Can you think of any other characters that are even less likeable?
Babidi in canon! He has NOTHING on your own Babidi Masako! GO potato man! 🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔
Zeno
Yajirobe murdered and ate one of my sons
Chi Chi?
Just one. Zamasu. Err, Fused Zamasu.
I find it rather bizarre that his witch part is never brought up. Like, it's always just "The Elder Kai", despite him being a fusion. It's like if Vegito was called Fusion Goku by everyone.
It's because his personality was so strong the dual voice didn't apply...also wasn't lore since toriyama hadn't come up with it yet.
thing is, at this point one must wonder - why doesn't he ask the dragon to undo the fusion? clearly it's possible as seen with shin.
for that matter, why was the fusion permanent if the witch he fused with wasn't a Kai?
@@chloejessica7961 i think the idea is simply because part of it involved a kai. so goku x shin would be permanent.
@@simbadas1234which begs another question
Would Goku Black and Zamasu's fusion be permanent
Elder Kai used to be youthful until some random witch showed up and took one of his Potara Earrings, which she fused with him.
No one ever questioned how did the witch enter the Realm of the Kais and why is she even there.
Yeah. He's only old and unlikeable thanks to that witch.
@@MasakoXKek. 🙄
Magic and to steal earrings
Well.. she entered using her magic, Babidi visited the Demon Realm doing the same thing.
Did you forget? She was there to make herself look pretty.
Elder Kai is pretty well known and liked in the Dokkan community because he is one of the easiest methods for leveling up your characters' super attacks. Beyond that, he's pretty mid as an actual character in the show.
*10 SLEEPY KAIS AND NOT A SINGLE SUPER LEVEL!!!!!!*
He's not my favorite, but he's impossible for me to forget since he's directly responsible for Ultimate Gohan.
Who?
Hey. It’s not his fault Gohan fumbled the ball when it mattered
Elder kai is interesting with how he can unlock people’s potential, like I don’t think kai’s are able to do that, unless its like an age thing, maybe fusing with the witch helped him gain abilities that require you to be old or something and that gave him that ability.
The fusion takes the best/most dominant traits, that includes knowledge
I'm quite sure that this unlocking potential spell was something that the Witch could do.
Maybe the witch had the power and because they fused he now knows it as well
I don't mind Elder Kai. He can get on people's nerves every now & then (me included) back when he was introduced during the Buu saga, but despite all that, he's actually a wise old Supreme Kai that takes his job seriously (well, as serious as he can).
Wait. . . . I just had a thought. Since Kibito Kai was able to be defused thanks to the Namekian dragon balls, do you think Elder Kai would do it too? On one hand, I honestly want to see Elder Kai become his young self again & just see what he'd do now that he's no longer old. On the other hand, I don't think Elder Kai wants to undue his fusion because 1, he's most likely content with being fused with an old witch, and 2, we already know he has a distaste in using the dragon balls so he'd most likely refuse.
There does also exist the possibility that at his point, he'd still be old if he unfused.
Old Kai did more for Z than Supreme Kai did. Gave Gohan his power boost, introduced potara fusion and even gave his life so Goku could fight Majin Buu.
Elder Kai: "I am hilarious and you will quote everything I say."
Thats nappa 😡😡😡😡😡😠😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬

I literally can't think of a single quote from Elder Kai.
I often use old Kai as a direct reference to a smarter Kai than Shin; he isn’t necessarily my favorite character but I never hated him (and yes I’m a woman who laughs my ass off at innapropriate old men in cartoons)
MasakoX does make Shin being unlikeable in his What If stories where he is usually the guy who screwed things up with his incompetence and know-it all attitude that backfired on him a lot.
Masako just hates the Kais and Zeno. King Kai is used sparingly in What Ifs, but he's a pretty fun character compared to Supreme and Elder.
@@alcatrazvongolaAlso King Kai is the most responsible amongst those kind of characters, which you think wouldn't be the case but it is lol
Shin's already unlikable in his incompetence in the show
Shin as a character was designed from the start to be at least somewhat incompetent. Elder Kaioshin was never necessary to point out how much he didn't know, as it was made apparent even before Boo showed up.
Honestly i love what Salad Saiyan did in his Super rewrite he kept the Elder Kai and Beerus life link. And in turn made Beerus sealed on a way.
Ohhh yeah that was cool. I also liked that he's done stuff with characters that have Yardratian training separating the Kais from inside of Buu. Giving the Dragon Team extra magical backup and lifting the massive load off Shin's shoulders. Seriously one of the best things I felt he's done TBH.
Honestly I like how Elder Kai's death was played for laughs. It felt very OG Dragonball to me. Honestly, the entire Buu saga seemed to be a mix of DBZ's high stakes and epic fights with Dragonball's goofiness. Truly Toriyama, which was fitting because I think he had less editorial oversight on this saga. Anywaysm it's what makes it my favorite arc of Z - I like a little whimsy and goofy thrown in!
Of all the characters we could have done without. Why couldn't Toriyama have remembered Launch?
Toriyama has memory issues.

Old kai: huh. Now I know what's it's like to be krillin, Yamcha, or chi chi.🙁
All three: Sucks doesn't.
Considering your gripes with Shin....i'm surprised the video isn't about him.
I'm pretty sure he already has one about him. Lol I understand the sentiment though.
The only time I remember getting significantly annoyed with him is during a Xenoverse 2 mission. Calling Goku a fool for dropping the button. He's in the middle of a fight, what did you think would happen?
They probably should have gone with the original plan and made the Z Sword the key to defeating Buu. It's something different, and could have led to cool action scenes.
I find it ironically funny that Elder Kai is such a jerk considering his mustache and a certain failed Austrian painter that had that exact same mustache. 😂
nahhhhhhhhhhhh
GT was important, showed us how to really getting old characters should look like and kept DB going for a bit more.
Hey Masako, what are your thoughts about doing a "What if Dr.Gero turned good"?
A popular fan theory is that, in the GT canon, SSJ 4 is "real" Super Saiyan, while 1, 2, and 3 were intermediate states. Previous Super Saiyans went right to 4, whereas Goku and Vegeta and everyone else needed the stepping stones because they didn't have tails.
I wouldn't go that far, but what I read in the past was that in regards to GT it was more that the various SSJ forms were just variations of the normal SSJ form, with SSJ4 being the next step beyond it by surpassing the Golden Ozaru state. So in a way one could see SSJ, SS2, and SSJ3 as more of grades of SSJ and SSJ4 is more of a SSJ2 since it's a much different form. But that's if we're dealing with GT and fortunately we don't have to deal with that mess.
Since we defused Shin and Kabito, why didn't defuse the Elder kai and the witch?
I gotta ask when you are going to jump back on "What if Hercule was a Z fighter?" That's one of your best stories IMO and it hasn't been shown any love in awhile.
Whoa whoa whoa. He may may not be my favorite character but he's definitely up there for the Kai's over all. Top 3. I like him more than Shin cuz at least Elder Kai has a personality and is more knowledgeable about stuff than him. and him sacrificing himself for Goku is meant to be a joke so no issue there.
I think you are being a bit harsh on him. He may be a Deus ex machina, but Toriyama makes the best Deus Ex Machinas lol
Eh I don’t mind Elder Kai especially since he’s shown to be much more helpful much more than Shin really.
Perfect midweek video masako! Thanks! You always make my day🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
While the lore for it didn't exist back when this happened, the fact that the witch didn't defuse from Elder Kai an hour later indicates she was apparently a being that qualified for the permanence of Potara?
If a Kai is part of the fusion, it will always be permanent as per Super lore, so it is actually him being the part of the exchange, that caused this. :)
@@Haverok_ Fair, but then why didn't the fusion begin to melt down like Zamasu did? If I remember right, that should happen to fusions if one is a mortal and one is an immortal. So does this mean the Old Witch was an immortal being that somehow was in the Sacred World?
@@somegingerguy4242 I think it was because Zamasu's body was immortal but not Goku black's body
@@somegingerguy4242 the reason for Merged Zamasu's state was that one was immortal and the other wasn't, causing his body to sort of break down as he couldn't completely maintain his form due this.
One thing that really pissed me off is the end of the Infinite History DLC of Xenoverse 2, when you side wirh Fu.
I know it's extended universe content (if its called that, I dunno the official term), but he basically gets Goku to try and murder him when he's doing no harm.
Interesting vid 👍
I feel Elder Kai is okay they just need to show his noble qualities more.
That Old Witch. Seriously if magic is ever explored in DB again in a big way, I would hope to know where old school witches like her and Baba come from.
I like how you take Old Kai's rambling stories at face value.
technically he seemed pretty swell just fishing and the witch may have been the mortal perv, if i remember
My own personal least-favorite is Supreme Kai himself because of how incompetent he was during the Buu saga despite all the hype and the prep for TOP , but Elder Kai was unbearable in Xenoverse 2, maybe apologize pick Supreme Kai of time and everything
Elder Kai is a literal Deus ex Machina. Huh.
Also, are we allowed to talk about his moustache, because oof.
That's to Lani, Kiran and Grants' Dragon Ball Xenoverse playthroughs whenever I see Elder Kai I think of Lani saying "Everybody do the Elder Kai!" when he did is angry stomping.
Beerus is a pretty cool cat.
I like Elder Kai as brief as he is. I actually like Elder Kai more than Hercule. Of course not my favorite but he is cool. I want to learn more about Popo
Hey masako, what are your thoughts on people showing your what-ifs during stream? I'm planning on doing a long stream in a few weeks and was wondering if I was able to have a mini web player showing one of them (probably the krillin one since you just finished it)
And I don't want to have it shown/heard on steam if you're against it, is all the reason I'm asking
So long as you credit me and provide a link to the playlist, OK
10:31
We actually saw the U6 attendant during the U6 Tournament saga.
When you get more heat than Roshi, Yamcha, or Krillin, you done effed up.
People love krillin and Yamaha, they just also love to make fun of them lol. I’m biased though, krillin is my favorite
I think Roh from Universe 9 annoys me way more than Elder Kai, but good points
9:06 I can see that happening, I doubt he was much of a hit with the childlike Zeno, he wants a happy excitable Supreme Kai for universe 7, not him, so they probably just replaced him then and there. The second he was gone.
I don't know, Tekking101 could probably make a 30+ minute video about Dr. Brief's cat.
Elder Kai wanting to motorboat Bulma’s awesome hooters is one of the few times she was sexualized *after* she turned 18, so I’ll allow it.
Elder Kai is far from my least favorite. I like him and how jarring his personality is compared to the other uptight prudes of the Kai World.
Still gonna give this honour to Zamasu.
Such a whiny, pathetic urchin that only gets inifinitely more annoying once he fuses and never shuts up.
Masako, for the next What if, do What if Turtle Trained With The Z Fighters series.
Thinking about it I get the feeling Beerus is actually life linked and connected to all three current Kaioshin for Universe 7. Majin Boo (Grand Supreme Kai), Shin (Current Supreme Kai) & Elder Kai (Prevous Supreme Kai But Never Gave Up his Role). And the reason Beerus goes away in the future timeline and others is also by coincidence the defeat of all three.
In this case wouldn't it be Deus Ex Gladius?
God from the Sword?
OK I'll see myself out.
I believe it would be ablative. So, Deus Ex Gladio.
Otherwise, this is technically correct, and I'll allow it. 📓
Thank you. I know nothing of proper latin grammer so I will go under the presumption you're correct@@DanielMWJ
Ribarnne annoyed me glad 18 took care of her
Can’t blame Masako for forgetting about Vegeta while making this video.
For me, Elder Kai just falls into the "he's just there" category of Dragon Ball characters. Y'know, with the likes of Piza or Sharpner. He's more important narratively than they are, sure, but he does one or two things and then the plot kinda forgets about him.
-Unlocks Gohan's potential
-Revives Goku
-????
-Tells Shin he's an idiot.
He never really does anything else particularly memorable but that goes both ways. He never does anything despicable either. He's not like Goku, or Dende, or Hercule, and he's not like Dabura or even Van Zant. Idk I think there are plenty of characters more unlikeable, and maybe a handful that are more unmemorable. So...I disagree, I guess?
"Nobodies favorite character"
I take offense to that. I love the Elder Supreme Kai for all his goods and "Faults". I honestly like characters like Roshi / Elder Supreme Kai because the humor value of being "problematic" as you call it is actually the amusing and entertaining part of their character. Others might find it distasteful but thats kind of the point. I don't see why everyone has to point this out every time that its something a character shouldn't be when it if anything enhances the character because of just how subversive it is.
The notification came on time for once
Purple Roshi is mid, but I can't say I have any strong feelings about him one way or another.
Definitely Purple Roshi…
To be fair, "Purple Roshi" isn't a separate character, just Roshi while he was under the control of Yurin's talisman, nothing more. Roshi is still Roshi and nothing in that scene changed his character.
@@seandobbins2231 we're talking about the Elder Kai here. Not super.
@@mxcassandra you said "Purple Roshi" so I assumed you were actually talking about Roshi. Also, Elder Kai is in both the Dragon Ball manga, DBZ, and Super so if we're completely discussing Elder Kai, then Super would be part of the discussion anyway.
@@seandobbins2231 You seriously need to to touch grass.
I hope there will a be a What If Fasha from Bardocks Team Survived.
Old Kai is the proof that unless the fusion combination is equal you get a weak fusi.....
Wait!!! Is old Kai the equivalent to a failed fusion like old or fat gotenks from the fusion dance?!
That might be the reason why he has the bare minimum of power from being a fusion of a witch and a high-ranking of creation god he needs to defuse!!!
Love from a Vaush and Tekking101 fan!
Well, I'm glad it's not master roshi.
The real reason everyone hates him is the mustache.😏
Mmmnope, can't say he's my favorite either, though I'd say he could be likable if he got a bit of a personality overhaul. Especially dropping THAT part of his nature. Even a plot device character can be enjoyable, so that's no excuse for him just being Celestial Roshi.
HowEVer, here's a thought I had...what if the reason the Old Kai was sealed in the Z-Sword because he tried to do what Zamasu did in your 'What If Zamasu Played Civ--I mean Turned Good?' video?
That gimmick of his is so weirdly specialized. You might argue that 'oh, it's like what Guru can do', but that's just the thing. You don't receive or create a technique like that without the impetus to use it to help make your people better. Sure, it could've only been used on the Kais, but what if that wasn't the intention?
*Especially* if there's any truth at all in the "awakened potential can improve the baseline of offspring" theory. That really would sound like a technique made to be used not on Kais, but mortals. (Yes, I know, fan-theory only as far as I know, but it would fit nicely into place with the rest of my rampant idiocy.)
I'm not saying he was going to go around using it on EVERY mortal ever. But I could see him using it on select "champions", perhaps no more than one a planet like Gohan, to paragon their entire people. (And if you think about it, Gohan would be the perfect pick for this, even moreso than Goku.) And since even that little bit of extra involvement could stoke the ire of the even-higher-ups, Beerus may've just gone 'ohhh no you don't, you don't go rocking MY boat, thank you' and had him sealed in the sword.
That would make the old fart quite a fair bit more interesting, I'd say.
EDIT: Crap, I totally missed a trick here myself. Alternatively, playing again off of the idea that his ability to grant the Ultimate Form to others was what got him sealed...what if he developed it as a response to Beerus's treatment to him?
"Oh, you won't respect me? Well, let's see if that attitude changes if I can make it more likely that we'll find a replacement for you... Maybe even someone who might actually listen to me, since *I'll* have given them the power to rival you in the first place!"
I mean, I could easily see the old coot getting into a tiff with Beerus like that. Or even that during their argument he let slip about this hand just to gauge the GoD's reaction, and...well. Enjoy your new home, old boy! It's a really sharp-looking domicile! Do spruce it up with a little hubris though; I hear it's really feng-shui~
He's the worst parts of king kai and roshi fused togather
Elder Kai has big Toriyama energy.
My most hated character is Mr.Satan up 'till the Buu saga
Yo also keep 4geting about Wat if Hercule trained under Roshi and wat if Bulma was a Z fighter for starters
you know there is one what if What if Old Kai used the dragonballs to separate himself from the witch?
hey hey hey freaky is in the house
“There is a character who is very important to the lore..”
Dr Brief’s cat?!
Without the cat, Trunks wouldn't exist
@@filipefigueiredo9847 ooh! We need a what if about this!
I always preferred the design of kibito kai.
Lump him in with Yamcha, Yajarobe, the pride troopers and that one weird guy from the Ginyou Force
They should've kept Kabitokai
ironically elder kai is my favorite kai character lol
If the witch isn't a Kaioshin, why hasn't the fusion ended?
honestly, i like elder kai more then zeno, and i really dont care about the "roshi stuff" its not really that big of a deal to be offended by.
I get that Toriyama probably doesn't take Dragonball all that seriously, but by god does he still make it way way WAYYYYYY more complicated than necessary lmao.
The timelines are so irreparably messed up. The main universe used to have 4 supreme kais and the buu thing supposedly happened millions of years ago, so shin is at least dozens of times older than he should be. Maybe Shin made himself truly immortal in order to cover for the loss of the other 3 supreme kais....or the lifespan of the kais should be ignored because it makes no sense.
Hm, i hope the Elder Kai gets more explored.
Clearly you've never seen Dolltaki
while he's definitely when the buu saga was going too long, was another roshi except really showed how outdated it was with a rather ass move on goku's part(agree with vegeta/gohan with how much he doesn't hold that much attachment should've offered chi chi.) and his ritual did feel ultimately pointless with how ultimate gohan turned out.
i do find some parts of him funny like beerus being who put him in the z sword(and him being cranky at dying in the future timeline, even before zamasu showed up that timeline wasn't kind to the z fighters/gods considering king kai doesn't help out or zeno noticing his attendants going inert.),like king kai getting a halo with their death and getting fused with a witch(be funny if she was revealed to be fortuneteller baba's relative.).
What if Monster Carrot turned good?
Relatively speaking, I could probably get to Elder Kai if I had to list 50 characters only because I'm very interested in how Gohan got his powers and how a Saiyan is able to surpass any Super Saiyan and even challenge Super Saiyan Blue by being in his normal state.
Just by finding that fascinating, I'd probably remember him just because I'd think "Gohan...oh, I guess Elder Kai unlocked his powers, Shin, his attendant..." I'd say his attendant is less memorable despite him fusing with Shin for so long.
Ah yes the elder Kai, the crazy person who’s personality it basically only that of the creepy witch who forced him into a potara fusion.
It would be cool if that witch was an agent of destruction of a god of destruction of universe 7
So is the old Kai like a trans kai? Is the old witch who fused with him still in there mentally?
Supposedly there's meant to be the double voice too but that wasn't lore yet since toriyama most likely hadn't come up with that yet.
WTF?! Elder kai is my favorite kai
If anyone ever asks me to name 50 DB characters, I'm naming Elder Kai 1st!
Congratulations on winning the orange gi again masako
Not gonna lie i wonder if elder kai gained witchcraft from fusing with a witch.
Kind of unrelated To the video as a whole but I actually like that little small theory ya made That the reason shin has son little knowledge on stuff It's cause old. Kai was the one who knew everything. And he couldn't exactly pass the knowledge in his state.
It'd be more sensible for that to be from Buu merking the other four active kaioushin.
I wonder if EK's story about the witch actually happen however. I mean think of it this way. He fuses with a girl and yet all he can think of after that is where to get more. He's practically married no need
I am the resident Zeno hater. Little demon ruins everything he touches!
I thought old Kai was funny and rather wise for his knowledge of the Saiyan race his involvement in giving Goku Super Saiyan 4 was impressive compared to how he acted in Z
Vegeta should use Spirit Fission on him
I don't mind Elder Kai... Granted, I've never gotten to that part of Z yet, I only know him from the Xenoverse 2 game but, although a bit grouchy, and weird, but he's... well... aside from those two things he's pretty neutral, he is kind to those who he warms up to like Trunks and the custom character...
Just saying, though. I'd love for Old Kai and Master Roshi to be in the same room as each other at some point. It'd be cringey, but entertaining.
DBS Elder Kai is kinda goated, watching bug fights.
I wouldn't call him the most unlikeable character. He's certainly unnecessary but I dislike Oolong far more.
