This is a great album. This and soul cages are my favorite sting albums ever. I love how he starts singing every little thing she does is magic at the end.
This entire band is a mind blowing group of world class musicians.... the type where other musicians go..."Damn!" Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, David Sancious on keyboards, Dominic Miller on Guitar, and Sting on Bass, Vocals and also music and lyrics. The first few Sting solo albums Dream of the Blue Turtles, Nothing Like the Sun, Soul Cages. and Ten Summoners Tales...will knock you down if you are a musician. The rest are good too, but I just particularly like the first few. Check out Something the Boy Said on the Ten Summoners Tales album. Great review -- have a good one!
I love this song, especially the very end where he references the vocals found at the end of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Vinnie Colaiuta was playing drums; he's such a fabulous drummer!
John Slop meet Vinnie Colaiuta.... Yes, the song is in 5/4, however, Vinnie is accenting every 3rd 8th note OVER 5/4. So it's crazy! Vinnie ia all over Frank Zappa's stuff too, but really, he's in most drummer's top 5 all-around percussionists. This entire album is a masterpiece. Do yourself a favor and listen to the whole thing. Top top top musicianship.
A nice touch at the end with the last line being the hook from Every Little Thing She Does is Magic by The Police where good old simple love songs were what made The Police so huge and can still be heard in this later number
The albums "Nothing Like the Sun" and "Bring On the Night" are masterpieces. If you want to get a bit of Sting's processes, there is a documentary called "Bring On the Night" as well, it documented the prep for his first solo career concert. "Seven Days" has some call backs to some of his other songs like "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" the lyrics "I have to tell a story, Of a thousand rainy days since we first met, It's a big enough umbrella, But it's always me that ends up getting wet" are from that song.
A nice touch at the end with the last line being the hook from Every Little Thing She Does is Magic by The Police where good old simple love songs were what made The Police so huge and can still be heard in this later number where once again he doesn’t have the nerve to make his move being exactly how the earlier Police number started in 1981
This is a top tier Sting song. The songwriting always suggests to me that Sting is somehow channeling Paul Simon a little in this one. Sting is like a vein of ore, that gets bigger as you mine it.
nice, honest reaction. the song is about someone (the singer) who cannot commit to the relationship. The woman has given him an ultimatum - you have one week to decide or its over. The chorus shows how he tries to see how long he can continue to procrastinate. great song.
This song is from the fabulous album entitled Ten Summoners Tales. Every song is unforgettable. My favourite song of all time, Shape of My Heart, is on this album. It has the most enchanting lyrics. Please make time to listen to it. You won't be sorry. I'm sure you will also love it. I believe this album is constructed to follow the tradition of French Troubadors, in medieval times, thus the lyrics of songs like Seven Days are more unusual. They kind of reflect a different time. That said, the album is timeless. An absolute gem,
Seven Days was written in 1992. Rumor has it that Trudie (now Sting's wife) gave him an ultimatum-we get married or it's over. Sting, wary of marriage because his marriage to Frances had ended in divorce had been with Trudie for about a decade by this point. Sting's song was imagining if another suitor showed up and the lady said it's time to commit or I am leaving with him. So the speaker ponders his choices, sizes up his rival and looks at his options. By the end he is trying to talk himself into it but the great ambiguity is we never really know what he does. Take 50 minutes and sit down and listen to Ten Summoner's Tales from start to finish. For someone who doesn't know Sting's music very well, it's a great entry point as it showcases Sting's songwriting and his mix of styles and genres very well.
Sting is an amazing musician - and the songs on this album are fantastic. If you want to listen to another great band with three of the most gifted musicians in the world check out dirty loops - and remember to check out their credits in the end for a good laugh. They have done some awesome stuff - and each song very different but you're always in for a treat and some nice surprises.
Now check out the live version from the Dave Letterman appearance. Vinnie is really let loose in some parts, best drumming ever heard in American television's history
This is a great album. This and soul cages are my favorite sting albums ever. I love how he starts singing every little thing she does is magic at the end.
Agree. Soul cages is great.
Sting is a genius. Ordinary mortals can appreciate his gifts but can never fathom his creative Muse. Just sit back and enjoy.

Great review -- have a good one!
Sting is heavily jazz influenced. Sophisticated is a good description.
I love this song, especially the very end where he references the vocals found at the end of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic".

I love the references to 2 police songs
.. 6 feet 10 (can't stand losing you) and.. it's a big enough umbrella ...( every little thing ..)
Such a laid-back cat
Una exquisita banda, con Vinnie y Dominic, más el talento musical de Sting🎶👏👏👏
Thank you Adam for suggesting this 🙋♀️
Thanks for the great sting review John!🎁
And thank you, doll face. 🙂
SMOKIN’ 5 groove. 🤗🤗🤗

Sting is a wordsmith/musician of the highest order
This is a top tier Sting song. The songwriting always suggests to me that Sting is somehow channeling Paul Simon a little in this one. Sting is like a vein of ore, that gets bigger as you mine it.
They live in the same apartment block in NYC
This is my favorite Sting song. Yay
I absolutely LOVE Hugh Paghdam productions.

Sting.... genius as usual.

that chorus, damn
Pop perfection, Vinnie drummed for Zappa and Jeff Beck
I never liked the commercial radio side of Sting but this is a true masterpiece.
This song is a masterpiece; drummer is Vinnie Colaiuta
one of my favorite songs of all time. great fng album.
David Sancious is using staccato plucking on those keys to get that string effect pretty sure..
Now check out the live version from the Dave Letterman appearance. Vinnie is really let loose in some parts, best drumming ever heard in American television's history
It's in 5. I don't know if he intended to be ironic with the theme being 7. It's a masterpiece either way.
Vinnie clinic begins at 6:00
I'm losing my shit double cat feet at 6:45 we need to see the cat..
This is a cool song
Only Sting writes a killer pop song in 5/8
It's about procrastination.
I think this is in 5/4 time.
Vinnie in Keep it Greasey fron Joes Garage Zappa Album destroyed your mind ... Zappa is the best !!!! with Colaiuta too much
Oh man, that's such a raw album. "The Steve Gadd clone..." 🤣🤣
Just great performances from everyone involved.
How is it possible that you didn't know this song? Fake reaction.
