Absolutely love him. You're right, he seems very humble, unlike most music stars. Listening to his solo work is very relaxing, and this concert was amazing! Thanks for the reaction.

Mark has always stated that although he loves success, he loathes Fame. He’s all about his music, and I just adore him singing his own wonderful meaningful lyrics. It’s well worth watching all the songs on this ‘A Night in London’, gorgeous. Loving your reactions so much. I❤MK so much 😂

A few years ago, Mark did a wonderful, beautiful version on the old Louis Armstrong standard, What A Wonderful World, on the Chris Botti album. What a beautiful song.

Mark actually asked if his Celtic style is more Irish or Scottish, and the Irish Celtic musicians said "Scottish". Mark was born in Glasgow (Scotland) and moved to Newcastle (a city close to the Scottish Border, so still has very strong Celtic influence) when he was about 9. Mark describes his music as where the Tyne (the river that Newcastle is on) meets the Delta (referring to the Mississippi Delta) - by that he means a combination of British Folk/Celtic/Rock and American Jazz/Blues/Rock.

Sorry, I have strong objection to your comment, "he doesn't have the star quality..." Ofcourse he is a star but, without a single hint of attitude! So laid back and casual but super genius with his guitar, song writings, compositions and oh so different and fantastic singing! I'm now 62 and I'm listening to Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler since 1985 till today and lost count of how many times I have listened to them over n over! Love them❤❤

Mark is a fabulous musician. His right hand man, base player & co-founder of Dire Straits John Illsley is right there with Mark on stage. John has his own solo career now & still recording.
One other British guitarists you must react to is Snowy White. His most famous song is Bird of Paradise released in 1983. It's a great forgotten track from a very talented guitarist who has played with the best - including Pink Floyd & Thin Lizzy.

That's not John but a real master of bass and upright bass Glenn Worf. This whole band is informally known as 96-ers and with some tiny changes has been playing with Mark for 27 years now

Golden Heart, the solo album of Mark Knopfler is a fabulous album and IMO this is the best one considering the total composition and very passionate guitar playing by Mark. Another wonderful track is "I'm the fool". The title track is awesome too.

A Night in London is One of the best concerts ever to watch if you have the time. On the Irish connection at the start was Donal Lunny (Bouzouki) Liam O Flynn (Tin Whistle) both from the group Planxty and Mairtain O Connor (Button Acordian) who played with De Dannan.

They made 9 albums & stayed together approx 26 years. I❤MK

Thank you, again, for your reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. There are many more songs from Mark's solo career that I could - and probably will - recommend. It's interesting to see the stark difference in atmosphere when compared to the stadium concerts that Dire Straits used to pull off. Both have their unique qualities, but I really love the intimacy of this concert, and there were some great songs performed that night. Hopefully this will be the start of your Mark Knopfler solo career journey! Much love ♥

Hola ,querida hermosa pareja.

That was a special, extended BBC episode of Jooles Holland presents, recorded in April 1996, prior to the big MK's European Tour after Golden Heart album was released in March that year. The rest is history. He hasn't played stadiums anymore but big sold out halls and beautiful venues up to 20-25k people so the atmosphere and a bit of intimacy was back on a track as he wanted to

Mark always stresses that he so much loves playing to audiences of 100-200. Much like the old Deptford days of pre-Dire Straits.
And it's pronounced [DET-ford ] - much like Worcestershire sounds like Bertie Wooster.😊

He is not pretentious, I think is what you are trying to say. Mark said being successful was great but he didn't like "Fame". He said he liked being able to walk down the street and no one would recognise him. You have now started on a great journey into Mark's solo catalogue. Enjoy.
