There are a couple different models of Samsung Refrigerators that may have slightly different Forced Defrost activation settings so here is some other instructions if needed:
Samsung RF28 Defrost To start a “force defrost” on a Samsung RF28 refrigerator, press and hold at the same time “energy saver” and “power freeze/freezer” for about 4 seconds. Then you should hear a “beep”, and the display would show “OFF”. For manual defrost press and hold “energy saver” and “fridge/power cool” for 12 seconds. That would power the fridge off. If you press the “fridge/power cool” button, then it will switch to forced freeze mode. If you press the same button again for 3 times, then it would switch to forced defrost mode. Samsung RF263 Defrost Press and hold “energy saver” and “fridge” buttons for 8 seconds. The display would power off. After that, press the “fridge” button four times, the refrigerator would switch to “Fd” mode (forced defrost). Samsung RF263BEAESR Ice Maker Defrost Press and hold “energy saver” and “fridge” buttons for 8 to 10 seconds. The display wold go bland and the fridge would beep. Press the “fridge” button four times, both the refrigerator and ice maker would switch to forced defrost mode (“Fd” on display ). You cannot defrost the ice maker separately. Samsung RF263BEAESR Defrost There is an “energy saver” button on the left from the front side of the fridge. And there is “fridge button” on the right side. Press and hold both buttons for about 8 seconds, the display would go blank. Press 4 times the fridge button until there is “Fd” on the display. Samsung RF24FSEDBSR Defrost Press and hold the “fridge” and “power save” buttons for about 8 seconds, then press the “fridge” button until there is a “Fd” on display. The fridge would beep until the defrosting process is completed. Samsung RF23J9011SR Defrost Press and hold the “cool select” and “freezer” buttons for about 8 seconds, then press any other button for 4 times to switch it to forced defrost mode. There should be “Fd” on display. The fridge would beep for 25 minutes after that, which is normal. Samsung SRF680CDLS Defrost Press and hold the “fridge” and “energy saver” buttons for about 8 seconds, then press the fridge button, until there is a “Fd” on the display. The forced defrost mode is on.
Thank you so much for the different models for FD function. I was going crazy trying to the right button combo for my exact fridge (Samsung RF23J9011SR)
I have model RF28HFEDTWW. Clarification for RF28 forced defrost steps please. 1. Press energy saver/freezer buttons until display goes blank 2. Press energy saver/fridge button 12 secs. Any indicator symbols at this point? Unclear for next step. Do I press the fridge button? And is it 3 times? Thanks for life saving solution!
I'm so furious, that Samsung customer service never mentioned this option. My ice maker froze about a year ago. I fix ( for now) the issue in 20 minutes with the video. Thank you
Same, until it melted. Thankfully it was still under warranty and they came and put in a new one, but the tech knew. 😂 But also, this ice maker is a piece crap. I scoured RUclips years ago and never found this, finally today years old when I have that ish beeping and defrosting.
Great news. We purchased out $2700 samsung fridge in 2015. The ice maker has been a constant headache. I heard on a blog that samsung is now offering warranty replacement o your poorly designed ice maker. I called the 1-800-samsung number, gave them my serial number and model numbers and sent some pics. I am scheduled for a complete replacement of the etire icemaker, drawer, mother board and other items all covered under warranty, It is worth a try
Samsung replaced our ice maker and things were fine for a year or so. After that, was the same old thing. The design is flawed no matter how many new ice makers are put in. Home Depot knew about the problem when they sold fridge to me. There was a class action against Samsung at the time, but I was unaware.
Dude you’re my hero. Less hassle than my hair dryer method. Note to all: you can help the process by using a butter knife or cat’s paw to pry off some of the bigger chunks after the cycle has been running for 5 minutes or so. Its helps the heat cycle with the parts you can’t reach. Huge thanks for this video!
Thank for taking the time to do a user friendly video. The video made me feel very confident to complete the force defrost mode and getting my ice maker working again. This procedure will help me in the future without headaches. Only thing I did not know, was after the defrost mode is over, the refrigerator will go back to normal mode. There was not a need to reboot the two buttons for 8 seconds again. My reset temps are 4 degrees/36 degrees.
I followed your very simple instructions and performed this defrost on my Samsung fridge a few days ago and it worked great! I did the forced defrost twice; the first went for 40 minutes and the second for about 20 minutes. Once all the build up was melted, I reset the fridge to 38F and the freezer to -1F. Within hours, the ice maker was functioning properly once again. Thanks very much for your excellent fix!
Haven’t had ice in a year. Gave up after defrosting multiple times with hair dryer. Now, so frozen, can’t even get the ice drawer out. It’s in defrost mode now, thanks to your video, so hoping can remove ice drawer shortly.
For anyone with the RF23M8070SR model, the trick to get the FD mode is holding down Freezer + Control Lock for 10-12 seconds. The display will flash, then hit the Control Lock button 4 more times until FD shows up.
So glad I found this video. I had no idea about the forced defrost. I hate my Samsung ice maker 😒. I'm just going to leave my ice maker off and buy ice.
This was a great help for my non working ice maker on RF28jbed. It was clear and concise and told me exactly what to do to get rid of the ice build up. His most important comment was that you may have to run the defrost cycle a few times to get it to work, and for me it took 3 times. The first time mounts of ice hanging down melted. The second time ice build up in the back or the unit and inside the cooler coil melted. The third time the water line connection to the ice maker thawed out and I finally got water (and ice). Thanks again for saving me time and money and aggravation dealing with a service call.
Excellent video! Thank you for posting this! Very concise and to the point. Sadly, none of this info is in the Samsung manual. We love this fridge, but our only complaint it this damn ice maker with how it constantly builds up outer ice. We discovered that the unit needed to be sealed (caulked) since the refrigerator humidity seeps thru the mounting seams of the ice maker unit causing it to constantly freeze up like this. If you look inside your fridge at the ice unit, you'll see what I'm referring to. It's a completely separate section that was added and the seams cause just enough ventilation to make it frost up all the time. I'm sure everyone has encountered this constant issue with this design. That's the only flaw we have dealt with, otherwise, we love this fridge!

Update: I patiently have been waiting for our Samsung notification regarding the 50% off discount code. Samsung said it takes 2-3 days. Over two weeks later I decided to phone Samsung Customer service for an update. Low and behold, Samsung had no record of my failed warranty repair nor the promise of a 50% replacement coupon. Lucky i saved ALL my correspondence and was able to prove everything. Samsung said in a few days I should hear back from there warranty claims department.
Thank you so much! I just got my fridge a month ago and we just had this problem last night. Had to do the process twice in a row to get all the ice melted and we now have ice again!
I have an RF263BEAEWW/AA. Thank you so much for the video! As another poster mentioned, it was necessary for me to turn off the ice maker for the fix to work. After going thru 4 DF cycles I still could not get the ice bin out, it was so frozen up. Once I turned off the ice maker off I went thru another 2 cycles but I could now see water drops and the defrost went quickly. Waiting now to see if there will be ice in the morning. 🙂
Wow...my ice maker hasn't been working for a couple of years!! this worked (had to do it 4 times) fingers crossed on how well this works going forward...and I'll be checking out the permanent fix...Thank you!!!
This is the only info video that really worked for me. The first time I called Samsung I was able to get better info. The second time, the agent was unaware of the fd mode (forced defrost) and could not help. I finally found this video and was able to activate the setting. Ice maker has already been defrosted with the help of other videos. However, I am using the fd mode to get rid of all ice before restarting. Im not interested in calling a service centre for something I can do myself. Sadly, I’m guessing this will become a reoccurring task, perhaps every 2 months to keep the buildup minor. Jan in Toronto. March 2022
Thanks for the great job explaining the function to defrost. I have a Samsung icemaker which Samsumg came out 6 years after the purchase and replaced the icemaker at NO Charge. It worked for about a year now and then quit. I thought it was iced up because I couldn't get the icemaker drawer out. I did the routine you explained and 5 minutes later I could get the door/drawer open. Upon inspection there was no ice? I'm going to let it complete it's cycle because water still isn't flowing into the unit but works great outside on the door so I'm guessing it's frozen somewhere. Fingers crossed!
I am in Europe (UK) and have MODEL: RF56J9040SR This worked. Thank you so much. I first started having ice compartment issues 8 months after purchase: January 2019. Samsung contract engineer came round, replaced a bunch of stuff in the ice compartment and updated the software and said this is a well known issue and he does this fix on 100's a month. 2 years 8 months later ice compartment starts to freeze back up. Hopefully, now forced defrosted and dried, I wont have this issue for another few years!
I've used a hair dryer at least ten times and then a month or three later ice doesn't get made again. Was told by a repair guy that the maker design is funky and there's no hope other than constantly defrosting. I'm going to seek out the replacement that you mention...
I did this and I only got through two ice rounds before the thing froze up again. Even though someone above said not to, I used a hair dryer and it was a better fix. It took way less time, I didn't need to hold the door open for 30-60 minutes and it's still looking great a week later. It took about two years to get to the frozen point previously, so I'm guessing I now have another two years.
Yes! But it took 3 hours of beeping to get the bin out and 1 more afterwards. I also used containers of hot water inside the fridge to stream it up. Emptied the whole fridge.
I cant even get my ice bucket out. Have tried everything possible for weeks. Is there some other reason besides buildup that the bucket it self wont pop open?
I did the Fd mode and used a hair drier on High, and a narrow plastic spatula.... done in 10 minutes. Pressed the Light button to get out of the Fd mode and stop that beep!
Thanks for the tip about the Forced Defrost Mode. Currently, I take the ice maker out and then use a flashlight to see where the excess ice is. Next, I take a long metal spatula (I use the one for my outdoor gas grille) and scrape the top of the inside and I knock off chunks on the upper right side and way in back. I will sometimes use the pointed end of the handle. I also use a large plate to catch the scrapings and chunks that have fallen down when I pull these out with the spatula. A Preventative Maintenance for excess accumulation that impedes the Ice Maker from making ice s/b done every 5 days. BTW- I keep my Freezer at -8° and Fridge at 34° Using the FD Mode looks like an alternative to scraping.
Try to avoid scraping or using any manual method. A good defrosting method is to use a couple of mugs of hot water placed on the icemaker floor on top of a towel. Another safe method is to use a garment steamer. DO NOT use a hair dryer or heat gun.
Samsung RT62K7050SL To start a forced defrost, press and hold the "Freezer" and "Freezer Convert" button for a few seconds until the whole display lights up. Then press "Freezer Convert" a couple of times until "Fd" shows up. Then leave it, beeping will start and it will do its work. It takes about 30 minutes to complete.
My Hero!!! 😁 Question... Isn't there a risk of tremendous "Food Loss" if the entire Fridge gets that warm during the process? Can the audible Beep, be deactivated??? 😩
Just realized that you probably had your fridge empty and open for demonstration purposes. I did this earlier today and my Samsung didn't even lose temperature but did dethaw the ice stuck on the ice maker. 👍🏽
Hi. Mark my name is Arturo and samsong twin cooling french door is not cooling in neither section and heater coils are hot. It's like stocked in defrost mode. No ice buildup. Fridge temp is at 60 and freezer at 80
Use a clothes steamer in the ice chute for about an hour. It will melt the ice faster than the defrost. I'm going to try to completely dry mine out because it lasts two weeks and then I have to do it again.😞
Do you know if you can only force defrost a certain amount of times in a row? I did it twice but there’s still more ice and I can’t get it to start again
We have an RS25J500DSR and you have to press the Freezer and Water buttons for 12 seconds when the display goes blank (well, at least it does sometimes!), then the beeping starts. Press Fridge once to get both blue bars full: that’s “fans on”, then Fridge again to get two half blue bars: that’s forced defrost. After 19 minutes it will stop beeping and resume normal operation.
All that's missing from this video is showing how to put the fridge back to normal from Defrost or a mention if it does so automatically. I accidentally put my fridge into demo mode somehow and that was a bit of a headache to figure out.
C.L.S ALL-IN-One I have a Samsung French door refrigerator with the middle drawer. I can't get the ice bin out, it's frozen. I used a handheld steamer and directed steam into the outlet where the ice comes out. It's melting the ice but I still can't get the bin out. We've had problems removing it since we bought it. Any suggestions? From what I've seen you push up on the bin and then it's supposed to pull right out but it's never been easy to remove it.
for anyone that found this with a fridge that has 4 doors and the one door that can select freezer or fridge. Hole the freezer button with the button to select that 3rd door if it's a freezer or fridge. Then use that same cold select button to cycle the modes
When u do this does the temp of the fridge and freezer not raise so much to ruin food in both? I need to do this but I really don’t have anywhere to put food from both and I do not want to ruin my food
I have an RF26R73515G with the "Ice Max" ice maker and the same problem. This particular model doesn't have a display, and the buttons have been moved to the inside of the fridge on the right. From top to bottom, there are buttons for fridge, FlexZone and freezer temp adjustment, ice maker, water/ice and door alarm buttons. Does anyone know the button combination on this particular model? I haven't been able to find it.
My 4 year old Samsung has had ice in the back wall evaporator every month. As if the defrost heater doesn't work. In fact, the defrost heater does work. Even though could not find any fault in the defrost thermodisk, and all temperature sensors OK. Heater works too (120 Ohms). Changed the defrost thermodisk anyway and really defrosted and dried out the cover. Fridge ran fine for 8 months. Repeat. Turns out the defroster only takes care of the lower half of the evaporator coil! Design flaw. Once you start hearing the fan buzzing, the ice is building in the upper half of the evaporator coil. Once the fan gets stopped, everything including the styrofoam turns into a block of ice. You can thaw out the styrofoam and remove the ice. Or replace that back cover and styrofoam until another humid time when it will freeze up again (design flaw). Don't get me started about the brittle plastic, cracks on the shelves, and door shelves that break off. Stay AWAY!
Thank you this worked great BUT two questions. 1) Is there a drip tray in the bottom of fridge to empty during this defrost? I did put towel in and ice dropped, but don't want water anywhere else. 2) confused by Ice maker light on/off. when I hold button 3 sec it looks like it's ON, but then when open door it looks like still off. What should I look for to know it's on or off so I can start making ice again after temp gets too 4/38? Thanks again.
I've had to do this numerous times in the past. I've extensively researched turning the beeping off... .. unfortunately I have not found a way to do so and just deal with it.
How did your fridge get to 80 degrees? Mine stayed at 37 the whole time during the beeping noise and the ice didn’t melt. I also noticed if you leave your door open the beeping sound eventually turns off but turns back on once you close the door
Just finding this while looking for a solution to prevent the buildup. I’ve been using a hairdryer to defrost and it’s done in 5 minutes. I find myself having to do this 5-6 times a year even with the low humidity environment where I live. Anyway, terrible design and very slow recovery.
I couldn’t seem to get the force frost work. What I did was I used a hand steamer and forced it into where the ice comes out. I was able to finally get the icemaker chamber off. I put it on the icemaker to see if it will cycle through. I’m still waiting. In the meantime, There is a small snowflake in the middle of my board, what does that mean or how can I get rid of it? My fridge has duel ice makers, the bottom one is working fine. TY!
Does this heat something up or does it just turn Off machine? I quit defrosting a year ago and started buying ice and compressor was hitting ice even tho ice machines been on off a year. Sounded like grinding. I whittled away a bit and hit the dryer on low (I know but ugh) and that stopped it. Found your video and over 2 hours later I’m still beeping. Tiny bit of ice still at back of maker where I can barely touch very very back behind. It was a solid block. I still did about 15 min of low heat then cool blast, heat cool so nothing got real warm but did help ice melt toward top where ice is made (was solid to top of machine). How long do I wait for The beeping to stop?
@@D.I.Y._All-in-One It started producing ice before 10 pm last night. This is my second issue with this fridge. I had to remove the back panel due to it freezing up due to a drain clogging up with ice…which is as much of an issue for people as the ice maker freezing up.. Thanks again.
Hello! Followed this process which worked great to defrost the ice maker. It finished beeping, I waited for temperatures to go back to regular, turned the ice machine back on and...no ice! Is there a setting I am missing?
You may have to hold down the little blue button on the inside of the ice maker to reset it. Hold it down for about 8 seconds until you hear it beep (ding, ding). You'll need to pull the ice bin out in order to see this blue reset button on the upper right. After resetting that button, you may hear it (ding, ding) again after a few minutes. This means there's still ice lodged in there somewhere, so you may have to force defrost again.
we can't even get our ice-bin removed. It's froze in! Does this Forced Defrost stop by itself after 30min or do we have to force it to stop? I thought I read that you don't want it in the FD mode too long as it might damage something? Just frustrated......looking for answers. I did the FD mode last night for 12min and then 8min. Had no luck removing the ice bin. It's stuck big time.
You will have to be more patient, that much ice takes a long time to thaw out if its that bad, the forced defrost mode will stop after half hour automatically, it might take multiple cycles of defrosting to get the ice to thaw. The freezer door will have to remain open during defrost as well.
@@chandrakeerthy8023 I did not. Had to call Samsung to come out and fix it. They offered to do it free of charge, so I will certainly let them. The response was quick. They'll be by tomorrow to repair it.
I’ve done this before, but now when I press Freezer and Lighting, two zeros (0) come up. I’m unable to access the forced mode. Do I need to perform some kind of reset?
My Samsung wont show the codes it goes back to the temperature display. Is there another way to get the FD displays to come up? Yes my ice maker is off.
Appreciate your taking the time to make this video as we have been battling with the ice-maker for quite some time. Assuming this will not have any negative affect on the freezer and only applies to the ice-maker correct?
Fd didn't help, I tried 4 times and the ice maker drawer is just stuck, after 3rd time a could crack it open just a little bit. I realized my ice cream in the freezer starter to get softer. so I canceled 5th try of Fd. Should I keep trying Fd or just give up?
I have utilized the “Fd” option but I’m unable to remove the ice drawer. I’m hoping after 30 minutes or so I can remove the drawer and resume the process. Also, is it supposed to beep the entire time? 😅
There are a couple different models of Samsung Refrigerators
that may have slightly different Forced Defrost activation settings so here is some other instructions if needed:
Samsung RF28 Defrost
To start a “force defrost” on a Samsung RF28 refrigerator, press and hold at the same time “energy saver” and “power freeze/freezer” for about 4 seconds.
Samsung RF263 Defrost
Press and hold “energy saver” and “fridge” buttons for 8 seconds. The display would power off. After that, press the “fridge” button four times, the refrigerator would switch to “Fd” mode (forced defrost).
Samsung RF263BEAESR Ice Maker Defrost

Samsung RF24FSEDBSR Defrost

Samsung RF23J9011SR Defrost
Press and hold the “cool select” and “freezer” buttons for about 8 seconds, then press any other button for 4 times to switch it to forced defrost mode. There should be “Fd” on display. The fridge would beep for 25 minutes after that, which is normal.
Samsung SRF680CDLS Defrost

Once I turned off the ice maker off I went thru another 2 cycles but I could now see water drops and the defrost went quickly. Waiting now to see if there will be ice in the morning. 🙂
Any way to stop the beeping while it defrosts?
Wow...my ice maker hasn't been working for a couple of years!! this worked (had to do it 4 times) fingers crossed on how well this works going forward...and I'll be checking out the permanent fix...Thank you!!!
Was your ice drawer hard to remove? I’ve never done this and mine is stuck?

I am in Europe (UK) and have MODEL: RF56J9040SR
This worked. Thank you so much.
I first started having ice compartment issues 8 months after purchase: January 2019.
Samsung contract engineer came round, replaced a bunch of stuff in the ice compartment and updated the software
and said this is a well known issue and he does this fix on 100's a month.
This is much better than shutting the fridge off and enclosing hair curlers in the icemaker compartment.
GREAT VIDEO!!! YOU WERE SO CLEAR, CONCISE AND YOU MADE IT SO EASY TO FOLLOW YOU STEP BY STEP~THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Thank you
It’s crazy to me that I have to sit here for 30-40 minutes and listen to it beep the ENTIRE time.
Same 😂
Clicked ‘more replies’ hoping for a “just press **** to turn off the beep” but no 😒
I have one with the Family Hub so I could turn the sounds off.
Thanks I wondered if it was supposed to keep beeping.
Very helpful, thank you. I didn't know about the force defrost mode. I was about to go get the hair dryer.
I have seen other videos that describe using the rd code to defrost the ice maker. What's the difference between using rd or fd?
Thanks! This saved me a lot of time and money. Appreciate you taking the time to make this.
Awesome video, thank you! Very helpful. My ice maker hasn't worked in months, and this is why. I will check out your permanent fix next.
Will this work if you cannot take the bin out at all due to the ice build up?
Yes! But it took 3 hours of beeping to get the bin out and 1 more afterwards. I also used containers of hot water inside the fridge to stream it up. Emptied the whole fridge.
During the forced defrost mode, does the fridge door need to be kept open or can it be closed? Thanks
Hopefully this video saves my life. I'll be back in a couple hours.
Holy cow. This worked so good!
Thank you for a clear, concise explanation.
Samsung RT62K7050SL
To start a forced defrost, press and hold the "Freezer" and "Freezer Convert" button for a few seconds until the whole display lights up.
Then press "Freezer Convert" a couple of times until "Fd" shows up. Then leave it, beeping will start and it will do its work. It takes about 30 minutes to complete.
Thank u so much I do this 2/4 times a year 🎉 your the best
Does using the forced defrost mode make your freezer defrost also? Do I have to empty its contents?
My Hero!!! 😁
Question...
Great advice - what are the other functons that are available? I need to defrost the main fridge section.
Hi. Mark my name is Arturo and samsong twin cooling french door is not cooling in neither section and heater coils are hot. It's like stocked in defrost mode. No ice buildup. Fridge temp is at 60 and freezer at 80
@@arturolabeet1218 I'm not a specialist. Ask the C.L.S All-in-one account.
Does this work for fan noise? It sounds like the fan in the fridge section.
Congrats ! Finally someone who knows about this problem....
What do you do if you can NOT remove the ice bucket?
Same same
Use a clothes steamer in the ice chute for about an hour. It will melt the ice faster than the defrost. I'm going to try to completely dry mine out because it lasts two weeks and then I have to do it again.😞
I ran two defrost cycles, and it came out.
Ran mine 5 times. Nothing
Same problem. I am running the defrost cycle a 2nd time and will let you know what happens.
@Jean B it defrosts the ice maker only
All that's missing from this video is showing how to put the fridge back to normal from Defrost or a mention if it does so automatically. I accidentally put my fridge into demo mode somehow and that was a bit of a headache to figure out.
It is mentioned in video. Cycle runs for about thirty min.
Thanks for the video! Does this force a defrost for the ice maker AND freezer? Or just the ice maker?
I want to know the answer to this too
I did what you said and is it supposed to beep for 30 to 40 minutes. It won’t stop beeping

I have a Samsung French door refrigerator with the middle drawer.
Done this a couple times. Works great! Thanks!
Any ideas on the RF26J7500SRT None of the above seems to work. Thanks
My issue is that I can't remove the ice maker. Any suggestions. Tried using a hair dryer underneath and on the sides but it still won't come out.
Stay AWAY!
Is there a problem is if it so frozen I can't remove the ice box or tray as you do in this video?
Thank you this worked great BUT two questions. 1) Is there a drip tray in the bottom of fridge to empty during this defrost? I did put towel in and ice dropped, but don't want water anywhere else. 2) confused by Ice maker light on/off. when I hold button 3 sec it looks like it's ON, but then when open door it looks like still off. What should I look for to know it's on or off so I can start making ice again after temp gets too 4/38? Thanks again.
is there a way to stop the beeping....
His fridge got to 80 because he opened the fridge door and left it open the entire defrost cycle. You don't need to do this for Fd.
Just finding this while looking for a solution to prevent the buildup. I’ve been using a hairdryer to defrost and it’s done in 5 minutes. I find myself having to do this 5-6 times a year even with the low humidity environment where I live. Anyway, terrible design and very slow recovery.
We own a hairdryer specifically to defrost our Samsung ice maker. It’s ridiculous that they never tested this before shipping them.
What are the other functons that are available on the fridge? I need to defrost the main fridge section.
I cant get my ice bin out its really frozen Im going to try this anyways... if you have any help on this let me no thanks for the video
I only needed a round and a half. How do I stop the defrost if I'm done early?
Thank you for posting this. I Got all the ice out. Defrosted nicely.. How long before it starts producing ice. ? Thanks again
Thank you, after a couple of hours it should start producing ice.
@@D.I.Y._All-in-One It started producing ice before 10 pm last night. This is my second issue with this fridge. I had to remove the back panel due to it freezing up due to a drain clogging up with ice…which is as much of an issue for people as the ice maker freezing up.. Thanks again.
Once in Forced defrost mode. Will I be able to check the heating helmet temp using a temp gun and the cover off?
Do I have to shut water off , while I'm defrosting.
Is it ok to defrost with the ice maker bucket still inside? Mine is actually frozen in place...
Do you have to take the tray out, I would like it to melt in tray.
Does this only defrost the ice maker?
Any idea how to do a forced defrost with a newer Flex 4 door, with video screen, that doesn't have any of those buttons? Model RF28M9580SR
Stupid question..does it defrost the entire freezer or just the icemaker? Just wanna know if i should take everything and move it.
Sometimes, it does the entire freezer, but it's only a half hour, so you should be able to leave everything in place and not worry about it.
@@D.I.Y._All-in-One the freezer door or the fridge door? The maker is technically inside the fridge. Just making sure. Probably a dumb question
Same. Can even remove the bin. It’s FD cycled four times.
@@dr.lashondareid7847 Did you get it to open ? I am having same issue
@@chandrakeerthy8023 I did not. Had to call Samsung to come out and fix it. They offered to do it free of charge, so I will certainly let them. The response was quick. They'll be by tomorrow to repair it.
Does the FD mode stop automatically after 30min? Or do I need to force stop it?
I’ve done this before, but now when I press Freezer and Lighting, two zeros (0) come up. I’m unable to access the forced mode. Do I need to perform some kind of reset?
Same
@@juliefischer5271 hey! Try pressing Energy Saver and Fridge at the same time. That worked for me.
When I try to do a second FD cycle (still lots of ice) the screen beeps then turns off every time I hold down the freezer + lighting buttons
Does this mean the freezer won't be working during this step? Or just the fridge?
My Samsung wont show the codes it goes back to the temperature display. Is there another way to get the FD displays to come up? Yes my ice maker is off.
Hello I have the r28 2017 model & no where on the display am I able to find the energy saver
Thanks so much for this advice!! And your helpful video ❤❤❤
Thank you for this video! I have the same model as in the video.
Hello.... I have done this twice. Do I have to turn off the defrost mode or does it just turn off ?
After about 20 minutes to half hour should turn off on its own.
@@D.I.Y._All-in-One , it did, it turned off !! Thank you so much. I was so worried. Thank you, thank you. It's working again.
What do you do if you don't have a lighting button?
Are these problems also happening with Samsung models that don't have water and ice dispenser in the door?
Appreciate your taking the time to make this video as we have been battling with the ice-maker for quite some time. Assuming this will not have any negative affect on the freezer and only applies to the ice-maker correct?
Its for freezer and ice maker. But as long as keep freezer door closed it will stay cool no problem for an hour or less.
Fd didn't help, I tried 4 times and the ice maker drawer is just stuck, after 3rd time a could crack it open just a little bit. I realized my ice cream in the freezer starter to get softer. so I canceled 5th try of Fd. Should I keep trying Fd or just give up?
Thank you for this video! My ice maker in the door works again!
Thanks so much!!! You've fixed my fridge!
This helped me out a lot thank you
Glad it helped
Great tutorial quick easy! Perfection🎉
My Samsung is RF22KR. I was not able to do the FD. Please advise.
Outstanding instructional video!! I’ll sub after I’m done and it clears, thanks
I have utilized the “Fd” option but I’m unable to remove the ice drawer. I’m hoping after 30 minutes or so I can remove the drawer and resume the process.
Also, is it supposed to beep the entire time? 😅
You'll probably have to do it a few times to melt more ice.
