Yet another side to them! A smooth cyclic journey of mourning and regret... Thanks for watching! 🥰
I love this side of dire straits
I haven't heard this song since 1987! I was in high school marching band playing alto sax, and I taught myself to play the sax part of this song, lol. This was really one of the last songs of this type to come out. After 1985 the pop music scene veered off into very different territory.
Wow, that's so cool!! 37 year gap between listens 🙂 Thanks for watching (time traveling haha) and sharing a nice memory with me...
My joint-favourite track by Dire Straits along with Six Blade Knife, RIP Michael Brecker. Good choice - especially like the dark alleyway backdrop 🙂
One of my first CDs, it just sounded SO good. The album is in my top 5. So many great tracks, and varying styles with top notch song writing and musicianship. My other favorite "sleeper" tracks: Ride Across the River (Master Class in atmospheric soundscapes), Mans Too Strong (story telling), and One World (Mark ripping it up with his blues licks).
Mark ,forever in my heart
They never disappoint. Thanks B.
Funny, I said the exact same thing a few comments ago! You're welcome G, hope your week is going great!
"Private Dancer" by Tina Turner was also written by Mark Knopfler, but he thought it would be better suited to a female singer so it ended up being recorded by Tina, but all of Dire Straits except Mark played on it.
Yes, thanks. Love that song. I remember hearing shades of it in another Dire Straits reaction I did a while back!
Another great song from such a classic album! I think that one of my favorite parts was that intro. Some of Mark’s vocals gave me Chris Rea vibes. Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday! 😊
Yea, I can see the Rea reference. I mentioned the deeper tones of Mark's voice here. Rea's coming back soon, but excited to dip into more 90s, likely 2 more times this week!! Nap time, then back to editing haha...
Thanks for reacting to this track. Not a Dire Straits fan but this is in my top ten singles of all time, shame it wasn't more successful but still a classic
You're welcome Steven, glad you love the song! You like Planet of New Orleans at all? That one blew me away...
Oh my sainted heart! These genius tones of the late Michael Brecker's saxophone hit me emotionally every time I hear them on this beautiful song. 🥲 His playing was so unique and instantly recognisable. You can hear it on various recordings by Eric Clapton and Paul Simon, among others. God rest his soul.
Hey Alec! So cool that Michael worked with many of the greats. Love that he was heavily featured in this one. Thanks for tuning in, take care!
You said it, ultra smooth. Vert hypnotic.
Smoother than a baby tomato! 🍅 LOL....glad you liked the song 😊
😃Well I'm glad your glad. 😊Happy Tuesday night.
💙🎵🎶🎶
Same 2U!
This album is an amazing piece of work. A big part of my musical life in the 1980s. Both uptempo and slow numbers. Some great wordplay in this one, and of course the horns.
Good evening... Glad I picked one you love today! Can't go wrong with Mark and the guys. Excited for Ride Across the River and of course I'm itching for more from On Every Street too... 🙂
@@retroreactions.... Can't go wrong.
I've walked through the city around the same time of the morning this song is set in 🤣🤣🤣
Brothers in Arms is such an amazing album. Thanks for sharing.
Ha! No questions from me! I was told by more than one that Ride Across The River is great!!
Hurray! Like before listening! One of the beloved!👏👏👏💓
Very underrated song !
Oh wow, it’s been forever since I’ve heard this. I totally forgot about that trumpet work. Maybe the single started with the sax? I think that must be it.
So many styles to Dire Straits. Great choice. 👋😁
Hello! I read that the trumpet is missing on the vinyl version for some reason. That's probably what you heard back then? Thanks for dropping by!
This is one of my favorite Dire Strsits songs. It’s so funny - I was playing this song for some friends yesterday… same day that you posted your reaction! I just discovered your channel yesterday… really enjoying your song choices and commentaries … keep it up!
Hi there Randy! Talk about good timing! Glad you found my channel and that you like some of my choices 😊 I try to be diverse with the music, as I have a huge range of musical tastes. Thanks so much for your support. Hey, if you like Autumn Leaves, there's a video here of me singing the song!
@@retroreactions.... I do like Autumn Leaves, in fact one of the bands I'm in (a jazz big band) played it at our concert last night!
Awesome, such a great song....
Such a beautiful song ❤ The next Dire Straits song you should react to is "Tunnel of love", a real masterpiece ! Peace Brandon
Hey there! Glad you love this song too. I've added your vote for TOL. Nice to see ya and have a great night!
THIS 👆 and THIS 👆
Your vote has been added too! Thanks
golden earring - twilight zone ??? So Nostalgic !
Hello Annette! I do know that song from radio, but I see the album version is almost 8 minutes long! I doubt I've heard the full version. I went ahead and added it to my list. Radar Love was already on the list. Thanks for stopping by and being first here today! 🥇
Dang…who’s the sax maestro on this? And those drums have such a great swing.
Michael Brecker. Wow, just saw he received 15 Grammys and also worked with several legends!
An odd thing about the drums, this and all the other drum tracks were originally played by the bands regular drummer but then re-recorded by American session drummer Omar Hakim who's playing you hear here. The only part left by the original drummer is the intro to Money for Nothing with the rest of the song played by Hakim. Apparently they decided they didn't like the 'sound' of the recording of the original drum tracks so got Omar in to replay them (apparently mimicking the original parts already played) as he would nail the job quickly. That's the only explanation I've ever found on the internet but it seems strange. If i'd been their original drummer i'd have been pretty hacked off about it...😅
@@christianparsons6050 no kidding! That would cut pretty deep
Totally😮 Must be more to the story... However Omar was and still is a great drummer.....still out there doing his thang....
You should check the live version too. Btw, you'll love the track "The Missing Spark" from Clepsydra. Please react to that! Greetings from Turkey 🎉
Yes, the album's title track is epic.... But this song is still my favorite on the album. It can fit more listening opportunities, and you don't necessarily need a box of tissues by the end. Well, not often, anyway. ;-]
Hi Robert! So glad you love this song. Like so many bands here on the channel, they never disappoint...Thanks for dropping by..
Your Latest Trick would have fit well on MK's solo albums. Not exactly rock, more jazzy blues. Nice.
Per usual, MK can spin a tale with precise lyrics, the sax outro echoing the sadness of the lyrics. Well written song overall, but, it is MK, of course it is
More worth a listen from Brothers In Arms (deep cuts, not the obvious hits, and our host has already done the title track):
Why Worry
One World
Ride Across The River
Gotta remember to get to MK solo music eventually... I'm basically guaranteed to like it! Adding your suggestions to my list, thanks!
No puedo creer que un ochentero como vos NUNCA haya escuchado esta canción 😂, y ni hablar el disco completo, que es el mejor de DS.
I can't wait the DAY of your reaction to the Hackett The Tokyo Tapes sequence that I did recommended to you, It's been a long time since you last bought cleenex, so... go to buy before that reaction.
Viví una vida protegida al estilo Depeche Mode....😁
What? I would NEVER cry on this channel!! 🤥 😂😂
@@retroreactions.... I know... you are a tipical latin MACHO hahaha, go... do that Hackett sequence reaction , don't make laught with your comments :P
More, much more Kansas please. How about ALL of Leftoverture?
Hello. Well, luckily Kansas is on permanent rotation on the channel, but with so many artists here, the gap between turns is about 3 months currently. Looks like there are only 3 songs that I have not heard from Leftoverture. Have you seen all my reactions for the others?
