The Synchronicity album was a perfect finale for them. This song was a B side?! It deserved a better fate. But, the old, classic story, egos and ambition sent the band on their separate ways...
Excellent composition, well performed...as The Police always do

If only they would have kept going a bit more into the 80s with 1 or 2 more albums! Well, at least there's lots from them that I haven't heard yet...have a great night!

Never had a bad album and left on top. Love these 3 chaps soooo much. They didn't get along, but they made brilliant music together. A full album review for any of their albums should be on your horizon 😊

Yes, a terrific song! The Police were amazing. The three guys were so skilled in their instruments. It is a shame that Sting and Stuart clashed so much. It would have been fascinating to see how their sound would have developed after this great album.

Agreed! How could I have missed this one all my life, being a Police fan? Exactly...imagine what '85, '87 and '89 Police albums would have sounded like. This album is amazing- Synchronicity II is so awesome, I'm playing it as I type!

The Police listened to King Crimson's 1981 album "Discipline" at some point. We all did. It changed the game. The instrumental track "The Sheltering Sky" from that album is equally moody and evokes evening in the desert. At least it does to me. The Police's Andy Summers and King Crimson's Robert Fripp have known each other since the 60s. During a break in touring for The Police's album "Ghost in the Machine" and King Crimson's "Discipline" the old friends got together and recorded a pair of experimental albums.

Wow, of course I had no idea Andy worked with Fripp. Thanks for the info and fro watching!

'The sky turned to black...would he ever come back?' Always loved that line. Lyrics aside and the fine vocal performance, the instrumentation is sublime on this track. Loved this tune from the moment I first played the cassette way back in 1983 and one of band's finest moments out of so many. The Police went out on a creative high.

This is my second favorite bass performance among The Police songs - my all-time favorite is "Walking on the Moon", from their second album, "Reggatta de Blanc". Sting was really inspired to play in both songs. The live version of "Tea in the Sahara" from Sting's epic "Bring On the Night" double live album is also awesome (in fact, *everything* is awesome in that album, and I had the privilege of seeing Sting live the next year on tour for his next album, "Nothing Like the Sun", but he was still with the same FABULOUS band as in "Bring On the Night" and played a lot from it as well - Kenny Kirkland on the piano in "When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around" was JAW-DROPPING!).
But neither is my favorite Police SONG because I don't have one. They made so many songs that I love and keep returning to that I can't pick just one. "Roxanne", "Message in a Bottle", "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", "Don't Stand So Close to Me", "Spirits in the Material World", and almost the entire "Synchronicity" album, which is justly considered one of rock's all-time masterpieces, and I agree.
I only say "almost" because Andy Summers' totally Freudian "Mother" is completely out of place in that otherwise totally Jung-themed album, and the CD bonus track "Murder by Numbers" is merely okay, but otherwise "Synchronicity" is a PERFECT album! That includes even Stewart Copeland's "Miss Gradenko", which I found silly at first, but it grew in me over the years and now I find Stewart's drum work in it awesome - in fact, I like the "precise" type of drummer like Stewart more than the "flamboyant" type like John Bonham, but unfortunately I seem to be in a minority and the latter type has much more popularity and prestige.
The Police only made 5 studio albums, but they were all powerful bombshells and left an enduring legacy. They completely revolutionized the music that was being made, showed new paths and directions, made something so unlike anything that came before them that they were hard to classify in any existing genre - they created their own. All from only 3 guys.
From Sting's solo career, the jazzy "Dream of the Blue Turtles" was an unusual gem, especially the beautiful "Moon over Bourbon Street", which I absolutely adore. The aforementioned "Bring On the Night" live double album left me in such a state of awe that when I bought it I had to listen to it three times in a row nonstop. "Nothing Like the Sun" has ups and downs, but "The Lazarus Heart" and "Be Still My Beating Heart" (the bridge is so beautiful, I wish it was longer) are really good. (Curiosity: the Brazilian edition of "Nothing Like the Sun" is a collector's item because it has an extra track, "Frágil", a Portuguese-language version of "Fragile", which is in the regular album. Predictably, Sting butchers the Portuguese language so bad that the lyrics are really hard to understand without reading the text.) The introspective "The Soul Cages" album from 1990 was not well received, but I love it, especially "Why Should I Cry for You?", which I find one of Sting's most beautiful songs.
And a rare and unlikely recommendation is the *supposed* "Demolition Man" soundtrack. "Supposed" because a version of the homonymous Police song is the only actual link to the disposable action movie with Wesley Snipes. The rest of the album is a precious Sting live concert that includes what is probably the best version ever of "King of Pain" (the worst one is easy: Alanis Morrissette's mutilation-murder of it) and a true rare gem: Sting singing The Beatles' most acclaimed song, "A Day in the Life".

That bass was killer. I have this album but I don’t remember hearing this track! That album was huge that spawn a bunch of hits so it’s no surprise you never heard it much in the mainstream.

    Your Music Mirrors Your Mind
    Song suggestion: Set Them Free
    Band/Artist: Sting
Album: The Dream of the Blue Turtles
Sting's first solo effort. It was about the same time Sting had a part in the original Dune movie.

Funny you said that last thing. One of the very first songs I can still recall hearing (in 1980) was The Police, De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da, at my cousins wedding. 5 year old me approved!!

Great to hear some Police music with you. Chilling vibes from a band who were known for fast songs. Versatile musicians they were obviously. It was for their last album 1983 Synchronicity if I remember. Thanks for this Brandon!

Nice to hear The Police! I’ve always liked their music, especially those with that reggae vibe. It’s a shame they don’t have more studio albums. This is a great song ….great vibe as always. You can tie in the theme sometime by playing the song “Desert Rose” by Sting. It’s a great song that has many of the things you like to hear. This is on his album Brand New Day which has so many great songs. You’d love the title track as it features Stevie Wonder on harmonica. Another strong start to the week! 😊

Ah yes, Walking On The Moon! So many great ones. Yes, I know Desert Rose and Brand New Day very well. Never knew it was Stevie though, so cool! And of course Fragile is so great beyond words for me, I'm certain you'd know that one...excited for this week's lineup for sure, especially a certain LONGGGG song... 😊

    • @drmagic60
      @drmagic60 4 месяца назад +1

A really LONGGG one….you’ll have me thinking about that! What comes to mind could be Starcastle “Fountains”, Yes “Machine Messiah”, Type O Negative “Haunted” which are all over 10 minutes. Or maybe the 36 minute masterpiece “The Six Wives of Henry VIII” by Rick Wakeman???
