You give several choices for the males to choose. I’ve done that but also given only one choice, and had similar results. Have you tried one cave? And if so, What’s your experience been Jessie? Great vid

Caylor's Aquatics I generally always give options due to the fact I always have more than 1 male per tank. Quite often I get 2 or 3 batches of eggs in 1 tank. In tanks that have fry eating species of fish in them I like to offer very “tight” caves so the male can protect the fry more easily. Like I said in the video they will eventually breed in just about any nook or cranny, but I like to have a bit of control where they breed, by offering the male more choices on where I want them to breed👍🏻 thanks for watching and the kind words Bob

@@danielevans9106 Thank you for your great video explaining how to carefully extract and raise the fry. I am hoping to see my first eggs and fry very soon and have Peppermint Bristlenose and both long and short fin Albinos. The males are in their caves , and my Albino short fin Bristlenose has been fussy, and has kicked out a couple of females in the last few days, but with a storm on the way and a 40'/. water change, he is tonight displaying his strong fins and in and out of the cave to feed.
I have noticed while the rest of the Albinos in the tank are uniform white, the male is quite red as he displays his fins and the two femals inspecting his cave have reddish belly"s. Have you noticed this colour change behaviour prior to breeding?
My PH is 7.2 and temperature is dropped to 72 degrees to hopefully encourage them to breed, so I hope to see my first eggs and fry very soon

very very helpful information. I am new to breeding ancistrus and learned a lot from your video. Upgrading my 20 gallon grow out tank to a 40 gallon and will keep on feeding lots of food, Also learned not to have swordtails in same tank as they eat all the food instead of the baby plecos.

Nice vid! I breed short-fin super reds and I have an old breeding pair of 5 years old. The key to getting more babies is having the female well fed 2 weeks before your expected breeding window (my pair breeds every 4-5 weeks). My pair's average spawn is around 80 babies. My biggest spawn was close to 130 babies. MY male is almost 6" and my female is 4.5" long. Also keeping the babies too long in the cave will be hard on a big clutch as the food inside the cave can go quickly if you have a huge clutch. I typically remove the babies 3 to 4 days after hatching and transfer them to a breeder box.

Thank you thank you! For recommending the Organika!!! My bristlenoses are around 1 week old and have not ate anything for me. I tried zucchini, cucumber, bug bites and algae tabs. I knew I had to order on Amazon to get the Organika quick. They only had the 500mg available. I noticed yours was 300mg. Do you think it's okay to give them the 500mg? Also thanks for the helpful videos. This is the first time one of my fish ever had babies. I was a nervous Nelly!

Loved the video, I haven't had any success getting my super red long-fin male to breed, im only using water spikes as caves and was wondering if you could link the cave that we saw in this video with the brown babies in it with the removable lid. Thank you:) PS, I should mention my shortfins breed with ease, thats why I think it may be cave size.

Thank you👍🏻 As often as needed. I know that sounds like a smart ass answer but its not. Depends on alot of factors. How much feed, amount and size of fish in the system, how much filtration etc. It cannot be a accurate 1 size fits all answer.

I have some goldens but they are young. The colour morphs between ancistrus would not prevent them from breeding. Try switching food up, maybe change temp up or down a couple degrees and move the caves around or offer different types.
