As a vet, I used 1911 when I got out in1983 as my preferred carried gun. When I tried the Glock 30s .45cal for the first time I noticed it handled the recoil better than my heavier 1911.
I expected because the Glock was lighter the recoil would be terrible, but I was wrong. I shoot and carry using 200-grain rounds. I also have a 9mm in my collection, but I only carry my Glock 30S 45cal and I expect I will always unless they sell phasers eventually.

I was always taught that 45 sucked, and I believed them. I got curious a couple of months ago and bought a Rock Island 5 inch 45. I am now PO'ed because I could have gotten that pistol a lot sooner. It has made me a 45 fan. I shoot it better at 20 yards than I do my best 9mm. I won't completely do away with my 9's but I carry that 45 a lot now. And I get to shoot it a lot more because it is so easy to cast bullets for it, which makes it cheaper to shoot believe it or not. (Disclaimer, as long as I can get primers) LOL

      @waldo4133 Год назад +1

Funny enough the reason most people have an easier time shooting a compact or even a full length 1911 and 45 caliber is if you take into account to ballistics
For example, the benefits of a 9 mm projectile over a 45 or present in full size pistols
If you shoot a 45 caliber in a compact 1911, you’re getting better ballistics because most of the powder is being burnt, whereas with a 9 mm in a shortened handgun, most of the powder and benefits of the ballistics are seen with a full-size handgun
Therefore, ballistically in a compact size of 45 is always going to be superior
Size 9 mm full size 45 there is cons and pros on both sides. Realistically, I would rather reduce over penetration. And have a huge hole.

Go shoot a 1911 side by side a Glock 19 and tell me the .45 isn't OBVIOUSLY more powerful. The holes are bigger and the thing fucking goes BANG 😂 needles to say I'm slowly moving away from 9mm. More rounds are great for people who just wanna throw rounds around sloppily.

I typically carry my G19, but sometimes I do carry my G30sf or my Kimber CDP Pro II. My qualification groups and times are about the same between the three weapons (with a slight accuracy advantage to the Kimber). Since I have been shooting for many years, I can honestly say that I don't notice the recoil. However, my daughter - who has been shooting substantially less time than I have, still has not problem keeping rounds on target with any of the three firearms. "Recoil" or "kick" has never been a complaint from anyone (from kids to adults) that have shot either of my .45s.

A 45 caliber is just as good a caliber as any. If one can shoot a 9mm they can shoot and handle a 45acp in my opinion. Nowadays most use a Glock or striker-fired weapon for 45acp, more knowledgeable shooters use the 1911 type pistols in its traditional single stack 8 plus 1 with a 5-inch barrel that’s no big deal with its slim frame and I love the platform and carry it often due to it being used by me in the army.

The weight tames the recoil and the grip in my hands makes it an ideal point and shoot weapon, no sights needed out to 25 yards. I love this gun, after owning Sigs, Colts, Smiths and Glocks. The narrow slide helps in concealed carry. The only problem is I don’t think it is manufactured any longer. If you find one grab it. He's spending all this time on why we shouldn't like a 45 caliber gun. But he's not that upto date on what is out there for the 45.
The 45 shield performance center shoots great with a ported barrel. Springfield also makes a great small xds that shoots great according to alot of shooters. My 45 shield performance center is only a little bigger than the 9mm version and is easily controllable. The hst 45 round also expands reliably much bigger than a 9mm, dumping it's energy into the target with less over penetration.
The fact is, just get what you prefer in caliber and handgun choice and if you can put your rounds on target then you should be fine.
This is just my opinion, since I'm tired of people caliber bashing. You are trying to stop the bad guy yes, but I wonder how well it goes over in court blasting 15 rounds of 9mm into the bad guy. And if it's better to actually shoot less rounds, then I prefer my round are bigger on the chance they might have a slightly better chance of hitting something vital and bigger hole to bleed out through.
Just some thoughts from someone other than a 9mm only club.

You can make an argument for or against any gun, any caliber. Handguns are personal. Not all handguns or calibers work for all people. Someone with smaller, weaker, hands might not be able to shoot a small framed handgun in 45 acp, just as someone with giant meat hooks might not be able to shoot one of the new, tiny, micro 9mm's well. If you find a handgun that you can conceal well and shoot well, then that is the right carry gun for you.

I like that it’s slower and less likely to over penetrate while delivering a nasty wound cavity, it’s always a very big handgun and shoots really nice and I’m very accurate with it. I might end up using my 5.7 for home defense but haven’t trained with it enough and found the right ammo yet. But 9mm for IWB , and I keep my 5.7 in my bag. I just got a M&P 2.0 10mm that I’m extremely fond of and may be a carry option moving forward in rotation for certain situations and the winter time. I have to find the right ammo because over penetration is important to me personally. But I like the versatility of 10mm. I can have a nasty ass load or a load that performs closer to a .40 SW. so it’s still more bang than my 9mm. I love the way that gun feels in my hand. PSA will be coming out with a 5.7 rock compact and I’ll definitely be getting it when it’s released. I love how 5.7 works. The capacity and how fast and explosive it is but dumps all that energy and does jumping jacks and limits over penetration.

I loved your .40s&w videos, and think .40 is the greatest handgun round ever created. However, while I carry a Glock 23 Gen5, I think the Glock 30 is the most accurate Glock pistol because it tends to torque less in the hand. It has the perfect power:capacity ratio, particularly for restricted states. The G23 is noticeably more punishing to shoot than the G30. I think the learning curve is far less steep for 230gr .45 than 180gr .40.

@@AmmoMart Word on the street is, a Lone Wolf .40 conversion barrel in the G29 will not only feed reliably with stock mags, but also feel like shooting a 9mm and allow for cloverleaf groups. Glock would do themselves a huge service by selling OEM conversion kits, though it'll probably never happen for fear of liability.

People today focus and tout so much on superiority of one cartridge vs another cartridge. Hogwash! Owning and shooting handguns in just about every caliber/cartridge configuration over the last 40 years has reinforced one thing to me. The size, type, controls and accuracy of a handgun are the most important aspects regarding a defensive handgun than the chambering. I would much rather face down an unskilled opponent using a tricked out high capacity 10mm than a highly skilled opponent with a 22LR revolver.

Just my opinion but the one place a full size .45 really shines is the use for a nightstand/home defense tool. It being quieter than a 9mm or .40 makes a difference. Adding a suppressor on it in a home with long hallways is also nice. You might not get the same capacity as a 9mm but a double stack 13+1 is plenty at those distances imho. It will have light recoil as well and it's further mitigated if you're into adding lights on your gun. I'm thinking of a 5" full size Springfield XD. I love those guns actually.

Provided the bullet opens up, a .45acp will open up to about .75 caliber on impact. Physics and math says something big is more likely to tear up a vital organ than something little, per any given impact location. .45 doesn't need to be going crazy fast. It's 106 grains heavier than the ultra-common 9mm, It's still going to penetrate. A paint bucket will penetrate if filled with concrete and flung 80% the speed of sound.

I hope Glock paid you well for that commercial. A bit long, but they'd be proud. I do find it odd that you don't mention a few key points, though:
The number one thing a Glock guy buys after buying a Glock is new sights
The laser grip issue is universal for all grip lasers unless the laser is placed under the barrel as opposed to mounted on the grip.
Much can be done to reduce recoil regardless of caliber (weaker loads, different grain weights, hybra-porting, etc.).
Follow-up shots have a lot to do with the firearm itself (SA vs. DA and so forth) and not just caliber.
I mean, anecdotal is all fine and good . Personally, I lived in Alaska, and a former buddy is an officer there now (Fairbanks), and he carries an FN 45. Strange huh?

Historically, the John Wick franchise has done more for the 9mm than any old opinion or better bullet options. Everyone likes the bullet hose, high round capacity wonder pistols and may have bought into the idea that somehow bullets seek out their targets. It’s not reality, only fantasy. However, practice is reality. If you live long enough, you will see this fragile thought almost everywhere that individuals have self doubt. If you can hold back your immediate fear and replace it with assured expectation based on reality and capability, recoil worries disappear like soap bubbles in a breeze. “A prepared mind” and all that it entails, along with muscle memory will do just fine. If you spend more money on ammo and practice than on the next “best” 9mm, you’re headed in the right direction. A tool is a tool, learn how to use it. If you just want to look cool, there’s an app for that.

Man, your logic is flawed, please let me explain: Concealed carry is for personal protection, this means you only fire when your life is in danger. That might happen once or twice in your lifetime (hopefully never). This means you don't have to worry about the experience being fun or pleasant. What you do have to worry about is: Will the guy I'm shooting at go down after I shot him or is he gonna keep charging? Caliber does matter, the velocity of the projectile absolutely matters, and the weight of the projectile absolutely matters. Of course, shot placement matters too, but who can aim accurately under stress? Professionals mess up when they are under stress, so don't expect me to be calm and shoot all straight when someone is threatening my life. A 180-grain .45 acp is a great choice for self-defense because it's much more potent than 124-grain 9 mm and you don't need to empty a mag into a guy to stop him. For fun and practice, you might not wanna practice with a .45, but when it comes to taking people out, a .45 will beat a 9 mm every day of the week. A guy I used to know was shot twice in the chest with 9 mm hollow points 8 days ago. He walked 100 yards before he fell on the ground and died. Think about this before you tell people to choose a 9 mm for self-defense. The dude was going to die, no doubt, but he could still walk 100 yards, which means he could still shoot you and/or stab you to death. If he was shot with two .45 acp hollow points, he would drop right there. 9 mm is great for practice but sucks for self-defense...

With the 45acp and 380 acp one really needs to do a lot of testing with different types of ammunition. These calibers are low pressure and slow so hollow point ammunition seems to struggle to expand properly depending on the gun. These calibers were designed back 1903 to 1908 so they were based on 45 colt or black powder revolvers they were designed to replace. At that time to the best of my knowledge hollow point bullets didn't exist so fmj or solid lead was the ammunition of that time

Just brandishing a firearm is assault and battery in some places even if it stopped you from being STABBED TO DEATH ☠️! Keep your actions within the limits of the law! 😮😮😮😮

I like this video. You present a lot of information in a straight forward manner. At around the 5:20 mark you make the statement concerning the three .45's you just described "these guns are designed to carry a lot and shot a little". What exactly do you mean "shot a little"? I found that an odd statement.

I have a Springfield 1911 which I absolutely love and I am very accurate with. I have loved the 1911 since I was a kid. However, my carry is a Glock 30 GEN 4. I absolutely love that gun. I am extremely accurate with it. I also just purchased the Glock 21 full-size 45 ACP. Again, a very accurate gun to shoot. I put on Ameriglo sites on both my Glocks!

I have been a 1911 guy for most of my life as well. These days I carry a Sig P-320 Compact in .45 ACP.

45 in a polymer frame ain't as bad as a 40 SW. 45 acp is a low pressure round, only 19,000-23,000 chamber pressure, compared to a 40 sw, 40,000 psi. It pushes a big old chunk of lead around 900-1200 fps. A good stopper

No man most people don't feel that 185g 9mm is the best stopping round -- FBI doesn't feel that way either. They use .40 which has slightly more hitting power than a 9mm and .45 crushes them both -- thats the truth. What you get with a 9mm is additional rounds so IF.. and thats a BIG if, knowing that most gun fights or defensive stands are within 15ft, if you are faced with "overwhelming ods" you can counter with "overwhelming firepower" -- and that is one way to look at it. The other is you don't need 7 shots to put something down. One will do it. 9mm is going to be lighter and more concealable. A comment you frequently hear of those that have shot a .45 for the first time is "that doesn't feel any different than a 9mm" and I am one of those that agrees with that statement. Try this .. the Taylor Knockout Formula = Velocity (FPS) x weight (of bullet) x the diameter of the bullet divided by 7000 (puts the answer in pounds) and you get your true stopping power. Example: Classic Match | 9mm | 147GR FMJ avg 900 feet per second -- 147 x 900 x .355 (diameter of 9mm bullet) = 46, 966.5 / 7000 = 6.7095 Knockdown power. Example 2: Federal American Eagle 45 ACP 230 Grain FMJ | 890 FPS = 230 x 890 x .452 / 7000 = 13.22 Knockdown power. Clearly far more stopping power. That choice between stopping power and overwhelming firepower will end up being a personal choice.
