.

On a separate but similar subject, one thing that has really bugged me lately is the infrequency of certain 4-star weapon series. I looked at the most recent Banner History spreadsheet over on Reddit and became frustrated when I saw the all-too-frequent appearances of some weapons. Dragon's Bane has appeared 28 times, Favonious Lance has been on 27 banners, The Flute, Eye of Perception, Sac Fragments have all been on 15 banners. If you've played Genshin for any reasonable length you've seen the same 4-star weapons appear time after time for years now. What I find so maddening is that there are weapon series who've been out for years and have only appear three to five times. The Waratsumi series, the Alley series, the Lithic series, the Tulaytullah and the most recent Fontainian Construction series all have seven or fewer appearances meanwhile the Bell has appeared two to three times as often. With 5.1, Genshin will add three new 4-star weapons to the armory, however I am worried that Rainslasher will appear 10 more times before we see a single one of them rerun.
I truly don't understand why EVERY weapon banner doesn't have multiple exclusive 4 stars. Why would I want to pull for weapons I ALREADY GET from the character banner? I have gotten nineteen copies of lion's roar, do they really think I want to pull on a banner with it?

To play Devil's advocate, much as Bennett and Xiangling are busted 4-stars that help a lot of beginners, the Favonius line of weapon (mainly the Bow and Lance due to the number of Ult dependant in those categories) is busted and helps a lot.
But yeah, so many weapon like Xiphos should have been put again on the line. Like you said, I wish for example they put the Lithic line available at least during the "Lantern Rite" patch, seems like the most fitting.

Everyone on the server already knows this, but my experience trying to get Layla was truly a fever dream. 2 Baizhus, 1 Scara, lots of the other 2 4* and to this day I still have no Layla. The lack of 4* guarantee is honestly so bad, especially now with so many characters that people already have at c6. I didn't get Kuki on her last banner either, I don't even remember who she ran with or when, I don't remember whether I even got the 5* during that time or if I got any 5* at all, all I remember is that I didn't get her. The experience that I'll never be able to forget is pulling for Layla. I wish each nation had a yearly 4* selector like Liyue during Lantern Rite, it would make the experience a lot easier to handle even if they keep the same banner system for 4*. They truly do need to pull themselves together and update the starglitter store tho. I wouldn't be nearly as pissed if I could just wait for Layla and Kuki to be buyable.

yeah this... plus fontaine had such a small roster of 4 stars. I might be the only one but both mualani and kinich kinda seemed four star to me, the grapple and the surfing seem more "fun" then super powerful. I know mualani can get huge numbers but since kachina was a four star it would of made sense for her friends to be as well.

On average it takes THREE 5* to c6 a 4*. So in order to play 1 5star, you need 3 others (or a c2), which likely won't even be on his team.
Why is nobody talking about Charlotte, though? I'ts been a year since her release on Wrio's banner and hasn't reappeared ever since. And she is a great unit for Furina and Neuvillette teams. And I still haven't got a single copy of her either. :T

She's legit amazing, hers was one of the few debut banners I had really good luck on - even at C0 she did roughly the same healing as my very well-built Jean, and at C6 she's just amazing with Furina. Definitely deserves some love.

Bennet on the other hand is like c50 .... some of the 4* I was really interested in I never got, like Layla, Sethos, Shinobu.... So relatable. I'm one of the few who actually likes barbara, and I never get her cons. I think she's c1. Meanwhile bennet is my only c6 I think, and I didn't even activate his c6 because I was concerned about limiting what teams he would fit with if I did and i enjoy playing him with anyone I want. Another way of solving this issue would be with a 4* selector. For each limited banner the devs would choose two of the 4* characters and let the players choose the last slot. If they want to have more control they can limit which characters are selectable.

70% of my banner 5 stars i have were me trying to get a 4 star like kokomi, ayaka, C1 itto, yoimiya, Raiden and mualani, the only 5 star characters i got by actually trying to get them were hutao, venti, nahida and itto (then i got his C1 trying for kuki)
As someone who runs faruzun quite a lot since I main anemo DPS it has taken me well over 1300 wishes to get her fully c6 I got lucky once on the standard banner but in terms of wishing on a single banner that’s only available for 20 days once in a blue moon is just not feasible anymore the shop needs to be updated with more characters via star glitter otherwise getting the majority of 4 stars to a viable standard is just more of a demoralising grind since you could be waiting years

Fun fact. My Xiangling is C31. I use a website to track my wishes. The oldest 4 stars have constilation count in the 30s and the newest 4 stars I basically have none of them. I think its because every new banner has two old 4 stars and one new one so my ods of getting the new one are low. I end up just getting old four stars I already had at C6 for years already.

I've felt for a while that Genshin needs to address this issue in 3 ways:
1) Fate points for four stars on the featured banners.
2) The shop should have a single 4-star con (and a single 4 star weapon refinement) token for sale every month. New four stars will be added to the token 3-6 months after their initial release. Said token would expire 1 month after purchase, so no stockpiling. But short of it, after the initial period, you can make slow, steady progress toward the constellation you want, without a worry about who is featured on the banners.
3) They should be more generous with standard banner wishes. If you look at the latest anniversary, for example, we get 10 feature banner pulls... but no standard banner ones. We basically get 5 per month, plus from things like the "trees", and that's about it. None from events either.
Added to that, they also need to quit tying certain four stars to certain five stars. Sure, it is great if you want Itto and you can get some Gorou cons at the same time. Worth noting that, for the weapon banner, with 5 four-star weapons, the odds are even worse. You average 1 of a given one per five star, roughly. And, worse yet, unlike characters, they don't get added to the standard banner.

So far I've been pretty lucky sniping the four stars that I want just *one* copy of, but there's so many that I'd LOVE to get higher cons but struggled to despite dropping tons of wishes... Kuki was the most painful one, C1 for over a year, plus I also have only one copy of Chevy. Really hope Hoyo add one of those solutions someday...

I had to wait forever to get more Kaveh cons, like forever, including more cons for Gaming and Layla. Let alone get cons for Kirara and Shinobu! There are a lot of 4 stars I love, and mainly use 4 stars. But getting cons is a NIGHTMARE! I wish I could get a Gaming con in Starglitter exchange..
I've given up on Genshin for a couple of reasons. My main thing is I didn't find the repeat in gameplay fun anymore. The other was how the Genshin team has and probably will continue to REFUSE to rework the character banners and I played Genshin from 1.0 to the last patch of 4.0. I've since moved over to Honkai Star Rail and the difference has been astronomical.
I tried Genshin after finishing Honkai and the experience of playing standard banner 4 stars is miserable. Honkai is bad in that regard too, but at least you get like 5 times more pulls with far less effort.
Recurring 4 star selectors tied to events in HSR is really helpful for those who are maybe 1 or 2 eidolon away from an important one.
In the very least they seem to care more about their banners, for eg making the triple rerun banner system first, 4 star selectors, making a free 4 star and letting you get their eidolons via event (Hunt March ❤), all of which are a major leg up for new players as well as old ones.
The demoralizing factor is real. A friend of mine has had to spend like 160 pulls just for 1 copy of a 5 star, and she did this back to back to back, 3 times in a row of going deep, failing, then going deep for the guarantee. Whereas ive gotten multiple C2R1's in about HALF of her total wishes. She stopped playing altogether and i feel bad for her because she used to really love the game and we'd coop all the time but she just had such a horrific string of bad luck that it literally depressed her. I really hate how the wishing is in this game. Basically lost a friend off of it. The 4 stars dont help as well. She had to go DEEP for a character and the 4 stars were all units that she absolutely hated. Imagine going deep as hell and getting nothing but characters you despise. Man 😔.

I agree its demoralizing. Still you can prepare mentally that a new char is 140 wishes and that in time you can get anything.

I still remember pulling my second 5 star Raiden. I did hoard 200 wishes and I tought I have a decent chance to get her to c2 cos it was supposed to make her OP. I got her on 145 pity... so it was pain... but it is what it is. Thats how Genshin makes money,
You're friend's luck sounds a little more like my own sometimes ngl 😅 Definitely how my genshin journey started 3 years ago; not a single 50/50 win or early 5 star in the first 6 months of playing. eventually things balanced out somewhat and I'd win roughly half of my 50/50s, but to this day I think I can count with one hand the earlies i've gotten!
i'm still here and enjoying my time overall, but I do joke about being in an "ab*sive relationship" with hoyo where I think that they'll change for the better and one day treat me better hahaha
That's me right now. I lose almost every 50/50, and when I DO get early pity it's cause I lost the 50/50. When I do get the 50/50 it always takes 76-80 pulls 🙁 But I'll manage to get EVERY 4* before I get the 5*.
On my side acc I win most 50/50 and get early pity like neuvi at 10, and c1 Mualani at 16 😐😐😐 but I don't invest in this acc

I'm pretty sure that soon their money-making calculations will say it's better to have some guarantee system for 4*. It worked for a while to keep people pulling but with time and more 4* added peoples frustration grows so it would be more beneficial to please them with a guarantee system
Very informative video, you left out something that aggrevates me most though which is that when going for a 10pull on a character banner sometimes the guaranteed 4 star is a weapon so out of 10 pulls you get 0 characters even though there is a weapon banner.
I hate the Mualani banner. I was aiming for Bennett to get him atleast to be a c6 but it's so fckng annoying that i got like over 16 copies of fvckng XINYAN everytime the purple wish comes out. It's so fckng bad I wanted a Bennett or atleast a kachina con.
I've even pulled on the standard banner with my leftover blue fates and got 2 fvckng copies of Xinyan AGAIN. This girl won't LEAVE ME ALONE. a c6 Xinyan would be a great support and Pyro applier but too fvckng bat I lost to Tighnari so shes still gonna get benched
And here I am who wouldn't even be mad about Xinyan, because despite being a player that started when the game launched I only got a few of her constellations at this point, but all I got was a lot of Bennetts and at least one Kachina.

you either get the new 4-star on your pulls non-stop, or you get none at all. that has been my experience with pulling 4-stars.
I remember getting C6 Dori after like less than 100 pulls, but maybe like 1 or 2 pulls of Gorou after getting 2 Itto pulls.
this feels like my experience too! 100 pulls and no kachina for me, while someone on my server got a full c6 in under 70 pulls. I've started to think that if i don't see the 4 star i want in the first 10 pull, I should try again on a different day to see if the chances "reset" themselves... perhaps i should have tried that with kachina :D

Your explanation made so much sense. I was so frustrated when I was pulling for Mika as a support to my Eula (in the Ayaka banner). I got Mika to C6 eventually, but only after I got C3 Ayaka, and losing the 50/50 many times lmfaooo.
1:04 First time? This happened to me way back in 1.4 during Tartaglia's rerun banner as I pulled 90 times to get a single copy of Rosaria. I lost my 50/50 to Qiqi and later got Childe. I didn't get Rosaria until the 10 pull after I already got Childe. She remained C0 for at least 2 years (she's still only C5 at the moment).
The demoralization is extreme and especially so when the gatcha system seems to favor or disdain others...and I for one seem disdained. Nearly have lost every single 50/50 and had to reach hard pity every time and even losing despite paying hurts even more with the utter disappointment of not even getting the character you want for $100+ - never whats worse is this hasn't changed for me, basically never a break or really much change in this "bad luck" since beginning my Genshin journey only a few months ago. I can only imagine how others feel too who are completely F2P or dolphins who still are deprived despite being willing to pay. Saving/light spending to only have it waste away into an unwanted Standard 5* or to hardly get the characters you want is so disappointing and frustrating, it is not rewarding or an incentive after being burned so many times
I at least wish the system would prioritize giving you the 4 Star you don't own/the one you haven't maxxed out - like you mentioned, in the beginning when you have none, the chance is the same for any of them but then if it narrowed depending on what constellation you are at, this makes sense and would be a fix that would increase player satisfaction and rationale instead of pulling and getting a bunch of copies of units you already have C6 and would be an easy solution to this issue. This and adding more 4*s to the Star Glitter shop would be ideal, at least increasing the Star Glitter use and selection would be a huge start and I hope something is improved because as it stands, it inclines me no longer to spend
At this point, Hoyo should add a special Custom Banner at the end of every version. A chance for each player to create their perfect banner to pull on.
Imagine how many pulls would be drained by players who had been waiting for those heavily desired units that just DIDN'T rerun during the entire version.

I would like that too! That's how i got my single copy of Mika; i pulled on the mondstat chronicled banner = didn't get a single copy on any of his other banners despite 80 or something pulls, but finally got one when pulling for a lost prayer!

@@edenrav Not so. If the banner only contained Mondstadt characters, the chance of getting any one character like Mika would be significantly higher as there would be 0% chance to pull a non-Mondstadt character/weapon. A smaller total pool equals higher drop rates for those remaining.

And then there is a french youtuber I follow named Nokapt that was genuinely brought to tears because he wanted C6 Gaming (who was offered at C0 !), and got Xianyun C3 first.
This issue with 4★ characters is the reason I do not even consider building anemo or geo DD. They are nigh unusable without c6 Faruzan/Goro and I am not going to spend half a year of wishes to get a 4★ whose usage is limited to a single team.
I think in general it might impove Hoyo's sales, but for somebody like me it just means that I am not puling characters like Wanderer or Itto, effectively helping me to save more primos and spend less.
After Furina's exit, Gorou is redundant. DMG is noticeably better, so I disagree that the geo element is useless without him.

Going from no Raiden to C2 Raiden (also losing every 50/50 on her too), and Sara is still not C6. Or spending 200 wishes and not getting a single copy of Sethos. I feel the pain. I am gonna pull on Kinich banner, cuz I want him, and I hope to finally C6 my Sara so I can use her with my C2 Raiden. Also, my Fischl is still not C6 yet, even if she is in the game since the beginning. I am really being hated by 4 star electro characters, even if electro is my favorite element.

i got 5 sethos' on alhaithams banner when i really only wanted one. i got him another time on the standard, so although its most likely bennet will be my first c6, there is a chance that sethos could take that spot with some luck. i spent about 130 on that banner all together, I think (I lost my 50/50 to qiqi and needed to quickly grind 70 pulls), but still, its wild I got that many of him.
As someone who has been playing since 2.8 and have 12 limited 5 star characters, and quite a lot of 5 star weapons, and almost every 4 star character in the game! I have never once pulled Xiangling. Not once. She’s on my account, yes. But she’s c0. And I have pulled on so many of her bloody banners. And she still refuses to come home.

Considering she's on at least every third banner that is genuinely impressive. I know a lot of people don't like to get 4 stars from the shop, I am one of them, but in your case I don't think you have much of a choice.

Lots of people see this and choose not to buy them because it's just not worth it unless you're either rich or on a no 5 star account.

I only got Kaveh at C0 after 150 pulls on Nilou and Navia's banner. I got Dehya and a C1 Navia before I got him and a C9 Kirara and C4 Ningguang.
I have chevruese, faruzan and fischl on C6, solely due to good luck. It’s kind of crazy how one person can get, potentially, a C1 of a five star before they even get one copy of a four star, while someone else could get perhaps C4 of a four star before they even reach soft pity.
I remember when I dumped all my pulls on the Neuvillette banner because I wanted Diona c6 (don't need her anymore due to some team adjustments but still), I had only gotten her once on standard banner very early on in my account and I was setting myself with a realistic expectation of c3 at least, 110 pulls later, my previously c2 Xinqiu and c0 Fischl were now both c6, I got Neuvilette and even an early 30 pity Deyha, the amount of Dionas I got... 1. If it wasn't for the fact that every other character in that banner was S tier I would've been so mad, literally suffering from success.

i'd rather genshin implement HI3's system, where characters get added to the fragment store after some time and all u have to do is grind asterites to get the character for free. all 4 stars get added there for the regular fragment pricing and 5 stars can be bought as well but with an insane markup rate. same goes for weapons, i can't live with my R1 xiphos anymore

It's always been pretty common knowledge not to roll for 4 stars unless you want all the ones on the banner or the 5 star. This has been an issue since day 1 honestly. I still don't have some c6 4stars from launch. Honestly I really think they need to just let you pick the 4 stars you want on the banner. Or at least one of them. I don't think they're going to lose any money that way.

I still have flashbacks from when I had to pull Keqing AND Shenhe, both on relatively high pity, before I got one Yun Jin. Now, Shenhe ended up being good in my Wrio team, and I like her as a whole, no regrets here, but the issue with the 4-stars still remains.
It's so wild how of an oddity in the Gacha game Genshin truly is. It is one of my first game in this genre and only realized how weird it was when I started playing others, especially Cookie Run Kingdom. There are, as of writing this comment, around 130 characters. The only ones I don't have are literally those I didn't pull for/skiped the season, yet I know I can get them whenever *in the basic pull* (almost all of them, there are still exception here and there that you kind of have to pay for, but they're not the basic characters).
There are many differences, the first one being that there are more than 2 ranks of rarity. A new one "Beasts" has recently been added because of story reasons (and they're incredibly hard to get), there are the "rare" "epic" "ancient" etc... depending on their role in the story (and I've noticed how much people hate some 5* Genshin characters because of their lack of presence in the story, which is fair).
Another one is the "soul jam", basically the stuff that you use to "Ascend" the characters... but also to *unlock* them. So, if you are a new player and pulls regularly even on the basic one, you'll still end up with the most basic character at some point. And even after fully ascending them, their "soul jam" will turn into ingame currency to buy different stuff (which is common on most gacha games, but I feel it's easier to get useful stuff in Cookie Run Kingdom that Genshin).
I found Genshin crazy grindy coming from Blue Archive. 1000$+ constalations and then there's unique weapons too than get superimposed? Insanity.
I don't think a lot of these fixes are likely, but I do think we're at the point where we need a third character banner, and they need to have distinct 4 stars on each banner.
Same crappy odds and problems but it would give players even more permutations, increasing the chance of a banner being enticing for having skne high value stuff on it. Hoyo has always been odd because it's banners are *so* hyperfixated on the one 5 star character that 4 stars feel like a genuine afterthought, and it's money being left on the table
It's wild to me that after almost 4 years I've only managed to get Amber to C5. When she rolls around in the Starglitter shop in October I'll finally have attained C6, but man...
Amber, Lisa, and Kaeya only appear in the standard banner, so that sounds about right on why you don’t have her at C6. Unless you were actually pulling on the standard banner.

I was lucky and got Lisa and Amber's C1 back when Inazuma came out. There weren't nearly as many four stars as there are now, but I really wanted Kaeya. I managed to get his c6 but only from the shop and it took me 4 years. I haven't gotten any of cons of them since that patch. They really are rarer than a c6 five star at this point.
I have been playing genshin from the early days and got early 4 stars c6s very easily, i thought I was unlucky not getting the new ones but more the number less the acquisition rate , I need a Charlotte for my furina freeze team.........

I feel this. On the previous Raiden Shogun banner, when Chevreuse debuted, I really wanted her, and it felt like a good banner regardless. My Raiden was C1 (with my next 5* being a guaranteed pull), my Bennett and Sara were both C0, and I really wanted Chevy. What could go wrong, right?
Well, I got Raiden to C4 (2 of those were back-to-back 50/50 wins) and I got bothe Bennett and Sara to C6, which was extremely nice.
But I only pulled Chevreuse once, she's currently C0. And now she's back, along with Raiden and Sara.
I'm no whale, not even a dolphin. I only rarely buy Welkins and BPs. If I could only get Chevreuse to C6, I would have a very powerful Raiden/Bennett/Sara/Chevreuse team.
That's why, I'm (F2P) still contemplating doing more pulls on the Raiden/Kinich banner. I don't have or want either but I want cons for Chevruse (C0 rn). But it took me over 100 pulls and getting slapped by C4 Dehya to get my first copy (at least no 50/50 for Xiolonen) ... Chev is so good with my Arlecchino though.
Me who only FINALLY got Chevreuse in 4.8 despite not being a banner character: "First time?"

That first minute is so relatable. Kinich's banner just dropped, and i wanted to pull on it for him as well as Chevreusse and Kujou Sara, and both of these 4 stars had no constellations. 70 pulls in, what did i get? Kinich, 3 Sac bows, 3 of Kujou, and 4 of Thoma.
Happened on the banner with Sethos as well on 2 separate accounts. I got NO constellations for Sethos and about 12 of Thoma.
And Thoma had been c6 on both accounts WELL IN ADVANCE
my partner is having this problem with gaming rn since they enjoy plunging dps's, he currently only c4 i think and that's only because they got lucky on the standard banner. I also have had this issue with Kaveh it took 400 pulls and 2 banners since I don't spend really, and I only got 1 copy of him in that whole time. Genshin does really need to fix this issue.
I feel like they should change the way the stella fortuna works (the thingy to unlock a constellation). If I get a 4 star that I already got c6 on, I would much rather be able to keep the stella fortuna (instead of having it changed to starglitter) in order to use it on a different character (maybe a way to avoid people using this on 5 stars could be to make two different types of stella fortuna)

The proposed solutions are great as well, the most relevant is stop getting copies after C6, that would make a lot people happier... I think that a shard system would be good, where you convert your constellation excess to convert it into something more necessary, whether primos or copies of characters...
But yes, the main premise stays. Something must be done about the 4* system
I recently started playing genshin back in February and I can't help but think of what happened to me on the 4.5 banners. I had spent 190 wishes and had got both Neuvillette and Kazuha. But somehow I didn't get a single Xingqiu. I instead got 8 Yanfei and 5 Barabas. It's really disappointing to me that even after spending every wish I had to the last minute of the banner that I didn't get a single Xingqiu.

They should introduce a system where you select 3 four-stars out of a rotating pool of 6 or so.
Kind of like how on mystic summons in epic seven, you can select 1 out of 4 or so to lock in during the banner.
I’ve played this game since just after launch and I kid you not, I COULD NOT pull a single Sucrose until the middle of FONTAINE. Best part was I got her from the WEAPON BANNER. I remember specifically pulling on limited banners she was featured in and she just eluded my account for years.
I wish there was a way to super like a video cuz i would like this twice if possible. So many great point and tou really hit the nail on the head with the 4 star pulling experience 👏🏽
A solution for this would be to allow you to choose a 4 star to increase their drop rate on any banner compared to any other 4 star. Or maybe make them guaranteed if you select them and end up rolling a 4 star on that banner.
Or something a little more quirky, a 4 star banner which saves your pity/luck for when you do go to the 5 star banner.
So like if someone uses the 4 star banner to max out Kachina and then go to pull for Mualani the rate is boosted so much that a 5* is guaranteed and perhaps guaranteed for even the next and the next depending on how many times you've pulled on a 4* banner.
But yep 4 stars are definitely harder to get which makes me worried since people are saying Iansan is a 4 star.
But at least Genshin has a lot of the cute ones. Been waiting ages for Star Rail to add more cute short ones since launch. And ZZZ might not even get any of them. Sad.
So I'm much more happy with Genshin despite this.
Yeah. I’ve experienced this before. Three times that I can recall, the first was in 3.4 I pulled for and got Yelan but I wasn’t too interested in her, I really wanted Xingqiu constellations, and Xinyan too (I was short on Pyro characters at the time, I only had Amber). The second time was in 3.8, but then again I only tried (but this time succeeded in getting C6 Faruzan after I got Wanderer, and I still wound up with 4 five stars over the course of that patch; that’s how many wishes it took to C6 Faruzan. The most recent time was in 4.3, I somehow got Raiden from not having her to C2 while trying and failing to C6 Chevreuse And I got what feels like C34 Bennett and C15 Sara. That one still bites.
Yeah… the 4 star situation kinda sucks.
I remember spending my Venti savings early to try and get a C6 Barbara and I got a ton of characters in and out of the banner but no Barbara.
I was so worried I wouldn’t get Chevreuse of Raidens banner. I got raiden early!! Yay, right? No. I didn’t get a single Chevreuse and she is one of my favorite characters. I ended up getting her 40 pulls after Raiden. It’s so stupid you can just get random 4 stars instead of the 4 stars on a banner.
It's sad that genshin is like this, like the staple for gotchas is that 4star/rare promoted characters are supposed to be a consolation prize for not getting the 5star/ultra rare promoted character but at this point genshin has it the other way around. Like there was one time in a single 10 pull on a Cyno rerun i got 3 Kuki Shinobus when if I remember I was just trying to get a copy of Kirara, and that didn't happen till another 20 pulls.
It also doesn't help that even though you're guaranteed a 4 star every 10 pulls it is not even guaranteed you get a character, I've always felt that its unreasonable for you to be able to get 4 star weapon drops from the character banners when they literally have a separate banner for them.
I remember that Kuki/Kirara/Xiangling banner very well. I had neither Kuki nor Kirara, and was looking for a single copy of either of them. Instead, I got FOUR Xianglings in a row and a five star at 39 pity. (:

I am f2p and have been saving for months now for neuvi and arle rerun. I have 330 wishes currently and want to get cons/signiatures. BUT i still don't have cheveruse and want her for arle. I have guarenteed 50/50 and am absolutely dreading her appearing on raidens banner. If i have to waste 70+ wishes or even a lot more and getting raiden or kinich in the process it will seriously screw up my plans
My experience is that I wanted a Kujou Sara on the last Banner, I ended up with C2-->C5 Chevreuse C0-->C4 Thoma and a C0 Keqing, AND ONE SINGLE KUJOU SARA
Didnt expect to feel this. From the time i first pulled her ive wanted to build a sub dps kujou sara but i really needed her sec cons. Fast forward and i finally got her second cons this week. So wild that i had to wait so long for it.
6:39 i pulled for kaveh on baizhu banner as well and never got him but did get baizhu.......we saw how long it took for him to come out, and they held him from me as long as possible when he finally did come back. I just wanted AlHaitham to have his husband 😭😭😭

In general, I feel I am overall pretty lucky, at least in the sense that I get the characters at least once, but I also stopped looking for constellations and just take them once they come. I had two four star characters that I didn't get on release (Kirara and Mika), but I still got them over time, so I can't really complain.
Of course, there is the issue of getting constellations for these 4* characters, but while I agree that they typically gain a lot of strength from their C6, they are usually far from unplayable at lower constellations. Let's take Faruzan as an example, because she was one of those that I remember this discussion about. Of course, her C6 is really strong, because it basically solves her energy problems for her. However, it's not impossible for her to be used without C6 (I know because I did). You just have to build a lot more ER on her. Which of course reduces her own damage, but it still allows her to buff your Xiao or Wanderer. Did the team increase significantly in strength once I got C6? Of course and not just because I could swap out ER pieces for damage pieces, but because C6 made grouping of enemies even easier. Therefore, I feel, people should stop seeing C6 as a necessity for these characters to be played. In most cases they increase your damage, but if you build them properly you can still beat the highest level content. With C6 that just makes it a lot easier.
That isn't to say that I don't agree with the problem in general. I think it is a problem that should at least be adressed. One "solution" I rarely see is that you can just give each banner of the two that run simultaneously, their own characters. Which would give you a total of 6 per banner and a total of 12 per version, which would make it easier to rotate all these characters. Of course, this means, it will be more likely for some characters to be on a banner you don't want the 5 star character from, but since they could rerun earlier, I don't see this as a general problem.
So in conclusion, I agree that they should change something. But I would also advise (especially newer) players to stop thinking that 4 star characters can only be properly played at C6. There should be a split when talking about teams between those that have and those that don't have C6, but we should stop acting as if you can't do stuff with these character as long as you haven't maxed their constellations.
Yeah 100% agreed! Also Saurus even did a video talking about how C6 Faruzan wasn't the "game-changer" she'd expected after having used her at C0/C1 for a year 😁
I really hope this catches on to more players so we might actually get some good change if everyone voices this out to Hoyo 😔

I think that genshin needs to take notes from that cookie kingdom game from 2020, where if you wish and get enough of a characters “soul gems” (I think it was 20) then you can unlock the character, surely they could include some sort of like “stars” or something for the constellations, where if you get enough stars from wishing, you can unlock a constellation for a four star, or just unlock the four star in general. They could easily include like a set “path” for a higher chance of getting a select 4 stars “stars” or something. This also would help the issue of the banner loot being generally useless.
And if not this, they could atleast give us the option to sort of cancel the chances of getting a 4 star once you get its C6, as it’s very annoying that the chances of getting a character you have at C6 is still the same as any other.
The fact that it took me to C3 Raiden while losing all 50/50s just to get Kujou Sara to C6 won't ever be forgotten.

MFW I dont even have Sucrose or Sayu, and most of my 4 stars are C0 because every time I want someone new freakin Xiangling ALWAYS runs with them for some reason, shes been C6 since I came back. I have like a C50 Xiangling and a C10 Bennett, ugh. I don't even like Xiangling all that much mostly because of how many times I've seen her.

For some background, I started playing just after release and I'm super low spender (as in i bought welkin maybe 3-4 times in all these years) and wow is it so much more difficult to get 4 stars you want nowdays. My biggest struggle is with Collei who I love and have spent a lot of time building. For the longest time I only had her at C1 and even that was because we got free copies of her. I managed to get a single copy off banner few weeks and the fact that she is only now C2 is ridiculous. I'm hoping this banner will give me at least one copy because I'm desperate to C6 her :((

RAAAAHHH YES OMG, I was STRUGGLING to get Xinyan this banner, very worried abt the next banner bc I want all of the 4 starts from it (don’t have any of them rn) but not the 5 stars AND Bennett and Xianling are the ones I have the most constellations of bc of how often they appear!!!

To be real, there's not really that many good 4* characters. Sure you can get emotionally attached to any of them but that does only make it good for you.
For that reason I think the "dynamic odds" is a bad idea because a lot of people will prefer refund of one wish (after getting a character they already have at C6) over another constellation for a character they don't even intend to play.
How much the 4* strategy affects Hoyo's bottom line is uncertain. Note that they only make extra money from people that spend on genesis crystals when they want to pull. With F2P, Welkin users, battlepassers, even those who buy out the shop once a year there's absolutely no change on Hoyo's profits regardless what's on the banners. And with those who pay for their pulls, it really only changes something if they get unwanted 5*s in the process, even unexpected 50/50 losses don't count.
But I do believe we might be getting a change to the system relatively soon, just from how many QoL changes are being made to the game recently. They did shoot some really big shots with 5.0, both fate reduction in weapons banner and effective change of 50/50 to 55/45 (yes I know the mechanics) will in my opinion affect their "nothing else changed" per player profits much more significantly than any changes in 4* strategy.

I pulled from 0 pity to 64-something pity for Kaveh on the Navia/Nilou banner. I got him after over 60 pulls. Before that I had gotten 4 Ningguangs (when she was already C4) and two weapons. I wanted to throw the entire PC into the ocean.
Ive wished for gorou in every itto banner and i got my first copy of him on the standard banner lmao i managed to get him to c5 after that and i just got my last copy this week on standard banner AGAIN, im usually lucky with 4 stars though, i always get them at least c0 and the ones i havent oulled because i already had the 5 stars came later on events.
Even then i still dont have fischl c6, ive only gotten her to c3 😔
