    Nice to see different kinds of plecos in your fish room tour and the breeding projects you intend in the near future. I noticed your angels are fighting with each other as they have some damaged fin tails. Try moving them to different tanks. I find you do regular tank maintenance as these plecos are known to produce a lot of ammonia. Get some guppy grass and feed them a slice of cucumber once in a while to keep their bowls moving. Tip in order for the cucumber to sink drop the sliced cucumber into boiling water. cover it with a lid to avoid water cooling off. In few minutes it will sink. take it out run it under running tap water in order for it to cool off. Drop it in the fish tank. I see other RUclipsrs who also breed plecos but they do not keep the tanks as clean as you do. Liked and subscribed to your channel.

    You can get some really gigantic common bristlenoses, Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus. I got mine as fry from someone who bred them and the female was gigantic so I can only expect him to grow to be quite large, I believe she was easily 15cm SL. With the wild-type colouration size varies a lot.
    Ancistrus are my favourite genus of Loricariidae, but I do prefer the really odd ones which probably in time will end up in an independent genera.

    Good information.. I bought some sf blue eyed from Mike's cichlids,and 1 has started to grow a black spot on it's tail fin.. I'm also having problems with green dragons.. I've bought from 2 breeders here from Ohio. Last group I bought the guys 2yr old breeding group. The male is so short 3in full of bristles. 2 out of each group have spots. Which I'm told isn't pure.. So I guess they need more line breeding like you mentioned. Kinda like with other fish..

I have some I am super excited about and would love to know other people experiences. I have a question- is it bad to breed sister and brother? should we do different blood lines? I have a green dragon coming with a green mom and lemon dad that I want to breed with both a pure green dragon and etc... One more question...Is a calico essentially a hybrid of 2 colors creating the calico?

    Nice!!! What do you feed them? I had some dark eyed leucistic bistlenose plecos, but the female grew to 4" and the male was about 4 & 1/2" with no signs of stopping, so I gave them to a local fish store & got some Gold marble plecos (LDA08 - Ancistrus claro) which should stay under 3" I hope. But, I'm wondering if maybe I fed them too many high protein pellets???

    Questions how long does it take to get them 1"-2"? Let's say I have about 60-100 in a 10 gallon grow out tank. Do I need to upgrade the grow out tank to something bigger?

    • @Chris18o0
      @Chris18o0 4 года назад

      Mine took 3-4 months. Growth rate depends on how much they’re eating and how clean the water is. Fry are so small I think 10gal could hold a batch as long as you’re keeping an eye on water parameters and have time to do water changes when needed. But 60-100 fish are collectively going to put on mass quick. So if this grow out tank is to get them to an inch I’d definitely upgrade. You can feed them more before needing water changes in a larger tank.

    • @svvamprat22
      @svvamprat22 4 года назад

      @@Chris18o0 Ya I got no room in there I've had them for 3 months and they are 3/4 inch. I've already started making a rack for some 20 gallon longs. What temps do you like to keep the fry at?

    • @Chris18o0
      @Chris18o0 4 года назад

      AA I keep them at 77f. However I haven’t had enough spawns and tanks to experiment for an ideal. It’s worked for me so I try to not rock the boat. What temp did you keep the fry at? And what temp did they spawn for you?

    • @svvamprat22
      @svvamprat22 4 года назад

      @@Chris18o0 I live in Southern California so my temps run hot. I'm at about 79-83 any given day depending on the heat outside. I've only had 3 spawns and I can't really tell you so I guess I've been lucky. I don't think it would be safe for me to lower my temps to 77 it might fluctuate too much when it gets hot. Maybe my fry are not growing in the hotter temps I don't know. Thanks for the info I'll keep on trying.

    Hi there, love your bristlenose. Was wondering is thier size due to inbreeding early on in captivity. Also are the ones in with the rams fin nipped? Are calico a pied genetic? Also in bird breeding a spot like those you were talking about that spot is almost always a split pied that shows (in birds splits can be both sex linked and recessives) so I would say your spot fish would be split calico
    Hope to hear from you
    Regards Duzzy from 🇦🇺

    • @pittsburghpets3759
      @pittsburghpets3759  4 года назад

      Thank you! The size in bristlenose plecos is smaller, its normal. No the rams don't bother the plecos. The calico is a color mutation, different than bird genetics. In plecos the only difference from male to female is the size, bristles, and in the red strains ive found the males get a darker red.
      Hope this answered your questions,
      Thank you for watching! :)

    I wish there was a dwarf variety small enough for a 10 gallon tank.

      If some of your fish are already small, you could work on that & actually achieve new miniature variety!

    You realy think it's ok to handle any fish like that?? Holding the head while the back is wiggling like crazy in full fear mode? You never should handle fish like that if you respect the beings you are taking care of..

  • @mhrckr
    @mhrckr 5 лет назад

    well you need larger tanks for bigger sized females, at least 1m or + , coz i can see the difference of my males an females at different tanks.
