  • A lot of people have problems with constipation. However, how it is evaluated might surprise you! Watch this video to figure out how a GI doctor evaluates consitpation!!
Many people are worried that constipation is a sign of cancer - but this is most likely not true. The set of symptoms that one would have when they do have cancer are very different.
We will discuss your symptoms in a lot of detail! Hisotry is the most important aspect of the evaluation. Do not be ashamed or embarrassed to give us the details! We hear about poop - or the lack thereof - all day long.
There are criteria for constipation and IBS-C. First, a patient needs to have less than 3 spontaneous bowl movements per week. Second, the patient needs to have persistent symptoms for 3 out of the last 6 months. Finally, there needs to be an impact on the patient's life - pain, straining, incomplete evacuation, or incontinence. These efforts to have a bowel movement can be extreme - leading to loss of work or even suicidal thoghts.
What tests will be done to confirm chronic constipation or IBS-C? Not only will we disccus your history of constipation, but also the function of the colon and rectum. Seperate tests can be conducted to look at the function and transit of the colon which are introduced in this video.

The anxiety when you don't poop, then the anxiety when you know ur poop all the pain going to have and or being afraid ur going rupture a blood vessel in ur brain by straining so hard. I never met a GI doc who did more than say take Mirilax. Which I'm a;ready taking.

There are a lot of nuances to these tests. If you had success with pelvic floor therapy then you may need to pursue that further. I’d try to go to a larger center for it.
